Is anyone planning on losing weight in 2021, but without following any specific diet?

I’ve tried low carb, plant based, GI diets, sugar free...the list goes on.

But i know that for me, I just need to eat better and move more. I can’t imagine the rest of my life without rice/chocolate etc, and if my weightloss is going to be sustainable, it can’t exclude any food groups.

So my plan is to just eat less unhealthy foods, and eat more veggies.
I’m starting today, but am aware that others may want to wait till new year, that’s fine.

Anyone else want to join me?

I will join the thread but I am not planning to start until the Christmas cheese and mince pie and cake stocks are all finished abs I can restock with healthier foods.

I lost loads of weight in 2020 but have plateaued since about mid November. I don't get on with "official" branded diets though. Nothing gets excluded but I do calorie-count everything and i can have anything i want in small, small servings

Houseandhome · 27/12/2020 12:44

Sounds good to me, I’m going to follow, I am going to try and eat more plant based foods in January but not be too overboard on it with doing vegan cheese/butter etc but apart from that, eat less and move more is the plan.

Bookaholic73 · 27/12/2020 13:15

Welcome @KihoBebiluPute and @Houseandhome, thanks for joining in!

I’m already craving mince pies and quality street, but it’s all gone now, so no more for me!
I find that the more crap I eat, the more I want.
Just a shame it doesn’t work as well the other way around (the less crap I eat, the less I want) 😂

Ha! I’m currently around 11 stone which is the heaviest I’ve ever been. Would love to be 10 stone by mid feb.

Glenthebattleostrich · 27/12/2020 13:53

2021 is the year i make the lasting changes! I've got about 3 stone to lose.

Im going to run more, restart strength training and get my eating under control.

Yes please I will join! I’m planning to carry on with consistent exercise and general healthy eating but still allowing treats and nice foods that fit in with an overall healthy approach.

I’ll come back properly next week with my intentions and measurements etc. as planning to start an exercise plan in the new year (I have Beachbody on demand, probably will start with insanity).

For this week, planning to do my normal workouts and eat well but still have a lot of Xmas snacks which I will most probably eat! Not going to try and eat them to get rid of them but they will definitely be consumed and planning a pizza takeaway for New Year’s Eve.

Hi @ChippyTea16, great to have you on board. I’ll definitely be having a treat on NYE too, and some drinks.

I will join in too. I plan to start on Jan 1st. I don't want to follow a specific diet either. Just eat more healthy food, less junk and smaller portions. I also need to stop drinking wine. Dry January should help with that. I need to lose 3st but I am happy to aim for the first stone and just see how it goes.

Ah, very similar goals to mine then. I have 3 stone to lose and most of that is down to drinking too much wine 🍷

I'd like to join you on 1st Jan. I am also wanting to get into serious hiking and contemplating getting myself some really good wet weather gear! I've put on a stone since September starting when my ds left for uni. Would like to lose 3 stone.

My idea is to use my food diary - page for each day - plan what to eat one half of page then below that write what I have eaten.

I've done many diets and put weight back on again just want to eat less, cutting back on carbs and exercise....need to keep motivated!

Glenthebattleostrich · 27/12/2020 20:00

Welcome!
I need to do a bit more exercise too. I’d love to get into serious hiking, so am started with walking more.

I love hiking, the best thing i bought was my hiking boots. I started with 2 - 3 mile walks and built up. before long i was doing 20 miles! I must add some hikes into my exercise plan.

I have messaged my running buddy and arranged to do a 5k tomorrow morning so wish me luck!!

LightandAiry · 27/12/2020 23:01

Ah great! We can compare hiking notes. I may go for a Christmas lights spotting evening walk tomorrow, enjoying the sparkle while we have it!

Bookaholic73 · 27/12/2020 23:12

Oh I’m so pleased that there are other hiking people here.
For Christmas, DH and I bought each other some basic hiking shoes and coats for the cold and wet weather. We do a lot of coastal walking in the summer, and want to do more of it in the winter too.

Bookaholic73 · 28/12/2020 09:26

Good morning!
Starting off the day with some bacon, eggs and tomatoes.
I don’t like sweet breakfasts, so almost always have veggies of some sort, with some protein.

I’m hoping to drink more water today, as I’ve been slacking recently!

I'd like to join, I need to lose at least 3st, but just want to eat healthier and do more exercise. But will start properly on 1st Jan once all the xmas food is gone. I am also going to restart c25k as i got to week 6 earlier in the year.

Bookaholic73 · 28/12/2020 10:24

@OokSaidTheLibrarian great to have another face here!
We have taken the tree down and have eaten all of the Christmas food already (we didn’t buy much this year) so I’m ready to get some healthy food into me for a change! 😂

I went for a walk earlier on - there's a stretch of water near me where masses of swans gather but sadly some have succumbed to bird flu - good news this morning - many of them looked fine hopefully they will be OK.

Unfortunately I succumbed to the Quality Street! Only 3. Too much food around but I am determined to get going on 1st.

Bookaholic I like scrambled eggs and tomatoes too should fill you up. On a different subject as you enjoy coastal walks, have you read The Salt Path?

LightandAiry · 28/12/2020 13:52

I meant to say also very pleased I got myself some decent walking boots! Waded through a few muddy puddles!

Bookaholic73 · 28/12/2020 14:15

@LightandAiry yes I have, and I loved it! I’ve also read the next book written by her, which was good.
Glad to hear the swans have recovered, well done for going out for a walk.

We had crackers and cheese for lunch, just in moderation.

It makes such a difference doesn’t it! I love mine, and got a great bargain too (reduced from £179 to £102 in mountain warehouse. I’m sure that ‘proper’ hikers would scoff at mountain warehouse, but it’s great for me as a beginner. They have a great sale on!

This is exactly what I need, mind if I join you? :)

I was losing weight slowly and steadily at the start of the year. Then improved my fitness a fair bit (I have some health issues so it’s still not great). Then had to come off my ADHD meds and I’m struggling again.

I am going to try and gradually make better decisions about what/when I’m eating, and get a little more activity into my days too.

I would love to join, thanks. I need to lose 7lb, would like to lose a little more than that.
I want to lose weight sloooooowly.
I’d love to be 10 stone by the end of February, losing about a lb a week. I’m going to start on January 1st.
