Shorties trying to lose weight!

SwimmingOnEggshells · 29/09/2020 12:02

I started my fatbusting journey a couple of weeks ago and my plan is to document my progress here.

So far I've been doing a fair bit of cardio - 5 times per week - and I'm hoping this will help me get rid of some lbs. I posted a thread on AIBU looking for people's advice on only using exercise to lose weight but the general consensus is that no, I need to calorie restrict too. Boo! is what I say to that but maybe I need to face facts that I'm no longer a spring chicken and need to make a concerted effort with food too to shed anything!

Anyone want to join me?! @neverenoughchelseaboots

Current weight: 60kg/132lbs

That sounds amazing @Beroltheperil!

I'd love some mountain walks. This time four years ago we were walking back down from Annapurna base camp and we're really missing some scenery and outdoor adventures. I've spent the week wistfully browsing ski chalets. I really hope we get to go this winter.

SwimmingOnEggshells · 17/11/2020 09:43

@Beroltheperil A weekend hiking (I'm guessing in the Alps?!) sounds soooo nice. I could do with a weekend away eating fondue and blowing off the cobwebs. Speaking of fondue I was thinking of having it on Christmas Eve this year (inspired by another thread)...argh Christmas! As long as I don't put on weight I'll be happy.

Plan for this week is coffee for breakfast, tiny lunches and normal dinners, no booze. My knee is acting up again so I'm going to have to ease off on my exercise which is very annoying.

Beroltheperil · 17/11/2020 09:45

@SwimmingOnEggshells yes Swiss Alps... beautiful Autumn sunshine and very quiet. Fondue on Christmas eve is a lovely idea!! Sorry about your knee, it makes such a difference physically and mentally when you can exercise.

SwimmingOnEggshells · 17/11/2020 09:49

I'm now looking up raclette/fondue combos grills on amazon...what's wrong with me?!

Can I check in? Five feet nothing and 9 stone 4. Sad Heaviest I’ve ever been in my life. None of my clothes fit and I look and feel dreadful.

My mum died at the start of lockdown so lockdown plus grieving plus shedloads of ice cream = fat.

I’m just not managing to have the discipline to shift it. I’ve been a bit overweight a couple of other times in my life and just got rid of it with diet and exercise. But I can’t seem to find the self discipline this time round. Sad

Got to do something though, so I’m open to ideas!

SwimmingOnEggshells · 17/11/2020 10:44

@Rainallnight sending you my condolences and a big hug, that is so sad. I've also lost a parent and it is horrible.

Hang out here for chats and motivation. The group seem to vary in terms of our success (me being the least successful I think) but god loves a trier!

@modernfemininity thank you for the16:8 advice, it’s my first time doing it (or any form of diet actually). I’m not convinced enough of the benefits to know if I’ll continue with it yet, I’ve always been vehemently anti anything that could be seen as restrictive or faddy but here I am! I’m mainly doing it to prevent me having the double breakfasts I’d got into the habit of having when pregnant/breastfeeding. I’m not finding it too bad so far; we have little ones so eat early in the evening anyway and I don’t often snack after dinner so it’s just that first few hours in the morning to get through. I think I’ve lost a tiny bit but I fluctuate 1-2 kilos anyway so only time will tell.

@WhistlersandJugglers I’m no runner but getting out for a brisk walk always helps me feel better mentally as well as physically.

@SwimmingOnEggshells don’t order your raclette/fondue set from wowcher. I made that mistake last year as we were planning on having it on NYE, it never turned up and I had to fight for months to get my refund. Wowcher denied all knowledge and the other company said they’d cancelled my order and refunded wowcher so it was their responsibility... On a more positive note I can highly recommend pigs in blankets to be dipped. Although maybe I should recommend that on this particular thread.

@Rainallnight so sorry for your loss, be kind to yourself. Losing a loved one takes time to recover from.

Angliski · 17/11/2020 13:34

Checking in with good news. Four weeks in and ten pounds down. Now 14.4 which is still massive but great progress. Actually baby’s schedule helps a lot as it’s an early dinner for everyone now so no late night snacks or meals. Also, now I am back home and in my fabulous new kitchen, which feels like a cooking show- I just don’t want to sully it with disordered eating! Plus, I want to set an example to my 10 month old so not being extreme or cutting whole food groups out, just cutting down. I did have two pieces of toast and two eggs this am as no dinner last night as not peckish and was super hungry on waking. If I can get to 13 something by end of year I would be chuffed. And aim to get to goal of 8.5-9 by mid summer next year.

modernfemininity · 17/11/2020 15:39

@Angliski have you considered a short period of cutting out white and beige carbs? That’s how my hubby and I started, and the weight loss was nice and steady. It was really motivating and, at that point, for us, we were able to eat loads. We had big platefuls. We didn’t eat much sugar or puds but our portion sizes of main meals were quite large.

We cut out bread, bagels and potatoes, and instead had vegetables, lentils, and sweet potatoes. I had some success with making cauliflower rice. I make it in a blender, because otherwise the mess of a grater would be a shock to your new kitchen and it would not be worth it. It stinks the house out though!

It you have a little tot to feed it will be hard to diet when you are surrounded by food and multiple meal times.

I agree with @parbor about the 16:8 - I don’t think of myself as a dieter normally, but needs must!!Grin I am almost at target weight of under 50kg (48kg would be awesome as I still have love handles) but getting there is proving nigh on impossible. I was near 50kg today at 50.5kg. I think the 16:8 just makes me not eat for a window and I delay some eating, and so I eat less overall. I also skip some evening snacks or Wine because I have started the 16 window.
It is getting harder now because I am eating less and so I get hungrier quicker, and I am slim enough as just under 8st so my motivation is waning.

I plan on gaining 7lbs at Christmas, no question! So I will be dieting again in January. Confused

WhistlersandJugglers · 17/11/2020 15:59

Yay, I've got my name back. I got logged out and the password reset was going to my junk mail and it took me days to figure it out. It's lucky I don't work in It.

neverenoughchelseaboots · 17/11/2020 18:36

@Angliski amazing effort 💪👏. Give yourself a huge pat on the back.

SwimmingOnEggshells · 17/11/2020 18:57

@Angliski 4 weeks and 10lbs loss? Wow that's an amazing achievement! Well done you. That must be so motivating :)

@Parbor Will avoid wowcher so! Amazon is probably hit and miss too. I'll make sure I've a good look at the reviews :)

I did ok foodwise today: salad and egg for lunch and fish cake, corn on cob and a few wedges for dinner. Now just to keep it at that!

modernfemininity · 17/11/2020 19:02

@Angliski - Goodness me, yes 10lb in four weeks is ace!!

modernfemininity · 17/11/2020 19:11

@SwimmingOnEggshells have courage and be strong. Dinner-lite done! You’ve got this! I say to myself “I fancy X Sad... but I can wait to have it in the morning Halo”. I don’t always succeed, but I try.

Tonight for dinner we had cauli rice, a homemade moussaka meaty mix, steamed cabbage, swede “chips” and half a small roast sweet potato. The type of meal where you’re stuffed for half an hour and then super hungry again!

Encouraged by other’s exercise I also went for a quick walk today! That’s the encouragement factor from this thread.

TheDogsMother · 18/11/2020 22:38

Can I rejoin ? The wedding celebrations have gone on for three weeks now so time I got back on the wagon 😂

neverenoughchelseaboots · 19/11/2020 08:49

Good on you @TheDogsMother absolutely you should be celebrating. x

I bought a load of new workout clothes in the Fabletics sale that arrived yesterday. I thought if I go a bit mad then something will be good enough to keep and I'll send most of it back. Trouble is there's very little in the returns pile 😬

I'll have to use it as motivation to keep on at it to justify the amount of new kit!

Off for another lunch time run today, will be my third this week. But I have had wine every night so it's been a mixed bag. (Sneaky step on the scales suggests that running can overcome wine though as I was .7lb down)

SwimmingOnEggshells · 19/11/2020 09:31

Of course you can rejoin @TheDogsMother! You're right to enjoy the celebrations and well done for coming back :)

I must check out Fabletics, I'm guessing their lengths are good for us shorties? And that's great that you've seen a loss despite a few sneaky drinks! When I used to run I found the weight would fall off me :)

As for me, well, struggling on. I was extremely strict during the day, had a regular dinner and then went for a 25 minute power walk. I was absolutely sweating by the time I got home. I don't normally go for walks but with my knee acting up I thought it would be a good compromise, plus with wearing my FitBit again I can now see how little I actually move, 3,000 steps a day on average!

And my supplements arrived yesterday - I bought a big tub of inositol - it's a B vitamin and research has found it to help with insulin resistance and reduces weight for women with PCOS. I have mild PCOS so if anyone knows anything about all of that, inositol works in the same way as Metformin. I've had success regulating my period with it before :)

The other one I bought is called Acetyl L Carnitine and I've never taken this one before. The jury is out of whether it helps with weight loss but it has been shown to help with cognitive function for Alzheimer's patients so it won't do me any harm anyway!

Thank you @SwimmingOnEggshells @neverenoughchelseaboots. I have one last day of partying for DH's (still sounds odd saying DH Grin) big, big birthday. We'll have champagne later and I've ordered a delivery from Cote At Home, then back to it. I must check out Fabletics as I would like some more workout gear. I've been following Jillian Michaels VIP workout calendar with reasonable results. Lets just say my infrastructure is sound but the cladding needs a bit of work !! I hope the supplements bring some good results for you never

neverenoughchelseaboots · 19/11/2020 10:16

Fabletics have different style length leggings and also different leg lengths if you know what I mean. So you can still choose cropped, 7/8s, full length and they'll sit where they're supposed to. And they don't go thin abs show your bum when you bend over!

And pockets for your phone in the leggings so I can use run keeper without some appendage to strap my phone to me. I'm a convert!

You do have to 'join' to get the discounts (40% off everything at the moment) but then you can just cancel so it doesn't cost anything as such.

My only word of warning is there's some pink outfits that look lovely on the website but a bit like a body on two sausages in real life. Grin

Smellybluecheese · 19/11/2020 14:52

I'm rejoining too after a few weeks off for half term and my daughter's birthday and generally being fed up of restricting myself to 1200 calories a day (it's so hard being short).
I have managed to roughly maintain so still a stone down from my starting point in July. I'm 9 stone 4 which is 2 lb off being a healthy weight so I really really want to get there with a bit to spare before christmas. So I've been back to 1200 calories a day, 5k runs 3 times a week and yoga every day.
There's been a lot of success on this thread since I was last here!

Knittingnanny · 19/11/2020 23:18

Smelly blue cheese, how tall are you?

Beroltheperil · 20/11/2020 05:58

Morning!

Weighing in this morning with a 2.5lb loss, this is the weekend weight gain of 2lb taken back off plus an extra 0.5lb...I'm delighted with that! bmi 24.7.... woohoo!! I now need to keep going and be a bit more sensible at weekends. 9 1/2 stone is now within reach, hopefully at the next weigh in!!!

Good luck to the re joiners. Slow and steady wins the race!!

neverenoughchelseaboots · 20/11/2020 09:25

Woo - good result @Beroltheperil

Pleased to report a loss here too. 0.7lbs down in the last fortnight. It doesn't sound a lot like that, but I'm 6lb down since we started this thread and for a shortie I think that's pretty good going.

If I can keep this pace and general trend I'll be happy because I don't feel a slave to a diet and I'm not finding it too restrictive. I'm also delighted that I can see the changes, especially in my legs. I think it's more the tone than the size but they are visibly different, not the case with the back and tum yet, but still.

Start 25th Sep - 9st 10.8lbs /28.7% body fat
23rd Oct - 9st 7.1lb /27.8% body fat
30th Oct - 9st 8.8lb / 28.3% body fat
6th Nov- 9st 5.5lb / 27.3% body fat
Today- 9st 4.8lbs / 27.2% body fat

Smellybluecheese · 20/11/2020 10:22

@Knittingnanny I'm 5 foot and half an inch/153cm

So weighing in this morning with a loss of 2lb from Monday (when I started again).
Starting weight 27/7/20: 144.2lb/ 65.4kg/BMI 27.9
Current weight 20/11/20: 129.8lb/58.9kg/BMI 25.1

I'm a stone down from my starting point. Another stone to go. Plod, plod, plod. Will be going out for a run at lunchtime.

Well done @Beroltheperil and @neverenoughchelseaboots !

Morningmaeve · 20/11/2020 13:29

Well done to you all! I can't join you in reporting a loss, which I am not surprised about given last weekend's indulgences. 9 stone 7.8 today, which puts me back where I was two weeks ago. Determined to remain more focused this weekend.
