HELLO, WELCOME & HAPPY NEW YEAR! Actually that doesn’t read right with all the C19 malarkey. Strange & unprecedented times. Nonetheless, 2021 marks a fresh start and and an opportunity for renewal. This thread is for those of us who enjoy healthy eating, exercising and feeling motivated to reach (or maintain) a healthy weight/bmi. The founding members of these threads are inspirational and supportive in equal measure. I’m sure @SunshineCake & @FatGirlShrinking won’t mind me holding them up as our Poster Girls. They both did absolutely fantastic in 2020! ⭐️👏🥇

They have both demonstrated that if we eat right, get outside, move more your mental health will heap the rewards. Better mental health = better choices. It becomes a self fulfilling prophecy.

Me personally? In the main it’s been a way of life for 3 years and I’ve lost over 40lbs. I had a bit of blip at the start of C19. After all my hard work I just started eating with impunity. Before I knew it I was10lbs up in a few short weeks! I needed to get back on it and COVID proof myself 😬 I calorie count, log via MFP app, Intermittent fast, eat-low carb Mediterranean style aka Fast800 Plan and try to stay well hydrated. In December I maintained; I’m hoping to see a loss this January which would see me firmly in the healthy BMI bracket.

There are so many enjoyable lifestyle options out there without the need to resort to extreme measures. Whatever way you choose, it needs to be enjoyable & sustainable for the long term. This is a long term commitment rather than a quick fix. I rarely drink alcohol and keep sugar to a minimum. I exercise by doing walking vids & strength sessions with lite weighs.

As no one size fits all members need to follow their own way of eating. Nonetheless this thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

There is no shaming, competition or harsh words to be found on these threads. We are in this together.

I’ve been lurking for a while but after logging into an old MFP account I have gained a stone and abut in 4 years Hmm and I’ve still not lost the baby weight (ahem toddler is now 19 months) but only a few lbs off pre-preg weight. I ‘only’ want to lose a stone and a bit but I’ve been saying that for a long time now!
Going to weigh in on Monday as starting weight (TOTM) but watching what I eat from now 😳
Good luck everyone!

LarryUnderwood · 01/01/2021 13:00

OK weighed in this AM at 165lbs, heaviest I've ever been except when pregnant. So 32lbs to lose! Have a shocking hangover which is helping with my determination to do dry Jan. Breakfast was a home made sausage and egg muffin, my last hangover food concession (and not too unhealthy, 1 sausage, 1 poached egg, 1 muffin no butter amd tomato ketchup). Lunch will be rocket salad and small steak with chimichurri. Dinner chicken curry and green veg, no rice. And aiming to drink 1.5 litres water plus however much tea i fancy.

StarfishExpress · 01/01/2021 13:17

Hi Everyone, can I join please?

My current weight is 10st and goal is to be at 9 st 4 by March 15, so I need to lose about 4 lbs a month.

I'm back on the couch to 5k wagon, lamenting that I ever stopped! Need to sort out the Christmas chocolate/snacking/stress eating and get back to healthy habits. Great to hear people's successes so far! I don't have a fully fledged plan in mind but generally less carbs, logging in MFP - I'll look out for tips from you all!

Happyrascalsmummy · 01/01/2021 13:32

I'll join you all too please. I lost around a stone and a half last year, mainly through increasing my exercise. I've tracked on MFP and Fitbit for years now but did Jillian Michaels body revolution and it made a huge difference. I just need to get back into it again after not feeling well and then Christmas. It's my birthday tomorrow so I'll be restarting my exercise routine next week.
Is there a way to find the next thread in this group once this one is full? I joined a similar group last year but was never able to find the subsequent posts once the first one was full.

Mustard21 · 01/01/2021 13:57

Ok so the plan is Mediterranean low carb diet, restart C25K, no alcohol. I have lots of Becks Blue and herbal teas to try.

SW 11st 5 lbs
GW 9 st

I was 9st 7 lbs March 2020, cannot believe how much I gained ‘last year’. I was 8 st in my 20s and 30s. Never been 11 st before not even when pregnant. I am small boned and most of the fat is around my middle. I feel dreadful this weight.

Good luck everyone!

TheDaydreamBelievers · 01/01/2021 14:05

I'd like to join please!

I'm 31 years old, until recently was pregnant (MMC, surgery at 12 weeks), aiming to conceive again.

H: 5ft 7.5"
CW: 84kgs/185.2lbs/13 st 3lbs
GW: 70kg (into the healthy weight range)

DarlingWithoutYou · 01/01/2021 15:11

I'd like to join please. I'm much bigger than you all at 20.4 stone. It's tricky for me at the moment as I'm an inpatient in hospital (been here 3.5 months already) so don't have much control over my food. However I intend to cut out the desserts and stop having pan au chocolat's for breakfast!

theDudesmummy · 01/01/2021 15:40

OK, I have just steeled myself and weighed myself. The most I have ever been, ugh!
Current weight 75kg
Goal 65kg

theDudesmummy · 01/01/2021 15:56

I am going to try to stick to Med style fairly low carb, without actually doing full keto. That and Dry January should cut quite a lot of calories.

IHateCoronavirus · 01/01/2021 16:21

Hi everyone happy new year! May it bring us all the healthy bodies we are aiming for (and one chin each please) Wink

fallfallfall · 01/01/2021 16:42

Ohhhh my, my body loves to pack on the weight! 152.3
Back to portion control although I’d prefer to not calorie count. And exercise. I’m still a big LS fan. But might consider Apple Fitness. January 1 and four pages already wow

Onthebrink67 · 01/01/2021 16:44

Weighed in at 11 st 3.2 lb this morning which is the same as 1 December so could be worse. First target is 5 lb off to be out of obese into overweight which is my target for January. Good luck everyone

theDudesmummy · 01/01/2021 16:46

Welcome to everyone, we can do this!

Katrinawaves · 01/01/2021 17:14

10,000 steps done in a single long walk in the cold after lunch.

I seem to have bust my calories limit for the day on New Years Day lunch - we had roast beef with all the trimmings followed by banoffee pie ☺️ Fortunately I’m not in the slightest bit hungry yet so I may be able to get through the rest of the day on fruit.

didireallysaythat · 01/01/2021 18:54

I did a big walk today (21k steps), had an ok breakfast and lunch, I'm just going to drink tonic water (I don't miss the gin if there's a lot of ice and lime) but it's the traditional poultry pie for supper so that's not really diet food. But I'm thinking more carefully and ignoring the peanuts in the corner.

Generally a thread lasts a month and then @TheRealHousewife always posts the link to the next months thread before we hit 1000 posts so you should be able to find us. Also, she always puts "LOSE IT!" in the title so you could AS if you do lose us.

Good luck to all the newbies.

Hello

Signing in 😀

So at the start of 2020 i was 13 stone 3 at nearly 5 ft 8, i have an under active thyroid and polycystic ovaries and im within a gnats knadger of menapause so struggle a bit with losing weight

Weirdly i didnt gain any weight over lockdown 😳

In the past i was very successful with calorie counting and fasting...but i only ate 6000 calories a week...religiously so no wonder i lost weight!

Not sure i can do that again!

Unfortunately it seems i have stroke levels of blood pressure...what’s supposed to help (and ive no doubt does) cutting down on alcohol, sugar, unsaturated fat and sugar. Exercise is also so beneficial

So, im going to do what they suggest

I won’t weigh myself til the end of January...just in case but i intend starting on sunday with food but i will cut down on sweet stuff and alcohol from tomorrow...and I’ll have a nice long walk

Aim would be to not have a stroke 😀 but also to initially get down to my healthy bmi (top end)

RunningKatie · 01/01/2021 19:31

Day 1 exercise wise has gone well. 2 walks so over 11k.
Food wise - still eating the Christmas leftovers. DH and the DC are helping massively with this! Grin
I weighed myself this morning. I think I have 4 stone to lose. Going to aim for small goals, I hope breaking it into chunks will be less overwhelming.

TTCAbroad · 01/01/2021 21:51

@DarlingWithoutYou sorry to hear you've been in the hospital for an extended period. There should be a dietician planning all your meals - would it be possible for you to ask to speak with them and discuss your goals? They might be able to adjust the meals being served to you.

LarryUnderwood · 01/01/2021 21:56

Well done everyone! I've stuck to my meal plan, haven't drunk as much water as I wanted but still a decent amount. I'm easing myself into low carb rather than going full on from day 1. So today had carbs with breakfast and then sweet potato as part of my chicken and veg curry (but no rice). Tomorrow - breakfast is a poached egg, 1 sausage and a thin slice of high fibre gut friendly GF bread. Lunch - leftover chicken and veg curry. Dinner - beef and mushroom 'pie' with spring greens, without the pastry or any potatoes. Talking to a physio tomorrow am abput my dodgy achilles, will think about exercise once I have some proper advice. Feeling positive about a healthier 2021!

DarlingWithoutYou · 01/01/2021 22:18

@TTCAbroad thanks! It's a psych hospital and the food is actually pretty healthy, and there's a big salad bar. I'm just quite a fussy eater and often order takeaways. I've now deleted Uber Eats and Deliveroo off my phone!

CescaNicole · 02/01/2021 11:52

@marsis I've just signed up to the fiit app! It seems pretty good! I'm going to do the 4x4 challenge!!

I'm going to pay for the year with 25% off, so £90 = 7.50 per month. Not too bad!!!

Velocity · 02/01/2021 12:04

I think this is the thread for me!

SW 59.9 kg
CW 59.8 kg
TW: 57 kg

I know that in the general scheme of things that I'm OK but the weight has been creeping on over lockdown and the shot-up of Christmas/New Year. My fitness is not good and I need to get a grip on things to halt the upward trend.

Thank OP for the links. I've fired up the Fitbit and went for the premium option (1st three months free trial) to explore that a bit.

I need to up the exercise and to get back to a lower-carb way of eating. I start properly on Monday!

FatGirlShrinking · 02/01/2021 12:20

Well I think I deserve a great big shiny medal today. Took DD to the opticians this morning which she doesn't enjoy much, she did great so as a reward I took her into Tim Hortons to get a donut for the ride home. I didn't buy myself one, I got a skinny cappuccino. Not even one single solitary little Timbit passed my lips, even though they were staring at me and being all tempting.

TTCAbroad · 02/01/2021 12:30

@DarlingWithoutYou I can totally relate to being a fussy eater and the lure of Uber/Justeats. It's only in the last 5 years that I've been pushing myself to try different flavours, with reasonable success. Well done for deleting the food apps! I think I need to do it too.
