A weight loss thread with no boring diet info

Hi all
I really need to lose a total of about 4 stone.

I'm not keen on the usual weight loss type chats with methods and foods etc discussed in detail.

So I was trying to think how it could be more interesting.

This might be a crap idea but I know I do better when I have interesting things to do. Today I've done my workout, some drawing and keyboard practice. I've also read a couple of chapters of Women Who Kill (!) and watched The Crown, I'm on Season 2.

It was those things that made snacking on a boiled egg less of a shock 😂

So I was thinking, what about a support thread where we don't talk about the details of our methods, but just check in for support, and tell each other something interesting we've done that day, even just a film we've watched.

Is it a bonkers idea?

What's most likely to get you moving? NB me chasing you with a big snake is not currently an option.

Oh and what kind of music do you like?

Maybe just put on some tunes and dance!

@MrsBobDylan

Hello all, great to hear about the weigh-ins, hobbies, colorful pants/leggings, exercise and the budgie!

I have decided to observe 'weigh in Wednesday' and have lost a 1lb which I'll take since ds turned 11 yesterday and we managed to finish the cake in 24 hours!

Ah that cake looks yum! Did you make that?

AcornAutumn perhaps chasing MrsBob is not an option but how about incorporating it into some sort of online belly dancing routine (very good for the waist and hips). You could be the next Joe Wicks! 🐍💃

GinnieHempstock · 06/01/2021 19:44

@IHateCoronavirus I was definitely in the zone. Shame every day can’t be like that.

I get lots of me time nowadays as my DC rarely leave their rooms, except for food! Takes a bit of getting used to, but does mean I feel as if I am getting my life back. The older two always go to bed after me. I usually manage to stay awake until the 12yo goes to be but not always.

Well done on all those who have weighed in and got the result they wanted 👍

@MrsBobDylan love the cake. They don’t last long in this house either.

I did a cold 5.38km run this evening - no photo of the leggings today as they were boring mostly black ones.

What is everyone reading? I listen more than read these days and am listening to The Song of Achilles at the moment I enjoyed walking the dog whilst listening this morning.

AcornAutumn · 06/01/2021 21:15

Ginnie currently on PD James "Misteltoe Murders & other short stories"

And Wild Signs & Star Paths by Tristan Gooley, so I can at least learn something about the countryside.

@GwendolineWindowlene I wish I could go to bed when the kids do but by the time I’ve done the jobs that need doing I feel wide awake! Then I settle down with a tea and chocolate or wine and crisps! Tonight I’ve had tea and 1 Kitcat (107 calls!!). I’m hungry but trying to ignore it, my stomach is shouting for food because it’s become such a habit to eat between 9-12. I’m going to step on the scales tomorrow am and will see what the damage is. I went for a big walk today and did my first run yesterday (legs are sore today). I’m aiming to be able to run 10k by March.

The thing that’s irritating me is having some lovely clothes in my wardrobe that don’t fit.

Cantdoitallperfectly · 06/01/2021 21:34

@MrsBobDylan that cake looks divine!

SingToTheSky · 06/01/2021 21:51

Cake looks so good!

Today has been tough, it always is a fatigue day after a shutdown so I didn’t expect anything of myself and enjoyed playing a bit of piano (may have got a bit emotional when I recorded myself a bit and heard just how much better it sounds than my creaky, out of tune old piano) and this evening I spent ages setting up a few more trackers in my new bujo. I just need to do an exercise tracker and a sort of “exercise my brain” type tracker (Duolingo etc - I’ve been relearning French, and my home educated 11yo decided he wanted to learn Italian, which means I am now learning Italian too 😂). And I just realised I need a study progress tracker too. Hopefully I can do those tomorrow.

I’ve managed to lose my fitness tracker so I can’t actually wear that and track steps yet 😳😂

AcornAutumn · 06/01/2021 21:56

Sing when you say "set up trackers in the bujo" how do you do that please?

Ohhh can I join please?! Would like to lose 2 and a half stone.

Lost a stone in 3 weeks in 2018 before starting IVF (BMI issues and NHS funding) and although i did it I was miserable as sin and horrendous to be around because it was a crash diet! Put it all back on, got married, realised DH couldn't run away now without divorcing me so just worked my way around the kitchen eating everything, had another baby and realised that in June when it's time to go back to work I can't rock up in comfy, waist-friendly stretchy things. Also I'd like my face not to resemble a moon anymore!

Cocolapew · 06/01/2021 23:32

Cake looks great! I nearly licked the screen, I'm going low carb crazy 🤪

acatcalledjohn · 06/01/2021 23:55

Yeah, please don't tempt us with cake! Especially when they look nice like that.

AcornAutumn · 06/01/2021 23:58

dilly of course, welcome along.

My face has that weird feature where you see the moon, but then you see my original face inside it. So I have to sculpt it out.

Unfortunately there's no chisel for that! 😂

Acorn I’m just trying to track various habits, books and even TV shows as a way of making sure I practise self care. It’s basically tick charts but I colour in squares instead :o

I shall take some photos of a few pages tomorrow! :)

acatcalledjohn · 07/01/2021 10:27

Those stickers perfectly voice how I feel about work right now.

AcornAutumn · 07/01/2021 11:30

Tempted by the stickers myself!

Today is not the horrendous grey day that was predicted, phew.

I've got some work today, thank goodness - it's been thin on the ground - but will have a lunchtime workout.

AcornAutumn · 07/01/2021 20:09

How's everyone doing?

I think I have got to grips with the keyboard thing I was on about, which was actually middle C to high C.

I am not great at remembering things via app!

OP posts:
Squidgywoo · 07/01/2021 23:05

Well, @AcornAutumn, today has been a day that I’m glad is done! Started off well by weighing myself and the Xmas weight is starting to go, and finished off with a lovely 20 minutes of yoga stretching but the bit in the middle was crap!

I love hearing about your keyboard progress. I played from the age of about 7 until I was in my early 20s and I have a piano but I never make time to play it. Not sure if I’d remember much now - treble clef would be ok but think I’d struggle with the bass after all this time!

AcornAutumn · 07/01/2021 23:39

Squidgy glad I'm not boring you!

See, another thing about learning this way...does treble clef just mean top line notes?

I fitted in a short workout, had a bunch of work today. First work I've had since second week of December.

There seems to be no rhyme or reason for how much workout energy I do or don't have. Last week was easy, this week, less so.
