A weight loss thread with no boring diet info

AcornAutumn · 28/12/2020 21:09

Hi all
I really need to lose a total of about 4 stone.

I'm not keen on the usual weight loss type chats with methods and foods etc discussed in detail.

So I was trying to think how it could be more interesting.

This might be a crap idea but I know I do better when I have interesting things to do. Today I've done my workout, some drawing and keyboard practice. I've also read a couple of chapters of Women Who Kill (!) and watched The Crown, I'm on Season 2.

It was those things that made snacking on a boiled egg less of a shock 😂

So I was thinking, what about a support thread where we don't talk about the details of our methods, but just check in for support, and tell each other something interesting we've done that day, even just a film we've watched.

Is it a bonkers idea?

He he he well my inset pants are definitely not boring Wink they’ll look better once I’ve lost a few pounds though!

Cocolapew · 02/01/2021 22:54

I feel under pressure now re underwear 😳

MrsBobDylan · 02/01/2021 23:01

@GwendolineWindowlene I make a modest profit but it suits me because of the flexibility. I really, really love what I do. I was working in our very damp, mouldy utility room but have now commandeered the dining room.

My sewing machine is right by double doors leading out to our front garden and the sun comes flooding through which is such a luxury. My little pug Bunny lies by my feet so I have company and the kettle and biscuit tin are on standby near me for tea breaks. I can't recommend it highly enough!

Love the baby budgie!

MrsBobDylan · 02/01/2021 23:05

@Cocolapew my ds2 goes to the special school and I just said to DH this morning that I find it remarkable that lovely people like you choose to work with our children - you make such a difference to our lives and that of our dc and we are truly grateful.

Cocolapew · 02/01/2021 23:17

Aww thank you thats a lovely thing to say, it really is the best job in the world.

Squidgywoo · 02/01/2021 23:35

Weighed myself for the first time since before Christmas - knew it would be bad. It’s not as awful as I thought but worse than I’d hoped (+3kg) so I’ll just have to get back onto MFP and get out doing a bit more exercise. Maybe need to pick up the walking pace instead of enjoying the lovely views! Back to work (primary school) on Monday and I always find that work gives me a better food and exercise routine so hopefully that will help. When I have all day, I often end up wasting it whereas when I’m short on time, I manage to pack everything in.

Definitely like the pp suggesting a puzzle to switch off with. We did one during advent and it was a lovely way to wind down. I’ll have to see what I can find to buy online as nowhere’s open here now.

AcornAutumn · 03/01/2021 00:35

Now I'm reading the Veganuary advert as "spoil yourself with pants".

If I had space for a puzzle, I would do that but I have quite a lot going on hobby wise anyway.

Squidgy work makes me worse because I get irritated by things...but tbh I haven't got a lot of it at the moment anyway.

The weather shows no sign of changing so I've got to get on with walks. It's not enough to do workouts when you live in a small flat.

Oh, that all sounds lovely. I work from home in fairly creative job but on the computer.

I think I’ll add ‘learn to do something with my hands’ to the half an hour of exercise a day.

IHateCoronavirus · 03/01/2021 07:52

Woohoo! 1.9kg off this week. The Christmas blip seems to have paid off!
SW 94.3kg
CW 86.1kg

Well done.

I weigh in tomorrow 😱

I'm not going to put any more detail in than how much I've lost - if I have!

Well done @IHateCoronavirus

I'm still eating more than I "should" be, but I am being kind to myself about it. I'm very stressed about the current COVID situation but I won't bring that into this thread.

Spanielmadness · 03/01/2021 18:54

Walked 12 miles today. Walked with a friend so seemed very easy and felt like it was done quickly. Eating hasn’t been fab but only had 2 meals, with breakfast being low cal, so I’m happy with that. Diet starts in earnest tomorrow.....,.,,

GinnieHempstock · 03/01/2021 19:08

Love the budgie and the talk of “good” pants.

I’m also back at work tomorrow, I’m a HCP and I suspect it’s going to be stressful. I feel for all of you that work in schools, though, at least in the hospitals we have PPE and testing. I need to do a lateral flow test tonight before going back. Part of me would quite like a positive and another couple of weeks off!
I have been making industrial quantities of chipotle butternut squash soup today, so I will have lunch for work - until DH nicks half of it.

Who was asking about relaxing hobbies? I really would recommend crochet. You can watch tv/ listen to audible at the same time but you can’t eat easily as your hands are busy. Almost the perfect hobby for weight loss. I’d like to be able to do it whilst jogging and then it would be perfect. 😀😀

I weighed on 1st, 5.6lbs up on Christmas Eve (I had a good Christmas). Pleasingly, I have lost 3.8lbs of it in two days. Due to lots of water retention because of all the carbs, I suspect.

Good luck and stay safe and sane for everyone back at work tomorrow.

AcornAutumn · 03/01/2021 19:40

Loads of walking! I've stayed home in the cold. Soup sounds good.

Today I just did fun stuff on the keyboard. Hard workout though.

Is crochet easier than knitting?

Tbh I really only watch TV that I'm really wanting to engage with.

I decide against watching The Conjuring! I will start on the recent version of Day of the Triffids instead. I've not read the book or seen the old one. I have vague memories of my parents bustling us off to bed before they watched the old one, which mum said was very scary.

OP posts:
GinnieHempstock · 03/01/2021 19:44

@AcornAutumn I haven't seen new Day of the Triffids. I think you'd find the old film very clunky. Great book, though, I'm a big John Wyndham fan.

GinnieHempstock · 03/01/2021 19:46

@AcornAutumn sorry, got distracted by thinking about Triffids. Grin
Meant to be replying about crochet. I think it's easier than knitting, but my MIL would disagree. Some really good YouTube tutorials - Bella Coco is great.

MrsBobDylan · 03/01/2021 19:57

I prefer crochet to knitting - it just feels more logical and you can do circles very easily.

Sadly, I have spent many hours crocheting anything and everything and I still managed to eat too much. I am obviously a good multi-tasker Sad who can eat and crochet!

I went on a walk with my sister today. It has been a long time since I did any kind of exercise so I was very grateful that she tricked encouraged me into it.

MrsBobDylan · 03/01/2021 20:00

@GwendolineWindowlene I can recommend YouTube to teach almost anything. You might love crochet if you do a creative job. I always crochet using Rowan cotton hand knit because 1. It is easier to pull back

  1. It comes in gorgeous colors that are begging to become a lovely blanket/shawl.
acatcalledjohn · 03/01/2021 22:09

Today I decided to start breaking in my new running shoes. It was cold and I only did 4K, but that's 4k in the bag. Finishing off the final bits of crap foods we have lying around, and tomorrow will see the first Mindful Chef meal.

As much as I'm not ready to go back to work from home yet, I am looking forward to the routine.

AcornAutumn · 03/01/2021 22:44

4k is excellent!

Triffids didn't work out - what I was planning to watch was a future thing, not the original story. Or maybe I just wasn't on the mood. So I carried on with Little Fires Everywhere, which I like.

Grr, why is weighing yourself such an inconsistent thing? I can fluctuate by 2lb on consecutive days it seems.

Today’s positive, going for a walk. Feeling bleurgh about being back at work. January is rubbish.

NatMoz · 04/01/2021 07:24

Did a bad thing.

I ate 2 slices of Christmas cake yesterday so feel guilty now. Will do a 6-7 mile run today to offset a portion of it!

Hmm....today was my weigh in

Down 1.5lb. Hope it's real and not water!

Hope all those back at work are okay. I'm on a care visit to mum so won't be around till later, but I'll be back! 😂

Oh, and it's bird food for lunch as she never has food and gets cross if I buy a lettuce leaf too many. So I'll def have a diet lunch!

Because as women our weight is affected by our hormones. In the week leading up to AF I tend to be at least 2lb heavier, but around 2 days in to AF it drops off again. It's simply water weight.

Other causes are dehydration, high sodium intake, or alcohol.

If you weigh daily I recommend using a tracker such as happy scale as it will give you a moving average.
