Nourishing November

Right here's the new thread. Thought I would find a kind title as October has been a challenging month for so many and at the risk of sounding pessimistic, November is likely to be to. I'm starting at 9st2.75, my aim for the end of November is to get into the 8s.

My period is also just starting so hopefully it'll be a good few weeks before I'm an emotional mess again Wink

I'm really quite off track and unmotivated with my weight at the minute. Part of me really wants to get into it and lose more and the other part is well life is stressful enough and has enough things missing right now without putting further restrictions on food and drink.

I've literally spent a couple of months bouncing around in the same bracket. At least I haven't regained the weight I'd securely lost and hopefully that period of maintenance does properly 'bank' the lost 22lbs ish. But I really need to start losing again.

Sorry long waffle saying nothing! I'm thinking if absolute worst came to worst and I stayed this weight over the worst winter months hopefully spring would give the boost for losing the next 22lbs.

IDontMindMarmite · 12/11/2020 10:35

I think winter is the hardest time to lose weight Badger. If you can maintain until spring, maybe that would be no bad thing?

Octopus37 · 12/11/2020 13:36

Badger 22 pounds is amazing and maintenance in itself is hard, you have done so well to keep it off, especially when life has been so stressful.

Wowzers octopus that's fab, good on you. I am delighted with my steps this week despite all I have on and will hit the 10k today also. No move on scales but had late night healthy snack and TMI, no bm yesterday, v unusual for me. Happy Friday!

IDontMindMarmite · 13/11/2020 08:39

Hey hey, I'm back to my lowest low Grin. Back to maintenance calories.

TheHoneyBadger · 13/11/2020 08:48

Glad people are doing well despite November and lockdown (suspect losing weight doesn't get much harder!).

Scales say I'm up 3lbs again after junk food last night. I need one week where I'm consistent. Can't seem to manage that currently so just relieved I keep pulling it back in between. Yo-yo is better than exponential growth 📈

HeyGirlHeyBoy · 13/11/2020 13:32

Well done Idontmindmarmite!! HB I know exactly i know a really good week would sort me out!!

TheHoneyBadger · 13/11/2020 16:53

The only pleasure I can think of is ordering a takeaway. Really have no desire to cook after my day at work and only have marking to look forward to doing over the weekend before going back to work.

This month is hard.

IDontMindMarmite · 13/11/2020 16:59

I'm bloody freezing so a hot bath sounds like a treat too. I wish we could have takeaway but DH is holding firm on our freezer dive cottage pie. It's not even an easy meal, we still have to make it. It's just that we have frozen mash, beef, etc.

Le sigh.

TheHoneyBadger · 13/11/2020 17:03

Yes I'm freezing too which is making the kitchen even less appealing. Currently under blankets on the sofa.

HeyGirlHeyBoy · 13/11/2020 17:35

The cold is the calorie deficit!! Big yummy omelette with feta, mushrooms, peppers and onions going on here now. 10k steps, 2.5L water in and no junk.

HeyGirlHeyBoy · 13/11/2020 20:49

Isn't it funny the way some evenings you're sitting there, fighting or giving in to a craving/compulsion to self sabotage every minute and then there's other evenings where it's more like 'No chance tonight snacks/sugar, I'm not going near you!' I don't know if it's the exercise or a good mindset day but I'll take an easy one like that. 14k steps done and feet up.
B: berries and Greek yoghurt and coffee
L: chickpea and carrot soup, love this
D: 3egg omelette as above.
7F&V, 2.5L water, the water definitely really helps. I'm doing the Jordan Syatt thing of glass if water before and after each meal. Big weekly social walk tomorrow. Hope you're all having a lovely Friday. Enjoy the takeaway Honeybadger, know exactly what you mean about the need for it after a hard week. I'll have one tomorrow I'd say.

HeyGirlHeyBoy · 14/11/2020 08:23

Morning! 8st11.25, 2.5lb since start of week so 'not real gain' is as true as 'not real loss' which is reassuring. Dreadful sleep with disruptions from the 2 dc but off for walk in an hour. Hope you all have a relaxing Saturday, we deserve it!
B: berries, pineapple and Greek yoghurt
L: lentil, feta and roast veg salad
D: no idea
Goals: 2.5L water, 10k steps, no junk

Octopus37 · 14/11/2020 08:42

Big well done Heygirl, not great here, had Dominos yesterday so 9.2.75, but at least I know its Dominos bloat Finding it very hard to stay in good spirits at the moment, some of my work has been cut, my Dad is struggling to settle down cause of lockdown, Sister really stressed, just all a bit of a challenge with nothing to look forward to, but know how first world that sounds.

HeyGirlHeyBoy · 14/11/2020 08:56

Not at all, all that stuff is very heavy and is the kind of thing that weighs very much on your mind octopus especially if things become anyway strained between you all.. I have a lot of similar stuff going on tho my DF is at home. I listened to this last night in bed and it helped me drift off without all the noise in my brain getting in the way

IDontMindMarmite · 14/11/2020 09:31

God no that doesn't sound first world problems at all, you don't have to undermine yourself, your problems are legitimate.

I'm about to jump on my bike, Monochrome I'll thank you every time for making it so much better!

Monochrome4 · 14/11/2020 12:31

Marmite I'm so glad it's more comfy!

HeyGirl That's SO TRUE re evenings and variable motivation.

HoneyBadger I'm sorry it's so hard right now. We're here for you so hang in there.

61.7kg this morning so I'm happy.

Have a nice weekend everyone.

loveyouradvice · 14/11/2020 15:13

Great to read so many successes since I last posted... and huge empathy for those who find it tough to find any motivation to lose weight in this dark, autumn lockdown days.

I always think that KEEPING WEIGHT OFF is as big a success as losing it, if not more so, especially when I read all these horror stories about 85% of dieters putting the weight back on within a year. And that has been me... Yo yo dieter all my life and SO hoping that that's one of the things my daughter has learnt NOT to be from me.

Me today? 13 stone 1 lb. Looking forward to being 12.13 where I was a couple of weeks ago, but also happy to be here having had a tough time on the health front and proud to have eaten apple chocolate porridge to get me through the dark days, rather than crisps chocolate and ice cream as in days of yore! (Oops... bit of a fib that, I did have one indulgent ice cream day.... but then back to the chocolate porridge made with cocoa powder so in many ways rather healthy! Or so I tell myself)

IDontMindMarmite · 14/11/2020 15:28

Yes the statistics are disheartening. I'm hoping, that by dieters, they mean people who are on a restrictive plan like low carb, keto, atkins etc. rather than just reducing portion sizes so that you're not overeating anymore....I dunno, might be kidding myself there but it IS possible to keep the weight off but I guess it's about not dropping the diet - which is when people start talking about it being your lifestyle rather than a diet.

I've done the bastard tax return and rewarded myself with a peanut butter cookie that i made last weekend. Now i'm pinned to the sofa by cats which is the only thing stopping me making a fresh batch of cookies.

I'm back to my maintenance regime of 1500 on week days and 2000 on weekends but on days like today where I can't go to a restaurant and we're not having take away (DH still holding firm on that one), my main meals aren't drastically different so I doubt i'll eat past my weekday allowance. If I did it would be purely through bingeing snacks which I won't rule out but feels OTT.

@loveyouradvice, do you eat the Halo top reduced cal ice cream? I still have some mars ice creams in the freezer but I thought it was too cold for them now.

loveyouradvice · 14/11/2020 16:48

Yup Halo top - love the peanut butter one, and really sad they've discontinued Vanilla and Chocolate ones....

And Oppo, which I think is healthier (or is this just me inventing this?).... Adore their salted caramel and Chocolate/hazlenut.....

Job in a dream world where I stayed a svelte size 10? Ice cream taster and creator of new combos!!!! Or puddings/desserts in general..... mmmmmm

IDontMindMarmite · 14/11/2020 16:59

The Halo top choc chip cookie dough is good but they are lacking a good chocolate option really.
I've tried Oppo Chocolate hazlenut but it has a nasty aftertaste IMO.

In case anyone was wondering, don't bother with reduced calories cheese - it tastes literally of nothing.

Also, I think i've ruined cookie batter by using margarine. It's too runny. I've put it in the fridge in case it solidifies some but might end up baking them in ramekins...

HeyGirlHeyBoy · 14/11/2020 17:11

I always think of diets that don't work as actual quick fix diets like the old style egg or grapefruit diet or even the Michael Moseley 800 cal a day one. It's just not realistic whereas we are upping the healthy stuff and lowering the junk while trying to move also. That's lifestyle and habit stuff that will work over time once reasonably consistent.

HeyGirlHeyBoy · 14/11/2020 18:55

Highly recommend my dinner tonight, a heap of roast peppers, courgette, aubergine, tinned puy lentils and some feta. Absolutely delish. Night all. Will check in tomorrow. Run day for me tomorrow.
