Is anyone planning on losing weight in 2021, but without following any specific diet?

I’ve tried low carb, plant based, GI diets, sugar free...the list goes on.

But i know that for me, I just need to eat better and move more. I can’t imagine the rest of my life without rice/chocolate etc, and if my weightloss is going to be sustainable, it can’t exclude any food groups.

So my plan is to just eat less unhealthy foods, and eat more veggies.
I’m starting today, but am aware that others may want to wait till new year, that’s fine.

Anyone else want to join me?

74.4 bloody kg. So that's pretty much where I was three bloody weeks ago. It's not at all surprising. My eating has been chaotic and my exercise a fraction of usual (2 runs totalling 15km. One walk of 6km) so obvious that this would happen.

Heigh ho. Fresh start. Today is a new day.

1lb loss this week, a stone overall. My next goal is to duck under the 10st line.

Sorry, you've had a week with a lot ofdifficulties @KihoBebiluPute. My whole February felt like I was stuck at the same weight. It's maddening.

@ClaraTheImpossibleGirl a wedding is great motivation. I wish I had a dress up do to look forward to. I'm hoping some of my friends will throw parties over the summer. Want to dress up and dance!

KihoBebiluPute · 12/03/2021 09:14

Well done @CosyAcorn yes it must have been frustrating to plateau for a while but you have a brilliant downward trajectory now. You are doing great.

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 12/03/2021 13:43

Ahhhh! Forgot to weigh in this morning (I usually weigh in Mondays but have a sneaky peek on Friday too, to keep me on track over the weekend!) so hopped on the scales after school drop off and a workout. Looks like I've lost about 1lb since Monday, not spectacular considering how much I need to lose but encouraging.

Well done again on your stone off @CosyAcorn - hopefully now the weather's getting better that will be an extra incentive for us all to get outside and exercise more (and think of any social events we may go to!).

M&S have 30% off some sports bras, making them more affordable - I really must invest as mine are nowhere near supportive enough and I'm giving myself rib pain trying to do the high impact exercise whilst wearing them Blush

KihoBebiluPute · 12/03/2021 17:42

Well I am feeling a bit better this evening having managed a 10km run at lunch time, avoided any snacking (so far! But dinner time is in-sight) and spent £50 at M&S (prompted by you @ClaraTheImpossibleGirl though I have gone for non-discounted full price because I didn't like the sale ones that existed in my size). Hope I can keep it up (well maybe not the retail therapy)

CosyAcorn · 13/03/2021 07:25

Oh I need to look at M&S too! Thanks for the heads up @ClaraTheImpossibleGirl.

So glad that you are feeling better @KihoBebiluPute and that you got out for a run. That must have felt good.

Looks like we are in for another rainy day here so I might do a youtube work out instead of a run. DH and DD are baking a chocolate cake today for Mother's Day so I know that this weekend will involve treats!

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 13/03/2021 16:09

I may have to contact M&S to let them know of my excellent selling skills Hmm

As well as the sports bras (which are much needed Blush) I ordered some clothes for the DC (as they were on 3 for 2!) and a decent bra for me. Bizarrely the M&S website didn't seem to have any bra size guide where you could put in your measurements and it would tell you what size to buy - you could go through a convoluted process about what you wear now, what style you want etc but nothing straightforward?! Roll on the end of lockdown, I intend to go to a decent lingerie shop and get measured properly...

Well done on the run @KihoBebiluPute! Did you do a YouTube workout @CosyAcorn? I did a Wake Up with Joe one only to discover it was all abs work. Major ouch!!

CosyAcorn · 14/03/2021 11:32

I did a PE with Joe last night, and it wiped me out!

I've still put off buying a bra...just haven't measured myself. I'm so lazy and really should just get on with it.

I had a little run this morning, wanted to get out before the rain. Now I want to take it easy thr rest of today. DH is cooking tonight and there's nothing that I must do today except drop some flowers round for my mum.

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 14/03/2021 22:46

I'm enjoying the Joe Wicks workouts @CosyAcorn not when I'm doing them, obviously, but afterwards and hopefully my new sports bras will help. There's a couple of exercises I simply can't do with the current ones Blush

DP hates cooking but obviously felt the need to offer to save me cooking this evening... he went out and got a McDonald's for us Hmm

CosyAcorn · 15/03/2021 07:27

Oh bless him! Hope you enjoyed it. McDonald's always feels like a cheeky treat to me.

I'm up three lbs this morning. I blame the chocolate cake, although it was actually the massive sausage and stuffing sandwich I made yesterday to use up leftovers in the fridge! Just trying to avoid food waste!

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 15/03/2021 09:59

That sandwich has a lot to answer for @CosyAcorn!! I do find bread quite bloating which is a shame because I love it and yes, I'm sure that if I eat too much of it I put on a couple of pounds straight away Sad

2lb off for me today; sounds impressive but I only lost 0.5lb last week, 2.5lb over two weeks is just steady really. But going in the right direction Smile

I think because the DC have McDonald's fairly often - not every day or anything, but once every couple of weeks - it just felt like a lazy option! DS1 is ASD and it's one of his 'safe foods', I know he'll always eat a good amount of it whereas it's difficult finding anything for him when we eat out at other places. DS2 isn't bothered about it and will often just have a few nuggets or something. I just find it a bit meh, would rather have had a nice Indian/ Thai/ Chinese takeaway if it was a treat for me...

CosyAcorn · 15/03/2021 11:00

Oh I see, more like a treat for him rather than you. Sorry, that is frustrating. A bit of thoughtfulness can make a huge difference.

CosyAcorn · 16/03/2021 07:37

Good morning!

Yesterday's 3lb gain has mysteriously vanished overnight. So I'm back to Friday's weight. Going to try and stay focused now until Friday. I find it much easier to eat better during the week.

KihoBebiluPute · 16/03/2021 08:36

I did a weigh this morning hoping to see some benefit as I have managed 3 long runs since Friday morning's disappointing weigh. Unfortunately I have also not been very good at restraint in eating and I was given 2 boxes of chocolates for mothers day, one of which is already empty (I did give away about a quarter of the box but the rest went in my mouth) so I guess it's not surprising that the running was counterbalanced by the chocolate and I am still at 74.4kg. Remaining chocolates are now on a high shelf and I will not have more than 1 per day, and then only if the day has been generally restrained. Target by this friday is to have done 2 more good runs and to have had today, tomorrow and thursday all got through without going overboard on the snacks and chocs.

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 16/03/2021 10:25

Good news about the vanishing pounds @CosyAcorn!! And yes, the McDonald's was more because it was easy for DH than because he'd put any actual thought into it Sad

Hope you enjoyed the Mother's Day chocolates @KihoBebiluPute and at least they were cancelled out by the runs Smile I find dark chocolate easier to 'manage' than milk - a bit is satisfying enough to keep me going - but I do the same as you, put it out of reach/ sight!

Yesterday I just had no real appetite for 'proper' food but did scoff some leftover cake Blush job for today is to give the kitchen a good clean before cooking a couple of meals. Some to eat, some to freeze and then I don't have to think too much about finding something healthy to eat...

CosyAcorn · 17/03/2021 09:40

I could really fancy a box of fancy chocolates now! I love the lily o'Brien ones.

Woke up really early this morning and couldn't get back to sleep. Feel a bit tired and flat now, so not doing a run, though it would probably do me good.

I'd love to have a sofa day but I need to be disciplined and get my work done. Think I might just be stick in zombie mode today.

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 18/03/2021 22:49

I met a friend for a walk today - we usually meet for coffee but obviously there's nowhere to sit indoors at the moment, so we thought we might as well get our coffee and walk, it's too cold to sit on a park bench for long! It worked out really well actually; with that plus two school runs, I'm on 24K steps for today Shock

Probably just as well as I still can't stop eating chocolate Sad

1lb gain this week, 13lbs loss overall. Not great this week. Too many snack attacks.

Well done on all those steps, @ClaraTheImpossibleGirl! And nice that you got to see a friend. I think if it's not raining tomorrow we might try a big walk up in the hills. DH has barely left the house in the last couple of weeks so could do with getting out.

KihoBebiluPute · 19/03/2021 07:49

5th Mar 73.3kg (11st 7.5lb)
12th Mar 74.4kg (11st 10lb)
19th Mar 73.0kg (11st 7lb)

So 3lb off and I am absolved from the cake and chocolate overindulgence due to birthday cake and mother's day. But only half an lb down from where I was 2 weeks ago so not too self-congratulatory. A new high in the amount of exercise I have done - 5 runs totalling 52km and I am unlikely to do that much very often I think! I am having a long-running day today so need to make sure I don't snack as if it was a running day.

Overstrained · 19/03/2021 07:54

Hi everyone, I have't posted in some time so please excuse any glaring errors. I'm so keen to get going that I just have to post and join in, but promise to read the rules and get with the etiquette in due course. This chat thread is just what I've been looking for. Since starting a family, many moons ago, I strugged with weight and have tried every diet going. Now I'm going it alone and using sensible tactics (well, sensible in my head), to deal with my eating issues. After all, I'm the only expert on me. I'm looking mainly to get my mental attitude right and retraining my brain to make long term changes to old habits and assumptions. It's hard but right now I'm feeling very good. I'm losing steadily and feeling so positive at the moment that sometimes, I burst into song! I know that this head state is so fragile and can disappear so I'm looking for ways to keep it going , or if that's not achievable, t recover it if I meet obstacles that affect my attitude.

KihoBebiluPute · 19/03/2021 08:32

Welcome @Overstrained its great to have you with us!

KihoBebiluPute · 19/03/2021 08:36

Typo in my 07:49 post which makes it not make any sense. I typed non-running and it autoincorrected to long-running which is wrong.

CosyAcorn · 19/03/2021 10:01

Welcome @Overstrained! Hope you find this thread useful. I've found it supportive and a good way of keeping on track.

Well done @KihoBebiluPute! That's a great loss, and those runs are impressive! It sounds like you really enjoy them.

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 19/03/2021 21:47

I had an interim weigh in @CosyAcorn and it said I'd put on 1lb too. Definitely too much chocolate!

Planning lots of walking/ cycling this weekend, must charge my Fitbit or I will be most miffed if my steps don't register Hmm

Welcome @Overstrained and well done on the weight loss and the running @KihoBebiluPute!!

CosyAcorn · 20/03/2021 07:59

Morning! Today the scales are more in my favour. 2lb less than yesterday.

DH is currently making fluffy pancakes and later on today we are going for a long walk so I'm hoping an indulgent breakfast and a long walk will balance each other out.

Hope you all have a good Saturday!
