Is anyone planning on losing weight in 2021, but without following any specific diet?

I’ve tried low carb, plant based, GI diets, sugar free...the list goes on.

But i know that for me, I just need to eat better and move more. I can’t imagine the rest of my life without rice/chocolate etc, and if my weightloss is going to be sustainable, it can’t exclude any food groups.

So my plan is to just eat less unhealthy foods, and eat more veggies.
I’m starting today, but am aware that others may want to wait till new year, that’s fine.

Anyone else want to join me?

Hope your head feels better today @eattolose!

Welcome to the thread @NoJetter! Sounds like you've really been through a lot ❤ I think your plan sounds sensible. Slow and steady wins the race!

Feel like I haven't moved around much this weekend. I was working on an essay that was due in today for uni. But now that's finished I've got more time for exercise. DD and I are starting with Joe Wicks' PE lesson this morning.

Bookaholic73 · 11/01/2021 13:43

Morning all! It’s another car by day here today so far, but I’ll make up for it the rest of the day.
It’s burgers for dinner tonight. The rest of the family are having it with buns and chips, I’ll have it with salad, like a deconstructed burger. I love it!

Those of you who do 16:8 or similar fasting, can you please let me know a bit more about it, as I think I might try it.

@eattolose I hope the head is better today! I can’t drink like I used to!

@KihoBebiluPute that’s an amazing amount of steps, well done. I’m trying to get in 10k steps a day and am struggling!

Hi @NoJetter and welcome! I love the Mediterranean way of eating, and I’m sure studies have confirmed it’s really good for you too!

@CosyAcorn I wasn’t aware that the PE lessons are still going! What time do they start?

I am super hungry this afternoon and it is still hours until dinner. I have literally just opened a tin of chickpeas and poured about a 1/4 into a bowl to snack on. Is this wierd behaviour? Should I worry or just be grateful that I haven't devoured the packet of biscuits??

Ha, definitely be grateful! I have a craving for crisps this afternoon. Could really devour a packet of cheese and onion.

I rather stupidly ate some chocolate earlier. Not demonising it at all but it was silly of me to keep eating what DD1 gave me as it wasn’t even that nice! I should have just tried a bit.

I had two nights off fasting but I’m glad to be kind to myself about lapses - it meant I could get right back on it yesterday.

I’ve been hungry for a while but I’ve held out for dinner.

SingToTheSky · 11/01/2021 17:21

I admire dedication to snack on chickpeas! Apparently they’re lovely roasted? Or I did make a dip out of them once, I must try that again (cooked gently in a bit of oil and curry powder, then mashed with a fork and a little water added for consistency - nice with pitta)

NoJetter · 11/01/2021 18:34

I’m finding popcorn a good snack at the moment. I’d forgotten how much I like it. I got the propercorn lightly salted one. I filled up one of the dc’s little bowls and apparently that was 10g and 43 calories so nice for a light snack when I was craving something salty and would usually grab some crisps! I’m 2lb down since last Monday and while I have a lot to lose it is heading in the right direction.

SingToTheSky · 11/01/2021 21:22

Gah I thought I’d be really full after the risotto which had lots of protein (mostly salmon). Super hungry but I’m also tired and stressed because of moody teenager 😬

Going to read for a while under my new weighted blanket, excited to see how that goes!

CosyAcorn · 12/01/2021 08:02

Hope a good book and your weighted blanket helped you to de-frazzle, @SingToTheSky.

I'm happy this morning that I've dropped a lb. I'm trying hard to only focus on one pound at a time but yesterday I indulged in a little day dream of how I could feel in July if I keep on losing one pound a week. Floaty dresses, boobs that fit in their bras comfortably, fit back into my denim skirt ...

It was a nice dream on a very wet January day!

SingToTheSky · 12/01/2021 08:30

Very wet day here, not looking forward to the nursery run (15min walk each way, could be worse I know!)

Thanks acorn I read for ages, made the mistake of having the heater on too long though so when I did put the blanket on I felt way too hot 😂 so it didn’t help me fall asleep, but I do think it helped me more during the night. Didn’t want to get up this morning though 😳

I’ll have done almost 16h fasting by the time I get back. I know if I ate now I’d just have cereal.

I am trying to plan lunches from tomorrow rather than just winging it. We are really bad for that. But DD1 has been accepted for a school place, doing mornings only in the SN support centre. DD2 does nursery in the mornings, so I thought it was a good time to make sure we all reconvene (DS was already home ed but it gives him a break) even if we are eating different things, hopefully it’ll be a fairly substantial meal with veg etc not just a bit of cheese in a wrap, or in my case nothing but mindless snacking 😳

Bookaholic73 · 12/01/2021 09:02

Morning! I had a bottle of wine last night and am feeling rough this morning. Wish I hadn’t, especially on a school night!

OP posts:
ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 12/01/2021 23:14

@Bookaholic73 I can't drink a whole bottle of wine at all any more, just can't cope with the hangover and the DC Grin maybe when they learn some volume control...

CosyAcorn · 13/01/2021 08:37

I'm very much a drinking lightweight. Three generous glasses and I'm zonked out.

Went for a 3 mile walk yesterday with DD and we are getting ready to do PE with Joe Wicks (Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 9).

Also had three squares of dairy milk caramel. They tasted amazing but I was ok to stop at three squares and not eat half the big bar!

Hope you all have a lovely Wednesday!

Lemonyfuckit · 13/01/2021 11:47

Happy Wednesday everyone!

Hope the not a diet plans are going well. I've pretty much stuck to my 1200 caries a day (well, sometimes it's 1300 or even nearly 1400 but not usually and trying not to be completely rigid in that regard) but my goodness I'm mostly hungry.

Trying to brush my teeth earlier in the evening as soon as finish dinner to help me rule out any snacks or pieces of chocolate later on! Haven't really done any exercise for the past week though (have been getting my head around a new job / haven't really get like it) so going to try and get back into that today as I've basically been sedentary for the past 1.5 weeks.

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 13/01/2021 22:41

@CosyAcorn we are doing PE with Joe too! I haven't tried the Dairy Milk caramel but I was bought some of the Darkmilk for Christmas and found it surprisingly delicious Blush

Did you manage to do any exercise @Lemonyfuckit? How is your new job going?

Lemonyfuckit · 14/01/2021 07:42

@ClaraTheImpossibleGirl not exactly..... I did another yoga session so pretty gentle - but felt good though stretching out hips and shoulders! New job is going well thanks, although they haven't asked me to do any actual work yet! I've just been reading lots of policies, guidance etc. I really hope I have some actual work soon as I still have The Fear that won't have a clue what I'm doing and won't be able to get past that until I do some work! Also feel like not really earning my keep....guess it's a slower start to the year all round.

CosyAcorn · 14/01/2021 07:44

@ClaraTheImpossibleGirl I love all kinds of chocolate and the house is still full of it leftover from Christmas. I'm surrounded by temptation Smile

Actually, although the pounds haven't been melting away this week, I am feeling good about cutting back on my snacks and vices. Before I was drinking a glass of coke every lunchtime and an alcoholic drink nearly every evening. Plus chocolate and crisps every day too. Now, I'm drinking coke/alcohol once a week and only having the occasional bit of chocolate/crisps. That's got to be doing me some good.

Bookaholic73 · 14/01/2021 12:28

Good afternoon everyone! Sorry I’ve been absent, life has been a bit busy.

My eating has been terrible this week! I let it slip once and never really got back on track.
So that’s my mission.

I started the low carb thing, then it just took on a lofe of its own and I found myself doing the EXACT thing I didn’t want to, following a diet.

So now I’m eating carbs and feel lots better about it. Still cutting out bread just because it makes me bloat, but apart from that I’ll eat anything so long as it’s not chocolate.

I’ve been managing more exercise too. I went on an hour long walk yesterday, and will also be doing one today.

Where/when is PE with Joe?

Bookaholic73 · 14/01/2021 20:47

Had a lovely walk this afternoon, and have eaten really well today. No chocolate or wine, which is great.

Friday weigh in:
1st Jan: 11st1
8th Jan: 10st10
15th Jan: 10st9

1lb down this week, 6lbs overall.

PE with Joe is on YouTube. He live streams it on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings at 9am.

I'm going to get on it in a minute, and I'm hoping to get outside a bit today too. It's finally not raining!

KihoBebiluPute · 15/01/2021 09:44

Friday weigh in:
8th Jan 77.6kg (12st 3lb)
15th Jan 76.5kg (12st 0.5lb)

2.5lb down. I was at 12st before Christmas so I suspect these lbs are going to be the easiest to shift as they were only recently acquired (no idea if this is a scientifically valid idea)

Typical menu:
Breakfast circa 300 cals. Usually an omelette or crepe with lots of veg, or a smallish sausage with mushrooms.

Lunch circa 300 cals - either home made veg soup with a slice of bread, or a salad tortilla wrap with houmous, or ryvita crackers with pate and tomatoes, followed by an apple.

Snack - popcorn or carrot sticks w houmous circa 100 cals

Dinner - small portion of "normal" food dinners of various kinds calorie counted to circa 400 cals

A couple of hours later either a small sweet treat or a bit of cheese, around 250 cals

Total circa 1350 cals if I stick to this. There have been days when a bit of cake, G&T or pint of beer got added in.

Exercise over the last week - 3 runs totalling 20.2km. 3 walks totalling 11.5km. Average around 8000 steps a day.

clare8allthepies · 15/01/2021 10:08

Another pound off, so one since last week, 2 in total. I’m still on my period though so hopefully another couple of pounds will disappear after that.

Haven’t been eating any ‘special’ meals as such, just normal with the family but haven’t been mainlining biscuits as I usually do and haven’t had a single glass of wine since Saturday which is most unlike me!

Well done on the losses everyone!

Daisychainsandlaughs · 15/01/2021 10:17

Good morning all. Weighed this morning and have lost a pound. Not really sure how accurate my scales are though as I moved them and got on again and weighed two kilos heavier. They only weigh in kilos and I have to convert to stones and pounds. I think it’s time I bought some new ones.

SingToTheSky · 15/01/2021 10:22

I gave up trying to keep the scale in imperial as DD1 had a phase of weighing herself a lot (she seems to be over it now thankfully, she really doesn’t need to watch her weight) and kept changing it) and kept changing it. TBH the metric is easier to mark off on a small graph. Not that it’s reducing, mind 😭 I just haven’t got my head in the game. I’ve walked a lot this week though, and done a bit of extra exercise in the afternoons, and most nights I’ve fasted at least 14h, so hopefully it’s all added up to help a little
