Is anyone planning on losing weight in 2021, but without following any specific diet?

I’ve tried low carb, plant based, GI diets, sugar free...the list goes on.

But i know that for me, I just need to eat better and move more. I can’t imagine the rest of my life without rice/chocolate etc, and if my weightloss is going to be sustainable, it can’t exclude any food groups.

So my plan is to just eat less unhealthy foods, and eat more veggies.
I’m starting today, but am aware that others may want to wait till new year, that’s fine.

Anyone else want to join me?

Thanks @LeftyLou - earache is still here, I don't have much appetite due to the heat but am having to eat regularly to crunch down the painkillers! Well done on the BMI coming down, mine is just under obese now (which was a happy moment!!) and I'm working on my body fat % too.

Hope all is well @Wejustdontknow; annoying as it is to see a gain on the scales, at least you know why it is, I suppose? It's very frustrating when you think you've had a good week but the scales either don't move or even worse, go upwards Shock

LeftyLou · 23/07/2021 14:45

Friday 25th June 13 stone 7 bmi 35.7
Saturday 3rd July 13 stone 5.4 bmi 35.4 -1.6 loss
Friday 9th July 13 stone 2.8 bmi 34.9 -2.6 loss
Friday 16th July 13 stone 1.6 bmi 34.7 -1.2 loss
Friday 23rd July 13 stone 1 bmi 34.6 -0.6 loss

Overall lose so far = 6lbs
Chest= 1 inch loss
Waist= 1 inch loss
Hips= 1 inch loss

I have measured other parts of my body too, but they are the most important to me to keep a track of at the moment.

I said last week that I wanted to see the next number down on the scales but obviously that hasn't happened. I am still over the moon though because I am going to take any loss where I can. Instead of thinking I "only" lost half this week I am thinking I have lost 6 over all.

Having said that, I am going to push myself to get at least 1 lbs of next week there are 8 weeks til the wedding and and 8 lbs will take me to around a stone loss! I have a very good feeling then I will definitely fit into my dress 💃🤞

How is everyone doing, hope all is well in general.

I am going to make an effort to post on here more regularly. Think it will help to keep me accountable too.

KihoBebiluPute · 23/07/2021 18:45

So not quite back to the lowest weight I achieved about a month ago, but getting there. I have been a little better at the no-snacking and a little better at the running but not achieving my best at either mainly because the weather is more suitable for being collapsed on a deckchair eating icecream rather than going for a run and sticking to fruit. Running total for the week 32.3km though. Mostly achieved on the days I managed to get up at the crack of dawn and run before the sun got too high.

LeftyLou · 23/07/2021 19:08

Definitely will @KihoBebiluPute Smile thankyou. Congratulations on your weight loss too.

One thing I will say which I am going to have to stop doing is being over indulgent at the weekend. I go way over the top and I just don't think it is helping out in the long run.

I have managed around 400 calories burned on the bike this week. I was finding it harder with the hot weather even with an air con. I plan to incorporate some strength training too 2 to 3 days. See how I go with that.

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 23/07/2021 21:42

Well done on the losses @KihoBebiluPute and @LeftyLou Smile

I lost 1lb last week but am still a bit under the weather and consoling myself with toast Blush it's just been so bloody hot that I don't want to cook, but still need to eat little and often to take the painkillers. I've been running/ Shredding and walking a lot, will see how it works out next week!

Wejustdontknow · 24/07/2021 10:51

Well done everyone on the weight loss, your all doing so well.
I’ve been slightly better food wise this week but still not as good as I should be and way to many unhealthy snacks.
I haven’t done any exercise over the past week, school holidays coupled with 28 degrees has left me with little motivation but it was cooler this morning so I have got up and been for a run. I have just had a smart hula hoop delivered so I’m going to try doing 15 minutes a day for a week and see if I can lose any weight from my stomach. I measured and at my biggest point it is 36 inches so I will track that over the next couple of weeks and see if I can reduce it 🤞

30/3 11 stone 6lbs
2/4 11 stone 4lbs -2lbs
9/4 11 stone 2lbs -2lbs
16/4 11 stone 4lbs +2lbs
23/4 11 stone 1lb -3lbs
30/4 10 stone 13lb -2lbs
7/5 11 stone +1lb
14/5 10 stone 13lb -1lb
21/5 10 stone 12lb -1lb
28/5 no weigh in due to holiday
11/6 10 stone 11lb -1lb
18/06 10 stone 9lb -2lb
25/06 10 stone 8lb -1lb
2/7 10 stone 9lb +1lb
9/7 10 stone 8lb -1lb
16/7 10 stone 10lb +2lb
23/7 10 stone 9lb -1lb

Managed to drop a lb which considering what I’ve eaten and the lack of exercise was not bad going but I really want to start seeing numbers going down again as I have really stopped trying the past few of weeks

LeftyLou · 26/07/2021 13:52

How was everyone's weekend? We ended up going out for a meal on the Saturday Pizza and Waffles and ice cream. I stepped on the scales this morning and 1 lbs up. I can live with that!

That is a great loss @Wejustdontknow
I think it is normal for us to have days and even weeks when we can't commit 100%.

Sorry to hear you are still not 100% @ClaraTheImpossibleGirl. Toast does seem the best option. Are you having it dry or with a little butter (just been nosey) just wondering when you feel like eating a bit more but still not as well as you can be if there would be someone that can make you something.

Aim for this week is to stick to 1500 calories or less per week (no less than 1300). NHS app put me on 1522 per week but think I can manage on a little less and to burn 200-300 calories on the bike each day. Going to friends fest next weekend so will no doubt be another overindulgence.

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 26/07/2021 22:33

Well done on the 1lb loss @Wejustdontknow! How are you doing with the smart hula hoop? The DC have normal ones which I may have a go with (when they aren't around as I am embarrassingly rubbish Blush)

I'm up 2lb this week @LeftyLou Sad but I think it's mostly because I'm still feeling rubbish and have eaten too much toast and jam - I've spent two days lying on the sofa as much as I can. The DC haven't been too well either but all our Covid tests (LF & PCR) are negative, which is a relief. I'll weigh in on Friday to see if the 2lb has come off again.

In better news I am a C25K graduate!! Went for a run late this evening to avoid the sticky heat, promised myself I didn't have to do the full 30 minutes if I couldn't manage it, but did plod run the whole way. Never managed to actually graduate before!

Hope everyone has had a good weekend!

LeftyLou · 28/07/2021 16:25

Toast and jam sounds nice. Honestly, as much as a 2lb gain is annoying dont worry too much about it. We can control what we eat and how much but we cannot control when we are ill. If you have been keeping a track of your progress @ClaraTheImpossibleGirl maybe have a look and see how far you have come. With any gains or maintains I bet the general trend is downwards.

Congratulations on your c25k achievement! Sounds fantastic. I did that about 4 years ago and did the race for life. I then stopped completely so would have to start from the beginning again if I ever did it. I was about 2 stone lighter as well so I would definitely want to lose some more before doing it.

Not much to tell from this end. I ended up on the bike on Monday and went for a walk after work. Really glad I did as the weather was glorious now I think it is just going to be rain from now on. I went over my calories yesterday so going to keep an eye on them today and probably look at been slightly below today and tomorrow.

Hope everyone is doing okay.

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 28/07/2021 22:21

I succumbed to some more toast this evening @LeftyLou Blush but I did go for a 5K run first! I try not to eat too late but was very hungry...

It's scary how quickly you lose fitness if you stop doing something - I'm a bit worried about going away next week and not being able to run/ Shred/ do any cardio apart from walking! DS1 wants to take his bike so perhaps we can go out together, him cycling and me running very slowly

DS2 is still ill. Sigh. I thought it was a bug that we'd all gone down with but I'm almost better as is DS1, whereas DS2 still has a cough and temperature. Thankfully our PCR tests were negative but I have no idea if he'll be better by the time we go on holiday Sad

KihoBebiluPute · 30/07/2021 07:20

Well done on all the updates and news all.

I have done hardly any running this week - just one 8km run 6 days ago. However this is because I have been working on a major DIY project and I have been aware exhausted as if I had been running every day so I assume I have been burning lots of calories. Snacking hasn't been too bad either and I am down to 68.6 (10st 11¼lb) - down 2.5lb so that's excellent and not been massively a conscious effort I have just been too darn busy! Intending to have chippy takeaway tonight and I am pretty sure I deserve it.

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 30/07/2021 10:28

That DIY project is obviously hard work @KihoBebiluPute!! Well done on the 2.5lb off and enjoy the chippy tea!

On Monday I was up by 2lb from the previous Monday and sulking furiously but today I am down by 2lb (as in, apparently I have lost 4lb since Monday, which I don't think is right!). Works out at losing 1lb per week which I think is fair enough, I've been Shredding and have graduated from C25K (first time ever! Grin) but food hasn't been great as I'm just trying to eat up everything in the house before we go away at the weekend. But, that takes me to 25.5lb lost and the official half way point in my weight loss journey, what a milestone! Now only 2.5lb to go and it's another stoneiversary Smile

Hope you are well @LeftyLou @Wejustdontknow and anyone else catching up!

KihoBebiluPute · 30/07/2021 13:23

Well done @ClaraTheImpossibleGirl that's great! I wonder if the 2lb gain previously was just a phantom/water retention/wonky scales? But anyway its great you are back on track!

DIY project is very slow
Need to stop wasting time on mumsnet and get on with it

LeftyLou · 30/07/2021 14:29

Hi all, hope everyone has had a good week. Those losses are brilliant ! Really inspiring . Definitely deserved a chippy tea @KihoBebiluPute yum!

I agree about it possibly been water retention @ClaraTheImpossibleGirl but sounds like you have done extra fantastic considering you have been so ill and looking after poorly children too. Truly hats of to you! Honestly can't begin to imagine what that is like.

My stats

Friday 25th June 13 stone 7 bmi 35.7
Saturday 3rd July 13 stone 5.4 bmi 35.4 - 1.6 loss
Friday 9th July 13 stone 2.8 bmi 34.9 -2.6 loss
Friday 16th July 13 stone 1.6 bmi 34.7 -1.2 loss
Friday 23rd July 13stone 1 bmi 34.6 -0.6 loss
Friday 30th July 12 stone 13.8 bmi 34.4 -1.2 loss

Another loss and so happy! Here is to another good week! 😊
