Shorties trying to lose weight!

SwimmingOnEggshells · 29/09/2020 12:02

I started my fatbusting journey a couple of weeks ago and my plan is to document my progress here.

So far I've been doing a fair bit of cardio - 5 times per week - and I'm hoping this will help me get rid of some lbs. I posted a thread on AIBU looking for people's advice on only using exercise to lose weight but the general consensus is that no, I need to calorie restrict too. Boo! is what I say to that but maybe I need to face facts that I'm no longer a spring chicken and need to make a concerted effort with food too to shed anything!

Anyone want to join me?! @neverenoughchelseaboots

Current weight: 60kg/132lbs
Target: 50kg/110lbs
Height: 5'0 :(
Age: 39

That looks delicious.

I can't seem to master food presentation. I love cooking and I'm quite good at it (if I'm honest and not modest!) but when I serve up it looks like something you'd get from a school dinner-lady Confused

Hello, please can I join the shorties? I’m 5’3’’.

10 stone 10 on August 22
9 stone 12 on October 26

I’ve set myself a target of weighing 9 stone by Christmas, but really I’m much happier around 8.5 stone so will see how I get on!

I’ve been making my portions smaller, adding more salad/veg to my plate, and saying no to alcohol... I’ve also been running 4/5 times per week and trying to do yoga on rest days.

I’m 39 and breastfeeding my youngest who is 3.5 years old.

StripeyandConfused · 28/10/2020 18:09

I've put the 2lb on I lost last week

InFlagranteDerelicto · 28/10/2020 18:17

I’m in. I know I’m a bit late to join... better late than never though.

5’3” tall
Starting weight 11st 7lb
Goal weight 8st 7lb

I’m doing cardio when I can. I’m disabled with a fluctuating illness that causes severe pain but I do get days when I’m ok - even the odd week, straight after I’ve had treatment. Ok-ish the moment.

Am also trying to reduce portion size, eat more veg, less carbs, & generally less junk.

modernfemininity · 28/10/2020 18:34

Thank you for welcoming me. I am not resisting little snacks and nibbling in bits throughout the day! I think this will be the first week I put on in months.

This thread will be somewhere to turn to! Thank you! I look forward to reading about the small meals. Grin

SwimmingOnEggshells · 28/10/2020 22:14

Hello @alandaviesmrs and @InFlagranteDerelicto (great name!)

I think if we accept that some days we can't exercise or overeat a bit, it's not the end of the world. Having a take away on a Friday is ok, as long as you get back on it the next day. Consistency is key!

There's this fitness/diet guy I came across and he speaks so much sense. His name is Jordan Syatt and I think he's a shortie like us! Possibly 5'6 so I'm sure he's all too familiar with our struggles.

Well done @SwimmingOnEggshells I'm so glad you have managed to wean off! Exercising and eating well will definitely help your mood so keep it up!!

Welcome to the new joiners!

I'm at the 4 week mark and a bit of fatigue is setting in I must admit. And stress at home combined with pmt. I drank half a bottle of wine last night Sad and now I'm awake early feeling like crap and regretting it. I'm keeping up the exercise though, 60 min hiit classes 3x per week plus hilly dog walks. Sticking to my plan food wise. Total loss so far is 7lb. I am not going to beat myself up, just carry on the best I can.

I'll weigh in tomorrow.

Have a good day everyone!

InFlagranteDerelicto · 29/10/2020 10:20

Thanks @SwimmingOnEggshells Grin I'll look that Jordan Syatt up. Always interesting to get a new perspective.

Yesterday I got up late, had toast & marmite for breakfast, no lunch, did about 15 minutes cardio, then had quinoa with vegetables & low fat mince, & big salad for tea. Followed by 4 squares of chocolate, oops. And a papaya. I forgot to mention in my previous post, I'm 39.

Had toast & tea so far today, I didn't sleep well, & woken up by diggers right outside the window (we live on a building site at the moment) so I've no idea what I'm doing for the rest of the day yet. Maybe a looooong nap.

My DD is trying to get healthier too. She's only 8 but has developed a bit of a lockdown tummy, bless her. We've discussed eating less sweets & sweet food like ice cream, but we're not restricting anything else because she eats relatively healthily (apart from not wanting to try new things, argh). But she's doing the Switch ringfit almost every day & loving it.

caringcarer · 29/10/2020 10:28

I am 5 foot 1 but so overweight. At worse point during lockdown I ballooned to 125.2 but now gradually loosing it again. Now 117.6. My first target met. Next I want to get under 110 then under 100. I reward myself each time I meet s target. Last time I got a mobile pedicure. I'm not good at exercise and gym closed but I am walking more and 30 mins on excercise bike 2 X a week. I am going to push for 3 times a week after half term.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 29/10/2020 14:55

Oh god, you’re mostly a lot thinner than me. I really don’t want to either weigh myself or calorie count. I’m 5’2” and probably around 11 stone. I’m 37 so I ought to be able to lose.

I gave up refined sugar, takeaways and bread about 6 weeks ago and my jeans started fitting better, but in the last week or two the takeaways have been sneaking back in. I still haven’t had much sugar. My exercise has fallen off a cliff in the last 3 weeks since we got a puppy - she’s not allowed to go for walks until Mon, so hopefully that’ll change soon.

I’m going to knock the sugar and the takeaways on the head (again). I’m going to start walking puppy (20 mins to start with but increasing), and try to hit 10k steps (not necessarily with puppy). And I’m going to do the Metafit/BodyPump classes I’m paying for instead of ducking out with lame excuses. That’s twice a week, and I’m going to try to add in another couple of weights workouts if possible.

And I’m still too scared to weigh. I’ll weigh myself when my tight jeans go on comfortably and not before.

modernfemininity · 29/10/2020 15:54

@TooExtraImmatureCheddar You are right, being younger will help. It’s good to get leaner before you’re 40. It gave me the sense I wasn’t over the hill. I find weighing helps focus my mind, and as I said before, I like weighing in kg because the 100g intervals motivate me.

@caringcarer We are similar sizes but my ambitions are not as great. I would love to get down to 106lb or 48kg. For me that would be a loss of 7.5lbs or 3.5kg! Not easy when we are this small already.

Your target weight is lower than that and it would make me too skinny, even though I am very light boned. I will go wrinkly!

This week I am more new struggles with skipping snacks. Having teens with us for half term makes snack time a ‘thing’ and I have only a little willpower that says No to really bad things, like doughnuts, but it lets me get away with some extra bread or crisp snacks between meals.

Breakfast (which has been skipped For Months but today we ‘sat’ to breakfast!) was a tiny bit of porridge. Lunch was a huge corn on the cob. Snacks so far include a piece of buttered baguetteShock and a packet of Doritos (149kcal). What was I thinking? It was social eating - we all had a packet!

Dinner tonight will be chicken, sweet potato and spicy veg and a tiny end of bottle glass of wine.

SwimmingOnEggshells · 29/10/2020 16:33

We have a range of weights @TooExtraImmatureCheddar so don't be put off :)

Your changes all sound very manageable and easy to maintain. That's the main thing. If we restrict too much we'll be starving all the time and likely to binge.

Going ok here today, was a bit hangry before lunch as I'm kind of doing 18:6. Once I ate I was like a different person!

Food today:
2 x homemade skim cappuccinos
Bowl of soup
1 slice of toast
Chicken, rice and tarragon - this was supposed to be last night's dinner but I did the classic - leave it too late to prep - and then we had a Thai takeaway but I went for chicken instead of my usual duck and got a wok fried dish which is healthier. Still refusing to calorie count!

Currently writing this from my exercise bike - 50 min planned. Better sign off because I pootle along when I'm poking at my phone Grin

Hello my short friends - 9st 7.6 here today down from 9st 9.2 last week, which I am very pleased about. I started at 10st 2.8 in August so that is around 9lb down overall. I lost weight quicker at first but hit a plateau a couple of weeks ago. I just kept on going with less booze, fewer carbs and smaller portions and it seems to have worked this week. Next target is to get under 9st 7lb. Baby steps :) I don't really have a final target - I am 54 so got to balance slimmer body with keeping a bit of plumpness in the face!

neverenoughchelseaboots · 30/10/2020 09:07

@Morningmaeve Well done! Great result.

An unsurprising gain here this week. I've not been terribly bad but certainly aware of a small indiscretion most days that will be adding up.

25th Sep - 9st 10.8lbs / 28.7% body fat
2nd Oct - 9st 8.8lbs / 28.3% body fat
9th Oct - 9st 7.9lbs / 28.1% body fat
16th Oct - 9st 6.9lb / 27.8% body fat
23rd Oct - 9st 7.1lb / 27.8% body fat
30th Oct - 9st 8.8ln / 28.3% body fat

Week six and I've wiped out any progress and am set back to week 2 weight 😟 Let's hope that's the wake up call I need.

WhistlersandJugglers · 30/10/2020 09:36

Still 10stone for me so no weight loss. I stuck to 16:8 and exercised well all week so a bit disappointing. Getting under 10 stone does seem to be a major battle for me.
I do feel well and energetic so will stick with it into November. The next hurdle will be trying to ignore the Halloween treats.

Beroltheperil · 30/10/2020 11:04

@Morningmaeve that is so inspiring for me! I have the same starting weight and am same height. I have had a bad week and I need to refocus so you are really helping me with your success Smile

I gained 0.5lb. Last night I continued my off piste avalanche and ended up eating a load of chocolate and crisps as well as drinking wine. My new habits are clearly not ingrained are they Sad. I am really stressed at the moment and its pmt week. I just felt I needed a break from the plan, but it made me feel so rough !!!!!

modernfemininity · 30/10/2020 11:25

Well done on your weigh ins. Halo
Unfortunately I am 0.7kg up but I know what has done that, and anyway my weigh in is on Monday and I can change things before then. Today I am skipping breakfast as is usual, despite having a sit down family breakfast the other day. My first meal will be a late lunch.

@Morningmaeve says it right, I need to focus on:

less booze, fewer carbs and smaller portions

She is sooo right.

I also need to SKIP THE SNACKS!

I go further into Friday, better motivated to do the right thing! Wink

alandaviesmrs · 30/10/2020 11:46

2lb gain here - back to 10 stone! I am going to blame it on my period being imminent, and definitely not the rosemary and seasalt almonds I ate last night... first time I’ve snacked after tea in ages and I felt horrible in the night. Onwards and downwards!

MrsAvocet · 30/10/2020 12:04

Static for me. I seem to be stuck at 51.5kg give or take 100g - I've been here for a month. I am going to be super strict with myself this week. If I haven't lost anything by next week please tell me off in the strongest terms!
Keep going everyone. We can do it!

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 30/10/2020 17:20

I'm an official disaster. I haven't even weighed myself as I couldn't pull up my jeggings yesterday so I know I'm inflating by the day. I haven't stopped eating and drinking for a full week. Was much better yesterday and pretty good so far today. And I didn't buy any wine in the big shop earlier! So I'll be fed up but hopefully slimmer by the end of next week... Well done to all of you who have lost pounds. It's bloody hard work (I love my grub, and wine, too much) but I really need to sort my shit out asap!

neverenoughchelseaboots · 30/10/2020 18:47

Don't be disheartened @LifeInAHamsterWheel I think we've all had a tough week. (In fact @Morningmaeve I think you might be the only loser?! ) Maybe it's worth weighing yourself anyway because then you've got a higher number to co late against next week?

For me it's a bit like writing something almost done on your to-do list as a psychological boost. But you definitely know yourself better than me so don't do it if you think it would have the opposite effect!

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 30/10/2020 19:50

Thanks @neverenoughchelseaboots I'll do it in the morning and hopefully it will give me the kick-start I need!

SwimmingOnEggshells · 30/10/2020 21:00

I was too ashamed to post to say I went up to 134lbs a couple of weeks ago even though I started on 132...well I'm at 130 and 3/4 today so since starting the thread ive only lost a measly 1lb and a 1/4! Pathetic really but at least it's not a gain Confused.

I really do feel my clothes are less tight so that's a big plus. Will keep at it regardless, a 2lb loss a month is acceptable I suppose. Slower than I like but probably more sustainable long term.

Beroltheperil · 31/10/2020 06:47

The coronavirus situation and (now for all in the UK) impending lockdown, cancellation of all kids (and adults) activities one by one and general sense of doom and gloom is definitely having an impact on me, I haven't quite lost my mojo but it is getting there. I haven't seen my family since last Christmas, so much time with them has been lost and I feel so damn miserable. But the ironic thing is, being in the zone on my health plan actually helps my mood so I am going to dig deep today and make this my new day 1

Starting weight 136lb
Target weight by end of November: 132lb
Target weight by Christmas: 128lb

Anyone else digging deep to refocus? We can do it together!!!!

InFlagranteDerelicto · 31/10/2020 08:44

@TooExtraImmatureCheddar your numbers are pretty similar to mine TBH. Don't give up. How lovely to have a puppy, we're looking to get a dog next year after we've got the house sorted from moving - we can't put up shelves etc or board the loft yet as it's a new build, so there are still boxes everywhere.
