Is anyone planning on losing weight in 2021, but without following any specific diet?

I’ve tried low carb, plant based, GI diets, sugar free...the list goes on.

But i know that for me, I just need to eat better and move more. I can’t imagine the rest of my life without rice/chocolate etc, and if my weightloss is going to be sustainable, it can’t exclude any food groups.

So my plan is to just eat less unhealthy foods, and eat more veggies.
I’m starting today, but am aware that others may want to wait till new year, that’s fine.

Anyone else want to join me?

Morning All.
Weigh in day today, and I've lost 2lbs! I can hardly believe it to be honest. But I'll take it :)

The only big difference i can put it down to is drinking loads more water this week and not eating any junk food at all for the past few days!

I 'only' have 2st 2lbs left till my target weight, haha!

It'll be a pretty quiet day here today, exercise wise.
I will do my 30min low impact youtube video, and walk the dogs for 30 mins, but that's about it.

1st Jan: 11st1
8th Jan: 10st10
15th Jan: 10st9
22nd Jan: 10st8

1lb down this week, 7lbs overall. I'm a little annoyed because I was 10st7 yesterday morning and managed to gain 1lb since then. Probably due to the baking with DD 😁 But I'll still take any weight loss, little steps at a time and all that!

Well done @Bookaholic73! Sounds like your changes are making a difference!

KihoBebiluPute · 22/01/2021 08:45

Friday weigh in:
8th Jan 77.6kg (12st 3lb)
15th Jan 76.5kg (12st 0.5lb)
22nd Jan 76.5kg (12st 0.5lb) EXACTLY THE SAME Angry

So after having lost 2.5lb in week 1 I thought I could treat myself a bit and possibly went a bit overboard on 16th Jan - we get pizza every weekend and normally I am very restrained and only eat a couple of slices of pizza plus a big salad, but I ate more than that (plus a beer) and the scales shot upwards. This week has just been a slog to pay penance for that blowout. I will try not to be so greedy again.

Over the past week I have done 5 runs totalling 32km and 1 walk of 5.3km, and on all the days except pizza blowout day ate no more than 1500 calories a day. It feels like I should be doing better than this and is depressing that I had to put so much effort in just to make no progress at all.

Daisychainsandlaughs · 22/01/2021 09:08

Disappointing weigh in for me. I have gained a pound this week. Probably due to the increased amount of treats consumed. We are not seeing grandchildren due to lockdown and school closure so still have loads of goodies left over from Christmas. In normal times the kids would have scoffed the lot but DP keeps eating them and tempting me. Still keeping up with Dry January though so that’s a positive.
Start weight 13 2
Current weight 12 11
Overall loss 5 lbs.

peachgreen · 22/01/2021 12:28

Rubbish week for me, I've only lost half a pound. My own fault though as I ate pizza and ice cream yesterday. Bah.

Lemonyfuckit · 22/01/2021 13:46

Hi all,

0.6kg down for me this morning since last Fri so just over 1lb.

Sorry for those who are a bit disappointed this week, I mean, it was Blue Monday this week and it's been hideous outside, there are bound to be the odd blips here and there, particularly when it's January, lockdown, and all a bit shit!

Coconuttygirl · 22/01/2021 20:21

Just 1lb down for me this week but like some others, I may have a had a few treats! I haven’t been for as many walks either. Will be going back to work soon where I tend to do 30000 steps a day so hopefully that will help!

CosyAcorn · 23/01/2021 09:26

The scales have been much kinder to me this morning. 2lbs lighter than yesterday. I'm going to reward myself with a whisky this evening. I haven't had a drink in a week and I really fancy one.

It's snowing again here, so my plan of weeding the garden and then a run is going to have to change. Maybe if it sticks we will go sledging.

Hope you all have a good day.

TheThreeHeadedBeast · 23/01/2021 11:26

Not a bad week, weigh in yesterday and lost 2lb. So 3lb in 3 weeks, still on target. Finding i have to be quite strict with food, but saving most on my calories for the evening to eat the same as everyone else, just measuring to check on portion sizes.

CosyAcorn · 24/01/2021 07:40

Well done @TheThreeHeadedBeast!

1 whisky tasted so good last night. But 2 whiskeys somehow disturbed my sleep and kept me up all night. Oops!

Now, DD has got me up at 7. I'm so sleepy! Going to take things slow today.

KihoBebiluPute · 24/01/2021 10:22

I did a sneaky extra weigh this morning and I am 0.2kg less than I was on friday. Will try to keep it up for the proper weigh in next Friday.

CosyAcorn · 25/01/2021 08:19

Well done @KihoBebiluPute!

I find I really need to do daily weigh ins to keep me on track. Yesterday, I was shattered so I sat around most of the day and I had cake and crisps. Sure enough, today, I've gone up a lb.

It's not the end of the world, but it helps me to understand what I need to do/avoid to lose weight.

Anyway, I slept better last night and we've no cake left in the house so I should do better today! 😁

Bookaholic73 · 25/01/2021 10:02

Morning everyone!
I’ve been really good in regards to my food the past few days, so really pleased with that.
And have also been walking for about an hour a day, so the exercise is going well too.

I just have t lo keep it going, especially because it’s almost my time of the month!

@CosyAcorn well done for your loss!

@KihoBebiluPute you’re killing it with the exercise! Well done to you.
I have a tendency to reward myself for weightloss by eating/drinking unhealthy stuff too, but we always have to pay for it don’t we!

@Daisychainsandlaughs that’s still an overall loss of 5lbs so far, which is great! And you’ve done really well with the dry January too.

@peachgreen a loss is still a loss though, so well done!

I’m sat here trying to get work done, but my computer is playing up big time, so a lot of hanging about. But I’m determined not to eat out of boredom anymore!

After my disappointing weigh in I tried to be semi good over the weekend and have dropped another .4kg making 15kg loss overall. Really pleased.

Bookaholic73 · 26/01/2021 08:09

Nice one @peachgreen

It's my time of the month, which will effect my weight. But even so I feel much less bloated today, due to cutting out the evening snacking on chocolate and drinking wine.

I'm tempted to do a mid week weigh in to be honest...but not sure.
If i haven't lost, i'll be disappointed, so maybe not.

I've had some awful headaches and lethargy, but i think that's sugar withdrawal to be honest. I know it'll pass eventually. From memory, it takes about 6 weeks for me to feel normal after sugar withdrawal.

I will be doing a good workout this afternoon too, as I'm taking the dogs for a stomp across the fields and county lanes.

Have a great day all!

CosyAcorn · 26/01/2021 08:10

Well done, @Bookaholic73, that's a great amount of exercise!

Congrats on the loss @peachgreen.

I've been struggling to fit exercise in to the day, now that my lessons have started again. I think it will be easier when the days are lighter and I can get outside during the evening, of if the schools open again and I can have some childfree time.

Sometimes I feel really hemmed in by it all at the moment.

Bookaholic73 · 26/01/2021 08:17

Thanks @CosyAcorn, it's pretty much the only exercise i get at the moment though Blush
I totally get what you mean, I've not had a great few days mentally, with being at home pretty much 24/7 and having to WFH and also have DH WFH too, and DS home learning...it's a struggle.
That's probably why i enjoy the long dog walk daily, just to get some space to myself!

I couldn't resist and just hopped on the scale, and have lost 1lb. Really pleased with that, considering its that TOTM.

For everyone who is disappointed that they've 'only' lost 1lb a week, just remember that if you do that consistently, that's 52lbs a year!

OP posts:
CosyAcorn · 27/01/2021 12:00

You're right, those little losses add up.

I did another Joe Wicks work out yesterday and felt much better. And then this morning the scales showed a loss so that's given me a boost today.

I know my weight bobs up and down through out the week but it is gratifying to see that the overall trend is going in my favour.

KihoBebiluPute · 29/01/2021 07:31

Grumpy this morning. But will recover.
I was 0.2kg down from last Friday as of Sunday, and 0.7kg down as of Wednesday. Then yesterday my period started and today the scales put me at 76.2kg so only 0.3kg (about two thirds of a pound) down from last week. I am expecting that a good chunk of that will melt away when my period stops though as I definitely haven't over indulged since Wednesday!

Exercise in last 7 days:
4 runs totalling 24.9km
5 walks totalling 16.4km

CosyAcorn · 29/01/2021 09:10

1st Jan: 11st1
8th Jan: 10st10
15th Jan: 10st9
22nd Jan: 10st8
29th Jan: 10st5

3lb down this week, 10lbs overall. I'm really happy with that for January's progress. I think I feel good for actually starting on this attempt to lose weight. It's given me something to focus on this January when everything else has felt out of my control.

@KihoBebiluPute my period had the same effect on me. Last week I'd dropped two lbs. Period came and 1lb immediately reappeared. How rude!

FatkinsDiet · 29/01/2021 10:16

Hello!

May I join you please?

I am taking a 'change some habits and see what happens' approach. Ideally, I'd like to lose 10 lbs and could stand to lose some more, but 10 lbs would be a good start!

I've stopped my evening Wine, (temporarily - I was drinking too much... or maybe not too much, but too frequently and I need to take a break), and am doing 30 mins of 'proper' exercise a day. So, running, cycling fast or weights, or a combination. Like a pp, I have little ones and the odds of me getting in a walk which actually counts as exercise are non existent! The 3 yo can't walk far enough or fast enough yet, so it really isn't exercise for me... unless I end up having to carry him...which does happen more than I'd like really!

I'm planning to eat more soups and salads. Fewer carbs, but not zero carbs. Keeping it vague so I can't fall off the wagon, as there will be no wagon to fall off!

TheThreeHeadedBeast · 29/01/2021 17:19

Well done cosyacorn 3lb in one week is impressive and hello to Fatkinsdiet, sounds like you are doing similar to me with the soups.
I lost a further 1lb this week, so now 5lb in 5 wks.

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 29/01/2021 22:51

Well done @CosyAcorn @TheThreeHeadedBeast and anyone else whose weight loss is progressing well!!

I've had almost a whole week of eating well and exercising and am much achier feeling better for it. Hoping that it will reflect in the scales next week, although AF is due so I'm not pinning my hopes on it...

CosyAcorn · 30/01/2021 07:47

Welcome @FatkinsDiet!

I'm up 1lb today. Yesterday I had a very slow day, lots of sitting around and no exercise. Going to do a YouTube workout at some point today but I will be doing some sitting about too, because we're doing the big garden birdwatch today. 😁 I'm looking forward to an hour of just watching and counting birds!

FatkinsDiet · 30/01/2021 08:51

Thank you for the welcomes Smile.
