Is anyone planning on losing weight in 2021, but without following any specific diet?

I’ve tried low carb, plant based, GI diets, sugar free...the list goes on.

But i know that for me, I just need to eat better and move more. I can’t imagine the rest of my life without rice/chocolate etc, and if my weightloss is going to be sustainable, it can’t exclude any food groups.

So my plan is to just eat less unhealthy foods, and eat more veggies.
I’m starting today, but am aware that others may want to wait till new year, that’s fine.

Anyone else want to join me?

Colouring 💐

Been a crap day here, had a panic attack which hasn’t happened for a while and tends to screw me up for a day or two, I was shattered walking home from the shop as well. Very carby day which hasn’t helped. Stuck in mindless scroll mode

Good Evening everyone!

@LightandAiry and @peachgreen lovely not to have a ‘wagon’ in the first place isn’t it.

@Daisychainsandlaughs great idea about putting the food in the loft! Although I think the spiders would eat anything in my loft Confused

@Welshgal85 welcome! Yes, please do join in, great to have you on board. I’ve just bought a Fitbit, I went to a versa 2 I think. Fingers crossed it’ll arrive soon!

@ColouringPencils it must have been in the air last night, as I couldn’t sleep either. I finally fell asleep as just gone 2.30am, and was up as usual at 6am.

@SingToTheSky sorry to hear about your panic attack. My son suffers with anxiety and often has them. Please do take care of yourself.

This evening has been good. I walked the dogs for an hour, and definitely felt those endorphins.
The low carb thing has not been my focus today, which is fine. Had a lovely bagel and a glass of wine this evening.

Flowers to everyone, sounds like yesterday was a hard day all around. I'm glad we've got this thread to share a little. Hope @ColouringPencils and @Bookaholic73 slept better last night. @SingToTheSky I hope today is an easier day for you too.

This morning's weigh in was 10st10. I'm pleasantly surprised at that, I think credit goes to Joe Wick. I did one of his PE workouts yesterday with DD.

Today, is steak night in our house. So I'm going to eat sparingly today to earn the peppercorn sauce I plan to pour liberally on to my plate. Grin

clare8allthepies · 06/01/2021 10:56

Hello, can I join you? I have taken full advantage of all the Christmas food and drink (from about mid-November onwards) and got a nasty shock when I weighed myself yesterday. 12 stone 9 at only 5 foot 2 means that I need to lose 3 stones just to get into a healthy BMI and probably another one on top Sad

Also I had all of these grand plans for when the kids finally went back to school and of course that’s all out of the window now! I’m still going to crack on though, last night was my first alcohol free one in so long I can’t remember. I hoped that would mean a really good nights sleep but that wasn’t the case.

Trying to menu plan to find a balance between the beige food which seems to be all my fussy kids want to eat and anything vaguely healthy.

I am more bothered about mice than spiders Smile it is stored in a plastic crate though and we will check it every few days.

@Welshgal85

Can I join? I really need help with motivation for weight loss! Weighed today and have a couple of stone to loose but hopefully on the right track with healthy eating and exercise this week!

I’m tempted to get a Fitbit or something similar, has anyone got any recommendations? Are they worth getting?

Welcome. I have a Fitbit Inspire. I think it is the most basic model but fine for what I need. All I wanted was one that would count my steps. It cost £50 from Argos. I also use My Fitness Pal app which connects with the Fitbit app.
Welshgal85 · 06/01/2021 13:20

Thanks so much! I’ll take a look at the Inspire, hopefully it will help motivate me!

Bookaholic73 · 06/01/2021 13:23

Afternoon all.

Welcome to @clare8allthepies Smile I’ve got 3 stones to lose too, slowly and steadily is the way forward.

I slept like a baby last night, thank god! Sorted out my son for zoom classes at 8.30am and have spent the rest of the morning working. Just finished now, although I might do a few more bits later.

Having salmon for dinner, which I’m very excited about as I love it!

OP posts:
CosyAcorn · 06/01/2021 17:18

Ooh I love salmon too!

Welcome @clare8allthepies. I've been indulging all of November and December too, and it really shows. Also I share your pain at having to change plans around homeschooling. It's hard to get stuck into anything when there is a little voice calling, 'mummy!' every two minutes. 🤪

Bookaholic73 · 07/01/2021 10:56

Hey everyone, hope you’re having a good Thursday.
I had some bread this morning, peanut butter on toast. And wow, my stomach is so bloated! But that’s ok, I don’t mind eating bread occasionally.

How do we feel about weigh day tomorrow?
I’m feeling quietly confident, as (pre toast!) my stomach bloat has really gone down!

I’m out for a walk this afternoon with the dogs, and also went out for one yesterday too. Really didn’t want to go, but forced myself and really enjoyed it in the end.

I’m fed up of eating eggs for breakfast every day, so I’m doing to try and find some low-ish carb alternatives. I’m sure Pinterest will be able to help me!

OP posts:
CosyAcorn · 07/01/2021 12:33

I'm feeling positive about tomorrow. If I can maintain today's weight until tomorrow I'll be pleased with that for week 1.

Tomorrow is DD'S birthday. She wants a full English breakfast and then pig n blankets and other oven bits for tea, plus cake. So, I'm glad this is not a diet or I'd be feeling very anxious right now 😁

I ordered myself a dress from ASOS yesterday. I've decided that I want to feel good about myself BEFORE I lose weight so am getting a little bit dressed up a couple of times a week (make up and no jogging pants!) Just to give myself a little boost.

Bookaholic73 · 07/01/2021 12:41

@CosyAcorn that sounds like an epic breakfast, yum!
I love your mindset about feeling good about yourself regardless of weight. I have a suitcase full of clothes that I used to wear, in my wardrobe. They are all a size 12 and my aim is to fit into them by the summer.

Delicious lunch today. More delicious than expected!

The ‘No Specific Diet’ Weightloss thread.
Daisychainsandlaughs · 07/01/2021 18:35

I have had a lazy day today. Yesterday I fell flat on my backside while out walking. It was very muddy. Had to wash my coat, trousers and gloves, it had even soaked through to my knickers. Luckily I have plenty of padding Grin so only damaged my pride. Have ordered some wellies but am sticking to the streets until they come. Doing well foodwise though, still around 1200 calories including a small treat each night.

Daisychainsandlaughs · 07/01/2021 18:41

@CosyAcorn good idea about getting a bit more dressed up. I have been wearing the same few tops and leggings for months now and they are quite scruffy. There doesn’t seem to be much point dressing up when there is nowhere to go. I probably ought to make a bit more of an effort.

Lemonyfuckit · 07/01/2021 19:42

@winterlites

That lunch sounds delicious!

Hope everyone has had a good Thursday (or let's face it, a passable Thursday.....). Feeling quietly confident about tomorrow's weigh in, have stuck to 1200 calories since Monday so hopefully there will be a bit of a reduction, plus like @Bookaholic73 I have definitely noticed a reduction in the tummy bloat (and my Christmas fat face).

My latest discovery (and also since back at the grindstone in a new job since Mon) is non alcoholic gin. Mainly not drinking to save calories but feel like I can indulge in a G&T every night to make that transition from work into the evening, without worrying about drinking on a school night.

LightandAiry · 07/01/2021 21:02

Good luck with weigh in tomorrow everyone - I am waiting until Feb 1st

Had a few 'oops' moments last couple of days but on the whole cutting carbs, sugar and moving more. My waterproof overtrousers came and jacket - Berghaus - I am hoping they are 100% waterproof or near enough.

KihoBebiluPute · 07/01/2021 21:54

A richmond veggie sausage and a pan full of fry lite sauted mushrooms makes an excellent breakfast for less than 200 calories when you are bored of eggs. No idea if the non-veggie sausages are the same in calories if you are a meat eater.

Bookaholic73 · 08/01/2021 08:58

Good morning everyone!

I weighed this morning and was amazed to see that I’ve lost 4lbs this week! Shock

Current weight= 12st 8lbs.

I’m so pleased with that! Generally a large loss is always followed by no loss at all, so I’m not expecting to lose next week.

@winterlites that lunch sounds delicious!

@Daisychainsandlaughs glad to hear you weren’t hurt due to your fall. I’ve fallen over in the mud loads of times this year!

@Lemonyfuckit I’ve heard great things about AF gin, but can never find any! What shop do you buy it from?

@LightandAiry I’ve had a few oops moments this week too. But that’s life I guess! As long as my oops moments happen less, I consider it a win.

@KihoBebiluPute oh that sounds yummy actually, thank you for the suggestion!!

Well done @Bookaholic73! That's a great start!

Friday Weigh In:
1st Jan: 11st1
8th Jan: 10st10
A 5lb loss! But I think my start weight was a little inflated after New Years Eve gluttony. Grin

Next week I'll be pleased if I get to 10st8.

The odds are against me today. It's DD'S birthday,I didn't sleep much last night, just had a massive breakfast and am already craving a big fat glass of coke.

So I think I might just say that today is going to be a lax day, food wise but I'm going to try to keep on moving about today. Cleaning, playing with DD, getting outside, maybe an online pe lesson.

Bookaholic73 · 08/01/2021 09:20

@CosyAcorn wow, well done on that loss, that’s a great amount for the first week!
Happy Birthday to your DD, I wouldn’t worry too much about the food, as long as I was being sensible.

OP posts:
clare8allthepies · 08/01/2021 09:39

Wow, well done that’s some great losses! I was down just a pound but that’s only in a couple of days so I’m also 12 stone 8.

Going to batch cook some bologese and a tomato sauce with loads of concealed veg to freeze for the kids dinners so it’s not as much of a faff if I’m having something different.

Daisychainsandlaughs · 08/01/2021 09:56

I decided to change my weight in day to Friday in line with everyone else. Pleased to find I have lost another two pounds. I am now 12.11. Heavy snow forecast here in Notts so not sure if I will get much walking in over the next few days. It hasn’t started yet though so might go out soon.

Daisychainsandlaughs · 08/01/2021 10:00

Well done on the losses everyone. We have made a good start to the year.
