Shorties trying to lose weight!

SwimmingOnEggshells · 29/09/2020 12:02

I started my fatbusting journey a couple of weeks ago and my plan is to document my progress here.

So far I've been doing a fair bit of cardio - 5 times per week - and I'm hoping this will help me get rid of some lbs. I posted a thread on AIBU looking for people's advice on only using exercise to lose weight but the general consensus is that no, I need to calorie restrict too. Boo! is what I say to that but maybe I need to face facts that I'm no longer a spring chicken and need to make a concerted effort with food too to shed anything!

Anyone want to join me?! @neverenoughchelseaboots

Current weight: 60kg/132lbs
Target: 50kg/110lbs
Height: 5'0 :(
Age: 39

We are still Christmas Eating!! I have found the plentiful Christmas food stocks are actually magic, and are never ending!

Cheese and crackers, carved meats and pickles, cakes, pies and chocolates, refried roast potatoes and the endless sausage plait; Tasty nibbles are everywhere. Fewer of us gathered than I thought and I had been putting things by for a while.

I have got to keep chomping, else it will all go to waste! Taking one for the team. I am good like that. Grin

Karcheer · 29/12/2020 15:32

I am starting to miss vegetables though!

So much cheese and chocolate!

SwimmingOnEggshells · 29/12/2020 17:06

I've really let the side down too, but it's been so nice! My house is stuffed with cheese, chocolate, wine, ham, smoked salmon...no sign of me dieting again until my children are back at school. So far I'm 1lb up but from experience I find it can take a while for the excess to show up on the scales. Hopefully there won't be too much damage done Grin

Haven't seen this thread but would like to hop on if that's ok. I'm the heaviest I have ever been at 9 stone. I'm 5'3 and while this isn't too heavy
I feel awful. I'm 41 and had a hysterectomy last year and those 7-10lbs have crept on. I'm very conscious not to let it get more as that happened my older sisters, mum etc. I'be a very narrow frame so for me this feels huge. Determined to get my backside in gear over the next few days and into the new year.

modernfemininity · 29/12/2020 19:43

We shorties do understand where you are coming from @IRememberSoIDo - your weight is not a high number but you personally want to stop the gain. Other taller folk think we are too light as we areAngry because their weights are greater. A half a stone or a few pounds make a huge difference on a small frame.

Knittingnanny · 30/12/2020 10:30

I’ve just braved the scales and have put on 2 lb, took me 5 days to put those on and 5 weeks to lose them! Back on track and calorie counting today
My target is 9 st by March 1st

MrsAvocet · 30/12/2020 11:01

Not too bad considering it's Christmas though Knittingnanny. I haven't been brave enough to way myself though. I'm going to do it on Friday and then start dieting seriously again from Saturday.

Knittingnanny · 30/12/2020 11:08

I’m a bit disappointed though as I didn’t go too bonkers with food and I don’t drink alcohol anyway. Oh well, just shows that us shorties have such a constant battle to eat well and not put on weight.
Ps I did weigh after my usual pot of tea in bed though so maybe ......

neverenoughchelseaboots · 01/01/2021 10:52

Happy new year everyone.

1st jan - 9st 2.8lbs
Target 1 - 9st by 1st March
Target 2 - 8st 10lb by mid May.

Strangely I'm bang on what I weighed in before Christmas even when though I was higher a few days ago. So I've logged it but expecting it might go up before it goes down.

I'm ready for it! I'm doing dry jan and know I'll have more energy and feel better.

Thank you all for your support and encouragement the last few months. Here's to a more progress. xx

Hi everyone,

So relieved to have found people who understand it’s the fat and not the total number.

I’ve been drifting upwards for a while, pretending otherwise as I still run a fair bit, but it’s true you can’t outrun a bad diet. Xmas week has been awful and now at my highest point for two years.

I really struggle with his little food 1200 calories is so I have to run to even have a chance if maintaining weight, but then think I’ve earned myself a treat.

I’m lucky that I’m quite broad shouldered so less than 50kg doesn’t look good on me, but an extra kg looks bad quickly.

This morning was 55kg
Target weight 1: 52kg
Target weight 2: 50 kg

SwimmingOnEggshells · 01/01/2021 13:17

@neverenoughchelseaboots I think we're pretty much exactly the same weight now :) I weigh in at 128 3/4! Which is 9 stone, 2 lbs 3/4.

Are you still considering dry January? I'm wavering on it now...

Welcome @Amaura, being short is not easy, you're in good company :)

Definitely @SwimmingOnEggshells - I need to. I did a calculation of wine calories per month and it was eye watering. I did cut back quite a lot in December and felt so much more productive and patient. I've downloaded an audiobook about moderating so hoping that helps too.

I'm sure I'll struggle at times but currently feel like it's the right time for me.

MrsAvocet · 01/01/2021 14:37

Urrgh, I've gained just under 2kg over the festivities. 53.5kg now. Back to it today. My initial target is 50 but I'd like to get down to 47 or 48kg by the summer. I want to treat myself to some new clothes in the sales but I am irritatingly just between a size 10 and 12 at present. I did wear a size 10 dress on Christmas Day but it was a bit of a squeeze so I can't decide whether to buy some clothes in 12 that will be comfortable now or a more aspirational size 10.

Karcheer · 01/01/2021 16:55

I’m now 56.5kg! I’ve put on 4.5kg in lockdown.

Ideally I need to be 48kg this is my happy weight.

I don’t even look like myself

cathyandclare · 01/01/2021 17:00

I've been missing in action and am right back up at my start-to-feel-really-fat-and uncomfortable weight. I'm 5'3 and 9'3 which although technically healthy doesn't sit well on my frame.

I'd like to lose a stone, but happy with 12 pounds. Going to be very strict for January and then slower loss from then. Aiming to get there by Easter at the latest.

cathyandclare · 01/01/2021 17:01

I'm going to do slightly damp January, Saturday nights only.

Karcheer · 01/01/2021 17:35

What do you think is a healthy amount to lose per month. I really wanted to cut the carbs, but realised we’ve hardly any food in and had to have white roll bacon sandwiches for lunch.

Knittingnanny · 01/01/2021 19:45

I don’t seem to be able to lose barely 1/2 lb a week now I’m so near my target but I think 2/3 lbs a month would be healthy for us shorties. Depends how far along the journey you are. When I started on Sept first with a stone to lose I lost 6 lbs in the first month, 5 in October, and the whole of nov/dec only only 3 lbs!

cathyandclare · 02/01/2021 10:43

I'm aiming for half a stone in January, but a lot of that will be Xmas bloat. Then I think Knittingnanny is right with 3lb being pretty good for a shorty.

Amaura · 02/01/2021 11:33

Workout today, plus a short race yesterday. Hoping for a plod recovery run later as well.

I’ve been limiting drinks because of the calories. Trying to get the kids to eat the last of the mince pies.

Knittingnanny · 02/01/2021 11:53

You are all being very positive, I know how hard it is to diet whilst cooking for a young family. We have the toddler and the baby 2-6pm today so I will no doubt be eating more than I would if it was just us 2.

Morningmaeve · 02/01/2021 13:55

Happy New year all. I have managed to maintain at 9 stone 6lb. There are still a fair few Christmas treats left to eat though! I plan to start my dry January in Monday so that should help balance the calorie books Smile my next target is 9 stone 3lb by end of this month.

purplegirl13 · 03/01/2021 16:16

I'll join. The weight has been creeping up steadily over the last year or 2 and I now weigh around 10st 9lbs. The ultimate aim is 8st7lbs.

Oh and I'm 5'1.

I will aim to get out walking most days. No set target for the month, just want to start eating more sensibly over the next few weeks

cathyandclare · 04/01/2021 09:06

2.5lb off so far (but 1.5lb of that was bloat gained on my last day of 'freedom' Blush) - feeling a bit more positive about keeping to it now. By the end of the impending lock down I will be able to enjoy wearing all the clothes that are languishing unloved in my wardrobe.

WhistlersandJugglers · 04/01/2021 10:04

I'm back on the 16:8 since yesterday. I'm not weighing in yet but I know it will be bad. I just enjoyed all the Christmas food knowing that we have lockdown for all of January and I'm thinking probably February too. DH is back to work today so hopefully I'll de-bloat a bit over the week and weigh in on Friday.
