Is anyone planning on losing weight in 2021, but without following any specific diet?

I’ve tried low carb, plant based, GI diets, sugar free...the list goes on.

But i know that for me, I just need to eat better and move more. I can’t imagine the rest of my life without rice/chocolate etc, and if my weightloss is going to be sustainable, it can’t exclude any food groups.

So my plan is to just eat less unhealthy foods, and eat more veggies.
I’m starting today, but am aware that others may want to wait till new year, that’s fine.

Anyone else want to join me?

@clare8allthepies that’s a brilliant loss for just a few days! Well done!

@Daisychainsandlaughs brilliant loss, well done! We are heading out for a walk at about 4pm (when DH gets home from work).

Wow, well done everyone! Wish I could say the same but I’ve only lost a pound this week. I haven’t been exercising as much as I normally do as I’m off work (where I normally get lots of steps in!)
I won’t be at work for the next however many weeks so I need to up my game! You guys keep me motivated!

Lemonyfuckit · 08/01/2021 10:45

Well done everyone on the weight loss this week!

My weigh in this morning was 76.5kg, down 1.5kg from Mon 4th which I'm really pleased with (although am sure largely water weight and general Christmas gluttony bloat).

@Bookaholic73 it's the first time I tried non-alcoholic and am very pleasantly surprised! Went for Juniperl on Amazon. I think Gordon's have just released one but can't find it yet, I know lots of people haven't liked the Sipsmith one but haven't tried that yet. This is quite botanical, quite strong quinine / bitter flavours which I like, definitely not quite as nice as real gin but not bad at all - tastes like a 'grownup' drink. Can't seem to find an accurate calorie count for this brand anywhere but am having a bit of a guess on MFP that my gin and light tonic is about 65 cals.

Bookaholic73 · 08/01/2021 10:59

@Coconuttygirl don’t be disheartened, 1lb is a great loss! It’s the recommended weekly loss for sustainable and long term maintenance, so you’re on track!

Well done on your loss @Lemonyfuckit Smile I think I’ll have a look on Amazon for the AF gin, thanks for letting me know about it.

Also weighed myself this morning.
Started on the 5th at 11st 2lb
Today 8th st 11st 1lb.
Only 1lb but that is what i am after, as I am more likely to keep on track. So 2st lighter by the summer is my aim.
Also worked out my acronym WAIT, because slow and steady with nothing forbidden (but less carbs):
W - weight, lose it.
A - active, so will try and do the 250 steps every hour, so moving frequently.
I - imbibe less, I know that is where a lot of my calories are.
T - tone, so will try and do the daily yoga sessions with Adrienne.

peachgreen · 08/01/2021 15:15

Official weigh in and I'm 2.2 stone down since I started at the end of October. 3.7lb loss this week which I'm very pleased with as I'm aiming for 1.5lbs a week on average. I have a lot more to lose than most of you so that's why it's faster right now - it'll no doubt slow down and plateau over the forthcoming weeks. I'd like to lose a further 3 stone this year, that would be my absolute ideal.

ChippyTea16 · 08/01/2021 16:53

Hi everyone, just posting an update, have done all my insanity sessions this week but have still been eating Xmas snacks. They are almost all gone and won’t be buying more. We always meal plan so my core meals have been fine/healthy but my period arrived today so feeling a bit bloated and bleugh.

Haven’t weighed today, I prefer to do it fortnightly and I know I won’t have lost this week so don’t want to demotivate myself. Just going to carry on with the exercise and next weeks plan will be to reduce snacking.

Well done @Bookaholic73 and everyone else with all the losses this week!

Norwester · 08/01/2021 20:42

Forgot to log my weigh-in. I'm at....

12 stone 7

I didn't weigh myself before, so this is my starting point.

Hope I can lose a pound or two this week!

Bookaholic73 · 08/01/2021 22:07

@TheThreeHeadedBeast yes I agree, 1lb a week is great! Well done! Love your acronym too!

@peachgreen you’re doing great, that’s amazing progress!

@ChippyTea16 you’re doing brilliant with the exercise! I wish I was as good.

@Norwester great to know your starting point!

I’ve been desperate for snacks this evening. Only had an apple, but if DH had been willing to go and buy some chocolate, I definitely would have been munching on a big bar of galaxy right now.

KihoBebiluPute · 08/01/2021 23:17

I said I would join once the Christmas goodies were gone. There is still some chocolate and cheese in the house but modest enough quantities that I can start calorie counting and let them be very occasional treats.

Starting weigh-in 77.6kg (12st3lb)
Target 62kg (9st10lb)

ApolloandDaphne · 09/01/2021 08:56

I have lost 4 lb this week. It feels like a great start!

CosyAcorn · 09/01/2021 08:59

@KihoBebiluPute the Christmas goodies are still hanging around here too. I have a Thornton chocolate reindeer that I haven't opened yet!

Yesterday was a day 'off' the healthy eating for DD's birthday but I'm back on it today. Going to be essay writing most of the day. Deadline looming on Monday!

Hope you all have a good day!

Bookaholic73 · 09/01/2021 09:37

Morning everyone. I’m so pleased I didn’t eat the junk food last night. The chocolate was really calling me, but I resisted.

@KihoBebiluPute we still have cheese too, but like you I just have it as an occasional treat.

@ApolloandDaphne brilliant, thats a great loss!

@CosyAcorn did your DD have a good birthday? Well, as good as it can be with current restrictions.

Today I’m heading out for a walk, then doing some meal prep and meal planning. Makes life so much easier!

SingToTheSky · 09/01/2021 10:52

Argh. Lack of sleep definitely affects my eating. I couldn’t sleep till about 4am and it’s aaaaaall about the carbs today! I ended up ordering a weighted blanket which I’ve been procrastinating over for months. Hopefully that’ll help me sleep!

I need to sort out easy breakfast options too. I like cooked breakfasts with eggs, avocado etc but if I’m knackered I just can’t motivate myself to do it.

Bookaholic73 · 09/01/2021 18:18

@SingToTheSky I’m on the carbs today too. That’s ok though, I’ll make sure I lay off them tomorrow. I know what you mean about the sleep, poor sleep always results in a carb feast for me! I hope you sleep better tonight.

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 09/01/2021 22:29

Apologies for falling off the thread... I really have done nothing much so far about weight loss apart from think about how nice it would be Grin

I've bought a diet planner and joined a local group's two week 'kick start' programme, but it doesn't begin until a week on Monday, giving me a whole week to procrastinate and eat more cake plan meals and stock up on veg. I'm trying to make sure the DC do a reasonable amount of exercise and don't have too much screen time (ha!) but it was definitely easier in the summer when I could go running as well!

ColouringPencils · 09/01/2021 23:14

Well done for the weight loss everyone! I have been quiet all week as feeling a bit overwhelmed being back to work and home schooling. So tired! I haven't managed to do yoga or my full steps every day. Trying not to be too hard on myself, as having the kids at home really does make those things harder. I am pleased that I have got to Day 9 of Dry Jan and today is the first day I have really wanted a drink. If anyone has a Heron nearby, I got a massive bottle of lime juice which is incredibly strong. An inch in a glass of lemonade felt like a proper grown up drink, which is what I needed tonight. Did quite a big walk today although the kids were getting on each other's nerves, so that was not the most fun.

ColouringPencils · 09/01/2021 23:17

Have any of you found your skin has improved since eating more healthily, or has any good tips for skin otherwise? I was hoping not drinking would help with this, but it hasn't so far. My skin is just awful at the moment, both dry and spotty. I also get dark circles around the eyes, which I am sure fluctuations and not based on whether I am tired, but I can't work out what causes it.

42isthemeaning · 09/01/2021 23:54

Can I join in on this thread even though I'm very late to it?
Feeling very ashamed for allowing myself to constantly overeat and secretly eat things like peanuts, crackers and sweeties. (Christmas leftovers!) I'm someone who eats even though I'm not hungry - a definite emotional eater.
I've always been 2-3 stones overweight and I managed to lose about 10lbs during the first lockdown but I'm frightened I've gained it all and more. I don't like using the scales but I'd like my tummy to stop sticking out and my waistband to fit properly. This is due to belly fat and eating crap which causes the bloating. It was so much better when I ate less rubbish.
I do half an hour cross trainer every day and manage a half hour walk most days as well but obviously
I'm not shifting any weight with my ridiculous food intake. I used to follow MyFitnessPal but I always end up ditching it!
Anyway I hope you don't mind me joining in and I will hopefully become more inspired!Smile

Bookaholic73 · 10/01/2021 08:22

Morning everyone!

I’m going to do a strict day of low carb today, as my stomach is so uncomfortable this morning after eating biscuits, bread etc yesterday.

@ClaraTheImpossibleGirl I agree, it’s so much easier in the summer! But YouTube has free fitness videos if all else fails.

@ColouringPencils I find that my skin drastically improves with no alcohol, but it takes a good 6-8 weeks before noticing a difference, plus you need to drink lots of water too.
I wouldn’t be too hard on yourself. Homeschooling and working is hard enough, let alone doing anything else! Just take small steps towards your goal and I’m sure you’ll get there.

@42isthemeaning welcome to the thread! Absolutely 100% no shame here. My problem area is my stomach too. It’s the first place I gain weight and sticks out like I’m 9 months pregnant. But it’s also the first place I lose weight from, luckily.
I’m an emotional eater too, so I now make sure that I don’t eat when I’m angry or sad etc, as I don’t have an off switch around food when I’m feeling those emotions.

Today I’m going to mainly be doing work this morning, then I’ll try and get out for a walk this afternoon or evening.

CosyAcorn · 10/01/2021 08:33

Morning everyone!

@Bookaholic73 I've had a carby couple of days too! Birthday cake from DD's birthday. She had a lovely day. With a few friends dropping off presents at the door for her and her classmates sending video messages.

I've managed to maintain but I would love to wake up tomorrow and see a different number on the scales tomorrow. So I'm not snacking today and I'm going to do some kind of exercise today. Either a family walk this afternoon or a youtube workout this evening.

Welcome @42isthemeaning!

@ColouringPencils the homeschooling is hard! I think one of the biggest things is you don't get a mental break from looking after the kids. It makes me tired, and when I'm tired I want to solve it with food!

Bookaholic73 · 10/01/2021 08:45

I’m going to write out my meal plan for today here, just to keep me accountable.
Please remember that I’m doing low carb, which means I am having plenty of fats though.

Breakfast: Eggs, bacon, sausage and a cauliflower hash brown.

Lunch: tuna salad with mexicana cheese.

Dinner: Leftover bean chilli with veggies.

Drinks: plenty of water. Coffee and tea.

eattolose · 10/01/2021 18:18

I have the worst hangover today. My husband and I just went a bit overboard for no reason, 4 bottles of wine and kitchen karaoke. Bed at midnight and up at 7:30 with our three year old!

I've been so good today to make up for it!

Skipped breakfast because I do 16:8.
Lunch: Edam, pitta, butter, raw carrots and Quorn cocktail sausages.

Dinner will be: jacket potato, butter, fish fingers, corn on cob, Savoy cabbage, corguettes, and more (cooked) carrots!

KihoBebiluPute · 10/01/2021 19:13

I am not sure whether today has been a good day or not. On the plus side, I did a long run this morning and my smartwatch says I have done 15,000 steps and burned 2200 calories. On the minus side my DS persuaded me that we needed to do some baking. I have eaten cake. I did make sure it was relatively low fat and low sugar (used apples for sweetness instead of sugar) but I don't know which of these will have outweighed the other!

NoJetter · 10/01/2021 19:24

Hi, I’d like to join please. I’ve been healthy eating since 2nd Jan and following specific diets never works for me. I’m trying to stick to under 1200 calories, logging my food on Fitbit, normally vegetarian but doing veganuary. Generally try to have a Mediterranean type diet. I’m an emotional eater and trying to break the cycle of binge eating, feeling like I’ve ruined my diet and carrying on eating!

Started at 13st8 (heaviest I’ve been when not pregnant) hoping to get back down to 10st. I had 2 children 18 months apart which didn’t help and then have had a slipped disc so bad I was unable to walk the last 6 months and put on even more weight. I had surgery on it in December and while I’m still in a bit of pain I can now walk for about 45 mins so hoping this will help me lose some weight too.
