Is anyone planning on losing weight in 2021, but without following any specific diet?

I’ve tried low carb, plant based, GI diets, sugar free...the list goes on.

But i know that for me, I just need to eat better and move more. I can’t imagine the rest of my life without rice/chocolate etc, and if my weightloss is going to be sustainable, it can’t exclude any food groups.

So my plan is to just eat less unhealthy foods, and eat more veggies.
I’m starting today, but am aware that others may want to wait till new year, that’s fine.

Anyone else want to join me?

@ClaraTheImpossibleGirl it doesn't hurt at all unless I'm trying to do something like kneeling down sitting on it (if that makes sense) or sitting cross-legged. It's fine for walking. I'm hopeful that means that it would cope with 1 min of running at a time. I'm a bit fed up of doing no exercise

KihoBebiluPute · 26/06/2021 06:35

Well done on combining running with DC logistics @ClaraTheImpossibleGirl - yes running while carrying umbrellas and macs etc is a whole different level of achievement - now you can run for 20 minutes at a stretch even when encumbered like that you are definitely a Runner - speed isn't important, that will come with practice if you want to push it up but there's nothing wrong with choosing to keep a lower pace if that works for you.

Glad that your ankle is better now @sittinghere. Working out how to balance rewards and treats is really tricky but if you are able to get more active now, you should hopefully find the balance is easier to maintain and you'll be back under that milestone soon.

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 27/06/2021 22:42

Glad your ankle is on the mend @sittinghere - is there anything else you can do in the meantime if running still doesn't work for you? Maybe swimming now the pools are open again?

@KihoBebiluPute I did feel a bit silly running with all those things Grin but I knew if I went home to drop them off first I'd never get out of the door again!! I've Shredded today and yesterday and done 15K+ steps too but I've just been so flipping hungry that I've probably eaten more calories than I should Sad

KihoBebiluPute · 02/07/2021 11:07

Happy Friday everyone. Hope you have all had a good week.

I had a good few days Friday-Tuesday with reasonably healthy eating and a couple of good runs. Then Tuesday evening I had my second moderna Covid vaccine and the subsequent days the whole weightloss/exercise/healthy eating plan has just been out the window. Really glad to be fully vaccinated but the side effects from the vaccine have really taken their toll, I haven't felt up to going for any runs or even walks and have mostly been inert on the sofa scoffing far more calories than I should in a hopeless quest to find a food-based solution to feeling crappy. So surprise surprise I am back up to 70.1kg again and the yoyo cycle keeps going. I know I will be feeling ok again soon - I am nearly there today just feeling really tired and run down rather than ill. Hopefully I will get back into the flow of healthy eating and running soon and back on track again soon. However first I have a weekend with my MIL to contend with and healthy eating is impossible there as vegetables are only included in the menu if smothered in cheese sauce, and fruit only if combined with double cream and chocolate. However in my current state of mind I don't really mind that and will be happy with a weekend of comfort-eating.

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 02/07/2021 14:35

Hi @KihoBebiluPute - same here with the second jab!! Had mine earlier this week and it just wiped me out for a couple of days. I had a run scheduled for the next day but it hurt so much to move my arm that I just couldn't manage Confused

Your MIL's cooking sounds much the same as my MIL's Grin I mean she is lovely and well-meaning but it's not a proper meal unless your plate is absolutely groaning with food!! I think that's where DP gets it from, he literally cannot leave a scrap of food on his plate. I'm a bit despairing of him at the moment actually - I left food out for him to cook dinner as I was so exhausted from my jab and he ate mountains, much more than he needed. He goes straight to bed after dinner, sleeps for 10 or so hours, tells me he's 'too tired' to go to the gym Hmm and gets grumpy if I plan anything active for the weekend... yet keeps telling me he wants/ needs to lose weight! I'd like this fitness journey to be something we're doing together but he just won't participate. I've pretty much given up on him TBH...

As for me - it was going ok till jab day and the DC spending a couple of days off school waiting for a negative PCR test - now I'm tired out and hoping that I'll have regained some energy by tomorrow!

Good morning everyone, a bit of a tough week for me this week. I’ve not been ill but just felt a bit meh kind of so I took a few days out to relax and started again on Thursday.

I am back on the healthier eating/exercise train now. I have set myself a little July challenge to do a 2 minute plank and 50 crunches daily. Although I would like to be closer to 10 stone I am feeling pretty slim but I’m sure all my excess weight is on my stomach so I’m going to focus on that more. I’m still going for a run on my days off, going to go for one after writing this actually 🙂
After reading a few threads on this forum I have realised that like many other I really have a binge personality when it comes to food, if I buy a packet of biscuits or a bar of chocolate I really can’t help but eat it all, if I don’t have it in I might crave it a bit but it’s not too bad so I really need to work on that. Once I’m happy with my weight I think I could easily maintain with a few treats such as a couple of biscuits in the evening but I need to figure out a way to stop myself at a treat amount rather than eating it all 😐 I will try working on that when I’ve lost a couple more pounds and see if I can have some weeks were I maintain as I get closer to a weight I’m happy with I guess

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 04/07/2021 22:03

@Wejustdontknow the state of my stomach really depresses me!! A C section (plus large babies) and subsequent surgery has left me with bad scarring; even when I was slim my stomach was still overhanging Sad and now of course it just looks like it's made of wobbly jelly...!

I think the risk of binge eating is what makes me so keen to join weight loss groups. If I feel even a bit accountable then I'm less likely to pig out!

Well done on the weight loss @sittinghere - did you manage a run?

LeftyLou · 05/07/2021 00:09

Hope everyone has had a good week and a lovely weekend.

Glad to hear you are all vaccinated now @KihoBebiluPute that is great but sorry it has made you feel bad. Think it is definitely worth keeping yourself rested as well as you can. This may sound bad but your MIL food does sound rather delicious. I hope you had a lovely time anyway.

Hope your ankle is feeling better @sittinghere and congratulations on your weight loss Smile

@ClaraTheImpossibleGirl I 100% agree about having someone to do the weight loss/healthy eating journey with. My partner said last night he wanted to make more of an effort and I think that will really help me along the way. I can also understand the frustration of listening to someone who moans about needing to loose weight and does nothing about it. Although I must admit I have been that person myself many times.

That sounds like a great challenge @Wejustdontknow. You have made me want to get my resistance band out and do some squats. Think I will challenge myself to do 30 a day for the month. As we are a few days into the month will do 30 in 30 days. It will be nice to see if it makes any difference.

There are some great tips there, thankyou @supermax30

I weighed myself yesterday and have lost 1 lb and 3/4 this is actually over 10 days rarher than a week but a loss is a loss and rather happy with that. My eating has been good and made some better choices. Including fruit and veg sticks for snacks rarher than the usually crisps and chocolate etc. However I have enioyed the odd treat. My exercise can improve only twice on the exercise bike. Still onwards and upwards Star

KihoBebiluPute · 05/07/2021 09:50

Thanks all for your good wishes. Home from MILs and have done no running whatsoever and barely any walking, and I am now up to 71kg!

Target is to get back to 70kg by Friday 9th.

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 05/07/2021 09:59

Well done on the loss @LeftyLou! And glad that you're feeling better about your choices in general. Do you think your DP was serious about making some changes? I've given up on mine really, he went to MIL's on Saturday and ate two massive meals plus snacks, then sat around doing nothing and ignoring the DC rather than actually playing with them. My friend who was very keen on us joining a weight loss/ activity programme has gone very quiet in the subject so I'm on my own again! (I did like the programme but it was around £100 per year, I wasn't sure if I could justify the cost!)

I've lost a massive half a pound this week Hmm which I'm a bit disappointed with TBH - did plenty of exercise, didn't eat a huge amount - and it's AF soon so I doubt I'll lose anything then. Sigh. Just keep chipping away at it...

As you can see @KihoBebiluPute time at my MIL's would make anyone put on weight, yours must be the same!! Hopefully you'll be back to 70kg in no time with a few runs. I did w7r1 today - 25 minutes non stop Shock - if I can keep going then I'll finish C25K at the same time the DC finish school for the summer, which would be a good point to get to!

LeftyLou · 05/07/2021 22:53

I really do hope so @ClaraTheImpossibleGirl. He doesn't really need to lose a lot though. Half to one stone and I think he would be happy. He likes going on long walks which includes lots of hills and i am not a big fan of that but would be happy to compromise if he does keep on track with me. To be fair him though he is very supportive of me.

I saw him weigh himself a couple of months a go and saw he weighed about 4 lbs less than me! Was quite embarrassing but I would never tell him what I weighed only what I had lost/gained.

My auntie has posted a WhatsApp group with some of my family members in to help us all keep motivated to lose weight for the wedding so really pleased about that. So I do feel really lucky for all the support.

I am going to go to the shops tomorrow to get things for tea for the rest of the week. Planning on Sea Bass with Risotto, cheese burger and perhaps creamy butter chicken all Pinch Of Nom.

Half is great Smile

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 06/07/2021 10:25

Ah @LeftyLou, I can't imagine what it would be like to be half a stone away from my target!! Grin at the moment it feels like I'm chipping away at mine tiny bit by tiny bit. Better than putting on, I suppose, but it's very slow progress...

Could you two plan shorter/ easier walks to keep everyone happy?! I like a hill walk but am not sure I'm fit enough for it at the moment Sad last year we took the DC on long but flat(ish) walks, round lakes, through parks etc. This year DP keeps saying he is "too busy" to spend hours walking Hmm but not too busy to spend hours in front of the TV

I'll have a look at my Pinch of Nom cookbooks, those recipes sound great! I really like the Two Chubby Cubs too. I was quite disheartened yesterday and allowed myself a few treats. Must get back on track soon...

LeftyLou · 07/07/2021 12:43

My goodness me neither @ClaraTheImpossibleGirl. I am not sure if I'll ever get there. What I am very good at doing is losing a few lbs and then putting it all back on again. But I am determined to do it this time! 💪

That is a good idea. I'll see if he fancies going this weekend. Think it could benefit both of us even if it is just to destress.

Watching telly is much easier. Maybe put on your childrens' favourite programme and then hide the remote so that if he needs to watch tv that is all he has. Is that cruel?

I do believe having a few treats is the key to helping stay on track but its the not going overboard which is the hardest part.

I hope your week is going well Smile and thankyou for mentioning Chubby Cubs I had so much fun looking through their recipes and going to try some. Their overnight oats section looks amazing!

Hope everyone is having a good week ao far. Daffodil

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 07/07/2021 14:36

The Cubs are lots of fun @LeftyLou!

I am so tempted to hide the TV remote but DP would just fall asleep in front of it regardless Grin

I'm ordering more waterproofs and warm clothing for our holidays, as we'll be in the UK and I don't want the weather to ruin anything! I'm hoping to keep very active and burn off the extra calories which will inevitably be consumed when I'm not doing the cooking...

LeftyLou · 09/07/2021 11:41

I am going to start again with my progress.

Friday 25th June: 13 stone 7 (oops) bmi 35.7
Saturday 3rd July: 13 stone 5.4 bmi 35.4 -1.6 lbs loss
Friday 9th July13 stone 2.8 bmi 34.9 -2.6lbs loss

This is it now! Bearing in mind I am only 5'1 I have a long way to go to even be overweight! I am so happy with the results and hoping to get some good 1 lb to 2 lb losses over the next few weeks. No more losing some and gaining, losing and gaining. I never want to see these numbers again!

They seem so nice and down to earth @ClaraTheImpossibleGirl 😊 and so hilarious too.

Hope you have fun on your holiday Smile I am so looking forward to going away in October. Would love to go somewhere sooner got a couple of weeks booked over in just over a month so hoping my partner can take some time off too and do some nice things.

Happy Friday!

Wejustdontknow · 09/07/2021 15:03

Hi all, well done on the loss @LeftyLou sometimes it’s a good idea to start afresh as I think it clears the mind a bit.
I was hoping to maintain this week but have managed to lose 1lb although I may see the scales rise over the next couple of days as I haven’t had the healthiest diet. Ds8’s school bubble burst in tuesday so he is currently isolating which meant me and dp had to juggle homeschool and work between us, luckily he can go back next Tuesday so gets the last few days of the term at school

30/3 11 stone 6lbs
2/4 11 stone 4lbs -2lbs
9/4 11 stone 2lbs -2lbs
16/4 11 stone 4lbs +2lbs
23/4 11 stone 1lb -3lbs
30/4 10 stone 13lb -2lbs
7/5 11 stone +1lb
14/5 10 stone 13lb -1lb
21/5 10 stone 12lb -1lb
28/5 no weigh in due to holiday
11/6 10 stone 11lb -1lb
18/06 10 stone 9lb -2lb
25/06 10 stone 8lb -1lb
2/7 10 stone 9lb +1lb
9/7 10 stone 8lb -1lb

Still heading towards the mini target of 10 stone 6lb I set myself, maybe next Friday if I have a good week. In 8 weeks me and the kids are going to a luxury lodge with my side of the family to celebrate my grandma’s 80th that we couldn’t do in lockdown and there will be bikini wearing for the hot tub and pool so I would really like to have lost a few more lb’s before then 🤞

KihoBebiluPute · 09/07/2021 17:56

Very well done @LeftyLou and @Wejustdontknow - doing great!

I have been quite mediocre both at the running and at the healthy eating to be quite honest. Managed 3 runs totalling 16.1km compared with a usual total around 30km and sometimes more. Have continued to eat somewhat more than usual rather than getting back on the wagon. Tbh I am surprised I haven't gained even more but I was still at 71kg this morning. This weightloss lark is a bit of a slog and I feel I don't mind plateauing for a bit, so long as I don't gain much more, but I do need to go down a but further sooner or later as my BMI is tantalisingly at something like 26ish and I really want to be firmly in "not overweight" before I stop trying to get lighter.

LeftyLou · 10/07/2021 16:30

Thank you @Wejustdontknow Smile I was very pleased with it especially as I wasn't expecting so much. I remember when I joined SW and lost 3.5 in first week and 1.5 next few after that so if that happens again I'll be over the moon. You are so right about starting afresh I feel so much better for it.

That sounds lovely and something to look forward to. I hope your grandma has a wonderful birthday Flowers
Congratulations on your 1 lbs loss 😊

Three runs in the week is fantastic and hope you're proud of that @KihoBebiluPute . Thankyou to you too for words of support Smile

I was looking at another thread and someone was saying they stayed the same for around 1 month and someone said changing your diet up slightly might help. Not sure the correct facts behind that.

Had pizza takeaway last night. Is one of my favourite places and off the scale calories but enjoyed it so much so no regrets. I went for a walk today not far 30 mins ish got my heartrate up a little but to be honest was nice just to get some fresh air.

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 11/07/2021 14:25

@Wejustdontknow your luxury lodge trip sounds amazing!! I'm sure you will all have a wonderful time!

Well done on adjusting your mindset @LeftyLou and continuing on the weight loss journey. I was shocked when I saw my starting weight but like you, never want to see those figures again.

My BMI is still hovering at just under 30 @KihoBebiluPute and I definitely want to get under 25!! I finished w7 today and really want to finish C25K before the end of the school term, I've never completed it before. I'm Shredding when I can't run and think it's starting to make a difference, although my diet has been fairly terrible recently: too many carbs and not enough effort made to eat healthily Confused

I'm still trying to justify paying £100+ for a new health & nutrition programme for me. It looks really good, I need the motivation... but also they arrange get togethers and I'm fed up plodding along on my own! With DP being hopelessly lazy at the moment, I'm feeling quite lonely most of the time...

KihoBebiluPute · 16/07/2021 07:05

Happy friday to all, and thank you for the encouragement @LeftyLou and well done on the running @ClaraTheImpossibleGirl

9th Jul 71.0kg (11st 2½lb)
16th Jul 70.4kg (11st 1¼lb)

So at least I am heading back down but it's slow going. I still haven't really found my mojo again on eating, I had absolutely loads of snacks yesterday. That really needs to stop. Running mojo is also still a lot less than I was managing to sustain a few weeks ago - total for last 7 days 22.6km. I know that if I can get both these factors sorted then I can get back down under 11st and then onwards to getting BMI below 25. It is within reach if I try.

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 16/07/2021 14:17

Well done on the downwards trend @KihoBebiluPute! I've got a horrible earache at the moment (after DS2 was ill before) so didn't run or Shred today, but hoping to get back on it tomorrow. I have one week 8 run left to complete this week... really want to finish C25K this time round!!

Like you I'm having too many snacks - haven't had the energy to make proper meals Sad - TBH I'd live off hot drinks if I could at the moment! I do want to get my BMI under 25 but also to get my body fat % under 30. I had some blood tests the other day - only routine as I haven't had any for a few years - but hopefully the GP will alert me if there's anything else I need to work on!

LeftyLou · 16/07/2021 16:48

Friday 25th June : 13 stone 7 bmi 35.7 (start)
Saturday 3rd July: 13 stone 5.4 bmi 35.4 -1.6 loss
Friday 9th July: 13 stone 2.8 bmi 34.9 -2.6 loss
Friday 16th July: 13 stone 1.6 bmi 34.7 -1.2 loss

Hope everyone is doing okay. Was so happy to see the scales go down again this week. Feel like I am finally making myself accountable for my weight. Hoping to see see the next number on the scales next week. Fingers crossed.

I am the same with snacking. I don't tend to eat huge portions of meals but boy can I snack and usually on the wrong things. I don't think I'll be able to stop because I do like having something so its more of a case of choosing healthy options.

Hoping you able to get your mojo back @KihoBebiluPute. You've done so fantastic so far and seeing how far you have come is an inspiration.

@ClaraTheImpossibleGirl whatever ache I have at any time I always feel it is the world's worse, but ear ache truly is awful. 😣 hope you are feeling better soon. Flowers

Aim for next week is to see 12 stone on the scale. Even if it is the very high end. Hope everyone has a lovely weekend.

Scales are up this week 😬 it is AF which probably isn’t helping but as some others say it’s been all about the snacks the past couple of weeks and I knew the increase was coming.

A little busy tonight so will go back and catch up on the thread and how everyone’s doing tomorrow when I have a few spare minutes 🙂
