A weight loss thread with no boring diet info

Hi all
I really need to lose a total of about 4 stone.

I'm not keen on the usual weight loss type chats with methods and foods etc discussed in detail.

So I was trying to think how it could be more interesting.

This might be a crap idea but I know I do better when I have interesting things to do. Today I've done my workout, some drawing and keyboard practice. I've also read a couple of chapters of Women Who Kill (!) and watched The Crown, I'm on Season 2.

It was those things that made snacking on a boiled egg less of a shock 😂

So I was thinking, what about a support thread where we don't talk about the details of our methods, but just check in for support, and tell each other something interesting we've done that day, even just a film we've watched.

Is it a bonkers idea?

AcornAutumn · 10/01/2021 10:42

Oops, dont know what happened there

HIIT with weights today.

Was really tired again last night so was reading instead of watching any films. The cold always wears me out.

Weigh in day tomorrow.
Today is a lot of chores sadly but will watch a film too.

@AcornAutumn I reckon chores are a good calorie burner, stick some music on and boogie while you've at it!

Apols re: cake gate, realized how insensitive it was to post a picture of a cake on a diet thread. Thanks for not reporting me Grin

Belly dancing is a good suggestion, I enjoy dancing generally. I dance to music while I cook so I think I might include that as my 'exercise'. Also we live in a town house and I have 3 kids so spend a lot of time carrying washing baskets of clothes down two flights to the utility, then carrying them up again. I know it's not very impressive but it's all I've got 😂

Can we have a puppy pic pls?

AcornAutumn · 10/01/2021 11:46

MrsBob stairs are brilliant! I would love to be going up and down stairs. One former neighbour in this block now lives in a town house and guess what - her years old back pain is gone.

I live in a tiny flat so chores don't really burn calories, hence the HIIT.

I actually stopped listening to music with chores, i just end up not doing the chores! 😂

Horrible day here, dark and damp, I'd rather it was freezing and sunny like yesterday. Had an hour walk and I'm not planning on doing much today. I made my own cream of chicken soup for lunch and it was lovely {preens}.
Had a sneaky weight in and lost another lb so at least I'm on the right track.
Enjoy your Sunday everyone 😊

redfernsydney · 10/01/2021 14:18

Hi all.,went for a walk today, after most of you walking yesterday. .....its was lovely cold but bright...big change after yesterday where the mist didn't clear all day.
did a sneaky weigh in as well and put 1 lb on.,so back to square one. However aunt flo is yet to make an appearance ( though she was due on my birthday friday), so I won't stress...nothing to do with a bottle of prosecco and chocolate browines (made for me by DD)

GinnieHempstock · 10/01/2021 19:06

Evening all, love all the walking but disappointed there is no puppy pic. However, the budgie photo makes up for it.

I’ve not posted for a few days - very busy at work on Thursday and Friday, then Saturday is also my main chore day - DH and I spend the morning cleaning the house, as well as all the other stuff that needs doing. I meal plan and do the internet shop as well, which then gets delivered on Sunday. As I’m a bit of a masochist, I also do my long run on a Saturday. I’m not back up to 10km since Christmas, but did manage 8km yesterday. Then as a treat for all that, Domino’s for dinner. It was bloody lovely. 😀 I have managed to get back to my pre- Christmas weight despite that.
Today, has mostly been cooking/ baking day - a vat load of lentil and harissa soup to take to work for lunch this week, a Dundee cake for my MIL as it’s her birthday today, double- dipped shortbread cookies for the children (and me) and roast beef for dinner.

Sorry, that was long. Blush
Hope everyone has a good week this week.

People are so hardcore woth their outdoor exercise, I'm well impressed.

Not that taken with Literary Potato, bit slow. Lovely scenery though.

Half a pound off this morning. Better than nothing. Onwards and downwards!

CatRamsey · 11/01/2021 09:59

Same here, half a pound off! Trying not to be disappointed as I did eat too many biscuits and it's still a loss 😁 and I feel better for getting out more too.

HereIgoagainagain · 11/01/2021 10:19

Morning all , I have been awol (work in a secondary school and it is .....)

Anyway , I have lost 3.5 pounds. I do have a long way to go but I am pleased with my start. Now I just need to continue for another 40 odd pounds Grin

Well done all , my aim for today is to move out of this room once an hour. It is so easy to get out of the habit . Normally I would be walking all over the school but obviously now we can't. So I am making an effort to leave the building once an hour to just breathe some air and move around.

Cocolapew · 11/01/2021 10:40

Morning all, half a pound is 👍.
Supposed to be at work today but I've been told to refrain from coming in by my Head. Apparently a load of people arent in due to underlying health problems either with them or a family member. I have Lupus with a tendency towards pleurisy and DH has COPD so I'm not going in atm. There was a lot of moving people around classes which I refuse to do.
Really dizzy this morning, I think if this happens when low carbing you need more salt 🤷‍♀️

InJest · 11/01/2021 10:43

Ooh can I join you please? This thread is exactly what I need.

Well done on your weightloss Acorn.

I've spent the best part of a year eating and watching tv. I've been very successful, i'm nearly out of things to watch and have gained 3.5 stone! I'm such a bore its unreal so I dont need to add diet bore on top.

Inspired by this thread I've put some prompts in a jar, and each day I will pick 3. I will set a timer to do each thing for 40 minutes to try and bring back a bit of variety. Today I got read, listen and write, so I'll
Read. Madness of Crowds. Douglas Murray.
Listen. Wind of change podcast. The guardian has a 'best of' list i've meant to start.
Write. I found a prompt online, 'write a myth to explain why volcanoes errupt'.

GwendolineWindowlene · 11/01/2021 13:33

Hello all. Well done to the losers. I'm always reminded of Peter Kaye... "A POUND?! I shit a pound!" when people are announcing weight loss. Grin

I've had a couple of days of eating out of sheer boredom, so I'm avoiding the scales for a few days.

Hello InJest. Are you on furlough, or do you have a nicer reason for watching telly and eating? I hope so, maybe a lottery win? Smile. I like your prompts idea, I too am very boring.

Another walk in the cold this morning (see? I'm boring myself now). I used to run but feel a bit old and knackered for that now, so I go at a brisk waddle instead.

AMumofThree · 11/01/2021 13:52

Hi. Can I join you all please? I really like the idea of this thread as I usually avoid diet threads full
of details of what people eat.

I lost a lot of weight a few years ago, but it has slowly crept back up and I need to stop the slide. I started the year needing to lose just over 2 stone, a key goal being to lose the stone I need to get back to a healthy BMI. The next goal is to lose enough to fit into my lovely size 10 clothes again.

First week has gone well: 2lb loss. My aIm for this week is to keep up the level of exercise, including both outdoor walks with the DC and indoor crosstraining.

AcornAutumn · 11/01/2021 19:23

Welcome along everyone, lovely to have new folk join.

Jest prompts are a good idea for so many things! Do you include things like "random dance"? I might do that 😂 but i live alone so it's easier to do without looking bonkers! I sense a competition...what suggestions do we have for a prompt jar?

Three have you got a crosstrainer at home? Sounds fab!

I have had a mad busy day so no keyboard practice tonight, just vegging out with ...either another film or continue watching The Crown. I also started on the Durrells but not sure what I think of it.

Tomorrow will be time for a lunchtime workout and drawing or music in the evening.

Well done all you losers. 💐 and welcome to the new people.
I love the idea of prompts in a jar. Maybe leave out “eat a biscuit” as I don’t need prompting to do that. Grin My selection for the prompt jar only works if you have a dog, but would be play tug of war with the dog as it always makes me laugh. You may be able to switch the dog for a young child, if you have one of those instead.

Busy, busy day at work. Sent DH text instructions to start dinner so we didn’t eat too late. No energy for a full on work out tonight, but as I’m doing RED January, I wanted to do something, so I did 30 minutes of yoga and do feel better for it - my mood has definitely improved.
Going to get the youngest to bed and then read my book in the bath. I’m reading “Mr Wilder and me” for my book group and I’m really enjoying it up to now.

Squidgywoo · 12/01/2021 00:04

Been out of the loop for a couple of days but it’s been lovely to catch up tonight! I’ve lost 2.5kg this week which is great - another 1.5 to go to get back to my pre-Christmas weight though. Can’t believe I managed to put so much on in such a short space of time Blush

AcornAutumn · 12/01/2021 00:56

Sqidgy i dream of seeing that kind of loss.

My best mate put on 10lb over the Xmas Eve to New Year's Day period year before last but she is a very very bird like eater the rest of the time. She's the type who can exist on salad and alcohol, there seem to be alot of them around, I am well jel!

Howling wind and rain up here, hope i can nod off soon.

Morning all

I am loving the idea of a prompt jar. Going to have a think. I do a similar ish thing with students to help with wellbeing . I really need to start taking my own advice . We are all so much better at doling it out arent we ?
Not sure I will manage 40 min chunks so will adapt it to 20 for now and see how I go.
Working from home today so can stay in pyjamas for longer which is a good start.

InJest · 12/01/2021 08:52

Morning all

Have read more of the thread now and you're all doing so well. I read literary potato and enjoyed it, so dodged the movie as they're always a let-down.

I can report that yesterday was a good day, probably the first good day in the last 400! I've been depressed for a while now, so doing anything at all is huge. I did 2 of my 3, and ate like an adult who cares about herself. I'm wfh, and work drifted into the evening so I didn’t have as much time I expected to have.

I've added the prompts suggested so far (minus the biscuits!). Keep the suggestions coming.

Today I got
Organise: I have some old photos i've been meaning to scan, so i'll get that sorted (been meaning to for 18 months)
Sing: It's something I loved as a kid, before I became aware of the howling nature of my voice and stopped overnight. I'll sing along to Carole King, 'Tapestry' which is nice and gentle and shouldnt be audible to the neighbours.

Write: I didnt manage to do this one yesterday, and it's popped up again today, so no excuses. The seed yesterday drew a blank, but I heard a sentence in that podcast I liked 'He's in his forties, like I am, but it's liked he's lived more lives than I have'. So i'll try that one.

@HereIgo 40 minutes is a bit long and less would be fine for most things.

HereIgoagainagain · 12/01/2021 09:17

@InJest I like the idea of organise being one

That will be added to my list
exercise from an app I have downloaded
walk round the block (this will also mean I have to get out of my pyjamas)
listen to a podcast
read some of my book (I have always loved reading but struggle to concentrate just now)
Choose 10 books to go to the charity shop
Order a treat for under 10 pounds for me and nobody else

I am going to add more as I think of them.

AcornAutumn · 12/01/2021 12:24

Jest have you ever had lessons?

I'm freezing.

I've developed an obsession with scarves. I can't stop staring at them online. I suppose as well as being warm, I could, in theory, buy them and be confident they will fit!

At some point, I would love to learn basic dressmaking.

Cocolapew · 12/01/2021 14:40

Afternoon all, you're all v productive, I spend most of my time in the sofa reading and listening to Magic Soul.
Have officially stopped low carb, I've had a horrendous headache since Saturday, even my eyesight is blurry. I've just eaten a load of salty crackers Blush.
Went to get shopping and there was very few people around for a change, we're having trouble getting some food because of Brexit over here, but the shelves were a bit fuller than last week.

acatcalledjohn · 12/01/2021 15:10

We had pizza disaster on Saturday so ended up ordering Zizzi on Uber Eats. Pizza & sides Blush

Got about 15k steps in on Sunday, followed by a 6k walk yesterday and a 5k run today.

The rest of my time is taken up with work. It's just so unbelievably busy. Don't get me wrong, I'm very grateful I have a reliable job which I can safely do from home. However, it'd be nice to have brain capacity to get some sorting done at home. I could easily fill some bags with clothes to take to a clothes bank and plenty of other things, but I just want to sit and do nothing when my working day is over.
