Shorties trying to lose weight!

SwimmingOnEggshells · 29/09/2020 12:02

I started my fatbusting journey a couple of weeks ago and my plan is to document my progress here.

So far I've been doing a fair bit of cardio - 5 times per week - and I'm hoping this will help me get rid of some lbs. I posted a thread on AIBU looking for people's advice on only using exercise to lose weight but the general consensus is that no, I need to calorie restrict too. Boo! is what I say to that but maybe I need to face facts that I'm no longer a spring chicken and need to make a concerted effort with food too to shed anything!

Anyone want to join me?! @neverenoughchelseaboots

Current weight: 60kg/132lbs
Target: 50kg/110lbs

Shamelessly place marking... Will be back later with my joining credentials!

Beroltheperil · 09/10/2020 07:43

Weigh in!
4lb down . Current weight 138. Target 122

neverenoughchelseaboots · 09/10/2020 07:47

Hi @Sinuhe and @qwerty1972 - what a great little group we've got going on.

@Beroltheperil that's absolutely amazing. Well done!

I'm pleasantly surprised that the scales weren't kind all week but show a drop today.

25th Sep - 9st 10.8lbs / 28.7% body fat
2nd Oct - 9st 8.8lbs / 28.3% body fat
Today - 9st 7.9lbs / 28.1% body fat

Thanks for all the support and good sense ladies, it's so helpful. I'm so happy with the balance of food, exercise and wine over the last two weeks.

If I can drop one lb next week I'll be the lightest I've been since I was pregnant - probably even a couple of years before that! Might take a couple of weeks to get there, but I'm so motivated.

qwerty1972 · 09/10/2020 08:01

Thank you, everyone, for the welcome. I believe Friday is weigh in day, so just noting down this morning's weight:

9th October - 134lb

Have a great weekend!

cathyandclare · 09/10/2020 08:18

Great weight loss @Beroltheperil and @neverenoughchelseaboots. I did indeed go up today but still have a 2.5 lb loss taking me to 8 12.5- with a target of 8 5.

Morningmaeve · 09/10/2020 08:54

Can I join please? Am definitely short - 5ft 2in. Got over 10 stone in lockdown. Decided to tackle it and last time I stood on the scales I was 9 stone 10lb. I'm 54 so shifting it not as easy as it used to be... and progress is slow. Be back with today's stats later.

TheDogsMother · 09/10/2020 09:51

Morning everyone. I'm here for weekly check in and it's another 1lb off. 4 to go though I would settle for 3 and I have 3 weeks to do it in. I've been reading through everyone's progress and and you all doing brilliantly. This weight business is not easy as a shorty.

SwimmingOnEggshells · 09/10/2020 10:30

Well done everyone on your progress, super stuff all round!

Unfortunately not good for me, I'm actually up 1/4 of a lb :( I only managed to do 4 exercise sessions this week so I plan on doing another one tomorrow to hit my usual target of 5 and I might do a sneaky weigh in then too.

@Beroltheperil thank you for your lovely message. It's interesting to hear you put on weight too. Similar to you, my attitude to the weight gain was ok at first as my mental health was doing well so I saw it as collateral damage so to speak. I've been very stable for a good while now so I'll see how I get on with coming off them. I'm coming off them slower than what my dr recommended, so far I'm tapering a month and I think I'll have another month before I'm off them completely. Fingers crossed I manage ok without.

@SwimmingOnEggshells considering you said you'd gone up, 1/4 lb isn't bad at all. x

SwimmingOnEggshells · 09/10/2020 14:12

You're right @neverenoughchelseaboots, it's probably water or something, I'll soldier on!

So far so good today with my food.
Breakfast: coffee
Lunch: one slice of toast, guac made from half an avocado, one slice of prosciutto
Dinner plan: homemade fishcakes, corn on the cob, mushy peas, small amount of sweet potato fries

Evening everyone!

I weighed in today, 55.9kg. Had a bad couple of days diet wise though. Ready to power through to next week now!

Morningmaeve · 09/10/2020 21:08

Scales today showed 9.88 stone.... onwards towards next goal of 91/2 stone :)

WhistlersandJugglers · 10/10/2020 10:41

10st 3lb for me today. I had a good week with exercise but birthday cake, a few drinks, too many snacks so I knew wouldn't lose. Starting today properly on the 16:8 with no snacking.
I'm in Ireland and we moved to a higher level of restrictions during the week. I loaded on the weight during lockdown and I don't want to do it again now.

SwimmingOnEggshells · 10/10/2020 20:44

@WhistlersandJugglers waves! Also from Ireland 🇮🇪 I put a stone on in our last lockdown too. I'm determined not to put on another one!

WhistlersandJugglers · 10/10/2020 22:10

@SwimmingOnEggshells, we're going to need this thread. I think we'll be back in full lockdown pretty soon going by today's numbers.
It's very depressing but I'm going to try to have a more positive attitude this time.

LittleLapwing · 11/10/2020 06:28

Yep, lockdown felled me too. I did well for the first few weeks but as it dragged on I slipped and it just piled on.

We’re not on lockdown yet where I live, but it’s only a matter of time I think.

Darklane · 11/10/2020 16:11

Hi everyone, may I join please? Followed you over from the shorty thread on S&B.
My weight had gradually crept up over the last years due to a mix of low thyroid, on the meds for years, & arthritis that’s getting worse so exercise is becoming more & more painful, to the highest it had ever been at 145lb. Over the last few weeks I’ve managed to get down to 141lb, feel like I’m fighting a losing battle with the thyroid.
I’d like to get down to 135 by mid November, aiming for 125 realistically but hoping for lower eventually. I’m also on meds for high BP & my weight seems to make a huge difference to the dosage I need. Age doesn’t help with losing either, it’s true that it’s harder to shift after the menopause.
I’m 5’1” by the way.

SwimmingOnEggshells · 11/10/2020 21:17

Of course @Darklane, delighted to have you! 4 lbs loss in a few weeks is a lot! Well done you. I know someone on arthritis meds too and she really struggles with her weight, not easy :(

acatcalledcatto · 11/10/2020 21:47

Hello everyone.

I'm 5ft 0.8in (yes the 0.8 is important!!)
8st 8/9lbs / 55 kg
BMI 23.5
Age 33

I'm not technically overweight (yet), but it's crept up on me since I turned 30 and I don't want it to keep going up. I used to be 7st 9 - 12 lbs. I have PCOS and I definitely feel my metabolism slower. I've always liked my food and wine but can't get away with it like I used to.

I am happy to be 8st 4lbs, max 8st 7lbs. Just don't want to exceed that.

I'm finding it really difficult to even shed these couple of pounds without feeling starving and going back up again within a week.

I'm currently on a cycle of diet for 2 weeks - get to 8st 5/6, feel hungry not all the time but regularly. Then go yay I've reached my target and within 2 weeks I'm back up to 8st 9 again !!

I weigh myself every morning, is it better to weigh once a week then??

Beroltheperil · 12/10/2020 05:38

Good morning!

@acatcalledcatto I am weighing every morning too as I am looking for encouragement but of course it goes up and down slightly so that starts messing with my brain and to be honest not worth it! Sadly the less you weigh the harder it is to lose weight as we all know. I think the toughest bit will be maintenance once the target is reached. Keeping the right amount of discipline going. The evidence shows that diets don't work generally, long term, and that is because of how hard maintenance is. The body fights back if you like, as though it doesn't like what you have done and wants to go back (!) Theyre not the right words obviously, but I looked into it recently when I had a dabble in intuitive eating. Maybe a wise person can come along to explain it properly. Anyhow I have never been so motivated in all the years I've tried to diet so when I get there I am determined to keep the discipline going and follow a maintenance plan until it becomes my normal way of eating. Just need to get there first!!

I had a good weekend. Stuck to thenplsm but had 2 alcoholic drinks on sat and 2 last night. Low carb ones. No extra food. Feel the worse for it and don't think it was worth it. I did long walks and a strength training class yesterday. Pretty pleased overall.

Have a good start to the week!

Morningmaeve · 12/10/2020 08:08

Hello all - reviewing my weekend food-wise I can see why my weight loss is very slow. Salmon en croute... homemade pizza... not huge helping but still. However on the plus side no eating between meals, no alcohol and no cakes/biscuits. I think I am okay with this. This needs to be a long-term plan for me and I'd rather be stricter in the week and give myself a bit of a break at the weekend - while accepting that means weight loss will be S-L-O-W and not getting annoyed about that and giving up!

SwimmingOnEggshells · 12/10/2020 10:01

Same here @morningmaeve I had a tiny lunch on Saturday but ate steak and chips and drank loads of wine so that probably had me at maintenance if not over it (I exercised though)

And yesterday I also didn't eat much lunch but ate a massaman curry for dinner. I probably need to start counting calories...

So far today I've done a short spurt on my bike because I've quite a lot on today with work.

@acatcalledcatto I also weigh nearly every day, it can be very frustrating when you see the fluctuations but I know when I don't weigh I gain :( so I need to check it regularly

Smellybluecheese · 12/10/2020 14:44

I have found my people! I've been dieting since the end of July and have lost 12lb so it's pretty slow going. Lost my motivation towards the end of last week and had a few over calorie days for the first time.

Back on it today. I'm calorie counting - 1200 a day, running 5k 3 times a week, and doing yoga every day. All that and it works out at about a pound a week. I hate being short!

I'm 5'0.5" (that half inch is v important :) )
CW: 134lb
TW: 112lb

Actually my first target is to get to 129lb which would be a healthy BMI, and then I've a few other targets to hit on the way.

FIL has booked us all a holiday next summer (that we may or may not get to go on). The whole thing is my idea of hell anyway but one of the SILs is v tall and model like and the thought of having to be in a swimming costume next to her and in front of all my in laws is very motivating indeed...!

neverenoughchelseaboots · 13/10/2020 07:27

Wow @Smellybluecheese 12lb is very good going! Hope this thread helps you keep motivated.

I've not been able to exercise as much as usual (not that that is very much anyway!) because I've got a job interview so having to spend my spare time doing prep.

But I've eaten pretty well and not having wine until weekend (🤞) so I'm hoping the gain won't be toooo bad.

Beroltheperil · 13/10/2020 21:43

Is anyone else feeling a bit fed up? I'm almost 2 weeks in now. Had a great first week loss wise but the second, I just dont feel like it is moving. I wonder why. I'm exercising too. I guess I keep my head down and push forwards. Weight loss is something of a mystery isn't it... especially with hormones in the mix
