Is anyone planning on losing weight in 2021, but without following any specific diet?

I’ve tried low carb, plant based, GI diets, sugar free...the list goes on.

But i know that for me, I just need to eat better and move more. I can’t imagine the rest of my life without rice/chocolate etc, and if my weightloss is going to be sustainable, it can’t exclude any food groups.

So my plan is to just eat less unhealthy foods, and eat more veggies.
I’m starting today, but am aware that others may want to wait till new year, that’s fine.

Anyone else want to join me?

The weather is beautifully warm and sunny where I am @CosyAcorn - hopefully that frost won't stay with you long. It's a good day for me so far. I made some soup this morning and then went out on a run (in which I broke my previous personal best records for speed Smile) and am now back home and can have the soup for lunch but its really not soup weather any more!

Good evening all.

It’s been a lovely warm day here too, we have been out in the garden most of the day.

I did 8k steps today, went for a lovely walk and had a nice day. Now settling down for the evening with a fruit cider.

Could easily climb into bed already, but want to stay awake til 10pm.

Well done Kiho (it won’t let me tag you) on your run!

I'm impressed with your running @KihoBebiluPute!! Maybe I'll be able to restart C25K once the DC are finally back at school, although my to do list is already dauntingly long...

I love a fruit cider @Bookaholic73!

AF started unexpectedly early today curse you perimenopause so I treated myself to a lovely but highly calorific hot chocolate to soothe my sore tummy. Hopefully I won't regret it at weigh in tomorrow morning Confused

CosyAcorn · 02/03/2021 08:38

Well done on the running @KihoBebiluPute! That's amazing.

I've slipped into snaking again the last couple of days and sure enough this morning I'm up a couple of lbs.

But on the plus side I'm still exercising and I think that I'm looking thinner. I'm trying really hard to feel good about myself no matter what the scales say, so I'm focussing on the positive stuff; I'm enjoying my little runs, I'm looking a little slimmer and I'm more active than I was this time last month.

Hope you all have a great day today

CosyAcorn · 03/03/2021 08:10

Ok back down to 10st4 this morning, thankfully yesterday was a blip. I'd really like to drop a lb by Friday so today's plan is to have a morning run, stick to fruit for snacks and avoid the wine until the weekend.

KihoBebiluPute · 03/03/2021 08:31

Go for it @CosyAcorn - you can do it!

Yesterday was a bit rubbish for me. Too many calories in. Only did a short run as I didn't have much spare time and by the time I managed to get out of the house it was nearly dusk and was really cold and I wasn't enjoying it at all. Hoping today will be better but I have my doubts.

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 03/03/2021 21:55

Was today any better @KihoBebiluPute? I hate running when it's cold and damp. I can put up with it when it's cold and crisp and sunny but dark... urrggghhh.

I had lost 2.5lb at weigh in on Monday - well I hadn't really, as I stayed the same the week before, but it was a boost! - however this week is shaping up to be a stinker. Very heavy AF + DCs squabbling relentlessly + house is a tip after weeks of home schooling = zero motivation to do anything except eat crisps and watch TV...

KihoBebiluPute · 03/03/2021 22:36

Today has been a bit better. I managed a 9km run but couldn't quite be arsed to push through to 10km, but it was good to get that done first thing. Then it turned into such a busy day with so many errands to run that my watch claims I have burned 2600 calories today. I may have eaten that many calories though because DC didn't eat all their supper and I scoffed some of the delicious leftovers. And then had pudding. And a couple of squares of chocolate. Maybe it will even out.

CosyAcorn · 04/03/2021 09:56

@ClaraTheImpossibleGirl sorry its been a rubbish week, at least you started with a good loss. Hope everything feels better next week when the kids are back in school

@KihoBebiluPute I'm in awe of your runs! That's amazing! I just do 20 minutes round the park.

Feel like I'm working hard to just maintain this week. Been running, not drinking alcohol but I'm hovering on the same weight. But hopefully every little good choice will make a difference eventually.

Hope you all have a good day today.

2lb loss this week, 13lbs lost overall. Really relieved with that, I didn't show a loss all week until today, so it was a relief to see the numbers change this morning.

I've promised DD that we can walk to the donut shop (Greggs) today and pick up some donuts. So I'm already deciding this will be a treat day: donuts during the day and wine this evening. Bring it on! 😁

KihoBebiluPute · 05/03/2021 08:51

Wow well done @CosyAcorn that's a brilliant loss you have done really well this week!

8th Jan 77.6kg (12st 3lb)

22nd Jan 76.5kg (12st 0.5lb)
29th Jan 76.2kg (12st 0lb)

12th Feb 74.9kg (11st 11lb)
19th Feb 74.5kg (11st 10.25lb)
26th Feb 73.6kg (11st 8.25lb)
5th Mar 73.3kg (11st 7.5lb)

Only three quarters of a pound down this week which is a bit less than I would like but not surprising as I have had a pretty crap week for snacking and over-eating generally which exercise can't completely overcome. It's all very well pigging out and then going on an extra walk as penance but better to have self-control in the first place.

Exercise this week 5 runs totalling 35km, 4 walks totalling 18km.

The week to come is going to include birthday cake so I am not expecting things to improve much very soon!

CosyAcorn · 06/03/2021 09:24

It's all moving steadily in the right direction for you @KihoBebiluPute, and all those runs and walks will be doing your body a lot of good.

I had a complete pig out day yesterday. All the junk food and wine and no run and hours on the sofa. So I will probably pay the price for that this week.

I could make up for it today if I was at my leisure to get up and on with the stuff I want to do (gardening, a run, rearrange bookshelves) but I have my family to work around too.

I love my family but gosh it's sometimes a bit frustrating being together all of the time. Just when I was getting dressed this morning, thinking I could squeeze a run in, DH called up that he's off to B&Q (to pick up stuff we need) and then DD wanted a bath because she got honey on her knees at breakfast 😅. So instead of bounding round the park right now, I'm sat on the bathroom floor scrolling mumsnet whilst DD has a bath.

Know that's a bit ungrateful, I'm really glad for DD and DH but I am so looking forward to Monday when I can just get on with my stuff without having to work around DD and homeschooling.

KihoBebiluPute · 06/03/2021 11:12

honey on her knees at breakfast Grin
oh the joy.

I am not expecting to run today either. I have a UTI and feel crap, the dishwasher has broken so we have to do washing up by hand, I just spent all morning washing up the dishwasher load that failed to wash overnight, the second load that was left on the side last night that was supposed to be loaded into the machine in the morning, and I have booked the engineer to visit but they can't come till Thrsday. Today we have to decorate a birthday cake and then there's an extended-family curry cook-off via zoom which is going to use every pan in the house, and I have to fetch the click and collect supermarket shop before any of that can happen.

But on the plus side everyone else has just gone out for a walk leaving me alone in the house because we can't leave the house unoccupied because there are a couple of parcel deliveries expected. I could take the opportunity to do a HIIT weights workout in the sitting room (which I hate doing with an audience so only do when I am alone in the house) but instead I am going to sit on the sofa with my feet up, and will limit my exercise to stroking a cat.

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 06/03/2021 21:13

@KihoBebiluPute I was exhausted just reading about your task list and I don't have a UTI!! Hope you managed to get a bit of R&R before everyone returned. And there's no way I'd be having any sort of cooking competition with no dishwasher to cope afterwards Confused

I've had a terrible week @CosyAcorn Blush far too much chocolate to console myself during AF. Can't tell you how much I'm looking forward to a bit of time to myself on Monday although DS2 is already in a panic about it and being very stroppy. Like you I would love the opportunity to have even half an hour to myself every day, but he's so clingy that I usually don't even get into the next room...

CosyAcorn · 07/03/2021 10:16

Hope you feel better soon @KihoBebiluPute, hope the curry cook off went well, that sounds like fun (if the dishwasher wasnt broken).

Sorry its been a tough week @ClaraTheImpossibleGirl,here's hoping things feel a lot better tomorrow. I'm going to have to hunt today for DD'S school reading books ready to take back tomorrow. Not seen them in a couple of weeks but they have to be here somewhere.

Have managed to get a little run in this morning and we are on leftover fish pie for tea so feel like today will be a chilled day. Got church online this morning then am hoping to get out in the garden this afternoon.

CosyAcorn · 08/03/2021 09:10

Weekend indulgence caught up with me. 2lbs up this morning. But I woke up early and got a run in before taking DD to school, and I find it easier to avoid snacks when DD isnt asking for biscuits every 5 minutes 😅

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 08/03/2021 11:16

Hope you found the elusive school books @CosyAcorn! DTS2 decided this morning that he didn't want a school dinner, he wanted a packed lunch. Cue frantic scrabbling around trying to find lunchbox-friendly bits and pieces! He's been sad and stressed about going back today though, so anything that helps is worth it. Unlike DTS1, who couldn't wait to return!

A stunning half pound loss for me today Hmm but I will take it as there was far too much chocolate eaten during AF week. I did do a Joe Wicks workout every morning (found the last PE with Joe quite emotional!) and didn't completely pig out, but yes, far easier to avoid eating when I'm not constantly hearing "Mummy, can I have a snack?" Confused

KihoBebiluPute · 08/03/2021 11:18

I have not weighed myself since Friday. I have got antibiotics for the UTI but they need to be taken with food at times that don't always coincide with a meal so I am eating more than normal. The weekend included more birthday cake than was sensible, plus pizza, plus chips, plus beer. I did manage a short run yesterday. I was hoping for a longer one today but I have had to fetch a DC home from school after precicely ONE HOUR of finally being allowed back into school, because of feeling nauseous apparently but I suspect there is no actual illness here. However the extra trip to school and the additional faffing has eaten up most of the potential running time and I don't think I can fit much in now and still get work done.

Give me strength.

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 08/03/2021 12:21

Hope the antibiotics are helping @KihoBebiluPute? The most recent ones I had also had to be taken with food, and made me feel awful the time I didn't eat enough with them, so much stodge was eaten! Cake

Sorry to hear your DC is home already. If I'm honest I expected something similar from DTS2 but fingers crossed, no call from school yet...

I really wish I'd invested in a running buggy when mine were smaller, one of the school mums has one for her toddler DC and she is very slim and fit. (Mind you they were £££ for twins!!). Perhaps now the DC are more keen on their bikes we'll be able to go out more on them and I can run or walk but most likely walk with them.

CosyAcorn · 09/03/2021 07:39

@ClaraTheImpossibleGirl I don't think I had any energy to exercise when DD was young enough for a running buggy. I imagine it must be even more exhausting with twins!

@KihoBebiluPute yikes, sounds like a frustrating day. Hope your DC is able to go back to school and you can get some head space.

My day was ok yesterday. Started strong, but then had a very dull frustrating nline lecture - and then some uni paperwork to sort out. DD seemed to enjoy school but was tired afterwards. Her teacher had given them a hot chocolate party to celebrate the first day back. All the kids came out with a chocolate ring around their mouths which was very cute.

CosyAcorn · 10/03/2021 10:23

Bad day yesterday. Boiler service revealed that we have a dangerously low amount of gas coming into the house, which means the hob is in danger of blowing itself out. They had to shut off our gas yesterday so last night we got a takeaway in and I ate my weight in fried chicken.

Haven't weighed myself this morning and haven't gone for a run because I can't shower. The gas engineers are back now trying to fix the problem so hopefully we'll be back on by the end of the day. But for now I'm hovering over a gas heater and wondering if I should go out and get a subway for lunch just to keep warm

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 10/03/2021 12:51

What a pain about your boiler @CosyAcorn - any joy with the engineers trying to fix it? I can see how that would put a spanner in the works of healthy eating and an exercise schedule!!

A hot chocolate party sounds lovely Smile I thought the DC were enjoying it back at school but DTS2 was up for a couple of hours last night with 'earache' Hmm - once we got to the bottom of it, he just sobbed for a while "I don't like school" then finally went to sleep about 11pm. I remember now that the lack of sleep was a big factor in making me so fat me not getting into running/ exercising more!

CosyAcorn · 11/03/2021 08:00

Well we've got our boiler back on now, phew! Despite the takeaway this week the scales say I've dropped a lb, so I'm now officially 1 stone lighter than I was on the 1st January!

Knowing what I've eaten the last couple of days the numbers are likely to rise by tomorrow but for now I'm going to enjoy it.

@ClaraTheImpossibleGirl I really hope that DS feels better this morning. I've noticed that there's been more children crying at drop off than there were when the children started in September. I think that children have been through a lot and it's bound to feel overwhelming at times.

KihoBebiluPute · 11/03/2021 09:08

Great news that your boiler is sorted @CosyAcorn - what a pain!

Things are a bit better here. Antibiotics seem to have worked. DC managing full days at school without anxiety attacks. But the dishwasher is not going to be fixed today after all because the engineer is off sick. Rebooked for next week. And I have only managed 2 runs so far since last Friday and my weight is up so I was really planning on a decent long run this morning but it is really nasty out there with wind and driving rain and I just can't make myself do it. I am sitting here wearing my running gear and if I don't go right now it won't happen as I have courier delivery, Teams meetings and various other faffs all filling up the day starting from 10 so even if I did leave now it could only be about 6 or 7 km rather than the 10 which I wanted to do. I think I need to write this whole week off as a blip and accept that I am not going to make any progress now.

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 11/03/2021 09:48

Good news on the boiler and the official 'stone off' @CosyAcorn!!

I have a friend's wedding to attend in July (well, possibly - it's already postponed from last summer, who knows what will be happening by then!) and have worked out that I could be two stone lighter by then than I was at the beginning of 2021. Of course, that does rely on me sticking to the healthy eating and exercising, but I have a party frock to consider now Grin

Miserable day here too @KihoBebiluPute, I must tidy up the garden at some point as there's bits and pieces everywhere. A neighbour's trampoline has already gone flying! I must admit that I haven't got back into running yet (not that I was anywhere near doing 10K) but am doing a workout every day - usually Joe Wicks, sometimes weights - which is helping to motivate me. I am a rubbish runner and unless I can go at least three times a week I just don't improve enough to make me want to continue!
