Is anyone planning on losing weight in 2021, but without following any specific diet?

I’ve tried low carb, plant based, GI diets, sugar free...the list goes on.

But i know that for me, I just need to eat better and move more. I can’t imagine the rest of my life without rice/chocolate etc, and if my weightloss is going to be sustainable, it can’t exclude any food groups.

So my plan is to just eat less unhealthy foods, and eat more veggies.
I’m starting today, but am aware that others may want to wait till new year, that’s fine.

Anyone else want to join me?

I managed a 2lb loss this week so that makes a 3lb total so far. I’ve been doing 16:8 and I’m really not hungry today for the first time!!!
Well done to everyone on their weight loss!

peachgreen · 15/01/2021 15:46

2.2lb loss for me this week, which isn't bad considering I had takeout curry one night and leftovers the next! Still doing 16:8 roughly which seems to be working for me although I have noticed a dip in energy levels towards the end of this week so will have to keep an eye on that.

TheThreeHeadedBeast · 15/01/2021 16:37

I was too relaxed this week and didn't lose anything! So I will be stricter next week, as if i can lose 2lb to make up for this week.
I know that if i am too strict, I will give up, need to find the right balance.

SingToTheSky · 15/01/2021 17:49

I feel like I’ve sabotaged the whole week today - cravings are just too strong and I’m knackered. Hopefully the fact I’ve exercised a lot more will have mitigated it a bit.

Lemonyfuckit · 15/01/2021 20:28

Well done everyone on their losses this week! Abs bound to be ups and downs, it's January, the weather is miserable...and lockdown...

0.7kg loss for me this week (I think is about 1.5lb) so happy with that. God I've been hungry though! Managed to stay on the no alcohol and no sweets / chocolate etc wagon but imagine it's going to be harder over the weekend not to have any treats - weekends are always my downfall.

CosyAcorn · 16/01/2021 08:38

Well done everyone, I think the key thing right now is to just keep on going. @Lemonyfuckit is right, there's a lot to discourage us right now.

I've dropped 1lb this morning which has cheered me up. I'm now the weight I was last year when I decided I ought to lose some weight, tried for a week and then gave up and put on an extra half stone. 😅

I really just want to keep on with it this time.

SingToTheSky · 16/01/2021 09:43

Period arrived. That explains yesterday. Feel like I could eat the house today and still feel anxious/grumpy

CosyAcorn · 17/01/2021 09:12

@SingToTheSky I've had that issue too this week. Hope you feel more like yourself today.

I was on a zoom call last night for a friends virtual birthday party. It was a bit awkward at first because I didn't know many of the other people so resorted to opening up a bottle of wine. That did make the party more fun, but drinking always leads me to eating crisps and my head is a bit groggy today Grin

There's no frost this morning and it's not raining so I think we'll try and get out this afternoon for a family walk.

So today, I'm resisting all snacks, drinking lots of water and moving about more. Hope you all have a good Sunday.

Bookaholic73 · 17/01/2021 09:28

Good morning everyone.
Sorry I’ve been absent, I’ve been very unwell.
I think I have covid, but the test came back negative.
Anyway, I haven’t weighed myself but will leave it til next Friday now.

Eating has been terrible this week, and I’ve felt far too weak to do any exercise too, so I’ll probably have gained I think.

I’m going to be self isolating for another week, just in case, so no exercise outside for me. I might do some yoga today though, something nice and slow and relaxing.

I’m eating lots of fruit and veggies to try and build myself back up.

So sorry that your not feeling well. Hope you feel better soon. Flowers

I broke into my chocolate reindeer yesterday from Christmas, it was delicious. So another lax day yesterday.

But back to motivated Monday. PE lesson in an hour! Grin

Bookaholic73 · 18/01/2021 09:11

Morning all!

Thanks @CosyAcorn I’m starting to feel a little better today.

Feeling so bloated from all the rubbish I’ve eaten, so I’m starting off with an omelette for breakfast.

I definitely think I’ll be making some sushi this afternoon though!

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 18/01/2021 23:03

Hope you have felt better today @Bookaholic73?

We did PE with Joe today too @CosyAcorn Grin

I really need to clear out the fridge and freezer, prep some healthy meals and make a shopping list for more. However by the time I've got the DC to bed, sorted the washing, tidied up, hoovered, prepped for home schooling, etc etc etc it's usually 10pm and I'm shattered! Maybe I will bribe the DC with some tablet time tomorrow whilst I do it Hmm

CosyAcorn · 19/01/2021 08:53

I tried to do PE with Joe yesterday but DD didn't want to do it so we did a zumba class instead.

That's a long day, @ClaraTheImpossibleGirl, I wouldn't be able to function at 10pm either.

It's raining again here. I feel like I'd be doing better with my weight loss if I could get outside and run. A short 20 min run around the park did wonders for me last time. I just don't want to run in the rain, I don't have the clothes for that.

Nevermind, I will try and keep my body moving today around the house.

Hope you all have a good Tuesday!

Bookaholic73 · 19/01/2021 12:13

Morning everyone! I’m feeling lots better thanks @ClaraTheImpossibleGirl

I’ve done an online shop to be delivered on Thursday evening, so we are making do with what we have until then. I’m craving fruit so much!
We are almost out of veg too.

But with rates of infection so high here, I’m avoiding the supermarkets as much as possible. I don’t want to enter one if I can help it.

We have loads of meat left over from Xmas, so it’s just fruit, veg and tinned stuff that I need.
Once it’s all delivered, I’ll get on and do some meal prep.

My aim today is to drink more water too, as I’ve been feeling super dehydrated recently.

How’s everyone else doing?

OP posts:
SingToTheSky · 19/01/2021 12:27

Meh. Weight is not going in the right direction. I do have my psych appt today though so hopefully it means I can get my meds sorted which would help a lot.

Fasting overnight is getting easier again and I’m not letting the odd night make me give up, just setting the timer again the following evening. And I am pleased I have no problem walking to nursery and back before breakfast - yesterday I even did a Ringfit workout before eating.

Bookaholic73 · 19/01/2021 14:15

I’ve been shite at most things to be honest.
But let’s refocus.

Right this minute, we have the power to change it, so that’s what we need to decide to do.

I’m off out for a walk, and drinking lots of water. I’m committing to not eating after dinner from now on, and having an alcohol free month, starting yesterday.

We can do it!

Finally received my Fitbit, after 19 days!
No idea how to add people on there though!

OP posts:
CosyAcorn · 20/01/2021 08:15

Ooh enjoy your new Fitbit! Is it complicated to get it set up?

I'm one lb lighter this morning. Caught up on PE with Joe Wicks yesterday and think that makes a difference, although I do feel a muppet jumping around my living room like a bunny

I'm leaving the house today, which is exciting. I'm dropping a bag of clothes DD has grown out of at a friends house. It's so weird that errands have become the highlight of the day!

Bookaholic73 · 20/01/2021 12:48

It was so easy to set it up @CosyAcorn I really love it. Not sure how accurate it is yet though.

Well done on your loss! I hope I will have lost some by Friday!

Haha, walking my dogs has become my most exciting time of the day. I’ve always enjoyed doing it, but only being allowed out for exercise has really made me appreciate it even more.

I’ve just done 30 mins of low impact cardio via YouTube and I’m sweating loads! I’ve also walked the dogs for 30 mins. So that’s my exercise for the day done.

About to have lunch, probably some salad and chicken as I’m fancying it.

OP posts:
Bookaholic73 · 21/01/2021 08:12

Morning all.

Dreading weigh in day tomorrow, pretty sure I’ll not have lost. But always good to know the score.

I ended up doing 15k steps yesterday, so am really pleased with that.

Having a chill day today though.

OP posts:
Lemonyfuckit · 21/01/2021 08:13

Glad to gear you're feeling better @Bookaholic73! You've just got to be gentle on yourself when ill.

And well done on your weight loss @CosyAcorn and everyone.

Reading peoples posts I think we all put ourselves under enormous pressure to do everything and beat ourselves up if we haven't done everything perfectly. And I'm doing it too, haven't done any exercise this past week because I've told myself it's because settling into the new job - but I'm putting loads of pressure on myself there too, sitting at my desk for 10+ hours and beating myself up for I think doing tasks too slowly... hmmmm. Need to try and take the advice I know I would give anyone else, and take a break to make time to go for a walk, or even some exercise....

U8myufo · 21/01/2021 08:26

Can I join in please? I could do with losing 3 stone but will take whatever wins I can get at the moment. I have a 5 year old and work 3 days a week. Normally when she's in school I can manage two fairly big walks every week but having her home full time and the combination of work and home schooling has meant that I have hardly done any decent walking. Also in lockdown I have eaten a lot of the wrong stuff for comfort and convenience! I have put on a stone since last March! This can't continue and having tried and failed at various diets I am planning to try and eat less, and better. To be honest I can't see me doing any serious walks until she's back in school again whenever that may be but if I can get the food part right at least it's a headstart. Looking forward to hearing about everyone's progress.

CosyAcorn · 21/01/2021 09:05

Welcome @U8myufo,

I think with all the constraints and pressures we are under right now that we have to be ok with small steps.

My kid sabotaged my efforts yesterday by wanting to bake a cake Grin I couldn't say no to that, and obviously couldn't resist eating some either!

But I still did a 20 min youtube workout so I hope that may have balanced out the cake.

U8myufo · 21/01/2021 12:09

Thanks for the welcome @CosyAcorn this is the problem isn't it, you get drawn into lockdown baking with your little ones and then of course you're expected to eat whatever has been made ☺️ I think I'll stick to making birdcakes with my little girl, it's definitely better for my waistline!
Bookaholic73 · 21/01/2021 15:58

Thank you @Lemonyfuckit you are right, but i hate just doing nothing and relaxing. DH nags me to relax a bit more too.
I agree, re putting so much pressure on ourselves, especially at the moment with homeschooling, WFH etc, it's a lot to manage!

Hi @U8myufo, welcome! Gosh it's such a difficult time to exercise when you have young ones isn't it. I love your realistic expectation though, you are probably right that the longer walks will have to wait. Don't they say that weight loss is 90% diet? In that case, we just have to try that for now.

I've had a really chill day today, no big walks, no exercise video...but also no junk food, so i am hoping that helps a bit!

I always find that if i dont have the junk food in the house, I'm not that bothered by it. So I've done this weeks online shop (being delivered tonight) and haven't bought any cakes, crisps, biscuits etc.
I'm sure the kids might moan, but tough luck.
I've bought a lot of fruit and veg though, so not too bad.
