Shorties trying to lose weight!

SwimmingOnEggshells · 29/09/2020 12:02

I started my fatbusting journey a couple of weeks ago and my plan is to document my progress here.

So far I've been doing a fair bit of cardio - 5 times per week - and I'm hoping this will help me get rid of some lbs. I posted a thread on AIBU looking for people's advice on only using exercise to lose weight but the general consensus is that no, I need to calorie restrict too. Boo! is what I say to that but maybe I need to face facts that I'm no longer a spring chicken and need to make a concerted effort with food too to shed anything!

Anyone want to join me?! @neverenoughchelseaboots

I’ve got my first Covid jab later today so using that as an excuse for not filling in my food diary today as husband has already planned to come back from the vaccination centre via the drive through Mac Donald’s!
I’m going for a walk with son no 3 first through. A bracing stomp along the shingle beach with a 15 mph wind which must surely burn extra calories?

Knittingnanny · 05/03/2021 11:29

I don’t think I will be choosing the McDonald’s salad with plain chicken strips!

FedNlanders · 05/03/2021 11:52

Good luck @Knittingnanny

Scales said 11.8 this morning which is down from 12 at start of week but then I had a diabolical morning and had pringles by 10am....so now trying to rein it in instead of giving up on today.

FedNlanders · 05/03/2021 11:52

9st 11.8

SwimmingOnEggshells · 05/03/2021 13:53

Thanks everyone, yes I am very pleased :) I just had a look at my OP - so it's taken me just over 5 months to lose 10lbs. I certainly won't be winning any biggest loser awards anytime soon!

Morning all

Just trying to catch up with the thread because I don't want to fall off the wagon completely after what has been a terrible month. Well done on the losses, welcome to the new people and good luck! I need to start from scratch here. I'm back up to 10 stone after having covid and now because of my lungs and fatigue I can't do cardio exercise. I was doing 3x hiit classes a week before and I am turning to jelly now Sad

But the things that having this awful virus has taught me (and watching my poor DD go through it too) are patience, calm and above all positive mindset. The mind and body are inseparable. I can't cut calories as such because my body is still really busy recovering, but I can make healthy choices. The nausea has mostly subsided so I can put the carbs back down!

Today is a beautiful sunny day. Right now from my bedroom I can see the hospital where I went around day 10 of the virus and was discharged without needing oxygen. I'm so bloody thankful to be one of the lucky ones and I intend to make the most of what I have.

Happy weekend all!!

Knittingnanny · 07/03/2021 14:13

My scales say I’ve put on 2lb this week so ignoring them and not recording anything til next weekend , this is so hard isn’t it

WellTidy · 08/03/2021 08:41

I was down to 9st 11.5lb yesterday, but back up to 9st 12lb today. Damn. The perils of daily weighing. So essentially I’ve stayed the same for a week. I’ve had slip ups, but haven’t been awful. Oh well, back to it.

This is really hard, I agree! Much harder to lose it than it was to gain it! Smile

FedNlanders · 08/03/2021 08:58

Exact same...im back to 9lb 12 which feels like a bit of a bummer really.

modernfemininity · 08/03/2021 10:08

Aaagh @Beroltheperil !!! You poor love. You with the covid; it must have been so worrying..Especially being admitted to hospital and your daughter succumbing too. I am pleased for you that you have come to a place now where you feel lucky, despite still being unwell with symptoms. I have heard the nausea can be really bad. I really would not want this horrid virus.

You come across as clever and wise, and know you need to refocus on health and not just your weight and you cannot cut calories. So a side affect wasn’t weight loss? That would have been a silver lining. I am not weight-loss obsessed..it’s just this is a weight loss thread.
How did you arrange getting food at home? I might find that I am not brought much food if it was me. Mind you, no one moves much when ill, so we don’t need so much food. I think only the men who end up in a coma, lose weight with covid. My son (in his own flat) had covid and lost a little, but put on more weight in recovery, ending up a higher weight and significantly less fit (poor chap). He couldn’t move much due to fatigue and so ate more whilst sitting about. Again, this was not our family focus, it’s just this thread. We were very worried for our boy’s health for a while. His weight situation was inconsequential to us, but I am just letting you know how it went.

Your words there @Berol are quite profound and thank you for the insight you have given us into having the virus. Sending warmest wishes and thank you for the update.Flowers

(Whilst posting, thank you @RainbowCookie for reminding me, I have bought a butternut squash. Also got the most expensive corgettes on the planet at £1 each one in Sainsbury’s haha Shock). Smile

SwimmingOnEggshells · 08/03/2021 10:55

@Beroltheperil how are you after the weekend? I wouldn't worry about weight loss at the moment, getting over covid has to be a priority. Flowers

I had such a bad weekend, it's like the bit of weight-loss gave me the green light to go mad - take away, pizza, chocolate, crisps. @WellTidy I'm also a daily weigher and the excesses of the weekend have me up 1.5lbs. I'll have to work hard now over the next few days if I hope to see any difference on Friday. Daily weighing in a must for me, if I'm avoiding the scales it generally means I'm gaining weight.

WellTidy · 09/03/2021 18:55

Down to 9st 11.75lb today which is a baby step in the right direction. I’m walking daily and staying under 1000 calories a day this week. I’m also buying sushi. My fitness pal is inconsistent with how many calories it has, but I’m estimating that an M&S pack of five pieces of salmon nigiri sushi with soy sauce is 400cals. That is a quite filling dinner for me, so I’m giving it a go.

Swimming I also had takeaway pizza (three slices) and pudding twice over the weekend. Which is not a patch on what my DH ate, we did the same amount of exercise, and yet he didn’t gain any weight at all. It’s really unfair!

WellTidy · 10/03/2021 09:28

Amazed - Down 0.75lb in a day, so I am now 9st 11lb. I am very happy! I walked four miles on Monday, and six yesterday, which I think is what is making the difference. Maybe it is kickstarting my body! I am aiming to do the same each day this week and will see where I am at the end of it. Really, really hoping for 9st 7lb by Easter, and have chosen my egg already! Hope DH doesn't mind being given some direction!

lockdownrainbow · 10/03/2021 16:17

Hi all DaffodilDaffodilDaffodil

I weigh daily too go up and down in lbs !!
I have been on slimfast shakes for 5 weeks have one for breakfast and one for lunch
Lost 4lbs in first been stuck at same weight since

SwimmingOnEggshells · 11/03/2021 09:16

Hi everyone, how are you getting on?

@WellTidy fab you're seeing some results, with all that walking you'll definitely lose :)

@lockdownrainbow wow you're seeing great results, plateaus are normal, don't fret. You'll probably get a loss again in a week.

So after the excesses of last weekend, I went from 8st10 on Friday to 8st 12.5lbs on Monday, all week I've been working hard and I'm still not back to last Friday's weight, eeek! Almost there though at 8st10 and 1/4.

But even though I went overboard last weekend, I don't think it's possible for me to have gained 2lbs - that's 7000 calories and I definitely didn't eat that. I think the weight gain is more a case of food hanging around my gut more than anything else! (Sorry if TMI)

WellTidy · 11/03/2021 10:44

lockdown- you’re absolutely due a whoosh. It will be great when it comes!

swimming it will all come off. All ready for next weekend! (Just teasing, you’ve done absolutely brilliantly, and I am really inspired by how you’ve done it)

I am down by 0.25 of a lb, to 9st 10.75lb. I am loving seeing the 10lb on the scale. Ridiculously, I am celebrating with a filled Krispy Kreme donut. Absolutely ridiculous. But I have walked 7 miles today and I’m hoping it is enough to maybe burn two thirds of that off, and I will just see three other third as a poor choice small snack.

I have a mini aim - to be 9st 7lb by Easter, and I’m not sure I’m going to make it. Well, I definitely won’t if I keep eating Krispy Kremes, but I might if I walk distances. Hmmmmm.

purplegirl13 · 11/03/2021 20:03

Hi all, I am struggling to get back on track, when my mum was in hospital I barely ate and since she was released a few weeks ago I have been eating everything in sight. I think all the stress has triggered a need for comfort in order for me to decompress.

I just don't know how to get to get back into the frame of mind needed but I figure posting here is a start! I have now got back to where I was at the start of the year at 10st 8-9lbs so I'm feeling disappointed in myself and in turn want to comfort eat

My plan is to try and roughly meal plan and reduce carbs. When I wasn't eating much, and then restarted all I could manage was a slice of toast and since then it's been pasta and bread so I think reducing carbs is needed. Groceries are arriving tomorrow with some fresh salad and fruit, which I am craving so it's definitely been lacking in my diet.

I hope you are all doing ok x

WellTidy · 12/03/2021 08:07

I must have been very good in a past life, because I am down to 9st 10.25lb today. Despite the Krispy Kreme donut yesterday! I am really chuffed. The walking must be what is making the difference - I think it is kick starting my body after not doing it for a few weeks. So I am doing another seven miles today and will hope for the best. I’ve noticed that this week in my cycle is the week that I always lose the most, so I am trying to maximise my opportunity!

I understand what you’re saying purple, I really do. I lost a stone this time last year and kept it off during a very stressful lockdown 1.0 indeed, and then as things eased up a bit I let go and ended up putting it all back on. I think the end of the super high stress period just made me reach for everything in sight.

neverenoughchelseaboots · 12/03/2021 08:47

Well done @WellTidy and everyone else who's inching their way down the lbs.

@Beroltheperil and @purplegirl13 it sounds like you've both been through the mill and I'm glad to hear you're out the other side. It's bound to be a gradual return to normal.

That is so obvious advice to someone else - but I'm struggling to listen to it myself. I've been completely wiped out by whatever this cough was (not covid but if it wasn't for the negative tests I'd have been convinced it was.)

I started to feel better yesterday, like me with a cough, rather than running on empty. But now I'm feeling down that having been so sedentary for two weeks I've lost progress on that very small, but gradual, downtick of weight. I'm still just under 9 stone but I was about to see a 9st 10.something a couple of weeks ago. And I know that's a month to get back.

Anyway, I'll stop feeling sorry for myself and try and get moving again. I've got a big batch of really delicious homemade parsnip soup for lunch, so that should be comforting and healthy.

Beroltheperil · 12/03/2021 09:09

Hello @modernfemininity thanks for the good wishes. I did lose weight at first but then I very quickly gained as I tried to relieve the nausea with sugar and comfort food. @SwimmingOnEggshells I had a difficult few days after the weekend with my daughter not being able to cope with school and with my own symptoms but now, by friday, things are looking up! The steroids the doctor gave me have really helped and feel a lot more like my normal self!!! Such a relief. @purplegirl13 sorry about your mum, that is such a worrying thing with being in hospital and blood clots. No wonder you began eating with a vengeance. It sounds like we are similar in our need to let things settle down emotionally and then pick up the weight loss at the right time. I'm almost there I think! I also am craving healthy eating now.

purplegirl13 · 12/03/2021 09:12

@WellTidy @neverenoughchelseaboots thank you for your lovely words. I think coming back on here will keep me accountable and I need to accept I've fallen off the wagon but that wasn't surprising. It was a traumatic few weeks.
I need to draw a line over it and start afresh.

Well done @WellTidy good job on the walking and the weight loss (even if you are now making me want a doughnut :) )

@neverenoughchelseaboots I'm glad to hear you are feeling better. Life will occasionally throw us these blips - the key is to get back on track. Definitely start moving again once you feel well enough to.

Today:
L - Black bean soup from the freezer, with some rye bread
D - was going to be salad but I think it'll be veggie sausages, mash and beans. It is a gloomy day and I need something warming

I weighed in at 10st 8.8 this morning

purplegirl13 · 12/03/2021 09:17

@Beroltheperil thank you, I think the difficulty is the more we comfort eat, the more we crave it and there's that vicious cycle!

I have a few weeks of catching up on posts to do, but I hope you are ok. Depending on the steroids prescribed (and dose) be aware some can cause an increased appetite

FedNlanders · 12/03/2021 10:04

Well done everyone. I was 9st 11 on Wednesday, so just 1b to get my stone lost this year....I honestly look exactly the same!

modernfemininity · 12/03/2021 11:27

@FedNlanders Well done!!! For your own sake to have to achieve that last 1lb just to say you dit it!
You are the same as me - no one notices my weight loss; it is fairly subtle, but I feel better.

This thread is so good for us - a community of Shorties!

Can I fess up to y’all that I have become a bit scruffier in this lockdown. No one ever visits, I don’t see people.. I don’t always do my hair nicely, not often wear makeup (but I do put face cream on and ON MY NECK @Knittingnanny) and have even taking to wearing and rewearing my joggers.

SwimmingOnEggshells · 12/03/2021 11:44

@FedNlanders - high diddley ho! 1 stone, that's brilliant.

No dice for me this week - up 1/4 of a lb, so at 8 stone 10lbs and 1/4.

Glad to hear you're feeling better @Beroltheperil, steroids are flipping amazing.

@purplegirl13 welcome back :)
