Hello & Welcome

Following on from the September thread...

This year is going by so quickly; before we know it festive movies will be on the TV and we'll be prepping for Christmas. I for one am going the extra mile to make it special for my beloved family and bugger C19 (must add we won’t be breaking the rule of 6!)

Every year part of my Christmas prep includes going all out to feel that bit healthier, fitter and slimmer. I’m happy to say this year I’m ahead of the game due to the people and support on these LOSE IT! threads. Thank you!

If you yourself want to feel healthier, fitter and a little bit more svelte, jump on board, there’s plenty of room. The ladies already here are supportive and knowledgeable!

This bit is copied from my post on here.

Me personally? In the main it’s been a way of life for nearly 3 years and I’ve lost over 40lbs. I had a bit of blip at the start of C19. After all my hard work I just started eating with impunity. Before I knew it I was10lbs up in a few short weeks! I needed to get back on it and COVID proof myself 😬 I calorie count, log via MFP app, Intermittent fast, eat-low carb Mediterranean style aka Fast800 Plan and try to stay well hydrated.

There are so many enjoyable lifestyle options out there without the need to resort to extreme measures. Whatever way you choose, it needs to be enjoyable & sustainable for the long term. This is a long term commitment rather than a quick fix. I also rarely drink alcohol and keep sugar to a minimum. I exercise by doing walking vids & strength sessions with lite weighs.

As no one size fits all members need to follow their own way of eating. Nonetheless this thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

There is no shaming, competition or harsh words to be found on this thread. We are in this together.

@SunshineCake hope you fit your run in!

BobbinThreadbare123 · 12/10/2020 09:57

I have been reading the thread but not joining in enough.
Started second week of Oct at 73.3 kg. Weighed this morning at 72.4 kg. I guess it's ok and I are a load of crap over the weekend (note to self to not buy Minstrels again because they have changed them and they're horrible).

FatGirlShrinking · 12/10/2020 12:13

Thanks guys, I was a bit shocked when I saw the photo from 2012, I was coming up on 19 stone then!

Just saw this in the local rag for my city:

"Wednesday last week (October 7) marked 100 days since the local lockdown started. This weekend, people in Leicester marked another milestone, having been under some level of restriciton for 200 days when counting the national lockdown as well."

Christ only knows what today's announcement will bring but I don't see us being anything less than tier 2, and given our cases are slightly higher now than when we went into lockdown restrictions there's the potential argument for tier 3 as 'local restrictions have not bought down rate of transmission'.

SunshineCake · 12/10/2020 13:04

I did @Galvantula! I was determined I would so I went at 7 and sacrificed distance. I was super speedy and did my best time for km number three. My others were pretty good too and the last one was the slowest. Been doing housework all day and will run again maybe tomorrow and if not on Wednesday so hopefully for a good WOW as I've got almost a pound off since last weigh in.

SunshineCake · 13/10/2020 16:39

Hi everyone

Where are you all?

I have running issues. I had started going Monday, Wednesday and Friday rather than every other day and have been out of my routine the last two weeks due to a sore knee and feeling off. I ran yesterday and then this morning felt a compulsion to go again. When I was pregnant 20 years ago I used to get a bit jumpy if I didn't swim twice a week and it feels like a similar feeling but would result in me running every week day. Does it matter? I am only doing 5km at the moment as that is all I have time to do before the school sun and I thought I would concentrate on trying to go faster. I also don't understand why I suddenly feel like this??

TheRealHousewife · 13/10/2020 16:54

Hi Everyone

I’m still out of sorts but better than I was. I have a zoom meeting soon so will catch up with thread later.

@SunshineCake could you be addicted to ‘runners high’? You release a lot of feel good endorphins during aerobic exercise. Hope you’re soon feeling better.

Love & positive thoughts to everyone. See you all for WOW tomorrow 😬

Trisolaris · 13/10/2020 16:54

Hey, I’m struggling a bit at the moment.

Been on my period and feeling really fatigued. So much so that I needed a nap two days in a row (once on a zoom call, luckily my screen was off!) I have wondered whether low iron was the cause so am currently starting my days with orange juice and iron tablets! I just tried my first run in a few days and managed 10 minutes and had to give up. I just want to eat all the carbs and sleep 😴

FatGirlShrinking · 13/10/2020 17:22

@Trisolaris you could be coming down with something, that's how I felt in the first few days of having a chest infection before I actually started coughing and having a temperature.

Make sure you're getting plenty of good nutrition, rest and just looking after yourself.

SunshineCake · 13/10/2020 17:25

Hope you both feel better soon @TheRealHousewife and @Trisolaris.

I'm not sure I get runners high. I'm always glad it is over and proud I've done it but not sure I feel any kind of buzz. Also, at 6.45 when I've been awake a few minutes, it is cold and dark I did wonder why I wanted to go out running!

fallfallfall · 13/10/2020 18:06

Hi everyone, all’s well over here. Thanksgiving was on Sunday so loads of rich food. Leftovers for dinner(s) means more time to exercise.
Steady busy with Christmas on my mind.

SunshineCake · 13/10/2020 19:06

Sounds like you've had a lovely time, @fallfallfall.

fallfallfall · 13/10/2020 20:39

Just the two of us @SunshineCake. More an issue of distance than anything. Sons live 6-8 hrs mountain drive away. But I did a great job of a turkey roast (new to me concept vs massive bird), dressing, au gratin mashed potatoes, carrots with honey and dill, Brussels sprouts that were cooked with bacon onion and cabbage (amazing new recipe for me). Loads of butter in all but the turkey then gravy and pie...
DH left his felted slippers in London when we last visited dd, so I’m doing up another set for him and one pair for my sons gf(I like her, I hope she’s a keeper).
Snow spotted on the mountain tops.

SunshineCake · 13/10/2020 20:48

Sounds lovely. I really want snow for Christmas. We need a white Christmas!!🎄☃️❄️

fallfallfall · 13/10/2020 21:25

I’d mail you some @SunshineCake but the UK asks for massive taxes on the stuff. Shoveling does burn calories.

Puffalicious · 13/10/2020 21:53

Hi all,

I've just found this thread. I'm sitting here in tears as I've just clocked myself in the mirror of our holiday cottage (half term here) and I look huge. It's slowly crept on over the last 5 years and I'm so unhappy.

I don't know what I weigh but aim to buy scales when I return home. What I think I weigh puts me into a BMI of 31- obese. I.am devastated.

I was never super skinny but was a size 8 before children (eldest 16) and used to joke I put on a dress size with every child. I was relatively happy at a 14 since youngest 8 years ago but I'm now buying a 16 and all my lovely clothes don't fit. I don't think I eat masses, I'm vegetarian, but perhaps it's metabolism as age comes- 49 next month and peri menopausal.

I used to swim twice a week pre lockdown but the pools are all still closed and I've not much motivation for classes these days. I do walk but not as much as I used to and I don't get much chance to hill walk like I used to.

I suppose I hate feeling unlike myself- I'm outgoing and confident usually but I feel like a wee, old, fat wummin. It doesn't help.that my best friends are taller and thinner (naturally) and can eat what they like.

I'm all at sea where to start. Don't want to do WW SW or any of that- calorie counting or 5:2 ,which I don't really know much about. What would you lovely MNs suggest? I probably need to lose 3 stoneBlush

Puffalicious · 13/10/2020 21:55

I meant- should I do calorie counting or 5:2 (which I don't know much about)?

SunshineCake · 13/10/2020 22:26

Thanks anyway @fallfallfall❄️☃️❄️☃️❄️☃️❄️☃️

DH just said I shouldn't run ever day so I thought good, permission to have a day off. Not two minutes later I was fretting as I want to run Confused.

Welcome @Puffalicious. Two years ago I was obese. I weighed almost 14 stone. I finally saw a couple of people and discovered I was intolerant to lots of foods. I gave them all up and lost 1.5 stone very quickly. I have then spent the time since losing he same half a stone goodness knows how many times. I am 48 and peri menopausal.

Then in April I was in bed for over two weeks, poorly. Think I had covid but I certainly had trouble breathing. I wondered if I should write goodbye letters to my kids. I had no energy to pick up a pen though.

In May I started running with the couch to 5K app and also started intermittent fasting. I ate between 12.30-830. Weight slowly came off.

Now I can run 10km. I eat lunch at 12.30-1pm, snack around three, dinner at six and don't eat again. I have lost 15-16 lbs since May and feel better.

Could you be intolerant to food? Could you find the time to start using the C25km app if you want to exercise while you wait for the pools to open? I have a dog so walk her at least once a day for at least an hour. I drink lots of water.

I did 5:2 and lost a stone and then nothing. I felt it messed up my metabolism for a long time and never felt hungry. IF is better for me now. I can't be bothered with calorie counting as I cook a lot from scratch and can't be bothered with weighing everything.

Good luck. You can do it. If you want a giggle I have many posts on our previous threads where I have stamped my feet as felt the heaviest on the thread and was losing the least. I was the best at gaining the same weight numerous times. Everyone kept supporting me and never once got cross.

We've all got each other's backs on here.

fallfallfall · 13/10/2020 22:48

@SunshineCake are you wanting to run because you’re worried about weight gain?

Puffalicious · 13/10/2020 23:26

Thank you for the welcome sunshine cake I need you lovely people. I'll need to look into IF - don't know anything about it but willing to learn!

I miss running. Back in the day B.C.( before kids) I ran 10Ks then half marathons and loved it. Unfortunately I buggered my knee quite badly during a race and it's never recovered properly, and I broke the ankle of the other leg twice a few years ago (lordy!) therefore I swim!Grin. I would like to do a dance class (I used to be a ballet dancer until age 17) but am too embarrassed that I'd be knackered and not able to keep going.Blush

Puffalicious · 13/10/2020 23:33

I don't reckon I'm intolerant but I should cut out sugar and cut down gluten for sure- about 7 years ago (after DC3) i attended a naturopathologist who suggested this and I did lose 21 pounds and kept it off for about 2 years, but with age the weight has crept up.

fallfallfall · 14/10/2020 01:36

Welcome @Puffalicious.
So many different weight loss options, you need to find one that works for you.
I’m guesstimating my calories that this point, fairly certain after years of weighing food it’s 12-1400. Which at 63 is fine.
I’m loving Leslie Sansone still, I pay monthly for the app and stream onto the living room TV.
No snacking after supper ever. No alcohol ever.

SunshineCake · 14/10/2020 06:24

@fallfallfall it surprises me to say no. I have gone up a couple of pounds and I don't get upset like I used to. I remind myself I have lost over a stone and I can get the pounds off. I have this week. I would still like to lose more as I think I'm still classed as overweight but I'm also doing it to help my lungs as I have asthma and still have trouble with chest discomfort.

FatGirlShrinking · 14/10/2020 07:20

TheRealHousewife · 14/10/2020 08:39

Good morning 😊

Welcome @Puffalicious ... I totally remember that feeling when you see yourself for the first time without the denial filter. Totally earth shattering but it serves as a good impetus! Have you got a photo you can put on your fridge/cupboard that would serve as a prompt. The first post on this thread has some useful links to get you started. You can do it if you’re in the right headspace.

WOW = 9st 2lb No change in the last 2weeks. Pain meds can slow things down as they cause me to retain water and not so many loo visits 😳

Good luck with your weighings.

OP posts:
CescaNicole · 14/10/2020 08:52

My 1st WOW!
Last week (weighed on 09/10/20):
-1 lb
14/10/20: - 3 lb
Total loss: 4lb 😊

Pleased with that result. Had a rubbish day yesterday, hit a brick wall with tiredness (2 under 2 is no joke!), both kids screaming ALL.THE.TIME! I didn't track my food on mfp for the day and definitely finished off a packet of jaffa cakes. But back on it today! Especially as we have decided last minute to book a lockdown wedding!! Taking advantage of the low prices due to covid even though it only means 15 guests max. We only wanted something small anyway. So I need to squeeze into a wedding dress come December....!!

You're all very good going for runs etc. This week I have only done one short yoga session and one PP HIIT workout. I want to go for it tbh but I'm really scared of the whole diastasis recti issue 😅

Hope you're all doing OK.

@candacewasalwaysright I love les mills on demand, I used to have it before pregnant and so handy to have access to the classes at home!! I need to rejoin tbh!
@FatGirlShrinking you look so amazing in those photos!! Well done!!
@Puffalicious I hope you're OK, I really feel for you reading your post. You can do this!!! One day at a time.
