Hi! So during the first lockdown, i set up an instagram where I posted photos of every single thing that entered my mouth except from tea, and it really did discourage pointless snacking as I’d pop into the kitchen for a random biscuit but then I couldn’t be bothered to take a photo of biscuit as phone was in the other room, then I realised I didn’t actually really need the biscuit and back it went! It was super effective for a while and along with MFP I lost about a stone, but then I started to follow other instagram account and got some followers back and felt pressure to make everything look pretty, which meant I stopped posting absolutely everything so started having random snacks again, and have now put back on a few pounds! I tried setting up a new private instagram but wasn’t really that motivated! So I’m starting again but instead hoping a mumsnet thread will help!? Anyone fancy joining?!

I’m for a calorie deficit of around 500 per day, so eating about 1750-2000 and burning 2250-2500 (i have a fitbit alta which estimates total calories burnt). I walk a lot (1.5-2 hours a day with dog plus i walk to work) but am going to try getting into running again too! Trying to not be too restrictive food-wise as I’m having problems overeating by quite a bit some days! (when I don’t track while eating and then add up after I can easily put away 4000 calories a day without realising Confused )
I’m currently about 9stone (havent checked for a bit so possibly more!) and aiming for about 8st4.
So yes, please do join and we can look at eachother’s non-instagram-able food! Halo

Ps. a tip I never knew about MFP which makes life sooo much easier, is you can click edit, and check all ingredients for a meal if you’re batch cooking for example, then do ‘save meal’! Saved sooo much time! But maybe everyone knew this already except from me Grin

Todays food for me:
Breakfast: banana bread muffin, microwaved with frozen berries, biscoff spread, 2 crumbled biscoff biscuits (fully recommended, tastes like berry crumble!), 200g greek yoghurt mixed with cinnamon, plus a small mocha ~ 508 cals
Lunch: chicken paella leftover ~ 410 cals
Snack at work: Almond bounce ball - 158 cals
Snack after work: mini hersheys bar plus 2 mini cinnamon biscuits - 78 cals
Dinner: Vegan burger with cheese, sweet pot fries and salad - 800 cals
Lots of tea with oat milk! - 44 cals
Total cals: ~ 1954

Aldi macaroon, a huge lunch with leftover turkey and a scrambled egg and smoked salmon croissant, and a cacao latte (only 23 cals as i used unsweetened almond milk!) Also did another run today, only 5k but I’m going to start gradually increasing!

@Friedbanana does the latte mix itself have dairy in it? Could you post a pic of the ingredients, that looks delicious

Good work on your run! I'm Having a few days off as I did an accumulator running challenge in December. I've only missed one day and my feet are already twitching, plus I bought new kit today that I want to try out! I might have to nip out for a quick 5 myself before Friday!

Do you find you eat more when you run? I have eaten so much less today than on my running days, plus haven't needed to pick/graze.

Friedbanana · 29/12/2020 21:44

Oo that’s good, so good that you’ve got into such a good habit with it! I’m going to try and do more reguarly too!

Yes I deff find I need to fuel myself with more food with longer runs! But as you can see i currently eat quite a lot everyday anyway 😂 but back in May i would eat 1200 cals in a day where i’d also run a 10k, and i remember feeling really faint and starving, and the running was such hard work, my heart rate would be right at peak! and my running would be slow compared to days where i ate properly! So yes i think deff running days require more food! Today overall I’ve only burnt about 2500 cals as didn’t do much walking so I’ve eaten about 2120 cals!

Kung pao cauliflower was delicious!! Also had 1 hotel chocolat, 1 jaffa cake, 1 white choc and strawberry nougat bar (told myself to stop buying diet cereal type bars but saw these and as i love white choc and strawberry combo i could not resist) and another cacao latte (also here’s a photo of the ingredients! no dairy i don’t think!)

So last night I also had some more popcorn (140 cals) as I can’t seem to resist the late night popcorn! But 140 cals not much and much better than a binge so I’m happy, still managed a 300 cal deficit :) This morning i’ve had a gingerbread white mocha and a veggie sausage, egg and cheese bagel!

Not the best diet today but had a lovely day out and about and got lots of steps in! Took out a chai latte with unsweetened almond milk, then had a large battered haddock and mushy peas plus 2 of DPs leftover chips (no idea on calories and i think i always estimate differently 😂 but today I’ve estimated 920 for this portion 🤷‍♀️)
Then i had a cinnamon spiced cappuccino with oat milk from costa, which was v nice! That’s estimated as 160 🤷‍♀️ so far today I’ve had about 1900 cals and i’m actually reaaaally full currently so I think it’ll be a nice light dinner :)

@Friedbanana fish and chips by the sea sounds amazing you lucky thing.

I've had a really nice celeriac hash with chicken for lunch, and this evening I had seafood pie and calamari with chilli jam on the side. Good grief, it was yummy, but not photo worthy unfortunately.

We are starting whole30 on Friday so eating up the last of the goodies and I may even have a small piece of Xmas cake or a choccy biscuit later as a treat. It feels weird having gone all through Christmas with no sugary stuff and I feel like I might just have one tiny thing just to taste it before giving it all up again.

elp30 · 30/12/2020 19:17

Hi @Friedbanana

I've been lurking on your thread for a while and I've quite enjoyed it.

I did something similar about two years ago but in a personal journal and like you wrote up thread about your private Instagram, I didn't feel accountable because it was private. I abandoned it after a few weeks.

I'm wondering if I should do it again but do it more visible like you have.

Obviously, I won't start until January 2nd AFTER all the indulgences on NYE and the weird hangover cures on the 1st. I'm not going to pretend I won't celebrate the end of 2020! Lol

Friedbanana · 30/12/2020 22:02

@thenewaveragebear1983 it was yummy, we are walking distance to the beach and I am so grateful everyday! (walking distance is 30 mins each way hence my high step counts/calories burnt as i take my dog there most days!)

ooo your food sounds delicious! Fish pie sounds gorgeous! I would love to make a fish pie but DP hates anything with a creamy sauce so I’m a bit limited 😂 i feel bad my food really isn’t very interesting or photo worthy, just grateful no one has come on to tell me to stop posting terrible photos and disapproving of my diet 😂😂 Oo yes definitely treat yourself to christmas cake and /or chocolate biscuit and enjoy every bite!

Hello @elp30, yes, that’s exactly it! I would fully recommend this method! Ideally obviously I’d be able to eat sensibly without doing this haha, but apparently I can’t so it seems this is the way, and I’d recommend to anyone! Public instagram is also really good if you follow the right accounts! There are quite a few weight loss/weight maintenance accounts of people doing food diaries, just I started following too many general foodie accounts and also eating disorder recovery accounts, then had those following back, so got self conscious of what i was posting.. also I was spending too much time instagram scrolling so wanted to take a break from that! But if you just follow other food journal accounts it’s a really supportive place i think!

Good plan not starting till 2nd jan though, although i would enjoy seeing your weird hangover cures!!

Tonight i got a bit carried away preparing a ‘light supper platter’ for the two of us, I didn’t bother counting cals as today was an estimate anyway, i’ll have burnt 2600ish cals though so hopefully got a tiny deficit? although I’m feeling pretty full! also my daily hotel chocolat and a tiny blurry gingerbread biscuit!

OP I love this thread! I did this with a friend over WhatsApp for a while and it worked a treat, but she lost interest and stopped posting, so I felt like a bit of a knob just sending her pictures of food with no reciprocal photos! I'm going to start this on 2 Jan too. In fact you have inspired my 2021 new year's resolution!

riotlady · 31/12/2020 11:20

Have just read this whole thread, love your attitude to food OP, very balanced!

Friedbanana · 31/12/2020 15:28

Haha @pontiouspilates, yay this makes me really happy!! And thank you @riotlady, I am so sorry about how rambly and long my posts are 😂😂
Happy new years eve to everyone!
Started my day with a white choc gingerbread mocha then an aldi gingerbread baileys hot choc on the morning beach walk! Then had a sausage, egg and cheese bagel with salad, and have just been having a veeery chilled day on the sofa snacking and watching tv! Mini gingerbread biccy, 1 chocolate, a lebruchen (very nice dipped into tea!!) and 30g popcorn! Tonight we are making pizzas and mojitod 🎉🎉🎉

plus a few more sneaky gingerbread but only small!

OP posts:
Friedbanana · 01/01/2021 11:57

So I did have a few more party rings last night in the end 😂 i blame tiredness! I just added everything in on my fitness pal and actually very pleasantly surprised that everyone in total was just 2950 cals (1400 cals of that being snacks 😂😂) Wasn’t sure on expresso martini cals so estimated 140! But apart from that i think it’s pretty accurate! I burnt about 2500 cals yesterday so not a huuuge surplus, so I’ll be able to even it out i’m sure over next few days :) (although planning a big dinner today so will prob be in a bit of a surplus again!)

OP posts:
Friedbanana · 01/01/2021 12:04

Oops forgot to log the macaroons! so actually 3040 cals for yesterday!

This morning I’ve had a mint mocha and a scrambled egg and smoked salmon croissant (love croissants as they feel like such a treat but only 150 cals, and you can get like 8 for a £1 from tesco! I know they’re not nutritious at all and these ones prob have a load of preservatives but i do tend to feel satisfied/filled with joy after having one heated up with nice fillings 😂)

What a great thread! Your food looks so interesting - mine would be a bowl of plain porridge, a plate of curry and rice with naan and nothing else etc Grin

Friedbanana · 01/01/2021 19:10

Haha thank you @Corriefan2021, I think I just need to keep it interesting to stick to it! A few snacks today then a big dinner (had this plate x2 pretty much as I had leftovers!! But still have some leftover for tomorrow)
Feeling very full now! So prob no more food today but may have a chai latte later!

My yorkshires don’t normally look this pathetic- had to use unsweetened almond milk for the batter today as I didn’t have any other milk in so I’m guessing that’s why!

Again last night I had a few snacks (10g lotus spread, 10g vegan squirty cream, 1lotus biscuit, 10 jelly beans, 2 party rings and 35g popcorn) even though I deff wasn’t hungry :/ this is the habit i need to break (basically every year through jan - april i remember night snacking which leads to my 1 stone yearly weight gain, which I then proceed to lose with a restrictive diet that makes me miserable) however I am being kind to myself as this time last year I would prob have eaten the whole pack of party rings/whole bag popcorn etc. I think we always have to try being kind to ourselves and realise sometimes we slip and it’s ok! So anyway, tonight I’m going to try nip the non-hungry snacking in the bud! I’m going to maybe plan a treat to have tonight that fits in with a good calorie goal so that I don’t end up having extra pointless stuff 🙂
Started the day very healthily with half a poptart 🤨🤨🥴 lol but actually it’s what I felt like and I’m sure I’ll balance the day with more nutritious food!! It’s only 95 cals which would normally no way be enough for breakfast but i’m still kind of full from last night! Also added 5g biscoff spread, nice and melty!

Delicious leftovers! Mostly heated in the airfryer with exception of peas and gravy! This vegan lattice was soooooo so nice, from tesco plant chef range, even DP loved it! But it’s only available at Christmas time 😩 need to find an all year round alternative that DP likes too as I would love to have something like this for sunday dinners!
