Shorties trying to lose weight!

I started my fatbusting journey a couple of weeks ago and my plan is to document my progress here.

So far I've been doing a fair bit of cardio - 5 times per week - and I'm hoping this will help me get rid of some lbs. I posted a thread on AIBU looking for people's advice on only using exercise to lose weight but the general consensus is that no, I need to calorie restrict too. Boo! is what I say to that but maybe I need to face facts that I'm no longer a spring chicken and need to make a concerted effort with food too to shed anything!

Anyone want to join me?! @neverenoughchelseaboots

Hello all. Nothing to report here as am STILL the same weight. Think I am going to cut out booze for a while and see if that gets the scales moving again...9st 3.4lb for the record. Aiming to get under 9st....eventually Grin

Knittingnanny · 12/03/2021 14:12

Afternoon to you all. I’ve just taken delivery of a posh afternoon tea for 2 from my Singapore son and wife so told husband it’s a no cook day, we will eat the lovely tea party food instead. The whole caboodle including posh chocolates.
This is from a boy who until he had children of his own barely remembered my birthday let alone Mother’s Day! I suspect my lovely daughter in law had a big input!

Knittingnanny · 12/03/2021 14:13

So obviously no calorie counting or weighing for a few days!

Knittingnanny · 12/03/2021 14:14

Ps well done for the neck care! You will be grateful for the effort in 20/30 years time.

WellTidy · 12/03/2021 17:57

modern I invested in three sets of M&S loungewear over lockdown, and it’s absolutely all I wear now. I even wear it when I go for my walks, as I also wear a parka type coat, and nobody would be able to tell the difference between loungewear bottoms and jogger bottoms. They’ve been the best investment ever. And I am so happy in them! It’s either loungewear or pyjamas in thee evenings round here right now.

Fed nobody has noticed my weight loss either. I can’t be critical of them as I can barely see any change myself. I am a stone and nearly four pounds down and I swear I still look the same! I didn’t dare do any measurements before I started, so I can’t know for sure, but that’s my honest take on it. I did measure my waist a few. Ishtar ago and I measure 35 inches, which I am horrified about, as that is in the dangerous territory for health risks. So if I have lost any weight off my middle, I dread to think what my measurement would have been before. Crikey.

knitting I think if you every morning when I do my neck! It’s never got so much attention!

Knittingnanny · 12/03/2021 19:05

Well tidy, I’m proud of you, you will still be beautiful when you reach your 60’s! I was a Boots Saturday girl in the early 70’s and learned so much from the full time ladies, neck care being one of their favourite tips. So I feel obliged to pass it on.
The afternoon high tea delivered this morning was delicious, I need to find the recipe for the Jaffa cake cake. I’m sure I didn’t eat as much as I would have done this time last year when I was a stone heavier. Maybe my stomach is shrinking at last.
Mums who are actively parenting, give yourselves the weekend off calorie counting and eat everything you are offered and start again on Monday or Tuesday.
I might have one day a week as afternoon tea no cooked dinner day. I think I would look forward to it all week.
Managed to keep it hidden from 3 year old granddaughter this afternoon but she heard me telling mummy and put on her starved child face and rubbed her tum. Fortunately she was happy with a mr Kipling angel slice.
Enjoy your weekend everyone.

WellTidy · 13/03/2021 17:17

Knotting I’m 45yo, so I think much of the damage has already been done to be honest, but anything that helps even a little is very welcome! So my neck continues to receive daily attention.

Dc1 made a Mothers Day weekend cake (chocolate sandwich with Oreo buttercream and mini Oreos) so I’ve had some today and will have some tomorrow too. Really lovely.

I am, bafflingly, 9st 10lb on the nose. It must be the daily walking, and I know that this is the ween in my cycle when I lose the most (some weeks I struggle to lose anything at all overall). I need to go again tomorrow to go every day this week, which is what I said I’d do at the start of the week. Will take Dc1 with me. I think I have an outside chance now of getting to 9st 7lb for Easter.

WellTidy · 13/03/2021 17:18

Knitting!!

WellTidy · 13/03/2021 17:19

Cream tea sounds absolutely amazing and absolutely 100% something to just enjoy.

Knittingnanny · 13/03/2021 18:12

Finished it off today, so will get back on the weight loss wagon tomorrow.

FedNlanders · 13/03/2021 18:16

Oh cream tea sounds wonderful. I've not been great lately. Too scared to weigh but going to face the music tomorrow!

WellTidy · 15/03/2021 14:28

I seem to be cross about my weight every Monday morning. After 9st 10lb on the nose on Saturday and Sunday morning, I am 9st 10.5lb today. I am so cross! I walked between 25 and 30 miles last week and stayed at 1000-1200 calories all week. I thought I would see a huge drop, but I am only one pound lighter than I was 8 days ago.

Am I being too ambitious in aiming for more than 1lb a week, now that I have one stone to lose to have a BMI of 23? It seems that I’m not eating huge amounts and am exercising more than I have in years. Clearly have to make changes and am really really hoping to avoid dropping carbs as I live for sourdough toast, hot cross buns and bagels.

FedNlanders · 15/03/2021 14:41

Mine went back up a 1lb. I probably deserved it but im so mad about it.

WellTidy · 15/03/2021 15:13

It’s tough isn’t it. And I’m finding it so breathtakingly dull too.

Knittingnanny · 15/03/2021 15:20

It’s so boring. I think maybe aim for 1/2 lb a week or ten days. I’ve extended my goal to end of April as I’m in such a rut at the moment
1/2 lb every two weeks now will be a success for me!

SwimmingOnEggshells · 15/03/2021 16:11

I rarely lose a lb in a week @WellTidy, 1/2 a lb seems to be the norm. As long as the general trend is down you're doing ok :).

This is a brilliant video on fluctuations, I always re-watch it when I start to waiver: He talks so much sense.

And I've just realised we're nearly at 1000 posts, I can't believe it! Would anyone like to take the mantle and start another thread for us littlies?

Thank you all. I am feeling a bit low today as I feel that I’ve done as much as I could last week with the exercise and the calorie counting and still wanting to have the cake that Dc1 made for Mother’s Day so juggling calories and whatnot.

And I feel that I deserved more than a pound off! Smile But maybe I need to lower my expectations and formulate a more sustainable plan. I have lost 1stone 3lbs and really, really want to lose another stone. I’d feel more comfortable in my clothes, and far more myself, I think. It’s a strong motivator for me and I want to keep at it.

I will watch the YouTube video on fluctuations tonight, thank you for sharing it, I am really touched.

Tomorrow is another day!

modernfemininity · 15/03/2021 18:06

Dear @WellTidy, I agree with @SwimmingOnEggshells that weight loss slows and -1/2 pound lost steadily is okay going for a shortie.

I was supposed to be maintaining but I failed and have gained over 3kg. I relapsed into eating everything including chocolate and cake.

My head wasn’t in the zone.

I am now back in the room. Timeframe for me - til the school Easter hols. 3 weeks.

Lower carb eating and doing 16:8 combined with the 5:2 and then relearning how to Do Maintenance (it’s hard).

FedNlanders · 15/03/2021 18:12

That video is amazing! Thank you!

neverenoughchelseaboots · 15/03/2021 18:23

I've made a new thread but can't copy the link because of a buggy app. I'll paste from laptop shortly.

TheDogsMother · 26/03/2021 13:48

One lb off and aiming for perhaps 2 or 3 ibs more. What used to be ideal weight years ago can leave me looking a bit gaunt. Generally though it's a real struggle to keep weight down post menopause.

Angliski · 04/04/2021 09:27

@PusheenLove I really enjoyed that book- worked for me for a while too- will re read. Thanks for the reminder
