Shorties trying to lose weight!

I started my fatbusting journey a couple of weeks ago and my plan is to document my progress here.

So far I've been doing a fair bit of cardio - 5 times per week - and I'm hoping this will help me get rid of some lbs. I posted a thread on AIBU looking for people's advice on only using exercise to lose weight but the general consensus is that no, I need to calorie restrict too. Boo! is what I say to that but maybe I need to face facts that I'm no longer a spring chicken and need to make a concerted effort with food too to shed anything!

Anyone want to join me?! @neverenoughchelseaboots

Current weight: 60kg/132lbs

It wasn't a great weekend for me - a couple of glasses of wine on saturday night and a roast yesterday...@Karcheer sadly I was not as disciplined as you but roast potatoes are my biggest weakness. The only other thing I ate yesterday was a quorn ham sandwich and I did manage an hour of yoga last night but my weight is back up this morning. It really sucks being short. You can't relax on the food ever!
Today has been porridge for breakfast, cauliflower pilaff for lunch and will have a small portion of butternut squash mac cheese for dinner. And a 5k run at lunchtime.

Karcheer · 30/11/2020 15:03

Today i've had a banana and peanut butter on a crumpet for brekfast.

Lunch I had some leftover duck, a Matzos, an apple and a clementine.

Tonight we are having Sunday lunch curry (ie all the leftovers in a curry), will either avoid the roasties or the rice :/

Karcheer · 30/11/2020 22:06

Also had a packet on crisps :( but didn’t have rice. My fitness pal says I’m -36
I’ve hardly moved today 🐌

Karcheer · 30/11/2020 22:07

Sorry -63 so ate a bit too much today! Or didn’t move enough!

WhistlersandJugglers · 30/11/2020 22:09

I'm just checking in to stay I'm still here. No loss last week but to honest now that's it's into December I'd be happy with just maintaining until Christmas week.
I can resist biscuits all year long but I love everything dried-fruit or nut based like stollen, mince pies, sugared almonds. And my local Lidl is full of all that lovely stuff.
I'd send DH to do the weekly shop but he's worse than I am. He'd come back with everything I'd buy plus several boxes of crisps and random liqueurs.

neverenoughchelseaboots · 01/12/2020 09:42

I'm afraid I'm the same @WhistlersandJugglers. I seem to have got the Christmas spirit suddenly. Decorated the tree with Lebkuchen over the weekend and decorated your Christmas cake last night drinking Baileys.

I've been exercising still but feels a bit sluggish and half hearted.

Off for a run a lunch time run today and will try to have a good few days to mitigate the damage.

SwimmingOnEggshells · 01/12/2020 11:54

I had an emotional day yesterday so I ended up stuffing my face with half a big bag of Haribo I found in our home office and then I had a hot whiskey in the evening because I felt I needed warming up Sad

Feeling slightly more positive today but the hunger pangs are killing me. I feel like I spend most of my time hungry these days...anyone else?

I'm so grateful for this thread though, I love hearing how everyone's doing and while my progress is insanely slow, it's nice to have company Smile

Karcheer · 01/12/2020 17:51

I've not felt hungry at all today, had a banana for breakfast and leftover duck curry for lunch.
Tonight we are having fish and chips (from the freezer not the Chippy), i'm not having chips and will have veg instead.

neverenoughchelseaboots · 01/12/2020 18:29

Sorry to hear that @SwimmingOnEggshells, hope you're okay. I think Haribo and whisky could be a lot lot worse - could have been a family size cheesecake and bottle of wine.

Today's menu was cereal for breakfast, courgettes, tomatoes and spinnach on toasted sour dough for lunch and salmon with broccolli and sweet potato for dinner. I didn't make any of it so I was accidentally healthy.

I did 5k at lunch tine and found it really hard. When I checked Runkeeper at the end I'd knocked over a minute off my time! No wonder I was shattered. In my excitement I signed up for a 10k Lakeland trail for May to give me something to work to in the new year.

It's a week before a holiday that was postponed from March this year so I'm hoping it also gets me in shape for then. I've never really done the whole 'got to be slim for holiday' thing but thinking now I'm feeling better it would be lovely to have some nice summer clothes to feel good in.

Rainallnight · 01/12/2020 18:48

I’ve finally found my discipline muscle and had a really good couple of days. Don’t think it will show up in weight loss because I’m still at home with isolating DD but hopefully it’ll stop it from going up any more! Grin

neverenoughchelseaboots · 02/12/2020 09:26

After eating healthily and doing my best 5k time, I went and started on the wine at 9pm. Stayed up till 1am, ate crisps and a mince pie - two things I'm not even that tempted by. I feel dreadful and also cross with myself. What is wrong with me?!

I think I need to perhaps join a cutting down drinking thread too because I clearly can't do it off my willpower alone.

Does any one know how long it takes for a ton of calories to impact your weight? I'm still looking pretty good on the scales this morning but wondered if it will take effect in the next few days.

SwimmingOnEggshells · 02/12/2020 09:31

Welcome back @Beroltheperil by the way, it's probably important to take a break every so often :)

Wow @neverenoughchelseaboots you're doing so well with your runs! You'll easily do a 10k in May if you're doing a 5k now. The adrenaline of running with others in a structured format really helps spur you on :) (Says she, who ran a couple of 10ks about 10 years ago! I'm no expert really :) )

@Rainallnight good work on the discipline muscle, I find I need to get something to 'click' to get the motivation going.

Not doing too badly here. I don't feel I'm failing anymore at this weight-loss lark which is great. I bought a size 10 pair of M&S skinny jeans a while ago and I could barely zip them up...I'd have to suck everything in to get it up and when the zip was undone the edges of the fabric were about 6 inches apart from one another. That unzipped gap is down to about 3 inches now and they zip up much easier. I'm so glad change is finally happening! Grin

OP posts:
Smellybluecheese · 02/12/2020 11:46

@SwimmingOnEggshells that is amazing! I can't see size 10 skinny jeans ever happening for me, I'm just not built that way. My current jeans (I think they are a 14) are definitely baggy - my big thick winter jumpers fall inside them when I zip them up now and I have to pull them out.

I had a good day yesterday - menu was a muffin with philadephia for breakfast, merguez chickpeas with roasted squash for lunch, and a wrap with quorn nuggets, cheese and salad for dinner. And we went on a long walk up to our local NT place at lunchtime (can just walk in when it's closed so we got to see the Christmas displays) and I managed half an hour of yoga before bed.

Whoever said about being hungry all the time though (sorry I can't find it), it's so true. I'm desperate for lunch now but just about to go and do a 5k before I can eat!

@neverenoughchelseaboots I weigh every day and there doesn't really seem to be any logic in weight gain/ loss for me...though sometimes the day after booze I actually lose a pound or two due to dehydration I think.

MrsAvocet · 02/12/2020 13:26

Good to hear some positive news.
I am back on the wagon after a weekend of cake eating. Trying to ramp up the exercise to see if I can shift those last few pounds before Christmas. Yesterday I went for an 18 mile bike ride and did a 30 min core workout. I desperately want to reduce my waist size so that I can buy some new clothes. Everything about me is a size 10 now except my waist. I'm still mainly wearing my old size 14 clothes but they are hanging off me. I'd fit easily into 12s now but am so close to 10 that it doesn't seem worth buying new stuff in 12 at this point!

Karcheer · 02/12/2020 20:57

I’ve really lost my appetite (which is a very good thing)

Today I’ve had a banana, omelette with goats cheese and spring onion, tonight we’ve had pasta and Bolognese (beef mince and a jar (I was running late tonight)), I had a tiny bit of pasta.
My gym has reopened and I’ve booked a class for Friday

modernfemininity · 03/12/2020 12:20

Peeps seem to be doing well this weekHalo. Keep it going. Great news on the skinny jeans @SwimmingOnEggshells

I am continuing with adding lots of veggies to otherwise more calorific meals. I am currently cooking a shed load of extra mushrooms to add to already mushroomy risotto.

My weight has fluctuated a pound up but experience tells me that this is based on hydration and (ahem) bodily function, so all will be well. I have also had cake and wine, but maintaining is a Way Of Life and for me that has to include a bit of Cake and Wine every now and again!

I also question - when does a blow out affect your weight? There seems to be a few days delay. Like 2 days.

Rainallnight · 03/12/2020 13:42

I’ve lost 1 pound but think it must be a scales blip as I’ve not moved at all!

Smellybluecheese · 03/12/2020 14:19

Well yesterday started well but went to pot in the evening. I just couldn't stop thinking about food. We had jacket potatoes for dinner and I think this happened last time I had one too so might have to avoid as they are high GI.

Starting again (again again again again) today. It's raining though so skipped the lunchtime walk but will do some yoga later and have done the school run.

So far today I've had porridge with blackberries, one poached egg on one slice toast (curse being short), a packet of snack a jacks and a square of dark chocolate. Dinner will be chickpea curry from the freezer.

Karcheer · 03/12/2020 20:51

Today I’ve had a banana, bolognese sauce (leftover from last night) tonight I roasted a chicken breast with skin and veg (dh had a jacket pot). I do feel a little hungry but not massively.
My fitness pal is saying I’m not eating enough calories- this isn’t a major issue is it?

modernfemininity · 03/12/2020 21:58

You seem to have eaten sufficiently today, I would say. If you have an eating disorder you need to be more cautious and careful, and if you do not then I cannot see that under-eating occasionally according to MFP is a bad thing. It will make you lose weight.

Make sure you drink enough.

Karcheer · 03/12/2020 22:03

@modernfemininity no I’ve never had a eating disorder I love food.
Yes I need to drink more, I’m rubbish at drinking water.
Thank you

Angliski · 03/12/2020 22:38

@DiesalFive amazing!!!! Love that skin you’re in! You have done so well. You may have a number, your body may have another.

How do you feel?

V inspiring for me as I have similar amounts to lose:)

My scales are shonky but I am definitely down- I suspect under 14st for the first time since pre pregnancy! Thank goodness. Clothes definitely better too. In a way I prefer to judge through them and how I look and feel, rather than numbers. However the number needs to go down, a lot. Slowly slowly.... I’m happy not to rush because I cam fee that this is the last time I will play this weight loss game. This time, each pound is going for keeps. Good luck all- so nice to hear your progress and share the trials!!

neverenoughchelseaboots · 04/12/2020 08:02

Morning all, I've maintained / put on .3lb which I'll definitely take after my mad tuesday staying up all night drinking and eating mince pies. I felt really down after that, a combination of cross and really upset. I don't usually feel guilty about excesses so it was an unusual feeling. i think my perceptions have changed and that's why it felt like a massive blow out but in reality not that unusual for how I usually am.

I've downloaded an app to try to cut down drinking where you pledge alcohol free days and it's worked both nights since I started. I'm hoping it helps mon-thur and then I might try dry january.

My monthly calories on the app estimate 13,500 a month from wine! 😧If I can cut right back and maintain the exercise I should see some good losses I think.

Start 25th Sep - 9st 10.8lbs /28.7% body fat
6th Nov- 9st 5.5lb / 27.3% body fat
20th Nov- 9st 4.8lbs / 27.2% body fat
27th Nov - 9st 4.3lbs / 27.1% body fat
Today - 9st 4.6lbs / 27.1% body fat

SwimmingOnEggshells · 04/12/2020 10:29

Well done @Angliski you're doing great :)

@neverenoughchelseaboots, I wouldn't be hard on yourself for .3 of a lb! I need a good blow out from time to time so I completely empathise. I love my wine too and find it so hard to stop at one. The only time I can stop at one is when there's only one glass left in the bottle! I've done dry January the last few years after very excessive Christmases and it's a great way to re-set for the new year. Will probably do it again this year.

Zero change for me this week, zero! So still at 128 3/4 lbs. I switched my scales back to stones and lbs because I'd like to see it change from 9 stone something to 8...hopefully it'll spur me on a little bit.

My sure it's my weekends that are holding me back so I'm going to do my best not to go mad this weekend.

OP posts:
Smellybluecheese · 04/12/2020 10:52

I'm down 1.6lb this week which I'm really pleased with after a blow out on Wednesday night.

Start 27th July 10 stone 4 lb
Today 9 stone 1lb
Loss 1 stone 3lb
Height 5'0.5"

It's been very slow going but like you @Angliski I'm happy to take it slowly this time as I want it gone for keeps. I really want to see 8 stone something before Christmas!
