Is anyone planning on losing weight in 2021, but without following any specific diet?

I’ve tried low carb, plant based, GI diets, sugar free...the list goes on.

But i know that for me, I just need to eat better and move more. I can’t imagine the rest of my life without rice/chocolate etc, and if my weightloss is going to be sustainable, it can’t exclude any food groups.

So my plan is to just eat less unhealthy foods, and eat more veggies.
I’m starting today, but am aware that others may want to wait till new year, that’s fine.

Anyone else want to join me?

Well done on the loss @ClaraTheImpossibleGirl, that's wonderful!

AF arrived yesterday evening, and I haven't been sleeping well this week. I'm feeling very tired and slow today. Plan is to just go with it today, stay comfy, don't try to do too much and tomorrow I should be more energetic.

Wejustdontknow · 21/04/2021 11:54

11 stone 1lb today 🙂 things are going my way this week which feels good.
On the down side I am pretty sure I have developed shin splints from taking up running as they are feeling very tender and sore so I’m going to have a rest day today and see if it helps.
@CosyAcorn I always feel so sluggish when af arrived so enjoy your day and relax x

Wejustdontknow · 21/04/2021 12:32

Oh and after work I stood looking at the buns/biscuits but decided they weren’t worth the calories and bought some strawberries and nice low calorie yogurt... that’s definitely a first

KihoBebiluPute · 23/04/2021 07:20

@Wejustdontknow well done that is brilliant both on the loss and on resisting the biscuits. Rest days are really important yes, but also make sure you are doing enough stretching before and after each run. Each individual muscle in your legs needs to be given a good long stretch for ideally ~20sec.

Friday weigh in:
8th Jan 77.6kg (12st 3lb)
15th Jan 76.5kg (12st 0.5lb)
22nd Jan 76.5kg (12st 0.5lb)
29th Jan 76.2kg (12st 0lb)
5th Feb 75.1kg (11st 11.5lb)
12th Feb 74.9kg (11st 11lb)
19th Feb 74.5kg (11st 10.25lb)
26th Feb 73.6kg (11st 8.25lb)
5th Mar 73.3kg (11st 7.5lb)
12th Mar 74.4kg (11st 10lb)
19th Mar 73.0kg (11st 7lb)
26th Mar 72.1kg (11st 5lb)
2nd Apr 72.3kg (11st 5.5lb)
9th Apr 72.2kg (11st 5.25lb)
16th Apr 72.2kg (11st 5.25lb)
23rd Apr 71.5kg (11st 3.5lb)

Really happy with that after basically a month stagnating with no loss. Just not having all that cake and chocolate and hot cross buns around the house has made it a lot easier to stick to the plan. We did have a meal out at a pub on Wednesday which made the scales wobble up a bit but it came back down after a good day yesterday.

Exercise a bit lighter than usual. I had my first vaccine and wasn't feeling great for a couple of days. Total running 24km, walking 29km.

Wishing everyone on the thread a happy Friday!

2lb loss this week, 1 stone 5lbs lost overall. All week my scales have stubbornly held on to 9st12 and then this morning they finally dropped! I would really like to keep momentum this time. I spent nearly all of April at the same weight and it is really frustrating. Going to keep on pushing ahead to try and see 9st9!

Well done @KihoBebiluPute! That's got to feel good!

Happy Friday!

KihoBebiluPute · 23/04/2021 09:45

Good work @CosyAcorn! What's your target? I would be stopping by now if I was your weight but I might be taller?

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 23/04/2021 11:09

Well done @KihoBebiluPute and @CosyAcorn on your weight losses!! And well done to @Wejustdontknow on avoiding the Cake - any news from your sister yet?

(On a side note Kiho I am dreading my first vaccine as so many friends have been ill after having it, and being ill whilst looking after the DC is a nightmare!! I mean I will have it, but I haven't been invited for one yet anyway, which I'm kind of glad about...!)

Haven't weighed myself today as AF has started and no doubt it would only depress me. I wasn't sure I could take it on top of another DS1 meltdown this morning Sad

Wejustdontknow · 23/04/2021 11:26

@ClaraTheImpossibleGirl yes baby arrived yesterday evening, a baby boy and both mum and baby are doing very well. I have my niece with me until they are home from hospital and settled which should be this afternoon. Thank you for asking.
Well done to everyone on their weight loss, I haven’t weighed yet, my niece is 4 and I forgot how exhausting little kids are, we haven’t stopped all day 🥱 but I will do it once she has gone back home x

Wejustdontknow · 23/04/2021 11:29

I was ill with flu like symptoms for a couple of days after my first vaccine, I have my second next Wednesday and I. Hoping it might be a little easier this time, I actually caught covid and tested positive 9 days after my first vaccine so maybe I have plenty of antibodies right now and won’t get as much of a reaction 🤞

LeftyLou · 23/04/2021 12:00

Happy friday everyone Smile

Congratulations on your new family member @Wejustdontknow Flowers hope mummy and baby are doing well. Is your niece excited about being a big sister?

@CosyAcorn, I agree with the frustration when the scales do not seem to budge. Do you take your measurements too? Just when the scales don't move you could still be losing inches. You should be very proud of your achievement.

Everybody is doing so great really helps keep me motivated. Really glad I joined the group!

My current stats:

13th April = 13 stone 6.2
16th April = 13 stone 6.2
23rd April = 13 stone 5.5 (0.7 lbs loss)

LeftyLou · 23/04/2021 12:03

Also the very friendly atmosphere!

KihoBebiluPute · 23/04/2021 17:16

Well done @LeftyLou! Congratulations on your new nephew @Wejustdontknow.

@ClaraTheImpossibleGirl although I felt rough, I am sure it was nothing compared to what it would be like to get a bad dose of the actual virus, and it was more the kind of "I don't fancy a run, I am going to sit on the sofa with the DC and eat popcorn" kind of thing rather than "I must take to my bed for I am definitely ill" kind of thing. Don't worry too much about it - DH was totally fine with no side-effects at all so you might even get lucky.

Wejustdontknow · 24/04/2021 11:45

Just a quick post while I’m at work, 11 stone 1lb when I weighed yesterday, that’s 3lb down from last week 😃

CosyAcorn · 24/04/2021 22:25

Well done @Wejustdontknow and @LeftyLou!

I don't have a fixed target weight, I'm around 5st3, my peak skinny weight at age 19/20 was around 8st3 but I'm 33 now and I've had a kid so I think I should aim for 9st. But I'll see how I go. I haven't been taking measurements but maybe I should. I do feel pretty good at this weight but my boobs are still heavy and sometimes my jeans feel tight. Im trying hard to love my body no matter the weight, not always easy but life is short and I don't want to wait to enjoy it, if you see what I mean.

Wejustdontknow · 26/04/2021 09:09

Morning all 🙂 11 stone exactly this morning, I agree about not having a set weight @CosyAcorn I have worked out that to have a BMI of 22 which is bang in the middle of a healthy weight I need to be 9 stone 6lbs so I have that in my mind but i don’t think I’ve been that weight since my early 20’s before kids so if I get to a weight I feel happy and comfortable with but it’s higher I will be happy to then just work on maintaining x

CosyAcorn · 26/04/2021 10:30

You're on a roll @Wejustdontknow!

I've also dropped 1lb this morning. Did another early morning walk with my Dad yesterday. Set off at half six and saw lots of lambs in the fields, was a lovely walk.

We're on steak tonight so I'm going to try and be very restrained diet wise today.

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 26/04/2021 11:12

Congratulations on your new nephew @Wejustdontknow and well done on the weight loss!!

Glad the scales are still going downwards for you too @LeftyLou. I reckon that I could just about lose another stone by the time I'm going to the wedding (assuming guests are still allowed by then!) which would take me to 12 stone... I'd still have 1.5stone to lose but better than nothing I should have started a long time ago

What a lovely walk @CosyAcorn! DP went to the pub on Saturday afternoon and was very hungover yesterday, I took great pleasure in making him go outside Grin I pointed out that small DC have no sympathy for hangovers and still require entertaining/ looking after, so we'd better take them out in the sunshine and wear them out a bit... this is why I hardly drink any more, I couldn't cope with the DTs and a hangover!

My first COVID jab is now booked @KihoBebiluPute, I agree that I'd far rather have the jab than the virus! (DP & I think we did have it last March before tests were available - we both felt very rough for a few days but thankfully not bad enough to require a doctor - although I did lose my sense of taste and smell for months afterwards!). Just hoping the side effects aren't too bad/ immediate as I could only get a Thursday appointment, I'd far rather have had a Friday one in case I'm ill the next day Shock

Oh, stayed the same this week but I'm ok with that during AF week, means I'll lose double next week right?! Hmm

Wejustdontknow · 27/04/2021 17:01

Not the best day today, still weighing in at 11 stone but no exercise as my knee is hurting. I have been putting off seeing a doctor but think I will probably will have to. It started being a bit painful to bend my left knee around a month ago and it has got slightly worse as time has gone on so needs looking at.
I ate one of the kids choc orange buttons packets whilst they were at school and have gone over my calorie allowance for today. I have been feeling very hungry recently and have been snacking much more even though most of the snacks are healthy so I’m going to try changing things up tomorrow and have more or bigger portions for my lunch/tea and see if I can cut out the snacking. My downfall is around 2:30 and then around 8:30 once the kids have gone to bed so I am going to really try hard to not eat at those times as most of the time it’s just habit.
I have my second covid jab tomorrow afternoon and really hoping it doesn’t make me feel ill as I really can’t take any time off work this week and I have a uni assignment I am working on and don’t want to fall behind as it’s the final one for this year and quite a large assignment.
Wishing everyone a lovely week and positive weight loss thoughts 🙂

LeftyLou · 28/04/2021 13:59

Hope everyone is having a good week so far. I have only been on one walk this week and only exercise I have done, so I am planning on going on a nice long walk over the Bank Holiday weekend. I have the whole 4 days off so there shall be no excuse.

I hope you can get your knee back to healthy @Wejustdontknow. Also hope your second jab goes well. Its great to see many people getting them now. We are hopefully on our way out of this!

@ClaraTheImpossibleGirl, thankyou Smile I am pushing my way through. It seems to be coming of slowly, I would like 2 lbs off but I would be happy with 1. I do know slow and steady is more maintainable and that is what I should think of.

Wejustdontknow · 28/04/2021 18:39

So far so good after the jab, I had it at 12:15 this afternoon and feel fine so far 🤞
I haven’t weighed myself today as have been so busy but I have stuck to my new plan of breakfast/dinner/tea with only a snack on my work break and have finished the day with just under 300 calories to spare, I have just had a massive plate of scampi, sweet potato fries and salad and don’t plan on eating anything else tonight now.
Four days off for the bank holiday sounds wonderful @LeftyLou I hope you get some interesting walks during your time off xx

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 28/04/2021 21:38

I try to tell myself 'slow and steady' too @LeftyLou; I have to remind myself that I didn't get fat straight away and I won't get thin straight away either! But it is frustrating Confused

Hope you are still feeling well @Wejustdontknow. I'm trying to snack less as well; I haven't actually been very hungry this week, but I have eaten a fair amount of rubbish Blush, might actually go back to my WW plan next week to remind myself to eat more fruit and veggies!!

Wejustdontknow · 29/04/2021 15:23

I seem to have survived this jab with just an achy arm which is lucky, still 11 stone today. Was hoping for maybe a bit more off but still on my 1lb a week target if it stays the same tomorrow.
No exercise for me this week, my knee is really playing up, so much that I’m going to try and see a doctor on my day off next week. It’s not too bad when I’m just walking around but if I need to bend down (which I do constantly at work) or go up or down stairs the pain is really bad so I think it’s time to get it looked at and see if anything can be done to help it heal x

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 29/04/2021 21:37

That's lucky @Wejustdontknow (about your arm, not your knee!) - most people I know have had a day or two of 'flu' after the jab. Will you be able to get a GP appointment next week? I haven't needed to have one in person for a while, my last was done over the phone, which was much easier.

I'm having a 'I'm so fed up being fat' time; I'm bored at home, want to get a job but really lack confidence after 5 years out of the workplace and having put on weight. DP has been off work unexpectedly for the last couple of days which is very annoying offputting when I want to do a home workout and he's around fussing and tutting! I'll keep job hunting but blimey, it's dull...

KihoBebiluPute · 30/04/2021 06:45

Good morning all.

Friday weigh in:
8th Jan 77.6kg (12st 3lb)
15th Jan 76.5kg (12st 0.5lb)
22nd Jan 76.5kg (12st 0.5lb)
29th Jan 76.2kg (12st 0lb)
5th Feb 75.1kg (11st 11.5lb)
12th Feb 74.9kg (11st 11lb)
19th Feb 74.5kg (11st 10.25lb)
26th Feb 73.6kg (11st 8.25lb)
5th Mar 73.3kg (11st 7.5lb)
12th Mar 74.4kg (11st 10lb)
19th Mar 73.0kg (11st 7lb)
26th Mar 72.1kg (11st 5lb)
2nd Apr 72.3kg (11st 5.5lb)
9th Apr 72.2kg (11st 5.25lb)
16th Apr 72.2kg (11st 5.25lb)
23rd Apr 71.5kg (11st 3.5lb)
30th Apr 70.8kg (11st 2lb)

1.5lb lost this week and now lost just over a stone since Christmas. Only 2lb to go before my "stoneiversary" takes me under 11st which will feel brilliant. The other day I finally managed to fit into some size 12 jeans which I bought ages ago as "aspirational" when I was still wearing size 16 but knew I would get myself down to 12 some day. I last tried them on a couple of months ago and although I was able to do up the button and zip, the zip immediately burst apart and needed to be replaced. They aren't quite comfortable to wear yet, I need to lose a few more lbs before I choose to reach for them rather than the size 14s in general, but it is lovely to have them as an option. BMI now 26 so not long to go before I am officially not in the "overweight" category on BMI.

Exercise this week:
Running - only 18km
Walking - 20km
Cycling - 27km

We have another fairly indulgent weekend planned with a special "restaurant at home" meal on Saturday, a barbecue on Sunday and a day out at a local outdoor attraction on Monday so I rather suspect I will be lucky to just maintain this weight come next Friday as I will need to be really good on Tue/Wed/Thu just to average out all that! Will try to make sure I fit in some good long runs to help balance things.

Not really been trying this week. I'm juggling four assignments that have to be in before next Friday and don't really have the head room for anything else this week. I've submitted one and have drafts done for two more. Once I get past next Friday I'll get back on it.
