Shorties trying to lose weight!

I started my fatbusting journey a couple of weeks ago and my plan is to document my progress here.

So far I've been doing a fair bit of cardio - 5 times per week - and I'm hoping this will help me get rid of some lbs. I posted a thread on AIBU looking for people's advice on only using exercise to lose weight but the general consensus is that no, I need to calorie restrict too. Boo! is what I say to that but maybe I need to face facts that I'm no longer a spring chicken and need to make a concerted effort with food too to shed anything!

Anyone want to join me?! @neverenoughchelseaboots

Welcome everyone. 1lb down today, so I'm banking that instead of yesterday's figure! 6.5lb to go.

TeddyDidIt · 17/10/2020 10:38

My weigh-in is Saturday morning and I'm surprised to find I'm down another pound this week! One more pound until I'm allowed a takeaway Grin And 6 pounds until I reach my target
Hope everyone has a good weekend

Hi @ABitOdd and welcome!! I'm a fellow 5ft 2. Well done on your 1200 a day, it really isn't that much. Are you also exercising? If you can do some strength training that'll help your metabolism plus daily cardio is a good idea, doesn't have to be extreme as a brisk walk is fine.

I started at 142lb 2.5 weeks ago, now down to 136 this morning... almost half a stone. I'm eating high lean protein, high lean veg, moderate carb, and the only sugar treat is berries and I do use a bit of stevia. I'm having olive oil only in terms of added fat. Booze very much reduced but I'm having some at weekends.

I'm doing hiit classes x3 per week of 60 mins and daily brisk walks.

It's hard going at times but in the swing of it now and I love how much better my clothes feel.

Hope everyone is having a good weekend!!

Beroltheperil · 18/10/2020 12:10

Lean veg???! Grin
I'm eating high veg!

Totallycluelessoverhere · 19/10/2020 06:51

Last week I was 10st 3lb.
This week I am 10st 1lb.
I have been making an effort to walk more and snack less.
I am an emotional eater and lockdown has really not helped with that.
My target weight is 9st but I would absolutely love to lose half a stone before Christmas.

SwimmingOnEggshells · 19/10/2020 12:08

Hello everyone, very slow for me but I'm struggling on. Back in the zone now today, good bike session done first thing which is something.

Does anyone have a fitbit? I had an alta without HR so I stopped using it as I had to estimate my calories burned every day. Am I right in thinking if I get a fitbit with HR it will estimate my calories burned for me? I just wonder...because I'm working from home I'm so sedentary and maybe my bike sessions aren't really doing that much for me, i.e. the daily bike session could be equivalent to the calories I burned walking around work? I stood a lot in work as well, and working from home I'm sitting all day so that can't be great.

Anyway to cut a long story short, should I get a new fitbit to track my HR and estimate my calorie needs??

swimming my Fitbit is a charge 3 and it does estimate the calories burned. I don’t know if all models have this feature.

StripeyandConfused · 19/10/2020 21:14

I'm using fitness pal and its told me to eat 1300 cals a day to lose 3kg in 5 weeks so thatd just over a 1lbs a week? I'm hungry lol

WhistlersandJugglers · 19/10/2020 22:17

@SwimmingOnEggshells, how are you feeling about being locked down again? It's a bit of a shock even though we knew it was coming.
I'm determined to be more positive this time. I'm doing my weekly shop tomorrow and focusing on fruit and veg and no silly snacks.

Beroltheperil · 20/10/2020 06:25

I'm locked down due to travel quarantine at the moment too and this time feels completely different...last time I think I was so anxious about the situation that I ate and drank my way through it. Now I see it as an opportunity with no socialising etc to bed in these new habits, I think it will take 6 weeks so I'm keeping going and enjoying the feeling of being in more control. Good luck!

SwimmingOnEggshells · 20/10/2020 08:38

@WhistlersandJugglers I'm not feeling too bad, I won't be making the same dietary mistakes as the last time! Kids being in school and Creche is going to make it very bearable (sorry kids!) We're both wfh at the moment and it was a nightmare when they were home.

It's going to be very hard on grandparents but the bubble will apply to both ours which means at least they'll have social contact with other members of my family.

Thankfully I have Santa pretty much sorted :)

Woah this group is closed

neverenoughchelseaboots · 20/10/2020 10:08

I'm struggling to exercise this week but I'm hoping not having wine in the evenings will help offset it.

I think I might lose my childcare options for 2 days per week if we hit tier 3 which means I'll have zero free time. So need to consider how I can maintain progress with no exercise.

I'll have to start calorie counting but no idea what I currently consume to be honest as I've never tracked it. @StripeyandConfused what do you use to track? I don't eat a lot of pre-packaged food and only do half the cooking so think I might find it tricky to guess what's in the meals.

StripeyandConfused · 20/10/2020 20:23

I use my fitness pal it's free and advised me to have 1300 cals which is hard work. You type in what you're eating all day and it tells you what youre eating.
I've been doing Pamela reif videos for exercise

neverenoughchelseaboots · 21/10/2020 09:55

How's everyone doing this week?

I'm feeling much more on it than last week. I switched the lunch time dog walk to a dog jog (he was livid!) and I'm dragging him out again this lunchtime.

Started using my fitness pal this morning. Even if I only track the meals I prepare or take a guess at the rest I guess it's better than nothing and will help me be more aware of where I'm taking in additional calories.

Usually all week I'm heavier than the previous weigh in but seem to drop Friday morning. But this week I'm still around last friday's weight. I'm not sure if that's good and I'll see a good result this week or whether the pattern may shift and jump in the other direction. Who knows ? 🤷🏼‍♀️

TeddyDidIt · 21/10/2020 10:57

I am doing well with eating healthily and not snacking, but I'm not getting much exercise as my DS is on half term so I'm out of routine. I should do something in the evening really.

Morningmaeve · 21/10/2020 13:40

I did a sneaky mid-week weigh-in and scales have still not moved... not fair as I even dropped to two meals on Monday and Tuesday (skipped breakfast). I use my fitness pal but end up guessing a lot of the time but at least it is some indication. I accept weight loss will be slow at my height/age but SOME movement on the scales would be appreciated on Friday!

neverenoughchelseaboots · 21/10/2020 13:48

@Morningmaeve I usually have a mid week sneaky check of the scales and always seem to drop on the Friday and it's a pleasant surprise. Hopefully you'll get the same!

I managed another lunch time run (that makes it sound a lot faster than it was) so feeling proud of myself.

Angliski · 21/10/2020 22:47

Please can I join? I'm a bit ashamed to say, 5ft 2 and 15stone. But there it is. Heaviest by miles of my life, now 42 and have 9 month old. Finally in a place mentally where i can commit. Alarmed at the scale of the project.

Curret: 15st
Want to be: 8st 6 lbs
This is over 100 lbs!!

Oh God.

I am 16:8 ing, low caring and calorie counting to around 1200. No unhealthy snacks, lots of water. Quarantined at the moment and havent done much exercise bar yoga. Need to get into a rhythm.

Very inspiring stories everyone.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 22/10/2020 09:39

Hello everyone, hoping I can join you all too?! I've read the whole thread and you all seem like a lovely bunch of short arses Grin

I'm 5'2" and currently weigh 130lbs. I'm a real comfort/stress eater unfortunately, and I really need to work on this. The first month of the last lockdown I went up to 137lbs which is the heaviest I've been aside from when pregnant and I looked awful. DH and I really worked on it and I went down to 120lbs by the end of July which I was delighted with but now I'm back up again... I'm late 40s and having lots of menopause symptoms which doesn't help - including insomina which leaves me with little energy to do anything but I'm determined that I'm going to lose a stone by Christmas because I know that I can - and I've got little else to do!! I'm in Ireland and we're just today starting a full lockdown. I've been working in the office full time but from today I'm back to working from home 3 days a week so I will have the time to get out and walk, which I intend to do a lot of.

Reading your updates so far has really movitated and encouraged me Flowers

neverenoughchelseaboots · 22/10/2020 12:47

Welcome @LifeInAHamsterWheel

Getting down to 120lbs was good going! What were you doing to get such good results. I think most of us are slow and steady on here so hopefully you'll find it helpful now you're back on track.

I've treated myself to some workout gear instead of my 10 year old leggings and it's given me an extra boost of motivation to get moving.

I've found if I put my gym kit on when I get dressed in a morning with a smarter work sweater over the top, I'm more mentally ready to quickly do a bit a lunch time. Rather than spending my lunch faffing getting changed and then not actually working out.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 22/10/2020 14:50

Well mostly we cut out the ridiculous amount of crap we were eating. DH lost over 2 stone as well (and has put a lot back on now too unfortunately) I walked A LOT - did try running but had all sorts of problems with my back/knees/feet so just stuck with waking. But I think the think that made the biggest difference was doing 16:8 I didn't break my fast at all until lunchtime each day, and I didn't eat anything at all after 7pm. No snacks. It definitely works but isn't easy!!

WhistlersandJugglers · 22/10/2020 15:55

Welcome, @LifeInAHamsterWheel. I'm also in my late 40s and suffering on and off from insomnia. It's kind of hard to tell if it's perimenopause or stress from the pandemic. It does make it much harder not to snack.
I haven't weighed in this week but I've been sensible so hopefully will have a result tomorrow.

neverenoughchelseaboots · 22/10/2020 17:23

Oh and hi @Angliski - just seen your post. Glad to have you join us all.

It's so hard with a little one that age - my DD is approaching 3 and I've only just got to a point where I feel I have time for myself.
