Shorties trying to lose weight!

I started my fatbusting journey a couple of weeks ago and my plan is to document my progress here.

So far I've been doing a fair bit of cardio - 5 times per week - and I'm hoping this will help me get rid of some lbs. I posted a thread on AIBU looking for people's advice on only using exercise to lose weight but the general consensus is that no, I need to calorie restrict too. Boo! is what I say to that but maybe I need to face facts that I'm no longer a spring chicken and need to make a concerted effort with food too to shed anything!

Anyone want to join me?! @neverenoughchelseaboots

Current weight: 60kg/132lbs
Target: 50kg/110lbs

@MrsAvocet don't be so hard on yourself! It's ok to indulge a bit, tomorrow is another day and all of that.

We had a binge last night too. Opened all the Christmas food that we'd bought in advance - looks like we're overstocked for just the immediate household.

Feel pretty rotten this morning and sad that it's going to be a full year since I've seen some of the close family.

Going to try and have a few nice but sensible days and get some gentle workouts in to keep some habits up. But I've completely slipped last week so it will be tough to get back on it I think.

Knittingnanny · 20/12/2020 10:20

Yes let’s get back on track today, we have had the bad tier news but let’s not undo our hard work in getting this far with our weight losses.
It’s stopped raining here so going out for a walk later.

WhistlersandJugglers · 20/12/2020 14:43

Condolences to everyone that's had to change plans with the change in teirs. It's a horrible end to a tough year.
I hope you all get to have a happy and safe Christmas even with the less than ideal situation.

Morningmaeve · 21/12/2020 09:21

Tier 4 here and young adult DS not able to come home for Christmas. Feeling very sorry myself but trying to go for self-care rather than a major blow-out. Other DS is going to have to eat a lot of turkey as we don't eat meat. I am off to research some leftovers recipes.

neverenoughchelseaboots · 21/12/2020 09:44

Thanks @WhistlersandJugglers

Sorry to hear you won't see DS @Morningmaeve, that sounds really tough. Please do share any turkey leftover recipes. We now have a 10 person turkey for 2 adults (that don't usually eat meat) and a toddler 😮. But to waste meat would be even worse than eating it.

I'm not sure how but I've lost a bit more weight. 9st 2.8lb today! I'm under my pre-christmas stretch target. I'm going to aim for 9stone by 1st March (which I think is the same as you @Knittingnanny) so hopefully we can keep each other going.

Hope you're all doing well, despite everything. x

SwimmingOnEggshells · 21/12/2020 10:56

I'm so sorry to hear everyone's Christmas plans have been changed because of stupid Covid.

Will your DS spend Christmas with friends @Morningmaeve? I hope he's not on his own.

I'm up a lb since Friday but that's probably because I'd a very boozy weekend. Back on track today and I'm going to try to keep at it until Thursday.

Currently scrubbing floors and hoping that'll burn some calories. I'm literally on my hand and knees with a toothbrush 🤣

WhistlersandJugglers · 21/12/2020 11:13

Sorry to hear that, @Morningmaeve. It must be very upsetting. My kids are teens and I know I wouldn't be coping very well if they were a bit older and I wasn't seeing them at Christmas.

Knittingnanny · 21/12/2020 11:29

It’s so strange being short and trying to be the correct healthy weight, although I’ve lost one stone ( so one tenth of my body weight), I’ve lost precisely nothing from my DD’s.
I’ve lost 2 inches from my waist, a tiny 1/4 “ from my hips and still have out of proportion 36DD! Bras not even looser! How on earth does that work??

Knittingnanny · 21/12/2020 11:33

Neverenough, yes we can spur each other on! My name would be neverenoughhandbags.
Like someone else said earlier, I am finding my stomach seems to be shrinking and I have automatically reduced portion size
However my downfall ( crisps, biscuits and chocolate) will probably always be able to slip down easily

neverenoughchelseaboots · 21/12/2020 13:34

Indeed! A wise friend always used to say 'no matter how much you eat, there's always room for a chocolate biscuit.'

Knittingnanny · 21/12/2020 15:12

Same with children! However full up they claim they are pushing dinner around their plates, they can always slip down a pudding!

Knittingnanny · 21/12/2020 15:15

One of my littlest granddaughters who in normal times we have one day a week for childcare, comes in and looks around the kitchen. If she sees something interesting she puts on her anguished face, rubs her tummy and says in a sad voice “ knittingnanny I’m really hungry”
Never happens if it’s something healthily boring out ready for cooking the dinner.

Morningmaeve · 21/12/2020 22:01

Thanks all - he has a flat mate so won't be alone but it is the first Christmas he won't be at home. Feels very strange but it is what it is so we'll make the best of it.

neverenoughchelseaboots · 23/12/2020 16:01

Well something very strange is happening. I was 9st 3.5 on Saturday, 9st 2.8lb on Monday, 9st 2.4lb yesterday and 9st 1.8lb today.

My scales give really consistent readings when I have multiple attempts so I don't think they're broken.

I've been pretty busy and done some running but it feels very undeserved. I'm confused! 🤷🏼‍♀️

SwimmingOnEggshells · 23/12/2020 16:59

Mine do that too @neverenoughchelseaboots - you're getting closer and closer to 9st though :)

I haven't managed to stay strict...nothing too excessive (yet) but I've definitely been enjoying a few small indulgences 😋

MrsAvocet · 23/12/2020 22:08

Well done @neverenoughchelseaboots. I sometimes find that when I think I should have lost as I've been really good nothing happens then a week or two later I have a big loss when I don't really deserve it.
I have a mystery too. I haven't lost any weight to speak of for several weeks now but have lost 3cm off my waist measurement! I've bought myself a size 10 dress for Christmas Day. I ordered it online and was a bit unsure whether to get a 10 or 12, but it fits - just! Big improvement on last Christmas when I was wearing size 14-16 anyway.

modernfemininity · 25/12/2020 06:45

BiscuitBrewGood morning and merry Christmas all you lovely shorties!Xmas Smile

No dieting today, but we can all try to go steady on the mother’s ruin Xmas SmileCakeWine and I hope you all have a wonderful day, whether that is relaxing or working, busying with family or bubble, or relaxing alone. I am sure many of us will be thinking of and missing loved ones.

Weight-wise: Everyone here has lost some weight before... and we can pick things up again after the holiday. I might have a satsuma or a raw carrot to keep me going on occasion but mostly I won’t hold back!

For me - having been indoors for days, I intend to eat what I like with my family and hope to walk off some of my quite embarrassing food excesses, no matter how briefly I get to go out to stretch my legs! We plan to just see the local Christmas lights - the domestic and public ones in our community.

Sending loving support to you all. Thank you ALL for your lovely posts and I am very grateful to @SwimmingOnEggshells for this thread! SmileFlowers Hardly ever is there a thread for short people.

Now... will someone get my Gingerbread Syrup down for me from that top shelf please? Xmas Grin

Karcheer · 25/12/2020 11:37

Merry Christmas to you all.

Think I’m going to wait till Jan 1st to restart.
It’s going to be tough with the gyms closed and my dog still unable to walk, but I can try and focus on diet...

But until then! Happy Christmas 🎄

Knittingnanny · 25/12/2020 23:13

Merry Christmas everyone
What I’ve learned over the last 2 days

  1. I can’t eat a big dinner anymore, we didn’t have the turkey version as now in tier 4 so steak and chips. I had a very small piece of steak, french fries, a few onion rings and lots of peas. A small piece of cheesecake which id been thinking about and didn’t particularly enjoy.
  2. I seem to have gone off chocolate. We opened the chocolate yesterday, I was going to be mindful but accidentally had a few extra. Then had stomach ache all evening. Didn’t fancy any tonight.
  3. Have discovered that I’ve really missed biscuits with my cups of tea and have had far too many out of the Christmas biscuit tin. So I need to find a mindful compromise.
4 ditto crisps!
  1. Had no interest in any bread based snacks, pastries etc which I thought I’d miss after 4 months of very strict calorie counting.

So a few tweaks to make if I’m going to carry on with careful weight management.
But happy to start more careful eating again tomorrow , earlier than planned , as I don’t seem to have the same desire for the “ treat” food as in previous breaks in my dieting efforts.

modernfemininity · 25/12/2020 23:44

Good post @Knittingnanny and interesting reading. I agree with you. Though I managed a far bigger dinner than I thought i was capable of. I have steadily increased my meal size and I think this was a mistake.

All your points are very valid.

SewingWarriorQueen76 · 26/12/2020 17:47

Hope you don't mind a new comer.
I am 5 foot 1, not sure if the weight, probably 10 stone, but big busted. 32 DD/ E but due to lockdown etc, have not been to Pilates since March. Am now looking like a deflated beach ball, so need to tone up and lose the inches that mean I can't fit into my work trousers anymore.

I was walking and doing lots of gardening but that has stopped with the winter but my shoulder and hips have filled out a bit.

Any pointers would be helpful as I have always stayed about the same but I think I am getting middle age spread.

Thanks

SwimmingOnEggshells · 27/12/2020 00:16

@modernfemininity you're so lovely ☺️ I'm glad I started this thread too. I'm hanging on to the top of the wagon at the moment but this thread has been a godsend for me too. I love hearing other petite lady's different experiences with their weight loss journeys.

I had a sneaky unofficial weigh in yesterday and I was 3/4 of a lb up, I'm not overly fussed because I also plan on getting back into it on the 1st.

@SewingWarriorQueen76 of course we'd like you to join. Welcome!

So finally got the scales (Wii) out and weighed myself. 10& a half stone. So not too bad but the last time I weighed myself on it was years ago, (about 8/9 years ago) and it said that I have put on a stone and a half.

I've been for a massive walk and looked at the Angie Fitness TV on You Tube. Just need to get past the last of the Xmas treats with will power.

neverenoughchelseaboots · 28/12/2020 08:35

Hey everyone, good to hear your updates and welcome @SewingWarriorQueen76

I've now reached that 'I'm ready to get back on it' point quite naturally now too.

I've put on 3lb and although I have been grazing on chocolate I don't feel like I've gone anywhere near as mad as I usually would as Christmas. I know how hard it is to lose 3lb so I don't want to do the same again in the next few days and have 6 to lose!

Trouble is there's still a fair bit of chocolate in the cupboard and DH can go weeks without touching it so it's going to be there torturing me. 😭

Hope you all enjoy the rest of the Christmas period and are having some nice rests or family time where possible. xx
