Shorties trying to lose weight!

SwimmingOnEggshells · 29/09/2020 12:02

I started my fatbusting journey a couple of weeks ago and my plan is to document my progress here.

So far I've been doing a fair bit of cardio - 5 times per week - and I'm hoping this will help me get rid of some lbs. I posted a thread on AIBU looking for people's advice on only using exercise to lose weight but the general consensus is that no, I need to calorie restrict too. Boo! is what I say to that but maybe I need to face facts that I'm no longer a spring chicken and need to make a concerted effort with food too to shed anything!

Anyone want to join me?! @neverenoughchelseaboots

Current weight: 60kg/132lbs
Target: 50kg/110lbs
Height: 5'0 :(

Checking in :) I’m 13st 7 Shock aiming to be under 13st by Christmas and under 11st by April.

WhistlersandJugglers · 20/11/2020 16:55

I'm feeling a bit bloated and icky the last few days and my weight seems to be fluctuating. I got a few different weights between yesterday and today, different by pounds even though I'm not eating much. One of the dc had a stomach bug so I'm chalking it up to being a bit ill. Hopefully will be back to normal soon.

MrsAvocet · 20/11/2020 18:08

I'm unchanged, but I've just won an amazing cake in a competition so next week could be bad.Grin

Knittingnanny · 20/11/2020 22:48

A stone off is good when you are short, I’m 5’2” and want to get to 9 st but might settle for nearer 9 than 91/2!

Morningmaeve · 21/11/2020 08:11

I'm 5ft 2in @Knittingnanny and would also settle for being nearer 9 stone than 9 1/2 which is my current weight. Saying that, when I was 10 stone I was aiming for 9 1/2 which I have achieved Smile.

Nosuchthingastoomuchcheese · 21/11/2020 08:18

Can I join please. I'm 5ft 1 and 10st 8. Would like to lose at least a stone. I did lose half a stone last month but now seem stuck. I'm a bit of a binge eater and sugar addict and I also give up too easily. There is also always treats in the house which makes it hard!!
The only exercise I really do is going for walks or exercise bike, need to do some online classes! I plan everything I'm going to eat but then go off plan!
Any tips?
And well done everyone on their amazing losses!

Nosuchthingastoomuchcheese · 21/11/2020 09:03

Just weighed and it said 10st 6 which is a weight I havent seen for a year so that has given me a boost!

Knittingnanny · 21/11/2020 12:28

Nosuchthing it’s so hard when you are feeding children as well, I sympathise. I find it so much easier now it’s just the two of us food wise ( would rather have them little and here again though)
The only way I can lose weight is to meticulously keep a food diary. I’m old so use a pen and notebook but also record my weight on the nhs to see the graph
At first I weigh everything as I was really underestimating sizes, but after a couple of weeks I could make fairly accurate guesses. I did 900 calories for the first couple of weeks then 1000 for 2 months. I’m within a few pounds of pre pregnancy weight now ( but children are 38,35 and 29!) so increasing a bit to 1200. It’s boring but I’m so determined not to be old and overweight as it really impacts on my arthritic knees.
Good weekend of mindful eating to everyone! I’m making scones to use up some buttermilk but am doing a lockdown doorstop delivery to my grandchildren and just keeping one for me at home and maybe 2 for my husband!

Parbor · 21/11/2020 15:27

Well done on all the losses, very impressive. I’m weighing a little less than a week ago but still within my fluctuation zone so unsure if it counts as a loss yet.
Managing to keep to the 16:8 but probably not 1200 calories. Not really sure as I’m not actually counting calories but I’ve had a couple of days of less than ideal eating. I think my appetite may be slightly smaller though as I’ve felt uncomfortably full after eating a couple of times this week. Finding it hard to get my portion right sometimes.

Nosuchthingastoomuchcheese · 21/11/2020 15:29

What sort of things ar you all eating? Husband is vegan and I often dont bother to cook meat just for me. Kids do have meat though. I've veg curry for tea with cauliflower rice

Nosuchthingastoomuchcheese · 21/11/2020 21:59

Had a really good day but then said yes to sticky toffee pudding which I didnt even enjoy as it was so sweet. That then messed up my blood sugars so I was starving and had to have crumpets with cheese on!

Smellybluecheese · 22/11/2020 10:01

@Nosuchthingastoomuchcheese I’m pesce, husband and daughter are not. Tonight we are having a lentil shepherds pie, last night was pesto salmon with couscous. We have a 5 week meal plan we repeat. It’s all child friendly stuff so I use up the veg box delivery stuff cooking more interesting stuff for husband and I for lunch now we are working from home.
It is hard doing this when also catering for children (who tend to eat nothing but carbs, at least mine does). That’s why calorie counting by works for me as I can have the same, just have to watch my portions.
The pattern is:
Mon - pasta
Tues - Mexican
Wed - jacket potato
Thurs - Curry
Fri - pizza
Sat - fish
Sun - English (roast, toad in the hole etc)
@Knittingnanny 900-1000 calories a day! Amazing stuff, that sounds hard.

Our road had a Xmas lights switch on last night so I ended up drinking mulled wine and have put on a pound overnight Hmm

Smellybluecheese · 22/11/2020 10:02

Should have said, we eat mainly vegetarian food apart from at the weekend.

neverenoughchelseaboots · 22/11/2020 11:17

Some regular meals here would be:

  • dhal
  • mackerel and sweet potato rosti
  • black bean burritos
  • fish tacos (or black bean)
  • crab linguine
  • Butternut squash and chickpea stew
  • Spinach and chickpea curry
  • salmon poke bowls
  • pea and Za'atar fritters
  • prawn spaghetti

I'm not really changing main meals apart from stopping if I feel full. We already eat fairly healthy (and on a 16:8 schedule I've realised).

My downfall is definitely being in the office or at other people's houses. If it's there, I have no will power. Our team of five at work would have a pack of biscuits every day! So lockdown is actually easier for me but I know it's be the opposite for a lot of people who eat because there's nothing else to do!

We've always been a sugary snack free household too. It's both good in that I don't have a lot of the usual bad habits to break, but that also means there's not many levels to pull either.

That wine has got a lot to answer for!

Angliski · 22/11/2020 14:23

Checking in:) down a couple more lbs to 14.1 will be thrilled if I can get into high 12’s for new year

neverenoughchelseaboots · 23/11/2020 19:57

@Angliski you're on a roll. Good effort.

I'm feeling bad that I've not exercised all weekend so about to try an online spin class. It looks hard so I'm obviously procrastinating on here instead Grin

Angliski · 23/11/2020 21:41

Hah! @neverenoughchelseaboots I’ve been huffing and puffing through twenty mins of figure 8 dance class- my friend and I zoom each other to do it as I have had it 6 months and not done a single step till now! Need the accountability in lockdown as it’s not as much fun as leaving baby and husband and cycling off to a class!

But too carby this last few days. I need to rein it in. Getting bored of cooking. Dangerous. Must. Avoid. Toast.

SwimmingOnEggshells · 24/11/2020 11:23

Mediocre weekend for me so I doubt there'll be a loss this Friday, sigh. And I'm still not exercising because of my knee, but I've been dutifully doing the physio exercises my DH has prescribed me (he's not a physio but he's been to so many at this stage he might as well be!). Anyway, they seem to be really helping which is great. I just want to make sure it's fully better before I get at it again.

Food-wise it's all salads for lunch this week and a regular dinner. I'm also continuing with no snacks and no booze (yawn!)

@Angliski you're are killing the weight loss, well done!

Angliski · 24/11/2020 12:38

@SwimmingOnEggshells this is the only advantage of being majorly massive- that the first couple of stones ought not to be toooooo bad. Chicken soup this lunchtime . Boiled egg and toast for breakfast. Salad and maybe some poached fish and veggies for dinner. Husband and baby get steak pie and pesto pasta. Envy

SwimmingOnEggshells · 24/11/2020 13:34

Having a different dinner to the rest of your family shows serious determination! I can't manage that at all :)

neverenoughchelseaboots · 24/11/2020 13:41

@SwimmingOnEggshells sounds rotten that you're still injured. They say it's diet that makes the most difference in weight loss but I think if you're losing the last few pounds the exercise really does make a difference. And it's about how you're feeling and how it helps mindset. Hoping those physio moves help. x

My spin class last night was horrific, I only managed 15 mins but I think it's because my body isn't used to that exercise. I'll keep with it and try to build up. I managed another fastest 5k at lunch so I'm definitely making progress on the running front. Smile

Last night was black bean burrito with sweet potato wedges and no wine.

Not christened tonight's yet but maybe some sort of mushroom pasta.

SwimmingOnEggshells · 24/11/2020 13:46

@neverenoughchelseaboots I could do a spin class but couldn't run down to the end of my road! it's mad how our bodies adjust isn't it?

Your meal plans sound delicious by the way. I love mexican flavours, sadly my kids aren't so keen. I've been trying to wean them on to the taste of chipotle but they're having none of it!

@MrsAvocet how was the cake you won!!?

This week I have lost less than 1lb. This is why I like weighing in kilos. At least I can record that I am 300g down.

I hope you don’t mind me sharing the success that I look so much better in my clothes now. I am more nicely proportioned.

I actually feel taller, now slim. However, I remember before, when I was this weight years ago, that in social groups I felt very small. Always, I wore heels.

Do any of you shorties feel very small, and sometimes laughed at?

Another question: I still have a flabby c-section overhang tummy. Has anyone ever successfully reduced this?

MrsAvocet · 25/11/2020 16:25

I've not received it yet @modernfemininity - it's going to be delivered on Saturday. It was a cake with nuts in but one of my sons is allergic so the lady has kindly offered to bake us a different one so that he can share it. Probably wise as it means less temptation for me!
I have a section overhang too, though its loads better than it was. I've started doing some core stability exercises which I think is helping. I just do 10-15 mins a day as I hate it but I reckon little and often should help a bit. I don't suppose I will ever have a completely flat stomach again, but its not as bad as it was. In fact I will do my 15 mins of torture right now. I'm just back from a bike ride so may as well do my exercises before I have a shower. It's been the first dry day in ages here today so it was great to get some fresh air and I feel invigorated diet/health wise. I'd started to allow bad habits to creep back in during the rainy lockdown days but have regained my resolve today.
Keep going everyone!

neverenoughchelseaboots · 26/11/2020 09:39

How's everyone doing?

I got back on the bike last night and still found it really hard and it also meant my run this morning was really tough with heavy legs. But I'm down a few ozs and really want to have a good weigh in in the morning.

How's everyone feeling about Christmas? I was plotting some milestones thinking if I could get to 9st 3lb by the week before Christmas and then not put on more than 3/3.5 lbs that would be okay. But then I realised it would likely be February before I'm back to where I am now!

I really want to have a cosy, indulgent Christmas, especially after a boring year, but the fact it's so hard to claw it back is a real quandary.
