Is anyone planning on losing weight in 2021, but without following any specific diet?

I’ve tried low carb, plant based, GI diets, sugar free...the list goes on.

But i know that for me, I just need to eat better and move more. I can’t imagine the rest of my life without rice/chocolate etc, and if my weightloss is going to be sustainable, it can’t exclude any food groups.

So my plan is to just eat less unhealthy foods, and eat more veggies.
I’m starting today, but am aware that others may want to wait till new year, that’s fine.

Anyone else want to join me?

Hope your run went well @CosyAcorn!

Welcome to the thread @sittinghere, I hope everything is going well so far Smile

Well done on getting rid of the spammer @KihoBebiluPute - didn't they promise a 5st weight loss in 4 weeks or something equally plausible?! Grin so annoying - I get enough of that in RL with a couple of my friends doing Juice Plus and saying repeatedly that it is SO EASY and can be yours for only £££...

DP still isn't sure about the hair @LeftyLou - have to say it's still not exactly as I wanted it BUT should be there in a couple of months when I'm going to a friend's wedding. Also, at least it will be shorter for summer, I get sweaty enough with my excess pounds!

2lb gain for me today Sad not sure if it's the result of a bit of overindulgence last week or my Covid jab! I had it on Friday and have felt a bit odd ever since; not awful but like I'm recovering from the flu - tired, achey, temperature keeps shooting up. I haven't eaten as well as I could have done but then I simply haven't had the energy. Back on it this morning though like @Wejustdontknow with a workout!!

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 10/05/2021 10:32

PS @Bookaholic73 - I am slightly heavier than you at 12st 12lb and have just over 2st to lose (target weight 10st 6lb, so 34lb to go Sad) - I've worked out that it can still be done by Christmas though, which is what I'm aiming for...!

Evening everyone.
12 stone 4.5 today, which is 2 pounds more than yesterday. Hopefully this will vanish before Friday's weigh-in. I've just got back from week 4 run 2 of c25k. Seems to be going ok so far and I'm relieved that I seem to go faster than people walking.

Morning everyone!

Love your motivation @Wejustdontknow! Can you send those vibes my way?

Hope those vaccine side effects ease off for you now @ClaraTheImpossibleGirl. I can never stick to healthy eating if I'm feeling off ...it tired...or moody 😅

Well done @sittinghere for doing your run!

I did enjoy my little run yesterday. But did put away a fair amount of chocolate yesterday too. I'm meeting a friend for brunch today so resisting temptation is my main challenge today!

Wejustdontknow · 11/05/2021 09:05

Morning, I did manage to stay on track yesterday and the exercise must have done something as my stomach muscles are aching this morning. Still 11 stone on the scales today
The deadline for my final uni assignment of the year is looming ever closer, due in 9 days 😬 so I need to really focus on that today, with it being my day off I would like to try and get another 1000 words done then I will just have the conclusion to go tomorrow and I then have a week to tweak it if needed so I am off to sit at my desk and hopefully write something that at least reads like I know kind of what I’m talking about 🤞

sittinghere · 14/05/2021 07:10

9 April 12 st 10 (heaviest ever)
16 April 12 st 8
23 April 12 st 6.5
30 April 12 st 6
7 May 12 st 3.5
14 May 12 st 3.5

So no loss this week. My weight had been very up and down this week - up to 12 stone 4.5 one day and down to 12 stone 1.5 the next.

KihoBebiluPute · 14/05/2021 07:27

Good morning all and happy Friday. I haven't been on the thread since last Friday so well done to those of you who checked in with good news. Supportive and encouraging vibes to those who haven't been losing but will surely be on track again soon. Life is so complex that sometimes it is ok its important to be kind to yourself. planning ones eating and exercise to keep that downward trajectory takes a lot of time. I know I would never have got started with weight loss in the first place without having been furloughed and having loads of spare time to plan and execute low calorie meals and plenty of time for exercise. Struggling when there's other stuff going on is totally understandable, and sometimes we put in plenty of effort and don't see the results on the scales but we will get therein the end.

I have a happy weigh-in-day today.
8th Jan 77.6kg (12st 3lb)
15th Jan 76.5kg (12st ½lb)
22nd Jan 76.5kg (12st ½lb)
29th Jan 76.2kg (12st 0lb)
5th Feb 75.1kg (11st 11½lb)
12th Feb 74.9kg (11st 11lb)
19th Feb 74.5kg (11st 10¼lb)
26th Feb 73.6kg (11st 8¼lb)
5th Mar 73.3kg (11st 7½lb)
12th Mar 74.4kg (11st 10lb)
19th Mar 73.0kg (11st 7lb)
26th Mar 72.1kg (11st 5lb)
2nd Apr 72.3kg (11st 5½lb)
9th Apr 72.2kg (11st 5¼lb)
16th Apr 72.2kg (11st 5¼lb)
23rd Apr 71.5kg (11st 3½lb)
30th Apr 70.8kg (11st 2lb)
7th May 70.8kg (11st 2lb)
14th May 70.0kg (11st ¼lb)

So down by a pound and three quarters and I am celebrating a "kilogramaversary" (not quite reached stoneiversary)

Might not have quite as much success next week as we have two pub trips planned which tend to sabotage my progress.

KihoBebiluPute · 14/05/2021 07:38

Missed off exercise tally:
44km running. No significant distances of walking/cycling etc)

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 14/05/2021 09:29

Well done on the 'kilogramaversary' (and the running!) @KihoBebiluPute!!

How is your uni work going @Wejustdontknow?

Weighed myself today and the scales yo-yoed by 1lb each time, split the difference and I am now 12st 11.5lb, down 1lb since Monday (possibly - who knows with the wobbly scales!). Was in a tearing hurry though we were having a new bed delivered early doors and DP had neglected to mention that I would need to dismantle the old one Hmm which I wasn't able to do (a) in the time available and (b) without any tools! So instead of being all beautifully assembled and ready, the new bed is still in pieces round the house. Sigh...

This week has just been really busy for me and I've hardly had time to do any proper cooking, hopefully things will improve by next week once the bed should be all done. I've done plenty of walking and a short HIIT workout most days but I feel like I need to do something more to actually shock my body into giving up some of those pounds!! I watched a bit of the Davina menopause programme (will finish it later) and know that it's important to lose a couple of stone and build up my bone strength as I'm now mid 40s; easier said than done though, eh?!

Hope you are both doing ok @CosyAcorn @sittinghere

KihoBebiluPute · 14/05/2021 10:28

Thank you @ClaraTheImpossibleGirl and well done on the probable pound loss! Yes to wobbly scales/wobbly bathroom floor - There is one spot in my bathroom that always gives me a slightly higher weight so I avoid weighing myself there! Good luck with your bed deconstruction and construction - I am sure that will count as exercise too!

@sittinghere don't be discouraged by the yoyoing - some of that may be the same unreliability of scales but even so, the general trajectory is definitely down and you are doing great.

Wejustdontknow · 14/05/2021 13:45

Well done everyone, some great weight loss/maintaining and like kiho said, it’s all heading in the right direction

30/3 11 stone 6lbs -starting weight
2/4 11 stone 4lbs -2lbs
9/4 11 stone 2lbs -2lbs
16/4 11 stone 4lbs +2lbs
23/4 11 stone 1lb -3lbs
30/4 10 stone 13lb -2lbs
7/5 11 stone +1lb
14/5 10 stone 13lb -1lb

Back down in the 10’s this week and determined to never see 11 again 🤞

Essay is going well @ClaraTheImpossibleGirl 800 words roughly to go with a week left to work on it but I will probably have it submitted by Tuesday then I can take some time off from studying before starting the prep for next year 😬

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 15/05/2021 22:31

I was exhausted after the furniture moving @KihoBebiluPute - hopefully that will translate into calories burned!!

Well done on the weight loss @Wejustdontknow 👏

From Monday things should be more back to normal at home and I'm planning to increase my exercise as I don't think what I'm doing at the moment (short HIIT workout and around 15K steps per day) is quite enough to get those pesky pounds shifted!! Might go back to the Shred which almost kills me but that's probably the point and I definitely need to start eating better after a weekend of takeaways with the DC...

Wejustdontknow · 16/05/2021 10:13

Did my first ever early morning run today, I normally eat as soon as I get up so wasn’t sure I would manage it but I enjoyed it. 10 stone 12lb this morning. Just getting ready for ds’s football match then going to try and get another good chunk of my uni assignment done and cooking a roast pork dinner today.
Enjoy your Sunday everyone x

TheThreeHeadedBeast · 16/05/2021 10:29

I have just found this thread again, so haven't updated for a while. But have been losing weight so three quarters of the way to my goal.

YorkshireLawyer · 16/05/2021 12:23

Can I join please? I’d like to lose (ideally) 2st, from my weight this morning of 12st 0.2lb. I’ve hovered between 11 and 12st for the last couple of years, and really want to get down to at least 10st 7lb or ideally 10st. I picked up my toddler this morning who is just over 2st and realised I couldn’t walk around carrying her all day, yet that’s basically what I’m doing! I’ve got a family wedding at the end of October so that is my target date. I’m not a big sweet eater but struggle with portion control (I’m greedy!) and extra calories through a weekly takeaway and too much wine. Not planning on following any specific diet, just re-acquainting myself with fruit and veg(!), water and exercise without “banning” anything. I’ll still allow myself the odd meal out (aiming for x2 per month) or takeaway, glass of wine (Fridays and Saturdays) and normal family meals - I have three kids, who aren’t fussy eaters, but I’m not going to feed them “diet” food and I don’t have time to cook separately for myself.

So far today I’ve had a two egg omelette with diced peppers, tomatoes and red onion for breakfast, drink a litre of water and run 5k. I’ve been a regular runner for a couple of years but have been injured the last six weeks which hasn’t helped with general lethargy and motivation. Plan is some roast veggies with salad and a small amount of feta and hummus for lunch, then I’ve already got a chicken pie in for dinner tonight so my challenge is to limit the portion of pie and mash and fill up on lots of veg. Excited to get started with a firm target in mind!

KihoBebiluPute · 18/05/2021 05:54

Welcome to the thread @YorkshireLawyer, sounds like you are making an excellent start there.

Welcome back @TheThreeHeadedBeast and well done on making so much progress! Any tips to share fir what has been helpful for you?

Well done @Wejustdontknow - that sounds like a fab sunday, I hope it all went well.

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 18/05/2021 10:18

How did you feel after your run @Wejustdontknow? Hope the uni work is going well!

Well done @TheThreeHeadedBeast, 3/4 of the way is amazing Grin

Welcome @YorkshireLawyer, sounds like you have some great plans there. Is there anything you could do instead of running or will you be back out there soon anyway?

I'm still 12st 11.5lb (avoiding that pesky bathroom tile @KihoBebiluPute!), feeling a bit frustrated as I don't seem to be losing anything despite plenty of exercise and not eating that much. Having put a bit of thought into it, I reckon my issues are:

  • not planning meals properly and grabbing what/ when I can
  • probably not quite enough (or the right type of?) exercise to actually shift the very stubborn pounds.

For the first point I may return to my tried and trusted WW menu planning - I know, I know, but it does give me a framework that helps me - and for the second, I'm not sure! I do a HIIT or weights workout most days and at least 15K steps. I'd like to do more with the DC at the weekend but DP will either moan that he's tired or come with us and then moan that he's tired and can't keep up, which makes me a bit stuck!

TheThreeHeadedBeast · 18/05/2021 13:29

@5w4KihoBebiluPute

Basically calorie counting like mad. But also a mish mash of other diets as well. So I am cutting back on carbs. Because I have really eaten breakfast, I fast between 8pm and 1pm. Also use my fitbit to make sure I keep moving, so 250 steps every hour between 8 and 5. I am allowed treats, so I can have a slice of cake for someone's birthday, then less for dinner.

This also means that I can have the same dinner as everyone else just a smaller portion.

KihoBebiluPute · 19/05/2021 19:31

I haven't been calorie-counting very well recently but I have been running more and keeping fingers crossed that all will be ok. I know it's very easy to overestimate how much extra food one is entitled to due to exercise!

KihoBebiluPute · 21/05/2021 07:36

... and the upshot of not being strict with the food intake, is that despite having done 44km of running in the last week the scales put me 500g/1lb heavier than I was last Friday. Alcohol is definitely my Achilles heel here - will try for a dry week and see how I do.

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 21/05/2021 07:57

Sadly that's why I barely drink any more @KihoBebiluPute that and I can't cope with hangovers as alcohol really seems to stall any weight loss for me. Plus I'm then more tempted to hoover up crisps, chocolate, biscuits etc...!

Well done on the running though. I did W3R1 of C25K on Wednesday, planning to go again today although it's really windy here. I can cope with that, just not the constant pouring rain we've been having Sad

I find the Fitbit really useful for the 'keep moving' reminder @TheThreeHeadedBeast - not that I get to sit down for long with the DC around Confused

Wejustdontknow · 21/05/2021 13:45

Hi all, hope everyone is well xx

30/3 11 stone 6lbs
2/4 11 stone 4lbs -2lbs
9/4 11 stone 2lbs -2lbs
16/4 11 stone 4lbs +2lbs
23/4 11 stone 1lb -3lbs
30/4 10 stone 13lb -2lbs
7/5 11 stone +1lb
14/5 10 stone 13lb -1lb
21/5 10 stone 12lb -1lb

Another 1lb down this week, I frustrate myself knowing it could be more if I stopped eating junk completely but I can’t help myself when it come to chocolate and although I’ve stuck to my calorie allowance this week I’ve had chocolate every day 😬
Uni is now done for the year as I submitted my final assignment on Monday, as it’s only year one it’s just a pass/fail and I already knew I had passed as had scored high enough in previous assignments. I am moving to full time come September as I staggered this year so I only had to do one module at a time so I plan on using the summer to get as much prep done as I can rather than taking it off completely
Have a lovely weekend everyone xx

I miss those first few weeks when the weight comes off quickly. I know it's only water loss etc but it's very motivating to see the scales go down like that.

I've been able to wear an old pair of size 16 jeans - previously felt a bit tight - which made me pleased. They don't look great as they have holes in both knees but they fit again now.

Today is week 5 run 3 for me for c25k - the 20 minute one. I know that the challenge is meant to be mostly mental, and that the previous runs are meant to have prepared me but I don't really believe that I'll be able to do it. 20 minutes running seems such a step up. I'll try to report later to say whether I managed it.
