Nourishing November

Right here's the new thread. Thought I would find a kind title as October has been a challenging month for so many and at the risk of sounding pessimistic, November is likely to be to. I'm starting at 9st2.75, my aim for the end of November is to get into the 8s.

Up a bit today cause of not enough steps yesterday, not eating well enough or god knows what, 9st2.25. Very glad its Friday as I'm sure we all are. Still feel a bit yuk today, but hope I'm on the way up. Hope everyone has a good day.

Same weight today despite eating Chinese food last night. Busy day at work fasted today should help get the junk food burnt off.

Monochrome4 · 06/11/2020 10:13

Morning all. Marmite I hope you feel better today. I hope whatever work situation it is resolves itself soon.
Lalanbaba it's tricky isn't it?

62.6 today which I'm happy with. I have a quiet day so I'll try to do plenty of exercise.

I'm going to have lots of work, starting the week after next, until the end of term. Can you hit me with your best packed lunches that are filling but not too calorific? Previously I've always made sandwiches but one round doesn't fill me up and two rounds is over 500 calories.

TheHoneyBadger · 06/11/2020 17:09

I've ordered pizza. Just too knackered to cook. Work is full on.

IDontMindMarmite · 06/11/2020 17:25

Hey everyone, hope you've all had a good day. I've continued to be annoyed all day but have put it to rest now. Trying to stay strong but those two restaurant meals seem to have weakened my resolve and i'm craving lots of sweet stuff and it's harder to resist than it was before unfortunately.

TheHoneyBadger · 06/11/2020 19:24

It'll pass marmite. Hang in there

HeyGirlHeyBoy · 06/11/2020 21:44

That's it marmite, it can throw you back down that path too easily.

My packed lunches for work are: ratatouille with hallloumi and salad, soup, salad leaves with beetroot and feta, broccoli, feta, tomatoes and toasted hazelnuts. Sometimes I make an omelette and reheat and it works fine.

First day in a while I'm under my 1440 cals. I just don't have the care at the moment but anyway today is in the bag. I did two low cal meals and could do what I wanted then.. Within reason. And that reaosn was a latte and a caramel slice after work. Grin

HeyGirlHeyBoy · 06/11/2020 21:57

By the way sounds so obvious, but when I'm in work or busy I have no cravings or even real hunger, it's the idle, relaxing times that get me... Pain.

HeyGirlHeyBoy · 07/11/2020 08:21

Morning all. No change from start of week for me. 9st. Not worried as I am still not getting the cals down and my care level is low so I'm going easy on myself. I'm hitting my water, my fruit and veg and overall, my steps. Unfortunately my two top step days are gone from me this week as I'm online for the next three days. Realistically might manage a run AM before I start but no hope on weekend with the dc and I'll be good for nothing by 6pm.
B: Strawberries, kiwi and Greek yoghurt, full fat latte
L: carrot and chickpea soup
D: whatever I'm given
Will snack on almonds and fruit if needed during the day. Enjoy your Saturdays!

Octopus37 · 07/11/2020 08:52

9st2.75 this morning. I'm writing off this week cause I haven't felt great. Marmite hope you are feeling better. Heygirl, it sounds as if you are still doing really well. Know what you mean about the care level, think its fair to say that its gone down the priority list for many of us at the moment. Two of my Sister's friends have tested positive for Covid, one is in hospital, her Son (my nephew) sat next to their daughter in a lesson at school last week, nephew has been in contact with my Dad albeit briefly and so it goes on. Anyway its Saturday, lets us hope for the best all round. My Jamaican friend has a lovely saying, where there's lemons you need to make lemonde.

Morning, thanks all. I'm feeling better, glad it's the weekend.
My friends parents have both tested positive for covid but are recuperating at home. I guess i'll have a cycle now and then take a trip to the garden centre for some last minute spring bulbs.

HeyGirlHeyBoy · 07/11/2020 14:16

My method today is low cal, high nutrient foods in big doses and then some indulgent stuff too. Going well but maybe over stuffed.

loveyouradvice · 07/11/2020 15:54

Loving the title - Nourishing November ... especially as the days get darker and colder, this feels great!!

May I join you?

13 stone 2 lbs and heading towards 11 stone 4 lbs... slowly!

I Have a small operation next week so focussed on very healthy eating for recovery, and lots of protein and veggies - and will be happy with losing a pound a week if I do, and NOT increasing weight

So for next three weeks, no exercise beyond walking and eating NOURISHING food alongside the rest of you - and what really helps me is Intermittent Fasting - I'm doing 8:16 mosts days and occasionally 10:14.... and eating a couple of tablespoons oat bran and a wee dash of linseed each day.

I've lost a stone and a half since the beginning of the first lockdown with lots of exercise - dancing and walking - and around 14,000 steps a day. And had the usual bit of yo-yo-ing in the middle with some emotional family events.

So looking forward to joining the rest of you while recognising I'm moving gently til Christmas.

And it'll help me to put my commitment in here - signing in at least once a week, and reporting weight loss (or gain... No.............!)

IDontMindMarmite · 07/11/2020 15:58

Welcome @loveyouradvice, congratulations on your loss to date! That's fantastic. I hope your op goes smoothly. It's such a PITA when you get into a good habit of exercise then something gets in the way. I'm nervous about Christmas, my restraint always goes out the window for far too long...

TheHoneyBadger · 07/11/2020 17:50

Hope they're ok marmite.

Unintentionally fasted today now wondering what to do about dinner. Wasted head space worrying about a work situation today and now feel a bit down and zapped of enthusiasm to sort out a healthy meal.

My mood and my food choices are definitely connected. I am not a keen cook anyway but if I'm down or overly tired the idea of deciding on and cooking a meal seems like a Herculean feat. Hence too frequent takeaways. This is a bit dramatic and navel gazing but I think it also connects to a feeling of not having been taken care of or nurtured as a child. Ordering food that has been cooked for me and doesn't require standing on my own in the kitchen preparing it feels like being taken care of somehow.

Many of my boyfriends and close friends were people who loved cooking for others and saw it as an act of love and I suspect that was due to not having felt nourished by others as a child. Maybe over thinking

HeyGirlHeyBoy · 07/11/2020 18:20

I hear you honey. Flowers

I'm disgusted that my few biccies have thrown my day by 400 cals Angry Isn't that mad. Every good choice feels destroyed. I should have just had one.. So now only 20p left for dinner.. Hmm after super healthy and low cal b&l and 300 cals worth of healthy fruit and nut snacks. Grrr..

Monochrome4 · 07/11/2020 19:24

Hello everyone. Marmite I'm glad you're feeling better today. Welcome loveyouradvice and well done for your great loss so far! HeyGirlHeyBoy biscuits are the worst aren't they? I don't know how they manage to pack so many calories into such a small space. And it's soooooo hard to have just one.

HoneyBadger interesting to hear about how food and emotions are connected for you. I think it's very common and important for all of us to understand how they're linked. That's so sad that you weren't nurtured as a child. :-( Another reminder for us all to be kind to ourselves.

I've not done too badly today. I nearly went into a downhill snacking spiral after dinner. I was feeling as though I'd blown it for today, and went into "fuck it" attitude and started raiding the kitchen. I managed to stop myself then came through and inputted dinner plus all the snacks into the calorie counting app, and I was surprised to find myself only 150 calories over for the day, which is fine as I went on a longer bike ride than usual. I think the moral of the story is to input food into the app before meals, rather than afterwards, so I know where I stand.

IDontMindMarmite · 08/11/2020 09:30

Badger, good bit of self reflection there. It is so easy to equate food with care. You know how they say if you feel hungry, have a glass of water first in case you're just thirsty? I wonder if you should have a hug first. Sorry if that's super cheesy. 🙈 I hope you know what I mean.

I'm happy because I'm down 1lb which is 1lb off my lowest and I'll be back to maintenance.

Octopus37 · 08/11/2020 09:34

Interesting to hear about your link between food and feeling nurtured HoneyBadger, I would echo what Heygirl says and be kind to yourself. 9st3 here today, really trying not to let it bring me down too much, cause I know its not really been a normal week, also I suspect yet another period could be on its way. Just going to try and get through my job list and drink lots of water. My body obviously isn't quite playing ball at the moment. Hoping I can up my steps this week and get back on track a bit. Hope everyone has a good Sunday

TheHoneyBadger · 08/11/2020 14:33

Weight back to the top end of my fluctuation bracket today. Unsurprisingly given the amount of takeaway this week.

Walking to my support bubble friends house for lunch soon.

Hope people don't mind me talking away on here even though I don't seem to be losing at the minute.

HeyGirlHeyBoy · 08/11/2020 16:21

Gosh no hb, sometimes that's the most important time to come on.

Idontmindmarmite so true, I had my coffee break there with dad instead of going for a biscuit and that human interaction meant I didn't give the junk another thought.. We are really missing that connection these days..

IDontMindMarmite · 08/11/2020 18:12

I'm not sure who posted the Mulligatawny recipe, but i've just made it for the first time and i'm crazy for the yoghurt/mango chutney sauce! It's fantastic! I'm trying to think what else I can have it with.

I'm also loving Tzatziki and am having it as a sort of salad dressing with steak tonight.

Octopus37 · 08/11/2020 18:44

Welcome Loveyouradvice, best of luck with your op HoneyBadger, do keep posting and talking, remember you're partly talking to the girl who hasn't lost any weight since March, was going to say in 6 months but realised its actually 8. I think it helps accountability and stops you totally giving up if you keep posting. Everything's so difficult right now, think we all need this virtual support system.

OP posts:
Lalanbaba · 08/11/2020 20:46

Evening everyone! @TheHoneyBadger please keep talking here, I find this to be a space where you can come and vent frustration away.
Been a busy weekend working. I'm so far packing my lunch rather than buying something at my break, I have to keep that up.
I will weigh myself tomorrow and see if I got loss/gain this week as I have upped my calories.

HeyGirlHeyBoy · 09/11/2020 09:38

Morning all. Got a walk in before I zoom this AM, glad of it, 6k steps done already. Soup on and just finished lovely breakfast. Longer walk tonight. Hope you're all well. No move on scales for me.
B: Greek yoghurt and berries
L: carrot and chickpea soup
D: chicken something, inspiration welcomed!
