Is anyone planning on losing weight in 2021, but without following any specific diet?

I’ve tried low carb, plant based, GI diets, sugar free...the list goes on.

But i know that for me, I just need to eat better and move more. I can’t imagine the rest of my life without rice/chocolate etc, and if my weightloss is going to be sustainable, it can’t exclude any food groups.

So my plan is to just eat less unhealthy foods, and eat more veggies.
I’m starting today, but am aware that others may want to wait till new year, that’s fine.

Anyone else want to join me?

Excellent news @CosyAcorn well done. Have a fab weekend.

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 20/03/2021 22:28

Well done @CosyAcorn! I've done a long walk with the DC (DP was "too tired" to come with us Hmm) but did have some chocolate, so who knows how that'll work out come weigh in on Monday...

Happy weekend to you and @KihoBebiluPute!

CosyAcorn · 21/03/2021 07:39

@ClaraTheImpossibleGirl I feel like a treat is always needed after a long walk. Sorry DP ducked out, but good on you for getting out anyway.

Our walk was what we needed yesterday, we went on a sculpture trail and there was lots of trees for DD to climb. I'm getting so bored of the same old walks it was nice to do something a little different...and it's still only a 10 minute drive away.

Today, I gotta fill out the census and try and get a run in. Going to get DH to cook toad in the hole tonight. Not the healthiest of meals but one of my favourites!

SingToTheSky · 21/03/2021 07:59

I’ve been doing so badly. Sometimes the meds stop me eating which you’d think was a good thing but in reality I just eat more later or go for easy carby stuff 🤦🏽‍♀️

CosyAcorn · 22/03/2021 12:33

@SingToTheSky that sounds really hard. Tricky enough to manage cravings without medication adding extra complications.

But we're still here to cheer you on.

Time of the month for me so I've already had a creme egg this morning and I'm craving another one 😒 Just want to curl up on the sofa and do nothing today.

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 22/03/2021 12:46

Aaarrggghhh @CosyAcorn, hope you feel better soon. Hoping that my Easter chocolate order will have arrived before my next AF Grin

@SingToTheSky that's completely understandable, carbs are comfort food to a lot of us as well as being cheap/ easy/ filling. I think cake is mine in particular; when I was young and going through a really hard time at home, I ate a lot of it as DM & DF weren't giving us any proper meals and I would literally be in my room eating cake/ cereal bars/ biscuits to fill up. I only realised very recently that that's why it makes me feel 'better' (temporarily!) to make and eat cake. Sadly my scales do not agree, though!

I lost 1lb this week. 10.5lb gone, 39.5lb to go...

CosyAcorn · 24/03/2021 12:50

Thanks @ClaraTheImpossibleGirl I'm feeling better now.

Still cruising at the same weight but have started having lunch time walks with DH which feels good.

The sunshine is also really lifting my mood this week. I'm so ready for some warm weather

KihoBebiluPute · 26/03/2021 07:45

@CosyAcorn I agree the weather makes a huge difference - it's so difficult getting motivated to start moving when it's cold!

Hope things are ok for everyone this Friday.

My Friday weigh-in:
8th Jan 77.6kg (12st 3lb)
15th Jan 76.5kg (12st 0.5lb)
22nd Jan 76.5kg (12st 0.5lb)
29th Jan 76.2kg (12st 0lb)
5th Feb 75.1kg (11st 11.5lb)
12th Feb 74.9kg (11st 11lb)
19th Feb 74.5kg (11st 10.25lb)
26th Feb 73.6kg (11st 8.25lb)
5th Mar 73.3kg (11st 7.5lb)
12th Mar 74.4kg (11st 10lb)
19th Mar 73.0kg (11st 7lb)
26th Mar 72.1kg (11st 5lb)

Very happy with that. Exercise 4x runs totalling 35km plus 2 walks totalling 8km. Plus I have been booze free this week which seems to have made quite a difference but I have no intention of keeping that up. But I am feeling hopeful that the milestone of 1 stone off since January could possibly be reached within the next couple of weeks.

We are predicted snow in the southwest this weekend!

CosyAcorn · 26/03/2021 08:05

1st Jan: 11st1
8th Jan: 10st10
15th Jan: 10st9
22nd Jan: 10st8
29th Jan: 10st5
5th Feb: 10st5
12th Feb: 10st4
19th Feb: 10st5
26th Feb: 10st4
5th Mar: 10st2
12th Mar: 10st1
19 Mar: 10st2
26th Mar: 10st

2lb lost this week, 1st1lbs loss overall. Now I really want to see the number 9 on the scales!

Well done @KihoBebiluPute! I think booze free does make a big difference but I also don't want to give it up entirely.

Snow! Feel like we've had enough of that for now.

KihoBebiluPute · 26/03/2021 09:22

that is brilliant @CosyAcorn well done - yes that 9 will be there soon. I used to think that the "ideal weight" for my height being under 10st was just ridiculously, unrealistically unobtainable but I do feel that I could be there too in 3 or 4 months time.

I think the predictions of snow were unrealistic though. It has started really pouring with rain since I posted earlier so even if temperatures drop the ground is too wet for it to settle. But the chance of a decent run isn't looking good which is annoying. I hate running in the rain, but I had plans for a slice of cake at pudding time this evening on the condition that I managed at least 10km today and I don't think that is going to happen.

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 26/03/2021 10:10

Well done on your loss and the running @KihoBebiluPute! I haven't been drinking alcohol either although my willpower will be sorely tested over the school holidays mainly because of the extra calories, and my tendency to snack if I do have a drink Blush

Fingers crossed that number 9 appears soon @CosyAcorn!! I'm still chipping away at my target 1lb at a time, just done another workout. I'm job hunting at the moment though so no idea how that will affect things when I am finally gainfully employed.

We are predicted snow for Easter weekend Confused really hoping not...!

CosyAcorn · 27/03/2021 10:10

Good luck with the job hunting @ClaraTheImpossibleGirl! Fingers crossed just the right job comes up for you.

Was very indulgent on the snacks yesterday and really could do with doing some big gardening jobs today but I need DHs help for that and he's in relax mode right now. Can't blame him as he has been working all week and did some volunteering two evenings so he does deserve a rest. Hopefully he'll be in the mood to prune and hack and lift heavy stuff for me this afternoon!

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 27/03/2021 21:39

Did your DH find the energy for gardening @CosyAcorn? DP had a massive hangover so his day was spent in bed or on the sofa feeling sorry for himself Hmm needless to say no-one else did...

The job hunting is going... er, depressingly. After my interview 10 days ago they said I'd hear from them 'very soon' - nothing! I don't think I was what they were looking for (and vice versa, to be honest, although I'd probably have taken it if it was offered) but how long does it take to send a quick 'Thanks for meeting us but someone else had more experience' type of email?!

At least my interview clothes should fit better by the next time I get an interview... 16K steps and a Joe Wicks workout done today. I ache!

KihoBebiluPute · 28/03/2021 05:50

@ClaraTheImpossibleGirl not hearing back within a few days of interview can be really good news. This often happens if the person who comes top in the interview process actually wants to have the job offer in hand as a bargaining chip to negotiate a promotion or pay rise with their current employer. Half the time they end up turning down the interviewed job offer anyway. That's why the interviewing company doesn't tell the 2nd choice candidate that they have been unsuccessful until they have an acceptancein writing from the person they initially make the offer to. It's not rare for a job offer to emerge 2 or 3 weeks after interview.

And if that doesn't happen this time it is still good news because coming second this time means you will probably come first next time, because the person who beat you to it this time won't be applying next time.

Sorry off-topic for the thread. Currently have insomnia. Planning to meet up with a friend for a 10km run later followed by a takeaway lunch .It is so easy to accidentally eat more in extra treats than the exercise burned off!

CosyAcorn · 28/03/2021 09:08

9st13 today! I did convince DH and DD to come out into the garden yesterday afternoon. We cleared a flower bedand DH got a fire going to burn all the logs. He's aching this morning! But the work clearly did me some good.

It's hard to be left hanging after an interview @ClaraTheImpossibleGirl, hope they get back to you tomorrow. Like @KihoBebiluPute says it might still be good news.

Hope you enjoy your run and meet up today, Kiho, and that your insomnia and hour change don't tire you out too much.

It's chucking it down round me today so don't think I'll be going for a run. Will just have to vacuum with gusto instead 😁

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 29/03/2021 22:46

Well done for making it to 9st something @CosyAcorn!!

1.5lb off for me this week which I'm pleased with - AF week this time though, which combined with school holidays means I will no doubt eat my body weight in chocolate Confused

I did hope that about my job interview @KihoBebiluPute but it's almost a fortnight now, I suspect they have just forgotten/ not bothered Sad I suppose they might be working their way down a list of candidates till they reach someone who'll accept their offer...?! I had a 'thanks but no thanks' email today from another position I'd applied for which is a shame as the job looked interesting, but they said they'd been inundated with good candidates and couldn't interview everyone, which made me feel a bit better Grin

bonfireheart · 30/03/2021 08:58

Hi, I'd like to join please:) I'm 41, I weigh 65.4kg and BMI is 26 (overwight). Had some tests done at the doctors and they came back as high cholesterol so am making some (realistic!) changes to lose the lockdown weight and get more exercise as gym still closed.
Changes so far:
Downloaded myfitnesspal and the NHS weightless app to track calories.
Batch cooked soups for the week so not tempted to eat the wrong foods.
Meal planned, restarted my gousto subscription to make it easier. Switched to an almost 95% pescetarian diet.
Downloaded Pacer app and we have a 'family challenge' set up to walk at least 10,000 steps a day. I pop on a podcast and walk around the block before school pick up time!
Bought bathroom scales and took my measurements, to help motivation.

Great to see all the motivation on here :)

CosyAcorn · 30/03/2021 11:27

Welcome @bonfireheart, sounds like a good plan! I admire your batch cooking soups, that's a great idea.

Well done @ClaraTheImpossibleGirl on your loss this week! Good luck with the job hunt. I think job hunting has all the most stressful factors involved: tedious paperwork, competition, high pressure and the unknown. So keep on finding things that bring you calm and comfort as you look. (Although for me that's chocolate so maybe that isn't great advice!)

Yesterday was a lazy and a greedy day so today I made myself go out for a run. It's weird but when I run every day I love it, it becomes a treat and an energy boost. If I skip three days in a row, running is the worst thing ever and I hate it.

Going to see my mum this afternoon and sit in her garden. Can't wait to spend some time with her

KihoBebiluPute · 30/03/2021 13:24

Yes welcome @bonfireheart - and well done for making such a great start.

Applause for @CosyAcorn too for getting into single-digits for stones - that's brilliant, and to @ClaraTheImpossibleGirl for an excellent week's loss. Sorry that the jobhunting continues to suck. Something will turn up sooner or later.

How are you doing @SingToTheSky and @Overstrained? You don't need to wait till you have good news to post before sharing how things are. We all have our ups and downs. I am currently heavier than I was last Friday weigh in as I ended up going a bit overboard on Sunday. It's definitely the booze that makes a huge difference. Not only the calories in the alcohol itself, but the extra food eaten because the alcohol has suppressed the ability to say "no", and then the extra food eaten next day due to feeling rubbish. I am not running today but am about to go out and find some steep slopes to walk up briskly. Will try to do a longer run tomorrow but I suspect my aim for this week is to just get back down to where I was last Friday.

The ‘No Specific Diet’ Weightloss thread.
bonfireheart · 30/03/2021 20:21

Thank you 😊

According to MFP, if I continuing eating like I have been then I will have lost 5kg in the next five weeks, let's see!! Period due to start tomorrow which is usually when I start craving fizzy pop and chocolate. Might have to do online shop to avoid temptation in the shop!

CosyAcorn · 31/03/2021 13:35

Afternoon all, I was on the wine last night and am paying for it with a sore head today. Didn't even have that much. Just late at night and drank it quickly.

@bonfireheart I find period week hard too. And it being Easter week the chocolate temptation will be strong!

KihoBebiluPute · 31/03/2021 14:28

Chocolate on easter day is definitely going to be hard to resist! I know I am going to be given a large and quite posh egg. My aim is to make it last a long time, by only having a little bit at a time.

I haven't been doing great. I did a decent walk yesterday but then pigged out on way too many snacks. Today I have been relatively OK with the food so far but only did half the run I intended to do as it was so hot and sunny and I had dressed too warmly and was too hot to run properly. May need to start getting up early to do runs before the sun gets too high if that's how it's going to be (last summer was before I started running, so I haven't experienced running in warm weather before now).

bonfireheart · 31/03/2021 17:19

@kihobebiluPute we just did weekly shop, DD12 broke up today for half term so couldn't wait for an online shop - there's chocolate everywhere in Aldi lol!! I did get lots of fruit too and nuts so hopefully I can stay away from DD's snacks. Did no walking today, damn you endometriosis. I admire anyone who can go for a run in the morning, am most def not a morning person!

Wejustdontknow · 31/03/2021 18:48

A bit late to the party but do you mind if I join you? I am 37, 5”5 and when I weighed myself Monday I was 11 stone 6lb so I am looking to lose 2 stone which will put my bmi at 22.
I keep trying to eat healthy but work in a supermarket so do great on my days off at the beginning of the week and by the end I’m demolishing whole packets of buns on my break.
I have started couch 25k this week and have done 100 sit ups and 50 squats each day since Monday. I downloaded mfp today to get an idea of what I’m eating and when but won’t stick to it rigidly. I’m not looking to do anything drastic and will be happy with 1lb a week if I can manage it. I’ve just read through the whole thread and it’s very inspiring, I’m hoping as I go into my 3 longest days at work I might be more motivated if I post to others how I’m getting on x

bonfireheart · 31/03/2021 20:58

100 sit ups and 50 squats, well done @wejustdontknow

Who would have thought the one place I'm waiting to reopen is the gym?? Really home it survives from almost a year of being closed :/
