Nourishing November

Right here's the new thread. Thought I would find a kind title as October has been a challenging month for so many and at the risk of sounding pessimistic, November is likely to be to. I'm starting at 9st2.75, my aim for the end of November is to get into the 8s.

What are you writing @HeyGirlHeyBoy?
I'm about to get on my stationary bike. I need some really distracting, entertaining things to watch on my ipad as I cycle. Preferably on Netflix or Amazon prime. Does anyone have any recommendations?

HeyGirlHeyBoy · 28/11/2020 08:33

I loved the Queen's Gambit. For something light Emily in Paris is lighter than light but fun and if you haven't watched Schitts Creek it's fantastic. I'm writing, or not writing as is the current situ, a report for my postgrad. Training all next weekend, tho I will hopefully get a run or a walk in while away.

HeyGirlHeyBoy · 28/11/2020 08:36

Oh well procrastinating on FB means I've spotted my dinner, squash risotto from local GYO cafe. Cos I'm worth it. Right better get typing!!

IDontMindMarmite · 28/11/2020 09:12

I've got one episode left of the Queen's Gambit! It's been a refreshing change from our staple fairly low quality crime dramas. Emily in Paris sounds like it could be just the ticket.

Thank you for the recommendations, now get to work! The sooner you churn it out, the sooner it'll be done with. I remember writing my thesis when aiming for 5,000 and 200 words felt painful. I don't envy you!

Monochrome4 · 28/11/2020 11:56

Hello all! I've been quiet the past week or two as I had lots of work on so decided to take a break from calorie counting. Fortunately I've maintained my weight which I'm very happy with, so now it's time for me to go back to boring calorie counting.

Welcome NellietheNumpty! Congratulations on the new job. Sounds really worthwhile and demanding. From a diet-perspective, it's great that it's physical and you're moving around.

Sorry you've been struggling HoneyBadger. I hope you've at least managed the staying sane bit. I don't have much advice re pearl barley. Stodgy is good as far as I'm concerned. When I've used it instead of a rice for a risotto it's been chewier and heavier than rice, which I like because then it feels more filling, but not everyone will have the same taste.

NellietheNumpty · 28/11/2020 19:32

Hello @HeyGirlHeyBoy and @Monochrome4. Thanks for making me welcome.
I am just working out what needs improving in my diet, I think nourishing November is a great title. We all need nourishing, writing and healing and just surviving.
I am not at work today but have picked up this afternoon snack habit which still needs a bit of thought.
B porridge and fruit
L veggie curry
Snack crumpet and a date
D scrambled egg and toast
This was ok but DH brought me a pecan bun as a ‘treat’ ! To be fair I haven’t mentioned that I am going to watch my calories yet. Also I wasn’t forced to eat it!!!! We don’t drink and he works Saturday so will usually pick up a treat on the way home to start our weekend.

Monochrome4 · 28/11/2020 19:42

@NellietheNumpty Are you counting calories? Doing that with an app is a good start. Just spend a few days observing where the calories add up helps you to work it out. I use one called Nutritionix Track which is free and I find very user-friendly. I'm very much a snacker and left to my own devices I will just graze all day, but if I log everything then it's easy to see how much I can have and when I need to stop.

NellietheNumpty · 28/11/2020 19:56

Thanks @Monochrome4.
That is a good tip. I haven’t decided quite what plan I need. I am naturally active both at work and out. I will log my calories for a few days to see what is happening. Sunday will be interesting as it is our only day together and DH is definitely a feeder!

IDontMindMarmite · 28/11/2020 20:48

When you've got an idea of what calories you're eating, have a look at the tdee calculator, it'll help you figure out if you're eating more calories than you've a hope of burning or how much you need to cut to lose.

Octopus37 · 29/11/2020 08:58

9st1.25 this morning, drank loads of water yesterday to get rid of pizza excess and managed 14,000 steps. Good luck with your writing Heygirl. Hope everyone has a good Sunday x

14:2.4 I was expecting worse to be honest and it's something of a relief. My Fitbit graph for the last 3 months just shows mostly maintenance from September then it starts going up in mid November.

I'm only about 4lbs above my lowest so hopefully I can get back on track. I'm wary of goals at the minute beyond staying sane but it would be great if I could get back to my low by Christmas so any weight I put on then isn't on top of this gain itms.

Not sure how realistic that is though but for a start I have to go back to my beer in the house ban.

Heartbeats0708 · 29/11/2020 15:34

I'd join you in the no beer in the house rule, HoneyBadger it really does knock me off course. I haven't been an angel this weekend but not too bad either.
Feeling incredibly bloated since I started watching the cals more, I think I need to increase my fluid intake and maybe think a bit more carefully about when I eat.

NellietheNumpty · 29/11/2020 18:45

Hi there. I have had a very indulgent day so not a good one calorie wise, although I haven’t eaten an evening meal.
Breakfast: toast and butter
Lunch: homemade burgers, egg and salad
Snack: Hot chocolate and marshmallows
I checked my TDEE 2010 and so to loose I need to aim for 1500 calories.

IDontMindMarmite · 29/11/2020 21:58

Sounds do-able Nellie?
I've enjoyed my eating weekend. Made some overnight oats for tomorrow and soup for lunch over the next week. I was feeling like a domestic goddess but then I screwed up a batch of cookies which was a greatly irritating waste of chocolate chips.

Octopus37 · 30/11/2020 07:21

9st2.25 this morning. I did aim to do better this month but know I haven't been in the right mindset.

Wish me luck. I am starting tomorrow.

IDontMindMarmite · 30/11/2020 21:29

Ooh yes, it's the end of the month. Christmas has come around so fast this year.
