Hi! So during the first lockdown, i set up an instagram where I posted photos of every single thing that entered my mouth except from tea, and it really did discourage pointless snacking as I’d pop into the kitchen for a random biscuit but then I couldn’t be bothered to take a photo of biscuit as phone was in the other room, then I realised I didn’t actually really need the biscuit and back it went! It was super effective for a while and along with MFP I lost about a stone, but then I started to follow other instagram account and got some followers back and felt pressure to make everything look pretty, which meant I stopped posting absolutely everything so started having random snacks again, and have now put back on a few pounds! I tried setting up a new private instagram but wasn’t really that motivated! So I’m starting again but instead hoping a mumsnet thread will help!? Anyone fancy joining?!

I’m for a calorie deficit of around 500 per day, so eating about 1750-2000 and burning 2250-2500 (i have a fitbit alta which estimates total calories burnt). I walk a lot (1.5-2 hours a day with dog plus i walk to work) but am going to try getting into running again too! Trying to not be too restrictive food-wise as I’m having problems overeating by quite a bit some days! (when I don’t track while eating and then add up after I can easily put away 4000 calories a day without realising Confused )
I’m currently about 9stone (havent checked for a bit so possibly more!) and aiming for about 8st4.
So yes, please do join and we can look at eachother’s non-instagram-able food! Halo

Ps. a tip I never knew about MFP which makes life sooo much easier, is you can click edit, and check all ingredients for a meal if you’re batch cooking for example, then do ‘save meal’! Saved sooo much time! But maybe everyone knew this already except from me Grin

Todays food for me:
Breakfast: banana bread muffin, microwaved with frozen berries, biscoff spread, 2 crumbled biscoff biscuits (fully recommended, tastes like berry crumble!), 200g greek yoghurt mixed with cinnamon, plus a small mocha ~ 508 cals
Lunch: chicken paella leftover ~ 410 cals
Snack at work: Almond bounce ball - 158 cals
Snack after work: mini hersheys bar plus 2 mini cinnamon biscuits - 78 cals
Dinner: Vegan burger with cheese, sweet pot fries and salad - 800 cals
Lots of tea with oat milk! - 44 cals
Total cals: ~ 1954

Yet another lurker - am VERY interested in the lotus biscoff spread and the gingerbread mocha. Is the monin gingerbread syrup easily available?

Friedbanana · 28/11/2020 18:01

ooo yes the biscoff spread is so good- it adds so much flavour to stuff, I often add a teaspoon to the middle of muffins/baked oats or whatever and it just makes it taste incredible, also 2teaspoons microwaved satisfies me as a pudding! i sound a bit obsessed.. but yes, also vegan! I get it from tesco for just over £2 for 400g, or B&m has 200g jars for £1! And momin syrup is also amazing, i bought mine from amazon for about £10 for a litre, I use it most days and it’s lasted aaaages!

I actually made a white chocolate gongerbread mocha this morning and it was incredible - added 12g grated white chocolate (ms molly tesco 100g for 30p is as tasty as any ive tried!) into my milk frother, with oat milk, instant coffee and gingerbread syrup!
Was busy today with online tutoring so had a bounce ball for breakfast and leftover salmon for lunch! Then headed out for a walk (negative covid test, yay!!) with a chai latte (absolutely recommend aldi oat milk- it foams up beautifully and tastes really similar to oatly barista but for 75p instead of £1.80!)
Tonnes of cals left over tonight which is super rare for me so i’m going to have a yummy comfort food dinner!
Also weighed in at 8st 12.8 today so I’m happy! I used to think I had to really really restrict to lose weight but I’m so glad this other way works!

Absolutely looovely dinner tonight, Aldi pastry (fully recommend!!) with roast aubergine and sweet potato and gravy! For basically all my adult life, whatever weight I was, I would never ever buy anything like this as I’d take one look at the packaging, see all that red, and go for something ‘healthier’, however then i’d not be satisfied so would later eat a whole tub of ben and Jerry’s/ a whole pack of rice cakes/a whole box of diet cake bars/a whole box of cereal, none of which I’d enjoy as I’d just feel guilty and sad. I was exactly the same at restaurants, always ordering the lowest calorie thing on the menu despite really wanting something else. Then I’d again completely outweigh any calories saved by binging later on and would put on weight. There’s been so many times where I’d be out with friends and not order the piece of cake that looks so amazing, not stop thinking about it, and again binge on crap later, definitely consuming more calories than the cake would have been. So I actually feel so so happy that I now enjoy the food I want, whatever it is! And it’s kind of crazy how I enjoy food way more now that I’m at a lower weight than my average weight over the last 10 years! So yes, just in case anyone does the same thing as I used to, I thought I’d share!

Been putting a few more decs up tonight so had a baileys gingerbread hot chocolate with mini marshmallows! However couldn’t actually finish it as I wasn’t enjoying the taste 😂 Maybe the baileys has gone off as it’s been open for a while!! I hate wasting things so feel like I should finish the bottle however really don’t want to.. and can’t really give it away if it’s off 😂 but anyway the marshmallows were nice! Proud of myself for sticking to 10g!
Have eaten just under 1800 calories and burned around 2400 calories today so very happy with that deficit!

👌🏼 looks like a great day, thanks for posting.

I’ve just bought a milk frother Biscuit

Whoops didn’t mean to post that emoji, I believe it’s rude? Slip of the finger Blush

izzy2076 · 28/11/2020 22:25

Ooh I love this thread. Your food looks so good. Your way of eating is so balanced and healthy. I'm aiming for a small deficit as well and get a bit worried as I feel I should be on 1200, which is not sustainable for me at all.

Friedbanana · 28/11/2020 23:33

Haha @Schummakker I don’t know what it is it just looks like a pretty flower to me! Yay for milk frother! Just realised I probably sound like I’m advertising milk frothers, as well as gingerbread syrup and biscoff spread 😂 but I just am enthusiastic about things I love and want to share that in case it helps anyone 😂 😂 and hoooopefully you will love it as much as me! I particularly like how it basically doubles the volume of the milk, so saves cals as you think you’re having a decent amount when it’s only like 100ml!
Hi @izzy2076, thank you!! It deff wasn’t always balanced/healthy but i’m so happy it is now! Don’t be worried at all about small deficit, I’m sure you will see results!! I found some nutritionalist youtube vids so useful back in April, I really like this channel! She just explains how 250-500 cal deficit is good and sustainable and some of her other videos (like the tik tok weight loss advice slamming) i enjoyed and found useful! Like she says, we’re conditioned to think you have to see super quick results through really restrictive dieting due to the diet industry, tv programmes etc, so I totally get how you feel you should be eating less as that was me exactly!

Good morning! Forgot to take photo of morning mocha but had one, with the cacao latte and some maple syrup for a change! (forgot to say the pukka lattes are so expensive but I got with £1 off and mine have lasted for so long as I only use a teeny bit), and breakfast was a wholemeal bagel with flora, 10g biscoff spread and 15g mackays ginger and rhubard jam, such a goood combo! (photographed while holding up to the fireplace as phone was charging in dining room and dining table is completely covered in different crap atm 😂) need to have a big old putting away things session today, but first out for a walk with the dog!

Good evening! For lunch on walk I had leftover roast veggies and a sausage roll made by dp, then once home some stuffed medjool dates with almond butter, dark chocolate and mini cinnamon biscuits for some crunch (this snack i’d deff recommend! even just dates stuffed with almond butter is delish, you don’t need the choc and biscuits), then some blueberries and dark choc as I was feeling snacky, then a weeeeird dinner because we needed to use the vegan burgers but didn’t have any bread, so I used a mini naan bread!
Around 1751 calories in total but feeling really hungry tonight, maybe because I didn’t have my usual half plate full of salad with dinner.. and i’ve only had 53g protein whereas i normally have about 90g.. so think i’m going to have a protein hot choc (just choc mint protein powder mixed with oat milk in the frother) as that normally seems to clench hunger! Also just checked and I’ll have burnt about 2700 cals today (nice long walk and putting things away hours) so maybe that’s why I’m so peckish!!
Sorry for rambling, but writing this post has deff helped me come to a sensible solution about what to eat now, instead of starting to mindlessly eat!

Also down to 8st 12.4 yay so I think about a 1.5 pound loss this week!

Looks great!

How long do you walk for each day to build up the deficit?

SandysMam · 29/11/2020 21:38

Your food looks very nourishing OP, makes me realise I don’t really eat enough! Love this thread!

Friedbanana · 29/11/2020 21:53

@Schummakker most days I do about 20000 steps, today did about 23000 so that’s the extra deficit, as we did a 2 hour 20 min walk which burnt 746 cals according to fitbit! I feel like walking is so underrated! I haven’t been doing any other exercise for a while (the elliptical exercise on the screenshot is a lie, i was walking then 😂, sometimes wonder how accurate fitbit is but the calories seem to add up when i look at weight lost!) although I do want to get back into yoga and running as I think it helped my happiness levels! Maybe this week!

Here’s my protein hot choc, plus I decided to make a little biscoff crumble for 130 cals using one biscoff, 10g biscoff spread and 100g frozen berries so total cals 2083 and feeling much less hungry!

Yes, I think that’s what draws me to it too. The fact that the OP cooks nourishing food thats enjoyable in a balanced way.

It can get quite restrictive and dull approaching food as a number of calories to be feared.

Friedbanana · 29/11/2020 22:11

@SandysMam hello! I think it’s just because I don’t have the discipline/have too big an appetite to sustain a more restrictive diet 😂 and because i’ve had a lot of issues with binge eating before, I need to have meals I enjoy to look forward to so I can remind myself that I don’t need to binge as I can have a nice meal later! But I’m so glad that people are enjoying seeing it/it’s encouraging people to have more foods they enjoy!

Hello! Today’s food-
Breakfast- white choc gingerbread mocha, and a vegan burger as it needed used 😂 with an egg and cheese and pine nuts and crispy onions in a wholemeal muffin
Snack- fibre rocky road bar
Lunch- chickpea salad with balsamic, olive oil and maple syrup dressing and pine nuts and crispy onions (i get crispy onions from tesco £2.50 for 300g i think, they are in no way nutritious as they’re just deep fried, but they make salads so much more exciting, like i actually look forward to my salads, and I only use 5g =29 cals! Also great in sandwiches, i recommend!)
Snack- slice of toast with flora, biscoff and jam (forgot to take a photo until I’d taken a couple bites 😂)
Another snack- 3 mini chicken wings
Dinner- vegan sausage sandwich with mayo and ketchup

Total cals about 2050 and I’ve burnt around 2900 :) find i just really don’t have the urge to binge anymore or snack really, think it’s partly this thread/ the photos, but also not denying myself food when i want it/allowing myself more calories than normal :) Also definitely filling in my main meals on MFP the evening before helps :)

Plus the chicken wings- this deff wasn’t planned as my dp had cooked them, but i felt like i wanted some- i think it’s good to listen to your cravings otherwise if you’re anything like me you’ll crack later and eat those calories you saved plus more!

Looks good 👌🏼 Was going to post my dinner here but forgot.

Usually I buy expensive organic almonds walnuts seeds etc and leave a small plate of them for my DD and find them the next day uneaten in her room. Inspired from your posts, I melted a square of Belgian chocolate (I was given by a friend) and drizzled the nuts with it, not much at all. Needless to say they were eaten!

Just goes to show small bits of something you fancy won’t do much harm and makes it much more palatable.

Girlintheframe · 01/12/2020 16:54

Love this! Your food looks delicious 😋

Friedbanana · 01/12/2020 21:05

ooo @Schummakker love the sound of that, I will have to try doing that one day!
Today slightly less nutritious as dinner was a greggs vegan bake 😂 was just so tired and hungry on way back from work and had more work to do at home and I was craving one.. wasn’t actually as nice as I remembered but since it was 4.30 it wasn’t exactly fresh! But anyway, I read somewhere you should aim to eat 80% healthy and nutritious food and 20% everything else so greggs for dinner every once in a while is totally fine 😂 grateful for my kinder advent calendar, 30 cals of joy with my coffee each morning for the next month 😂
Also took an aldi florentine in my packed lunch today to mark the start of the festive season 😂🎄

the middle photo is a cheap version fibre one birthday cake bar microwaved with 10g lotus spread.. i accidentally burnt it so will only do 30 seconds next time 😂 it’s nice though and tastes like warm blondie
