Shorties trying to lose weight!

I started my fatbusting journey a couple of weeks ago and my plan is to document my progress here.

So far I've been doing a fair bit of cardio - 5 times per week - and I'm hoping this will help me get rid of some lbs. I posted a thread on AIBU looking for people's advice on only using exercise to lose weight but the general consensus is that no, I need to calorie restrict too. Boo! is what I say to that but maybe I need to face facts that I'm no longer a spring chicken and need to make a concerted effort with food too to shed anything!

Anyone want to join me?! @neverenoughchelseaboots

That’s my increased diet for maintenance. Slightly larger portion, plus Mango chutney, 1/2 a banana, Granola sprinkle.

Not exactly binging is it - so how will I ever afford the calories of a pizza or a pie? Confused

neverenoughchelseaboots · 28/11/2020 15:15

Amazing @modernfemininity 👏 you must be delighted!

That cake looks fab @MrsAvocet try to enjoy it and don't let the guilt spoil it.

Hello all!

5'1 shorty here.
Starting weight: 196lbs
Current weight: 115lbs
Goal weight: 110lbs

Well I give up. I've been trying to lose the last 5lbs for 4 months now and it's just not shifting - I cannot possibly do anymore exercise (Weights/HIIT/resistance 30 mins 6 days a week and run 4x 10km every week) and I can't eat less (1200-1500kcals a day) so I might just have to concede I will never get to my goal and everything I do now will just maintain!

Nosuchthingastoomuchcheese · 28/11/2020 21:58

Hi everyone just catching up. I feel huge compared to all of you, you are all tiny already!
I had a really good week, I thought! Smoothie for breakfast and soup for lunch, salad or low fat yoghurt for snack then a normal tea. But have maintained, no further loss. Still 10lb 6. Have got my period though, does that make you gain?

neverenoughchelseaboots · 28/11/2020 22:15

@Nosuchthingastoomuchcheese it certainly does for me - as much as 4lb. I tend to write off any weigh ins that week.

@DiesalFive that's incredible! You must be ultra fit with that amount of exercise. I can't imagine being a stone lighter than I am now and still striving for more. But I guess when it gets there you always see the next step. I'm not sure you'll get any additional motivation or tips on here given the amount you're doing, but maybe some friendly chat and support at least. I know I really enjoy hearing how everyone is doing. x

Nosuchthingastoomuchcheese · 28/11/2020 22:34

Thank you. I'm not sure if what I've been eating is ok. Smoothies fir breakfast made with almond milk then soup. That's it really and then my dinner!

Nosuchthingastoomuchcheese · 28/11/2020 22:39

Does anyone have any idea for healthy dips I could make? Healthy soups and smoothies? And salad dressings?
Need some inspiration !

Karcheer · 29/11/2020 00:21

Hi,

Can I join?
I’m 5ft and 56kg
Before original lockdown I was 52kg
My goal is about 48kg which I used to be and felt good.
Right now I feel really uncomfortable.
My diet is absolutely dreadful and I’m currently not doing any exercise.

I’d like to low carb and go to the gym 3 times a week.
Going to need a lot of encouragement as my husband lives off sweets, chocolate, crisps and chips and the fridge is always full of these and I’ve little self control!

DiesalFive · 29/11/2020 09:03

For a dip I make hummus without tahini and it's still delicious! Chickpeas, garlic, lemon juice and a teaspoon of coconut oil. Great with carrots and cucumber. Though if I'm trying to lose I skip the hummus and just have the veg.

Healthy soups are easy; lots of your fave veg roasted or sweated down in a wok (no oil or butter), whizzed with a couple of pints of veg stock, some added paprika, celery salt, and pepper. Yum!

For salad dressing I have a tablespoon of balsamic vinegar :)

Karcheer · 29/11/2020 09:22

What has everyone had for breakfast today?

DiesalFive · 29/11/2020 09:32

Can I also have a little rant about how being short means we burn no calories?!

Yesterday I did an 11k run, a 30-min dumbell workout and did a total of 18k steps.

And my calorie total burned for the day...1850kcal. It would take a half marathon to even get to 2000kcal which is supposedly the 'average'!

So much effort, but still so little to eat!

DiesalFive · 29/11/2020 09:35

@Karcheer

What has everyone had for breakfast today?
2 eggs on 1 slice of wholemeal toast :)

Lunch will be tuna salad and dinner is
veg stew. So around 1200kcal for the day, unless I succumb to an evening gin!

Karcheer · 29/11/2020 10:35

I’ve had blueberries and plain yogurt and a coffee. But I always start well!

modernfemininity · 29/11/2020 12:21

I do the 16:8 and skip breakfast in favour of black coffee. If you haven’t read the thread, to update you, I am at last at target, having dieted since June, and I am very happy about that Wink but also very worried about maintaining Confused.

@DiesalFive Thank you Very Much for the recipes. I make lots of soups but haven’t made hummous yet.

Can I say that although I don’t do keto I have skipped bread, pasta and pastry in my diet and it is this change that has helped me shift the last few pounds. I love carbs but i have finally got used to food without the obvious white carbs on the plate.

I ate quite a lot of eggs each week and cut a serving down to one egg. I eat a lot of things on a bed of warm veg or salad, even though this is not instagram-worthy as it is a bit odd. I try not to munch on even a morsel of food that is not part of a planned menu. I eat off a smaller plate or bowl.

I found also, a big meal blow out put my weight up, but then cutting right back after made me lose more weight rather than remaining static as I had before. I made sure there was a lot of roughage in my big meal too - skins on veg, or tomatoes. Eating the meal seemed to push up my metabolism briefly.

Not sure if any of this is helpful? I am now just under 110lbs and want to drop a little more to give my Christmas eating some weight wriggle room. Dropping more seems very hard right now but i have not been at target weight for long.

Christmas is cranking up - zoom get-togethers and adverts on the tv. We really need to complete this weight loss and maintain, very soon! StarGrinStar

If I can encourage you,.. feeling slim and, for me, having better legs, feels really REALLY GOOOOD. I felt grim after lockdown1 even though I was happy when eating lots!
Now, I am more flexible and I feel strong and healthy and I have lots of energy. I think about food less. I still enjoy cooking. As ever, I do have the cravings in the evening but the weigh in in the morning is more exciting and in the mornings I feel GREAT!!!. I have an early supper, drink wine or port some evenings but also then revert to Decaf black coffee to fill me up... and then the next morning‘a weight loss really helps my motivation.

The journey is arduous, but keep going. You are worth it!

modernfemininity · 29/11/2020 12:27

@Karcheer We keep chocolate in the garage. Not everyone can do that, if they don’t have a garage, but it doesn’t have to be in the nicely lit fridge, twinkling at you!

Maybe fill the fridge with veg!

Karcheer · 29/11/2020 14:07

Omelette with spring onion, mushroom, tomato, black olives and goats cheese for lunch.

I’m now entering the hard part of the day... afternoons I struggle not to snack!

Karcheer · 29/11/2020 19:11

Big decision do I avoid the roast potatoes, parsnips and Yorkshire’s :(

Karcheer · 29/11/2020 20:01

I had one small potato, one tiny bit of parsnip and a small Yorkshire pud.
Bit of a fail but I love roast dinner :(

neverenoughchelseaboots · 29/11/2020 20:14

Oh @Karcheer that sounds bleak. I think I'm a lot less disciplined than most of you on here, I'd not resist any of those as I don't see them as 'fatty'. And this is why my progress is slooow.

I had black tilapia with a slice of sourdough and light mayonnaise with lots of black pepper. The fish were huge! We had two whole ones between three adults and one would have been fine really.

I didn't make it out for a run all weekend so need to try and work really hard from tomorrow to Friday.

Karcheer · 29/11/2020 20:46

@neverenoughchelseaboots I’m not disciplined at all. I’m good on day 1... the fish sounds lovely 🐟

SwimmingOnEggshells · 29/11/2020 22:53

Welcome @DiesalFive , no real advice because you seem to be working so hard! But do you take measurements? Maybe you're at the building muscle stage and toning up?

@Karcheer sad as it is, I only have coffee for breakfast. I can't seem to eat breakfast and lose. Being 5'0 is a pain in the arse. And welcome to you too Smile.

I’ve made Christmas biscuits and choc brownies for a doorstep grandchildren delivery and I daren't add up calories from scraping the bowl!

Morningmaeve · 30/11/2020 09:16

In answer to the breakfast question @Karcheer - boiled egg and slice of rye/wholemeal sourdough toast (buttered) plus cup of tea with semi-skimmed milk. That is my usual weekend breakfast. During the week it varies: Skyr yoghurt maybe or mushrooms and spinach on toast, sometimes porridge. Like you, early part of day usually fine but things can unravel during the evenings - especially at weekends. I'll be happy to maintain this week.

SwimmingOnEggshells · 30/11/2020 11:57

Weekend was definitely maintenance calories for me. I managed to only have coffee for breakfast and homemade soup for lunch on both days, but on Saturday I had a Chinese take-away and three glasses of wine Blush. I didn't finish it so at least that's something.

This morning I did a session on my bike as well as my all-new homemade aerobics class - I basically stick on some cheesy 90s dance music (2Unlimited!) and bop around the place. It's actually harder than being on the bike! Thankfully no one can see me because I look like a complete mental case, swinging my arms around and kicking my legs in the air. It gets the endorphins going and I'm panting like a maniac after it so it must be good!

Plan for today is coffee for breakfast, salad leaves with mozzarella for lunch, and a small portion of lasagne for dinner.

Hello

I'm just catching up after going completely AWOL last week...between pmt and having a cold I have been awful! Really really awful with treats...chocolate and wine especially. But to be fair to myself I've still managed to exercise. I need a huge kick up the arse. I'm so impressed with all of your losses though! I am going to take inspiration from you all and get back on the wagon for a few weeks before xmas. I won't weigh until friday as I know it will be so disheartening.

Welcome to the newbies!!!

Dinner tonight will be shakshuka. Followed by herbal tea and early night....no wine!!!
