Shorties trying to lose weight!

SwimmingOnEggshells · 29/09/2020 12:02

I started my fatbusting journey a couple of weeks ago and my plan is to document my progress here.

So far I've been doing a fair bit of cardio - 5 times per week - and I'm hoping this will help me get rid of some lbs. I posted a thread on AIBU looking for people's advice on only using exercise to lose weight but the general consensus is that no, I need to calorie restrict too. Boo! is what I say to that but maybe I need to face facts that I'm no longer a spring chicken and need to make a concerted effort with food too to shed anything!

Anyone want to join me?! @neverenoughchelseaboots

Current weight: 60kg/132lbs
Target: 50kg/110lbs

I also have a three year old DD @neverenoughchelseaboots. Having small kids makes it so hard to exercise! Sounds like you did a fair bit last night. Burpees are the work of the devil!

1lb off. 5 to go ideally but I would settle for 4 and I have 4 weeks to do it in.

neverenoughchelseaboots · 02/10/2020 07:54

Well done @TheDogsMother!

25th Sep - 9st 10.8lbs 28.7% body fat
Today - 9st 8.8lbs 28.3% body fat

I'm torn between absolutely made up and slightly sceptical. I had a cheeky extra stand on the scales yesterday and was 9st 9.6lbs. But it's the friday one that counts right?!

TheDogsMother · 02/10/2020 08:16

Great work @neverenoughchelseaboots ! I think mine is going to be slow progress

Beroltheperil · 02/10/2020 08:22

Well done @TheDogsMother and @neverenoughchelseaboots.

1lb off here too in just a few days
Its water at this stage I suppose but I'm glad it's moving. Last night I had a major wobble, I guess because of the drastic reduction in sugar, but i stayed strong. I'm so glad I did, feeling much better this morning.

Happy Friday everyone! Stay strong over the weekend!!

WhistlersandJugglers · 02/10/2020 08:38

Hi, can I join too?
I'm also 5'2" and 142lbs.
I did 16:8 mid lockdown and went from 148 to 142. But now I'm stalled, exercising but not being careful enough with food.
My first goal would be to get to 137lb in October.

cathyandclare · 02/10/2020 09:44

Great work @Beroltheperil, @TheDogsMother and @neverenoughchelseaboots. Day zero here for me, was slightly lighter than I expected this morning but out for dinner tonight, will be sensible and not succumb to the temptation to have a final fling!! I'll make an 'official measurement tomorrow.

Fridge is primed and ready and I feel motivated for the first time since lockdown. Thanks everyone!

SwimmingOnEggshells · 02/10/2020 11:19

Down 1 lb! Woo. Now at 131, which is a BMI of 25.5. Still overweight but it's progress so I'll take it. Well done everyone on your progress and motivation. Let's hope we make smart choices this weekend!

Welcome @WhistlersandJugglers, 6lbs is great progress so far. Do you find it harder to do 16:8 when you're exercising?

OP posts:
WhistlersandJugglers · 02/10/2020 12:51

My brain doesn't seem to be able to focus on both exercise and the 16:8 at the same time. I seem to be doing well at either one or the other but never getting it all working together.
I read your other thread with great interest. I wish I could lose weight through exercise alone but it seems that only dieting works for me. I'm late 40s so I know it's an age thing. I find the 16:8 OK when I'm in the right frame of mind but know I couldn't low carb. I wish I was taller, every lb shows at this height.

SwimmingOnEggshells · 02/10/2020 14:18

"I wish I was taller, every lb shows at this height." @WhistlersandJugglers

It's a bitch isn't it? The only thing is that it works the other way too. A few lbs lost can make a big difference on me.

I'm hoping I can get back to that thread in a few weeks and update on my exercise only approach Grin. That being said I'm eating sensibly and not overindulging. I just refuse to count calories, I can't bear it!

What a good list of good results. Well done everybody. Smile

cathyandclare · 04/10/2020 09:13

I also can't bear counting calories, it's soul destroying and makes me get all bingey. I stayed sensible on my night out, it was a tasting menu and super-light and low on carbs so not too disastrous.

Weigh in was not as bad as feared. I'd like to lose 10lb for Xmas. I start to feel OK ( the stage where I can put on any clothes instead of flicking hopelessly through my wardrobe for 'slimming' things) when I'm 8 stone 9, so hoping to shed the first 6lb quickly.

wowfudge · 04/10/2020 09:21

If you still refuse to count calories you're going to need a hell of a lot of exercise to lost 10kg. You only need to lose around 3kg to have a healthy BMI. Try adding weight training into your exercise regime.

wowfudge · 04/10/2020 09:21

Lose not lost

Beroltheperil · 05/10/2020 07:12

Good morning shorties, how was the weekend? Mine was 95% on track but I veered off slightly yesterday. Its bloody tough going when you're burning fat isn't it. It has made me SO determined I will not regain weight once I'm done with this. I have got to continue the changes to habits and outlook long term.

What habits are you all trying to change?
Me.... drinking wine, beer, gin and then bingeing on junk food. I used to just do the drinking but recently I have been cramming chocolate and crisps secretly. I have put it down to stress, and to trying to do the fast 800 repeatedly...ending up in a restricting then bingeing cycle. Btw I don't know how to spell bingeing Grin

New habits I'm trying to put in:
Herbal tea and berries with yogurt or some other acceptable treat in the evening
Starting a strength training program to sort out my chronic musculoskeletal issues, this is long overdue

I'd love to hear what you are all trying to do, it will help me to feel less alone in this!! I heard it takes 6 to 8 weeks to embed new habits!!

neverenoughchelseaboots · 05/10/2020 08:46

Morning @Beroltheperil

They sound like good habits to create.

I'm pretty similar re the wine and snacks. We got into a habit of having a cheese board or crisps in the evening. But I think we've naturally stopped doing that over the last 3weeks without consciously trying.

Last night I had one glass of wine and instead of sitting drinking and chatting, had an hour long bath with a book which was lush.

My habits to change are to have healthier lunches so I can still eat whatever I want for dinner - so lacking in inspiration though!

cathyandclare · 05/10/2020 11:09

I am trying to have 3 meals a day and stop any food after 8pm. I've got into bad habits of constant grazing cold meats, cheese and nuts in the day and only a proper meal in the evening. Weirdly I nearly always lose weight on holiday ( fat chance of that now) maybe because I stick to regular meals.

I'm also strictly low-carb with NO nuts and protein-bars.

Beroltheperil · 05/10/2020 20:14

@neverenoughchelseaboots well done for stopping at 1 glass of wine and getting into the bath! I think doing something different helps rather than sitting watching tv or chatting, minus the wine or cheese or whatever.

@cathyandclare that's a good idea re lunch, especially if you, like me, have hardly any energy in the evening to mess about with complicated meals. Hows the low carb going? My plan is fairly low carb but unfortunately there is no cheese (or lactose generally) for the first 3 weeks, plus fat is limited so I'm relying on protein and plenty of veggies to fill me up. It's not easy!!

@neverenoughchelseaboots

I mixed your posts up, sorry! Clearly this dieting is messing with my brain Confused

I’ve tried everything. Concluded I’ll never lose weight. Sad

WellTidy · 05/10/2020 20:32

I’m in. Something needs to be done so I’m going to take this opportunity.

Current weight - 152lb (heaviest I’ve ever been when not pregnant, possibly even when pregnant)

Target weight - 120lb, which is (for my reference!) 8st 8lb

I’d like to have lost a stone by the end of November, and ideally a bit more before Christmas so that I have a bit of a buffer before getting back on it in the new year.

I know what I have to do. Fewer carbs, more salad and veg, fewer snacks and fewer mochas/hot chocolates. I’ve done it before and I can do it again!

WellTidy · 05/10/2020 20:33

I’m 5 foot 1.

neverenoughchelseaboots · 05/10/2020 20:43

Hey @RaskolnikovsGarret and @WellTidy 👋

Hope everyone has had a good start to the week. Just said no to cake and wine and have done 20 mins on the stepper - unheard of!

MrsAvocet · 05/10/2020 20:58

Urrgh, I am suddenly struggling. I have lost 3 stone this year and just want to lose another 5lb or so. Half a stone maximum. But having found it all quite easy until now I am suddenly overcome with cravings for crap that I thought I had beaten. I have eaten chocolate for 3 consecutive days, having barely touched any since Christmas. Its probably stress related (nasty meeting at work coming up, which will probably be the end of 20+ years in the same job) but I don't want to make myself feel worse by gaining weight as well! My usual weigh day is Tuesday but I am going to skip it and weigh in on Friday with all of you, to see if I can do some damage limitation over the next few days!

RaskolnikovsGarret · 05/10/2020 21:22

Thanks Neverenough xx
