Nourishing November

Right here's the new thread. Thought I would find a kind title as October has been a challenging month for so many and at the risk of sounding pessimistic, November is likely to be to. I'm starting at 9st2.75, my aim for the end of November is to get into the 8s.

Afternoon!
62.5 this morning. A little bit of loss so looks like I'm calculating calories right.
B: skipped as they call me from work to cover a shift
L: ham and cheese s/w, apple, pretzels and smarties
D: meatballs and pasta

IDontMindMarmite · 09/11/2020 18:06

Good evening everybody. I am enjoying my diet at the moment, fitting fun things in. Finding ways to reduce calories in main meals. S'all good.
B: Overnight oats
L: Chicken noodle soup
D: Macaroni and cauliflower cheese
S: I made peanut butter and chocolate chip cookies last night and they are AWESOME. I really enjoy baking. So 2 of those today and PIL sent us some Hotel Chocolat treats so I had one of those too! What a treat.
Work was back to being crazy and kinda fun. Remembered why I do my job.
1416 all in. Rockin' it.

Did you think of something for dinner @HeyGirlHeyBoy? I like Chicken pizza where you flatten the chicken breast (or buy breaded fillets), spoon some tinned tomatoes on top, plus cheese and herbs and grill it for 30 mins or so. Very easy.

IDontMindMarmite · 09/11/2020 18:08

I bought reduced calorie cheese from the supermarket at the weekend. Has anyone tried it? I haven't had a chance to try it yet...

HeyGirlHeyBoy · 10/11/2020 08:21

Dh bypassed the chicken and did a spag bol while I was online! No move again today but I did have 3 homemade wholewheat cookies last night.. 17500 steps so I'm happy with that.

Today's goals, trying to keep it simple: 2.5l water, no junk, 10k steps and a 10pm bedtime.
B: banana, blueberries, almonds and Greek yoghurt
L: soup
D: veg heavy chicken stir fry
S: apple and mandarin

Have a good day all.

Monochrome4 · 10/11/2020 10:39

Morning all. 62.4kg today which I'm happy with. I keep snacking in the evenings, a habit which I thought I'd kicked. I'll try harder this evening because I think evening snacks is one reason I put on weight in the first place.

I've also been looking through old photos to work out when I put the weight on. I was really slim throughout 2014 when child no. 1 was a baby, but I know I was much bigger by the end of 2016 when I got pregnant with no. 2. So some time during 2015-2016. It would be good to know what was going on and how I did it so I can prevent it happening again.

Octopus37 · 10/11/2020 11:52

Glad you are feeling better I dont mind marmite, your food sounds great. Monochrome its interesting to try and work out the reasons for weight gain. Like you I was very slim when the kids were young and tbh think I gained in start due to starting dieting an getting stuck in the diet binge cyle, being on and off ADs and moving into my 40s. In 2014 I was 8st after the death of a friend, but only about 8st7 (although I was trying to lose weight) shortly prior to that. Was 9st by mid 2015 when my MIL died, slimmed down to under 9st in 2016, horrible work situation, back on tablets, 9st7 by 2017, slimmed down to just under 9st in 2018, up to 9st11.25 by the end of 2019. 9st2 today but doing much better with my steps. Think managing to stay off ADs is part of the prevention for me, beyond that not so sure.

One of the first times I put weight on was due to an antidepressant now notorious for weight gain. It's a shame as it worked brilliantly but I found it impossible to control my weight.

Another time I gave up alcohol and found myself bingeing on chocolate and ice cream every night.

This last time it was surgery and slow recovery and it just piled on and being in my 40s so much harder to lose than it used to be.

Inactive day spent marking and doing reports today. Busy day tomorrow and I'll try to fast till late afternoon and then have a healthy meal.

Take care everyone

HeyGirlHeyBoy · 10/11/2020 19:22

Interesting to see people's paths along the way, lots of tough times surmounted..

For me I had sweet food as an unofficial reward and treat through childhood and then it was something for boredom teamed with that relief it would give me when dc were small and gone to bed. Plenty of ups and downs in recent years meant I reached for it more and more as a quick relaxant and sugar hit.

Did well today, I'm going to leave the cal counting for now and stick with the simple goals. 10k steps done, three good, healthy and low cal meals. At the 2L water point so I'll drink two more glasses before my early bed. Love this thread.

HeyGirlHeyBoy · 10/11/2020 19:31

I really feel, for those of us finding the good side of things just too much to even take on at the moment, that exercise is the way. Not even regarding calories but just as a positive move and to keep boredom, lagging at bay. Just in now from a quick half hour jaunt with the youngest dc on his bike and we're going to make it a regular thing.

Monochrome4 · 10/11/2020 20:34

I'm looking forward to being able to count bike rides with children as exercise. Right now it's an exercise in seeing how slow it's possible to go while still balancing.

HeyGirlHeyBoy · 10/11/2020 21:06

Ha! Yes he's 5, flying along, I couldn't keep up but he stopped at corners for me! What ages are yours monochrome?

Octopus37 · 11/11/2020 07:20

Good about the exercise Heygirl, think it definitely helps well being. I'm not a cyclist but I am trying to increase my steps. 9st2 today, food is so so.

Braved the scales. 14:1. Could be worse. Hopefully today's fast and busyness at work will help

HeyGirlHeyBoy · 11/11/2020 08:42

Back in the 8s baby! 8st 13.5 Grin I'll take it. Same targets today: 2.5L water, no junk, early night and 10k steps.
Have a good day all. Racing, will check in later.

Monochrome4 · 11/11/2020 09:29

Morning all! Good to see everyone in reasonably good spirits.

Heygirlheyboy Mine are 6 and 3. The 6-year-old can go a reasonable speed if he really puts his mind to it, but usually prefers to pootle along. Even when he's going fast for him, it's not really exercise for me. The other day I said "Can you change up a gear or two? We need to get to school." He replied "No, I can't use the gear lever because I'm holding all these leaves in this hand." Cute, but not very fast.

The 3yo can either go on her balance bike or on a child seat on my bike. We used to have a bike trailer, but it only lasted for one term before my older one got fed up and squashed and wouldn't go in it any more. They're useful for children who are closer in age.

Monochrome4 · 11/11/2020 09:30

Oh and 62.1kg this morning. Back to my lowest. Hoping to break the 62kg mark before long. Onwards and downwards!

HeyGirlHeyBoy · 11/11/2020 19:16

Well done Monochrome!

It gives a definite boost octopus, and the timing is perfect for me after dinner leaving me feeling positive and with some energy for the evening ahead. I'm walking, he's cycling. 12k steps in, some more water to drink, no junk and it'll be lights off my 10. Fighting fit!

IDontMindMarmite · 11/11/2020 20:23

Evening all, it sounds like you're doing well. Great milestone Heygirl. Awesome job Mono, i'll be made up if/when I get back to my lowest.
I'm rediscovering my love of baking and music and thankfully it all freezes well and I can weight and portion things to fit them into my calories.

DH and I managed to sew darts into two of his shirts at the weekend which is a shiny new skill for us. Thank you Youtube. Now we've got half a dozen more of his shirts to do then i'll look through my tops to see if we can rescue some favourites/newer/more expensive/good quality ones. I enjoy learning new skills. Unfortunately though, we're prioritising doing our tax returns this weekend first which is extremely aversive. DH always says it won't take long, a couple of hours, and it always, without fail takes 4-5 hours.

TheHoneyBadger · 11/11/2020 20:32

Fasted at work until this evening when I had baked chicken with a lot of green veg and a little rice.

Just had a bowl of pineapple and natural yogurt with a little granola and honey.

That should be it for today. Calorie burn target of 2100 met already.

Just need to stay away from the kitchen.

TheHoneyBadger · 11/11/2020 20:34

Definitely don't miss tax returns now I'm back to being a wage slave! Good luck

HeyGirlHeyBoy · 11/11/2020 21:38

Well done all. Dare I say I feel a change in the air for us...! Soup being made here, lentil, feta and roast veg (days old but smells perfect) salad ready for lunch tomorrow. Appointment for 45min walk made for tomorrow eve. Phew! Lining it up OK anyway. Night night all. I've come to see this as a thread of friends over the months Smile

Octopus37 · 12/11/2020 07:18

Well done on breaking into the 8s Heygirl. I dont mind marmite, I feel your pain re tax returns, although mine isn't usually that bad cause I dont have many expenses. Heygirl, know what you mean abut this thread becoming a thread of friends, cant believe it has been going since January. Hopefully things are on the turn, especially with a vaccine being on its way. I am doing quite well with my steps and water, junk not so well but I'm eating less overall, 9st0.75 this morning so was pleased with that

That's fab octopus.. Big change in a few days! I'm 8st 12.25 this AM so definitely tentatively feeling in the zone. Back to my basic targets today and another early night! Have a good day all.

TheHoneyBadger · 12/11/2020 07:33

13:12.8 today. Maybe the damage isn't as bad as I thought.
