Is anyone planning on losing weight in 2021, but without following any specific diet?

I’ve tried low carb, plant based, GI diets, sugar free...the list goes on.

But i know that for me, I just need to eat better and move more. I can’t imagine the rest of my life without rice/chocolate etc, and if my weightloss is going to be sustainable, it can’t exclude any food groups.

So my plan is to just eat less unhealthy foods, and eat more veggies.
I’m starting today, but am aware that others may want to wait till new year, that’s fine.

Anyone else want to join me?

I did it! I'm just back from week 5 run 3 (20 minute run). What was extra nice is that Google fit on my phone registered it as a run for the first time. Up till now, it's just been recording my runs as walks.

KihoBebiluPute · 22/05/2021 19:52

Well done @sittinghere on both the loss and the running.

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 23/05/2021 22:21

Congratulations on the weight loss and the running @sittinghere! My plan was to do my next run tomorrow morning once I've dropped the DC at school but the weather forecast is for yet more rain, and I really don't want to slip over! If only we could have a bit of sunshine for a while...

Bad day here; I'm feeling very heavy (literally and figuratively!), day 5 of AF, DS1 was hideously badly behaved this morning and I managed to bash him on the head with a folder Sad it was an accident but I was right on the edge of losing my temper with him at that point and felt horrendously guilty afterwards! Then I cried over my breakfast Confused I just felt like I will never ever lose this weight and lighten up (again, both literally and figuratively) whilst he's such an utter pain a lot of the time. He's 5, he's borderline ASD and he is really hard work most mornings, we never have a chilled out morning because he's bouncing off the walls by 8am. How can I ever make any plans, spread my wings, do anything for myself when all the time I'm just waiting for his next meltdown?

I don't know, and it makes me sad thinking about it, but I will try to be more positive tomorrow...

Good luck with the uni prep @Wejustdontknow Smile

sittinghere · 24/05/2021 07:05

@ClaraTheImpossibleGirl Hoping that you have a better day today

Wejustdontknow · 24/05/2021 09:41

@ClaraTheImpossibleGirl we all have moments like that with our kids, they will have forgotten about it and we will be sat feeling guilty, have you been for a run this morning? I have straight from the school run which felt good.
I am back to day one of AF again today 😟 less then 3 weeks since my last one. I had to change the pill I was on last year as it turns out I should never have had it due to an immediate family members previous medical condition, I have tried a couple of different ones that have me really bad spots, finally found one that doesn’t do that as much but af is every couple of weeks so seriously thinking now of stopping it all together and letting dp take a turn of being in charge of contraceptives to see if that will settle my body into a better rhythm as I’m fed up of it.
Was 10 stone 10lb yesterday morning which made me really happy but yesterday with af starting I ate so much junk food I can’t imagine i won’t have put some back on. Really got to be good this week as we are going to the coast Friday-Monday and I’m sure that will consist of fish and chips/pizzas/meals out and donuts for the whole time we are there

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 24/05/2021 10:15

Thank you @sittinghere and @Wejustdontknow Smile - I did go for a run this morning as (miraculously) it wasn't actually raining, so I thought I might as well! (Obviously it has rained since!!) DS1 managed a whole hour of being ok before losing his rag about something and nothing and having to be removed for some quiet time. Sigh. We're working on the zones of regulation but it's tricky when he seemingly goes from green to red in 0.5 seconds...

That is tough with the pill and AF, Wejustdontknow. I think I'd be with you on having a break from it for a bit! There's nothing else the GP could recommend for you to try - implant/ coil etc? (Not necessarily for a contraceptive - your DP could definitely take a turn - but to help with your cycle!)

Did a quick weigh in today and have stayed the same which I will take after AF week. Hoping to talk to a friend later via Zoom, she works in recruitment and might be able to give me some job hunting tips. It would be lovely to see her but she's cancelled our last six meet ups so I'm not holding my breath!!

sittinghere · 24/05/2021 20:50

@ClaraTheImpossibleGirl Congratulations on your run today. I missed mine - still feeling achey from Saturday. I'm hoping I'll go tomorrow. Writing it down here makes it more likely.

@Wejustdontknow I'm trying to be good this week too as we're going away for half term. I won't have scales there, and I'm sure to eat more food than normal. At one point I thought I was on track to be under 12 stone before my holiday but that's not going to happen now - I've remained pretty much the same weight for about 3 weeks.

Wejustdontknow · 25/05/2021 09:49

I’ve smashed out another run this morning straight after the school run, I am sticking with week one of the couch to 5k as otherwise I seem to get shin splints but I am definitely improving as I seem to get further and further each time.
Try not to dwell on the weight @sittinghere I have gone up/down/stayed the same some weeks as well but even when your not losing weight if your running frequently and eating well a lot of the time you will still be getting healthier and it will get you where you want eventually, plus you could be getting more muscle from the running and that is heavier than fat.
I’m 10 stone 12lb this morning which is frustrating as I was 10 stone 10lb on Sunday 🤷🏻‍♀️ Would love to be 10 stone 9lb for Friday but don’t think it will happen 😬

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 25/05/2021 10:33

Well done on your run @Wejustdontknow! I definitely find it easier to go straight after dropping the DC at school, stops me having to think about it too much Grin mind you it means a 20 minute walk first with just my running stuff and a fleece on. Which you'd think would be ok at the end of May, but at the moment...!

I'm planning to run again tomorrow - came home and did a longer HIIT workout today instead and now am nearly dead

I have a wedding to attend in 8 weeks @sittinghere (well, if Boris is still allowing 30+ guests by then!) and want to be 12st by then. 12lb to go though so it will be tight Confused

Wejustdontknow · 26/05/2021 11:53

Well I’ve had a shocker of a morning at work thanks to a lie the night manager told... just wait until I see him tomorrow morning and give him a piece of my mind. Come home and weighed myself to find I’m at 11 stone 😬 I know weight fluctuates through the week but I don’t want to be seeing 11’s again. I’m not going to dwell on it though as no doubt I will put on whilst away this weekend so I will just enjoy my time a way and then hit the dirt hard when I return

Wejustdontknow · 26/05/2021 11:54

Diet hard not dirt

Wejustdontknow · 26/05/2021 18:07

Just to update, when not wearing my work clothes my weight is 10 stone 11lb 🤦🏼‍♀️

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 27/05/2021 10:07

Blimey @Wejustdontknow, what do you wear for work?! Grin hope your conversation with the night manager was productive!

I did another run today - W4R1 of C25K - arrived home looking like a tomato Confused I did another HIIT class yesterday and a short weights workout early this morning but really, my metabolism needs a serious kick to do anything, I reckon. Meal planning is on the agenda for later, to make sure I have enough to feed the ravenous beasts DC over half term.

Are you still running too @sittinghere?

sittinghere · 28/05/2021 06:58

9 April 12 st 10 (heaviest ever)
16 April 12 st 8
23 April 12 st 6.5
30 April 12 st 6
7 May 12 st 3.5
14 May 12 st 3.5
21 May 12 st 2
28 May 12 st 2

So, maintain again. I hope I do better in June
I won't be weighing in next week as we're away. I'm going to try not to eat far too much but we will be by the coast and there might be chips and donuts. It will be less sedentary than a desk job though, so I'm hoping it balances out.

@ClaraTheImpossibleGirl yes, I'm still running - just done wk 6 r2. I don't do much else apart from school drop off in the morning, which is 50 min brisk walk (school.isnt that far but I walk with one child first so she has company part of the way to secondary, then come home and walk with other two to primary). I probably need to add something like yoga.

KihoBebiluPute · 28/05/2021 07:03

I've not been posting for a little while but it is still being very helpful to have this thread in my "threads I'm on" list to remind me to keep myself accountable and try to keep on track. Which I have not been doing very well at generally but I gave myself a bit of a talking-to earlier this week and have had a better couple of days since.

I think I need to properly plan and budget for a specific amount of snacks in my daily food because if they are unplanned I graze and eat far too much. I am not good at moderation. However the last 2 days I set a timer to ping an alarm at the exact half way point between lunch and supper and allowed myself 200cals of snacks at that point but not before or after, and that seems to have worked.

Friday weigh-in:
8th Jan 77.6kg (12st 3lb)
15th Jan 76.5kg (12st ½lb)
22nd Jan 76.5kg (12st ½lb)
29th Jan 76.2kg (12st 0lb)
5th Feb 75.1kg (11st 11½lb)
12th Feb 74.9kg (11st 11lb)
19th Feb 74.5kg (11st 10¼lb)
26th Feb 73.6kg (11st 8¼lb)
5th Mar 73.3kg (11st 7½lb)
12th Mar 74.4kg (11st 10lb)
19th Mar 73.0kg (11st 7lb)
26th Mar 72.1kg (11st 5lb)
2nd Apr 72.3kg (11st 5½lb)
9th Apr 72.2kg (11st 5¼lb)
16th Apr 72.2kg (11st 5¼lb)
23rd Apr 71.5kg (11st 3½lb)
30th Apr 70.8kg (11st 2lb)
7th May 70.8kg (11st 2lb)
14th May 70.0kg (11st ¼lb)
21st May 70.5kg (11st 1½lb)
28th May 69.7kg (10st 13¾lb)

So happy stoneiversary to me! I am very excited to be under 11st which hasn't been the case since I was a teenager. I am also wearing size 12 jeans comfortably now which is lovely.

Exercise tally ran 44.9km in last 7 days.

I can't do a weigh-in next Friday as I will be glamping in the middle of nowhere with no access to scales. There will also be a lot of high-calorie temptations and a takeaway chippy as the backup plan if we can't manage to cook edible meals over a fire pit so I suspect I will be back up over the 11st mark again, but will work hard to counteract all that once I am home.

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 28/05/2021 10:07

@sittinghere well done on your running!! I can only dream of week 6! I walk the DC to school as well - it's about 20 minutes there, 10 minutes back! - but there are at least three parents (just in their class) that drive, and they live closer than us Confused it's not on their way to work either as they turn round and drive back... the school have been doing a big push on getting kids to walk/ scoot/ cycle to school as well! Enjoy your trip to the coast Smile

Congratulations on your stoneiversary @KihoBebiluPute!! And the size 12 jeans - I look at mine occasionally, but I've a fair way to go... have to say I don't really suit jeggings (which I mainly wear at the moment) but can't find any decent skinny flare/ bootcut ones either, so I'm a bit stuck. And have a great time glamping - hopefully you'll find some decent/ easy things to cook over the firepit!

Back to 12st 10lb for me today, yippee!! Think it's taken me three weeks to chip away at the same 2lb that I'd already lost but put back on over AF week Sad - when I've lost another 2lb that'll be 10% of my body weight gone from my starting weight, but do you think anyone has noticed?! Nope. I mean I do have a very long fair way to go yet but I do look a bit less like Humpty Dumpty...!

sittinghere · 28/05/2021 15:30

Congratulations @KihoBebiluPute for getting under that 11 stone mark and the size 12s. I'm really looking forward to seeing my weight start with an 11 one day!

@ClaraTheImpossibleGirl you're on week 4 so only a couple of weeks behind me. I doubt I'll run next week when I'm away so I'm planning to go back to either week 5 or the beginning of week 6 when I get back. We might end up on the same week. I didn't look too tomato-like at the end of the runs in the first few weeks but now I come home bright red.

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 30/05/2021 22:27

I don't think I'll be able to run this week either @sittinghere, it's much easier when I just tag it on to the school drop off and run home instead of walking! I do have a few child free hours over half term but will probably have to spend those cleaning Confused

Feeling frustrated at the moment as DP keeps telling me he wants to get fit, but is so incredibly lazy that I have no idea how he intends to achieve this... he's always been big (tall and heavy) since I've known him but recently he's put on even more weight, I'd estimate he's at 23 stone now. He eats a bit more than he should - snacks, hoovers up leftovers, can't leave anything on his plate etc - but I think even that would be cancelled out if he did some exercise. He keeps saying he'll go back to the gym but never does, if I suggest a long walk with the DC he doesn't want to do it... I have no idea how to help! It's all the more frustrating when I'm doing my best to get fit myself and we could work towards it together...

Wejustdontknow · 01/06/2021 11:57

Morning all, well done on the weight loss 😀
I have just got back from our weekend away, being coeliac my only option takeaway wise was fish and chips so I have basically eaten that for 3 days. Weighed in this morning at 10stone 13lb so happy to have stayed under 11 stone and back on it. I have started the morning with a healthy breakfast and a hiit workout, not sure if I will get chance to run with it being half term but I am having chicken salad for lunch and roasting a gammon for tea which I will have a slice or two of with plenty of veg so I’m feeling good. I am going to try and stay under my calorie allowance rather than adding in extra snacks just because I can to hopefully lose a little quicker. I would like to be around the 10stone mark by the end of July hopefully so I just have to work on maintaining over the summer holidays

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 01/06/2021 22:16

Mmmm fish and chips @Wejustdontknow Grin

I'm still doing a HIIT workout most days, like you I probably won't get to run over half term but will be back to it next week. I may start doing the Shred again if I can face it as desperate measures may be needed to keep to my weight loss schedule...

Wejustdontknow · 02/06/2021 09:41

The fish and chips were very good 😃
I don’t think I will be doing anything today as my body is protesting after yesterday’s exercises, my leg muscles are screaming when I move 🤣

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 02/06/2021 13:32

We had fish & chips over the bank holiday weekend too - DP's choice. They were... average Sad

Ouch at the leg muscles @Wejustdontknow! The DC went to a sports activity course this morning so I could get on with watching the Hay festival some housework. They arrived home bright pink and tired out, result! Grin

Wejustdontknow · 04/06/2021 19:17

Haven’t had chance to weigh yet today but after a good start to the week I have totally fell off plan the last couple of days. I may have demolished a whole packet of triple chocolate cookies today 😆
Just finishing off the day with Mac and cheese with a side of fries and then I have two bags of new chocolates I couldn’t resist buying then I will reset and start again.
Good luck to anyone else weighing, hope the scales tip in your favour x

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 04/06/2021 21:15

It was a grumpy day for me today @Wejustdontknow - hopped on the scales thinking I've done plenty of exercise and not eaten much, only to find that apparently I have put 2lb on. Pah! I may yet join you in a pack of cookies, if mine can have a side order of ice cream...

Seriously, I don't know what more to do; I'm doing at least 12K steps every day and a short workout, not eating huge amounts, am looking thinner (bizarrely FIL commented on it today - no-one else has noticed!) but I just cannot shift the actual pounds. Very frustrating!

Wejustdontknow · 05/06/2021 09:07

Sorry to hear that @ClaraTheImpossibleGirl it could be muscle if your doing lots of exercise, especially if you feel thinner 🤷🏻‍♀️
I have given up for the weekend and will start a fresh Monday. I’m at work and have just eaten a 3 pack of jelly and custard pots and have another packet of cookies in front of me 😆 I really must try harder to stop falling off this diet wagon
