Is anyone planning on losing weight in 2021, but without following any specific diet?

I’ve tried low carb, plant based, GI diets, sugar free...the list goes on.

But i know that for me, I just need to eat better and move more. I can’t imagine the rest of my life without rice/chocolate etc, and if my weightloss is going to be sustainable, it can’t exclude any food groups.

So my plan is to just eat less unhealthy foods, and eat more veggies.
I’m starting today, but am aware that others may want to wait till new year, that’s fine.

Anyone else want to join me?

Well, I'd be a mess waking up at 4am! The walk was good but I was tired afterwards.

I'm back to 9st12 this morning, so recovering from the Easter blip. Plan today is to continue decorating- it's just endless sanding and wall prep at the moment.

Should probably also get DD out of the house at some point today, she was inside all of yesterday and was a bit wired by the evening. Will probably take her put on her bike this afternoon.

Wejustdontknow · 11/04/2021 18:02

Hope you managed to get out for a while and the weather was ok, it’s bitterly cold here and we have had snow flurries a few times. I went for a run this morning and couldn’t help but weigh myself, 11 stone 1 3/4lbs so I’m rewarding myself with a Pizza Hut 😆 being coeliac I can’t eat many takeaways so hardly ever have them but I’m treating myself as Pizza Hut offer a gluten free base 🙂 it will take me 13 calories over my daily allowance it that’s a price I’m willing to pay x

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 11/04/2021 22:23

Freezing here too! Sunny but bitterly cold. DS2 is full of snot so I've actually been trying to keep him indoors a bit more - usually I'm the opposite and try to get the DC outside as much as I can! - but then they bounce off the walls by the end of the day. It's a tricky balancing act...

It's been a bad week in terms of food as I'm just so exhausted from having the DC 24/7 Sad; I'm steeling myself to hop on the scales tomorrow morning. Could it be that a week of pizza/ chips/ McDonalds is not great for weight loss? It's a poser Hmm

CosyAcorn · 12/04/2021 08:00

Yup, in the end it was too cold here for me to bother dragging DD out, so another day indoors.

But hurray! School is back on today! Hope this eases your day too @ClaraTheImpossibleGirl. I also struggle in the holidays.

I didn't sleep much last night, stayed up to finish my book and then couldn't fall asleep because I was thinking of the book. 🙄

Plan today is to blitz housework whilst also listening to my online lectures and just keep my body moving. Really don't want to go running when it is frosty and I'm sleepy, just know I'd fall over!

Wejustdontknow · 12/04/2021 13:03

It’s quite nice here today, my kids are just starting their second week of school holidays. My brother has opened a shop today so we got up and went on the bus into town to go see it, kids had a Greggs sausage roll and doughnut whilst we were out and I have waited to have some soup when I got home. Back out in an hour for ds1’s orthodontist appointment. I have a uni assignment due Thursday that I have hardly done anything on yet so the next couple of days will mostly be spent at my desk getting that done. I’ve just had a delivery of some new work out clothes but again can only go out for a run after 5:30pm when dp gets home from work so will see what the weather is like and try and go at least a couple of times this week

CosyAcorn · 13/04/2021 07:34

Well done on resisting the Greggs! Sausage rolls and doughnuts are my weakness!

Was doing well yesterday until DD offered to share a packet of mini eggs with me. I guess chocolate is my weakness too! Grin

Wejustdontknow · 13/04/2021 21:49

Absolutely terrible day for me today, I have eaten so much junk food and gone way over my calorie allowance, no exercise all week so not looking forward to Friday. I will try and eat healthier tomorrow and will be back on the running once the kids are back to school

KihoBebiluPute · 13/04/2021 22:12

Since Friday I have run 34km and had 3 reasonably ok days for eating. Today we went out to a pub for dinner and I have eaten so much I feel sick. No idea what the scales will say on next Friday!

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 14/04/2021 14:15

@KihoBebiluPute I'm in awe of your running and jealous of your pub trip Grin (although not quite so much of the feeling sick!!)

Hope you are doing better today @Wejustdontknow and that things go ok until the DC are back at school. Mine are still small and I do find it hard to have to 'entertain' them as well as spending time cooking, cleaning not that I do enough of it and cleaning up the more or less constant mess.

I love a Greggs yum yum @CosyAcorn. And yes, mini eggs too. Trying to ignore the DC's leftover Easter chocolate still. Sigh...

Two lovely peaceful days here as the DC are back at school, but just as well as I've felt rotten since Monday. Not sure if I've been overdoing it with the exercise, eaten too much junk food very probably and/ or another infection - I have another ingrown hair which has turned into a big sore lump - but I've been wiped out for a couple of days, really tired. I know that I could be using my time profitably to meal plan/ get the house straight/ more exercise but I keep needing a sit down! Weigh in is not going to be a pretty sight Confused

Wejustdontknow · 14/04/2021 15:19

I weighed myself this morning and was up to 11 stone 3 1/2lb, it’s a lb increase from Friday but if I can end the week on that I will take it to be honest. I need to come up with a good school holiday plan before the summer holidays or I will never lose weight 😬
I have spent most of the past couple of days doing uni work so hardly any movement 😆
I hope you feel better soon @ClaraTheImpossibleGirl

CosyAcorn · 15/04/2021 07:31

Bad week for me too friends. Seem to start well each day and then by lunch time I'm indulging again. I'm frustrating myself. But at least we are here, checking in with each other. It helps knowing that there are others facing similar things.

Going for a long walk with a friend today and I'm hoping the time spent outside will do me good.

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 15/04/2021 09:05

@Wejustdontknow I think my plan for school holidays is to give the DC to whatever holiday club will take them Grin

It's hard when you fall into a pattern @CosyAcorn - I think my best/ easiest weight loss times are when I haven't put much thought into it other than "this is what I do/ don't do" TBH. For example: every day I get up, do a workout, eat porridge, take DC for a walk to the park, have stir fry for lunch, take DC out again (yes, it's much like having dogs), make something light for dinner, go to bed after the complete PITA that is DC's bedtime and subsequent tidying up. Yes, it's boring but it just didn't require much effort. I'll have to see if I can come up with a new routine...

(If you enjoy cooking it's probably a bit easier, but I really have to force myself to do it, I'm trying to expand my range of meals but don't find it particularly exciting!)

I'm already exhausted after the utter grind of listening to DS1 whinge, whine and meltdown his way to school. ASD is no fun Sad

LeftyLou · 15/04/2021 13:11

Hi everyone, I am new on here but wondered if I could join?

I love the idea of having no specific diet to follow, as I have tried and failed at many myself.

I need to lose 4 to 5 stones realistically, but am going to set myself mini goals to make it a little easier. The first one been 12lbs off by 28th May.

I have a family wedding in July (fingers crossed) and a holiday to Whitby in October (fingers crossed) so I will have these at the forefront of my mind to help keep me motivated.

My starting weight

Height: 5'1
Weight: 13 stone 6.2

Hope everyone is having a lovely day Smile

1lb loss this week, 1 stone 3lbs lost overall

You're right @ClaraTheImpossibleGirl, I need to get back into my simple routine that was working well, especially need to stick with running or some form of exercise everyday. That makes such a huge difference to me.

Welcome @LeftyLou! Glad to have you with us. I think having special events on the horizon is a great motivator to keep on going. I really can't wait to go to a wedding again, getting dressed up and dancing to cheesy happy music!

KihoBebiluPute · 16/04/2021 09:09

Friday weigh-in:
8th Jan 77.6kg (12st 3lb)
15th Jan 76.5kg (12st 0.5lb)
22nd Jan 76.5kg (12st 0.5lb)
29th Jan 76.2kg (12st 0lb)
5th Feb 75.1kg (11st 11.5lb)
12th Feb 74.9kg (11st 11lb)
19th Feb 74.5kg (11st 10.25lb)
26th Feb 73.6kg (11st 8.25lb)
5th Mar 73.3kg (11st 7.5lb)
12th Mar 74.4kg (11st 10lb)
19th Mar 73.0kg (11st 7lb)
26th Mar 72.1kg (11st 5lb)
2nd Apr 72.3kg (11st 5.5lb)
9th Apr 72.2kg (11st 5.25lb)
16th Apr 72.2kg (11st 5.25lb)

No overall change this week. I know I could be doing better with the eating. The special treats are happening too frequently and that's why I haven't had much in the way of losses for a while. If it wasn't for the running I would definitely be gaining weight and so I feel I am rolling the dice on a daily basis because I could get an injury that stops me running at any point.

Exercise this week - runs totalling 45km. Walks totalling 19km.

Welcome to the thread @LeftyLou - I agree that mini goals are great. Good luck!

Wejustdontknow · 16/04/2021 11:18

Welcome to the thread @LeftyLou I am new too and it’s been a great support the last couple of weeks and everyone is very friendly and supportive.

Weigh in’s so far:
29/03 11 stone 6lbs
2/04 11 stone 4 3/4lbs
9/04 11 stone 2 1/2lbs
16/04 11 stone 4 1/4lbs

That’s an increase of 1 3/4lbs in the past week which isn’t surprising when I have eaten takeaways, Easter eggs and whole bars of chocolate plus I have had the week off work and done no exercise.
@KihoBebiluPute I am the same with the treats, I allow myself a curly wurly and small bag of popcorn each evening which is fine when I’m exercising but if I don’t I think it would be hard to lose any weight.
We are having the bbq we postponed last weekend because of the weather this Sunday. It’s been mil and dp’s birthday very recently and it is ds’s on Wednesday so it’s a triple celebration. I’m not going to calorie count that day just enjoy the first lot of company we will have had in over a year and eat what I want but from Monday I am going to have to be much stricter and make sure I’m running at least 3 times a week if not more
Good luck everyone x

LeftyLou · 16/04/2021 14:52

Thankyou for the warm welcomes Smile

I have weighed myself and it is a maintain. That was from Tuesday this week.

I do love a good wedding @CosyAcorn. It was supposed to happen last year. I was a couple of stones lighter then too, but it is so easy to get into comfortable habits. Still onwards and upwards as they say Grin

I hope you enjoy your run @KihoBebiluPute. I am off for a walk now. Trying to get my exercise up. I work at a desk all day so any kind of movement is good.

Enjoy your BBQ @Wejustdontknow Smile I agree with no calorie counting for that.

I love the idea of a Friday weigh in too.

Hope everyone has a lovely weekend.

CosyAcorn · 17/04/2021 17:12

Afternoon all, I've had a lovely day so far. My Dad picked me up at 7am for a 5 mile walk up in the hills. Saw lambs, lapwings and a hare.

Then had friends round in the garden for a birthday lunch for DH. We chatted all afternoon and made plans to go camping together this summer.

Feel that happy sort of tired where you've been outside all day and laughed lots and lots.

Just want to settle down with a bath and a book now!

Wejustdontknow · 18/04/2021 08:55

That sounds like a wonderful day @CosyAcorn I do think the one good thing to come from this pandemic is the hot people seem to get from doing simple things with others 🙂 what book are you reading?
I’m back to football sundays today with my son playing at 10am and I can’t wait to stand and cheer him on again

CosyAcorn · 18/04/2021 17:49

@Wejustdontknow I'm reading The Salt Path, about a married couple who in the space of a week lose their home and business, and then the husband is diagnosed with a terminal illness. Not knowing what to do they start hiking and wild camping along the coast of Cornwall. It's a true story of their journey. Really beautiful and uplifting.

Hope your son's football went well!

I went for a run this morning and have felt more in control of eating so far today. Really want to get back on track this week.

Wejustdontknow · 19/04/2021 09:32

Sounds like a good book, I will keep it in mind for if I get some spare time.
Football was wonderful, weather was glorious and they won 10-7 🙂
I am feeling very positive this morning, kids are at school so I have come home and got my cleaning done, I’m just about to head out for a run then my sister is coming to drop some birthday cards off then I have some uni work to do which I might do in the garden 🙂
11 stone 4 this morning so 2lbs down from my initial starting weight and hoping for a couple of lb off by Friday x

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 19/04/2021 11:02

@CosyAcorn sounds like you've had a wonderful weekend! I like the idea of hiking and wild camping but don't think it's anything I could actually do IRL Grin maybe one of those long walks where you can arrange for your stuff to be shuttled between B&Bs whilst you just walk...

Well done on a productive morning and a loss @Wejustdontknow. The cleaning awaits me soon Confused

I have a July wedding to aim for too @LeftyLou - not mine! A friend's postponed from last summer. However it all depends on whether the numbers limit is relaxed by then as planned, as she has a large family who'd take up all the 30 places currently allowed... fingers crossed.

@KihoBebiluPute your step count must be awesome!! I like the 'friends' function on Fitbit as it does motivate me to move more. I had a cheaper pedometer for a while which was fine, but missed the competitive side, so bit the bullet and bought a (cheap) Fitbit again.

2lb off for me today but that's over two weeks. However, it does mean that I am officially in the 12st bracket again and have lost just over a stone in total, down to 12st 13.5lb from 14st starting weight. I'm really pleased with that but then remembered that AF is due this weekend, with its accompanying lack of energy and general desperate need for chocolate. Curses!!

KihoBebiluPute · 19/04/2021 14:33

Well done @ClaraTheImpossibleGirl it's a brilliant feeling getting a stoneiversary like that isn't it! I hope everyone has a good week - I find it a lot easier to stick to my resolutions Mon-Fri than I do on Sat & Sun.

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 19/04/2021 21:49

Thank you @KihoBebiluPute, I love 'stoneiversary' Grin

Monday - Friday tend to be full of routine so easier for me too! The weekends I have non stop DC duty and have to listen to them squabble and bicker constantly look after them rather than prioritise myself, sadly...

Wejustdontknow · 20/04/2021 09:55

11 stone 3 1/4lbs today, decide to weigh myself daily at the moment. I know weight can fluctuate but I think it will help keep me on track and ease my need for snacks if I keep a regular check on things.
Planning on going for another run this morning. It’s my sisters due date tomorrow and I am her childcare whilst she is giving birth so expecting my 4 year old niece any day now and I won’t be able to go for a run whilst she is here so going to get them in whilst I can, she has woke up this morning with a full period pain type ache and had contractions for a couple of hours last night so I don’t think it will be long now, it’s also my eldest’s birthday tomorrow, he will be 15, I’ve just wrapped his gifts and just need to pick up a cake, I have purposely gone with a regular cake rather than gluten free so I can’t eat any 😆
Hope everyone has a lovely day x
