Shorties trying to lose weight!

SwimmingOnEggshells · 29/09/2020 12:02

I started my fatbusting journey a couple of weeks ago and my plan is to document my progress here.

So far I've been doing a fair bit of cardio - 5 times per week - and I'm hoping this will help me get rid of some lbs. I posted a thread on AIBU looking for people's advice on only using exercise to lose weight but the general consensus is that no, I need to calorie restrict too. Boo! is what I say to that but maybe I need to face facts that I'm no longer a spring chicken and need to make a concerted effort with food too to shed anything!

Anyone want to join me?! @neverenoughchelseaboots

Current weight: 60kg/132lbs

Hello to the new joiners! Great to have you! Whether it is a little or a lot to lose it is the steps in the right direction that get you there. We can do it together!!

I'm keeping going. 6lb down now in just over 3 weeks which I suppose is quite fast but then the changes I have made are quite huge. The biggest being hardly any booze compared to before. It doesn't even taste or feel the same anymore...it's as though all this clean eating has made me much more sensitive to the effects of alcohol. It makes me queasy if I'm honest Shock not just the morning after but while drinking!!

I realised that I had a self limiting mindset about diet and fitness and now I know it was holding me back, there's no stopping me. I'm happy for a slower loss rate as I don't want to put it back on. Ive been looking into how the body adapts to much fewer calories in a process of adaptive thermogenesis... it needs less calories compared to someone the same height and weight, makes you less inclined to move around, and more hungry. The answer to this is keeping the metabolism up through exercise, especially strength work, protein, and lots of daily steps and movement.

Happy friday everyone!!!!

TheDogsMother · 23/10/2020 07:21

Another 1lb off so I know I can fit into the dress I am wearing next Friday. Would love to get another 1 or 2 off by then if I can. How are you all getting on ? Being a shortie it's tough getting the pounds off

neverenoughchelseaboots · 23/10/2020 07:46

I've pretty much maintained this week (0.2lb up) but I'm happy with that really because I feel like I've had a healthy and active week. I've done two slow runs and haven't ran for years plus gone up a weight in body pump (although I think my neck has been doing some of the work 🤨judging my aches and pains this morning.). Also no change in body fat.

I did have a couple of glasses of wine last night, but over the week I've had about a third of what I used to have. I'm not quite where you're at @Beroltheperil but certainly getting there that it doesn't feel as appealing anymore.

Hope everyone else had a good weigh in day - even if that means feeling healthy and happy rather than a drop. xx

25th Sep - 9st 10.8lbs / 28.7% body fat
2nd Oct - 9st 8.8lbs / 28.3% body fat
9th Oct - 9st 7.9lbs / 28.1% body fat
16th Oct - 9st 6.9lb / 27.8% body fat
Today - 9st 7.1lb / 27.8% body fat

Morningmaeve · 23/10/2020 09:04

Totally agree @Beroltheperil and @neverenoughchelseaboots re the booze and that is one of the changes I have made too. Still having a few glasses of wine one or two nights a week but that is way less than during lockdown. Weight very slightly up this week but I did have a bit of a carb feast last night! Still feel positive as have lost more than half a stone since the beginning of Sept so am treating the last few weeks as a bit of a plateau and going to keep on keeping on. Weight today was 9st 9.2lbs.

WhistlersandJugglers · 23/10/2020 09:13

I'm 10 stone exactly today so another pound down. Mid term next week so will be up a bit later and hopefully that will make 16:8 a bit easier.
I ordered skinny jeans online last night. I hope they'll motivate me to be a bit skinnier in them.

cathyandclare · 23/10/2020 09:53

Well done losers and welcome new joiners. I've stayed the same this week, but going hard today for my official weigh-in tomorrow.

I just drink way too many milky coffees and wine

In the past I've been very successful using three-days of very strict low-carb to kick-start loss or break a plateau. I may schedule three days in next week, with all the constant COVID stuff and nowhere to go, I've been finding it difficult to find the motivation- but this group definitely helps.

MrsAvocet · 23/10/2020 11:39

Half apound off for me today. Better than another gain I supposec but I was hoping for better.

DumbleDorkReturns · 26/10/2020 18:13

Do I count as a shortie at 5'3 Grin

Starting weight (19/9/20): 14 stone 7
Today's weight (25/10/20): 13 stone 5
Target weight: 8 stone

StripeyandConfused · 26/10/2020 19:12

I'm really hungry

Thats an impressive loss
DumbleDorkReturns · 26/10/2020 19:40

@StripeyandConfused thanks. Just over a stone in a month. Think it will start to slow down now though

RunningThrough · 26/10/2020 21:14

Great thread!

5'1
Currently: 115 lbs
Target: 110lbs

It's taken me 4 months to lose a stone (yay!) and I feel loads better for it but I really need to lose the last 5 lbs. It's so hard!

neverenoughchelseaboots · 27/10/2020 19:07

@RunningThrough @DumbleDorkReturns you've both had great results!
Share your tips - please tell me that you made some really minor changes and managed to lose a stone 😂

I think I'm heading for a gain this week 😬

DumbleDorkReturns · 27/10/2020 19:11

@neverenoughchelseaboots I've gone plant based which means I'm eating better than I ever have before Smile

neverenoughchelseaboots · 27/10/2020 19:22

Ah that makes sense. I was a stone heavier this time last year. I lost that fairly easily (and accidentally) when I went veggie but I seem to forget that and focus on the half a stone I'm now struggling to shift.

RunningThrough · 27/10/2020 20:44

Very minor changes...

No gin, no snacks, more exercise!

Angliski · 28/10/2020 07:43

Hi all, lost 4lbs this first week so down to 14.9

Still massive but a huge victory as I have struggled to get anything off till now. More focussed and calm. More meal planning.

Downside- my yoga teacher needs a COVID test - so my week off plans to do hot yoga four times a week are stymied!

Angliski · 28/10/2020 07:43

Goal for Sunday is to get under 14.7

modernfemininity · 28/10/2020 10:51

Thank you for starting this thread @SwimmingOnEggshells. I have enjoyed reading your entries as well as @MrsAvocet because I have been on the same journey and am now down to where I can maintain.

@neverenoughchelseaboots put it right for me and explained something I had not realised.... if you are making only small losses each week (like me) then a small event of eating too much in a sitting (which for me would be having a small slice of kids pizza as I tidy up) ; This could undo the weight loss and make me have a small weight gain that week. This was a lightbulb moment!

I get sad that I am not popular anywhere it seems with regard to body size or diet talk .... all because I am so small. @MrsAvocet explained it well about sounding mental if you want to be 48kg when it is certainly within the healthy weight band. I have a tiny frame and size 2 feet. I don’t look gaunt. I have a tiny waist and fat legs and a fattish lower tummy and bum.

Can I join the chat?

I have lost two stone since June 30th - I was really chubby because of lockdown and yet I was happy and enjoyed pulling the family together through food (our kids are teens). I weigh daily in kilos because I like the easy to read 100g setting on the scales.

I fear this week might be my first gain due to dark chocolate brazils and red wine. I will be diet conscious today to make up for last night. That’s how I do it.

I ‘dine out’ so to speak, a little, and then compensate after, or in advance. We are eating a lot of veg. It takes up loads of room in the fridge! It’s quite expensive too. I am worried I won’t lose the last 3kg and also worried about maintenance of staying under 50kg. Halloween Grin

Thank you all for your posts and again to @SwimmingOnEggshells for the thread.

MrsAvocet · 28/10/2020 11:19

Welcome @modernfemininity
I haven't had much to say recently as I am kind of stuck. The last few kg are proving stubborn. I think its a combination of the fact that my calorie requirements have now dropped to the point that if I want to lose anything I really can't afford to go much over 1000 calories a day so the odd indiscretion really does matter, and that the weather has been so awful so I've been less active.
Psychologically, the fact that I am not actually overweight anymore does have an impact I think. I found it quite easy to motivate myself when I really was fat, but now I am more likely to give into temptation because though I would still like to be slimmer, I am "ok". Like yesterday my DH bought a packet of jaffa cakes - I love them. At the beginning of the year I would have resisted, when, paradoxically, an extra 100 calories or so probably wouldn't have had any impact. But yesterday I went "Mmm jaffa cakes. I deserve a treat. And I'm not fat any more really so a couple won't hurt will they..." And its true. They wouldn't. But I am starting to slip back into the habit of "treating myself" most days, which will of course derail my weight loss if I don't stop it.
When you are small already you really do have to be strict with yourself if you want to lose weight, and people are not sympathetic. I pretty much got accused of having an eating disorder on a different thread a few days ago when I said what I would have for lunch! Its nice to chat to people in the same boat on this thread.

SwimmingOnEggshells · 28/10/2020 11:43

Hello everyone! [waves] I've been very unfocused over the last week or two but I swear I'm back on it now. I've weaned off my medication, yay @Beroltheperil and I'm hoping for big things. It's possible that my jeans are fitting better. I bought a pair of size 10 jeggings in M&S and they are bet on me (as we say here in Ireland), as in so tight that when I sit down after lunch I normally have to open the button. Well not yesterday! I managed to keep the button closed! It's a small win but I'll take it :)

This morning I did 50 minutes on the bike and I'm just having a cappuccino now. Lunch is a mediterranean salad from lidl and then dinner will be chicken with tarragon rice.

Yes yes yes @modernfemininity and @MrsAvocet to the lack of sympathy from people. I think the thing is not to talk about it to people in real life - vent here! I was 48kg about 6 years ago and I looked great but that's shockingly light to height-typical people in this world.

I'm far, far away from 48kg at the moment and would happily settle for 50kg...

neverenoughchelseaboots · 28/10/2020 13:24

Good to hear from you @SwimmingOnEggshells

Unfocused is a good term, I'd say that's how my week has been too. I've not gone mad but not been as aware. Things like eating DDs crusts, finishing my whole meal even though I may well have been full enough at 2/3rds.

I find coming on here and hearing a good reminder and helps keep things on my mind. So excuse uninteresting updates from me over the next few days 🙃.

@modernfemininity nice to have you. Quite the band of shorties we've got going now.

SwimmingOnEggshells · 28/10/2020 13:34

we do indeed have quite the band of little-ies Grin

Bring on the uninteresting updates @neverenoughchelseaboots, I find that if I avoid the thread it's because I'm not arsed with my diet, so I might start spamming it with the mundanity of my daily food intake if that's ok.

neverenoughchelseaboots · 28/10/2020 14:08

Spam away @SwimmingOnEggshells! It might be some welcome meal inspiration. I had a lovely but healthy lunch so here's mine...

Thin slice of toasted ciabatta with dry fried courgettes, tomatoes and garam masala. Served with spinach leaves. It sounds pretty unappealing but nicely presented and with a grating of pecorino it was actually delicious.
