Shorties trying to lose weight!

I started my fatbusting journey a couple of weeks ago and my plan is to document my progress here.

So far I've been doing a fair bit of cardio - 5 times per week - and I'm hoping this will help me get rid of some lbs. I posted a thread on AIBU looking for people's advice on only using exercise to lose weight but the general consensus is that no, I need to calorie restrict too. Boo! is what I say to that but maybe I need to face facts that I'm no longer a spring chicken and need to make a concerted effort with food too to shed anything!

Anyone want to join me?! @neverenoughchelseaboots

Current weight: 60kg/132lbs
Target: 50kg/110lbs
Height: 5'0 :(

I did lose this week but I expect to stay the same at best for the next couple of weeks. I think the traditional pound a week weight loss that everyone talks about and expects is a stretch for us shorter people unfortunately. I keep reminding myself that slow and steady will win the day... but it can make it very hard to stay motivated when the numbers don't reflect the effort. Also, I think not letting a day/few days/week even off the plan derail the whole project has been important for me. Lockdown 2 talk is stressing me out but I know I am not going to go back to my lockdown 1 eating/drinking habits.

WhistlersandJugglers · 31/10/2020 10:26

I'm up for a refocus, @Beroltheperil. We've been in lockdown for about 10 days in Ireland. In the first lockdown I was totally miserable and went up to 147lb. I'm 140lb now and would like to be 136lb at the end of November, 133lb for Christmas.
It's not just for the weight loss I want to do this. I hope having an exercise plan and a goal will help me to feel more mentally positive than I did in the spring.

neverenoughchelseaboots · 31/10/2020 10:38

Me too @WhistlersandJugglers @Beroltheperil

I did another run on Friday, not far but 25 mins and I walked less that the other couple. I think posting in here really helps keep me accountable. So I'm going to commit to a good week and a loss on Friday.

Thanks as always for all the support - it really helps. x

InFlagranteDerelicto · 31/10/2020 18:49

I'm totally lacking in motivation today. Eaten about 4 chocolate digestives & am having soup for tea. From a carton.

WhistlersandJugglers · 31/10/2020 20:42

Everybody gets to be unmotivated on the day of a lockdown announcement, I think. I had Lidl pancakes for tea and I'm going to make myself a drink shortly.

SwimmingOnEggshells · 31/10/2020 21:02

A fell victim to Halloween junk and now I'm drinking wine. I managed an hour on the bike which might offset the damage Confused

Morning All
My fridge is stocked with good stuff
I'm doing an online hiit class this morning
It's almost exactly 8 weeks until Christmas, we could get half a stone off if we try hard!!

I'm not in the UK but I am with you in lockdown spirit. No lockdown here in Switzerland despite it being one of or maybe even THE worst country in Europe for case numbers. They have just opened ski season believe it or not, and taken loads of countries off their quarantine list ready to welcome tourists Shock

Meals planned today -
Snack: 0% greek yogurt, pre workout
Breakfast: Eggs on low carb toast
Lunch: Prawns and Cottage cheese salad with roasted peppers
Snack: low carb muffin made with oat flour
Dinner: Pork loin roast with loads of steamed green cabbage and small portion of roast sweet potato
NO ALCOHOL

Anyone else like to share their plan?

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 01/11/2020 11:09

Halloween totally derailed me yesterday (plus alcohol on Fri night meant I was ridiculously hungover yesterday). I will draw a line under it and start afresh!

Breakfast: Nigella’s oeufs en cocotte with 2 small slices of corn bread.
Lunch: homemade broccoli and Stilton soup
Dinner: Leftover roast lamb with Greek salad and tzatziki.

At least, that’s the plan!

Beroltheperil · 01/11/2020 12:15

@TooExtraImmatureCheddar I love your menu!!!

New month, new start!!

neverenoughchelseaboots · 01/11/2020 15:58

Keep the menus coming - they're helpful for meal inspiration.

Ottolenghi Pea za'atar and feta fritters are on the menu here tonight with salad and flatbread. They taste healthy (but lovely) so I hope they actually are!

Managed to get a weekend workout in today which never happens so hoping that makes a difference.

MrsAvocet · 01/11/2020 16:26

I'm doomed. My neighbours on one side have just given me a huge bag of apples off their tree and thise on the other side have brought us eggs from their chickens. There's an apple cake in the oven already.
Send me healthy suggestions to use up about a ton of cooking apples quickly pkease before I regain all my lost weight!Blush

neverenoughchelseaboots · 01/11/2020 18:44

I have no advice @MrsAvocet apart from I feel your dilemma. I'm desperate to defrost the freezer but it would involve actually eating the 4 tubs stewed apples that I made from allotment donations.

There's no better alternative to crumble or pie is there?!

Maybe have very small slices and rely on people around you to gobble it up quickly.

WhistlersandJugglers · 01/11/2020 19:19

Would you have stewed apple with seeds and Greek yogurt for breakfast? I often have stewed rhubarb for breakfast when it's in season.
You can make crumble a bit healthier with oats, seeds and less sugar than most recipes.
I have a picnic cooler box @neverenoughchelseaboots and I put stuff in there when I need to defrost the freezer. I just did mine and put in a few bags of frozen gooseberries and they stayed totally frozen. I'm meaning to make jam with them but it seems too much like hard work atm.

Beroltheperil · 01/11/2020 19:24

Here in Switz they do a lovely bircher muesli made like overnight oats, with oats, raisins, seeds, berries, yogurt and grated apple.

I would stew some up with stevia or combo of stevia and honey, maybe some cinnamon, add to natural yogurt for a breakfast or snack

Beroltheperil · 01/11/2020 19:26

And eggs... boil them in advance for the perfect protein snack, I a couple almost every day with sliced fresh tomatoes, a drizzle of olive oil and balsamic, salt and pepper. Keeps me going for a couple of hours if I'm lucky

neverenoughchelseaboots · 01/11/2020 20:29

That Bircher muesli sounds excellent - I m not that keen on yoghurt myself but the rest of the house are s I'm going to try it.

SwimmingOnEggshells · 01/11/2020 21:35

@MrsAvocet maybe pork with stewed apple sauce? Or juice them if you have a juicer?

@neverenoughchelseaboots is that from his Simple book? I vaguely remember seeing a fritter recipe but I haven't tried it. I have the cous cous recipe from Simple on my meal plan for Tuesday. It's insanely delicious. I'm going to have it with lemony chicken which is from the river cafe cookbook. I reckon the chicken has to be pretty healthy because all you do is marinade the chicken breast pieces in lemon, garlic and salt and then fry on a high heat on the pan with just a bit of oil. So yummy!

My food plan for tomorrow is:
Coffee
Soup, 1 slice toast
3 meatballs and pasta (homemade)

neverenoughchelseaboots · 01/11/2020 22:13

Yep, from the Simple book. I'll try the cous cous because I've only tried two recipes from it so far (both excellent actually).

MrsAvocet · 01/11/2020 22:36

Thanks all. I think I will have to stew a load tomorrow and freeze it. We have so many that I don't think I will get through them before they go off, and I can't stand waste! I will make waffles for everyone else tomorrow night and serve with apple sauce and cream. I'll just have the applesauce.....and maybe a teeny bit of cream...

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 01/11/2020 23:22

I once had pork with fried apple slices and onions - it was lush! Maybe try that for a slightly more savoury take?

modernfemininity · 02/11/2020 07:53

Yes apples and onions together is delicious; cooked first in the oven Or in a pan on its own and then and add raw pork loin atop and cook that all in the oven for 20mins. Wonderfully delicious. Makes the house smell wonderful.

TheDogsMother · 02/11/2020 08:10

Sorry I went missing for weigh in last week. I got to the right weight to fit into my dress for my wedding last Friday !! Got the wedding done just in the nick of time too. I've fallen off the wagon in spectacular style since then so I will be rejoining you all from tomorrow Grin

MrsAvocet · 02/11/2020 12:41

Congratulations TheDogsMother. Hope you had a wonderful day.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 02/11/2020 13:23

Congratulations, TheDogsMother!

Yesterday went quite well and I definitely look less bloated today. I did have to eat some oatcakes and cheese mid-afternoon to keep going, but at least I didn’t give in to all the Haribo in the house or to the open bottle of red wine.

Today’s food plan:
Breakfast: porridge with milk
Lunch: tuna Niçoise salad (no potatoes)
Dinner: fish pie
Loads of cups of tea!

InFlagranteDerelicto · 02/11/2020 19:44

Today I've mostly been in bed with a migraine. Feeling crap as most food tastes weird - I'm on medication which periodically makes my tastebuds go haywire. I went off tea for a couple of years (although I like it again now), I no longer have much of a sweet tooth, & the latest thing which started just a few weeks ago is that most foods with preservatives etc in, taste horribly of chemicals & just really artificial. Today I've had:
3 slices toast (GF toast - tiny slices & tastes like shit!) with different things on to see which was least vile. I'm not coeliac but fairly severely intolerant to wheat.
A sweet potato, baked as wedges, with salt & vinegar on.
Tin of peaches with some Greek yoghurt
2 cups decaf coffee with cream.

I think I'm going to bin the bread. It was vile, reminiscent of a cross between cardboard & polystyrene ceiling tiles, dry & crumbly, squeaky when bitten & slightly bitter aftertaste. DH thinks we should feed it to the ducks but I don't see why they should suffer.

I'm probably being a bit of a baby about it really. I've never been fussy, except about organ meat, (& I was made to eat that too,) I just ate what was put in front of me. Now everything tastes awful & I'm struggling. Is this how "fussy people" feel about food? It's horrible. Sad
