Hello & Welcome

Following on from the September thread...

This year is going by so quickly; before we know it festive movies will be on the TV and we'll be prepping for Christmas. I for one am going the extra mile to make it special for my beloved family and bugger C19 (must add we won’t be breaking the rule of 6!)

Every year part of my Christmas prep includes going all out to feel that bit healthier, fitter and slimmer. I’m happy to say this year I’m ahead of the game due to the people and support on these LOSE IT! threads. Thank you!

If you yourself want to feel healthier, fitter and a little bit more svelte, jump on board, there’s plenty of room. The ladies already here are supportive and knowledgeable!

This bit is copied from my post on here.

Me personally? In the main it’s been a way of life for nearly 3 years and I’ve lost over 40lbs. I had a bit of blip at the start of C19. After all my hard work I just started eating with impunity. Before I knew it I was10lbs up in a few short weeks! I needed to get back on it and COVID proof myself 😬 I calorie count, log via MFP app, Intermittent fast, eat-low carb Mediterranean style aka Fast800 Plan and try to stay well hydrated.

There are so many enjoyable lifestyle options out there without the need to resort to extreme measures. Whatever way you choose, it needs to be enjoyable & sustainable for the long term. This is a long term commitment rather than a quick fix. I also rarely drink alcohol and keep sugar to a minimum. I exercise by doing walking vids & strength sessions with lite weighs.

As no one size fits all members need to follow their own way of eating. Nonetheless this thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

There is no shaming, competition or harsh words to be found on this thread. We are in this together.

Thanks *@rivierliedje though I don't understand the numbers !

Galvantula · 29/09/2020 11:18

Checking in!

My new hovering area seems to be 58-59kg, which is good as I stuck at 60 for a long time. :)

Started my day with an hour's reasonably paced walk with a friend, which was nice.

TheRealHousewife · 29/09/2020 11:32

Hi @Galvantula I’ve just converted my 9st 2lbs = 128lbs = 58kg so I’ll join you if that’s ok. End of August beginning of September I’d dropped below 9st (which put me in normal BMI range) but it hasn’t stuck. My BMI is currently bang on the border at 25. I’d like to see it lower by the end of October. I’m petite framed and under 5ft so I am still overweight at the moment. Nonetheless I’m still about 20lbs less than this time last year.

MrsJonesAndMe · 29/09/2020 14:30

That's great progress @SunshineCake I don't know how you're covering that much distance though - I'll have done about 4miles today by the time I've done the PM school run, but I just hurt all over!

I've put the batteries in and I don't think the scales will be kind, so have strayed back into overweight now. Will check in tomorrow.
x

Candacewasalwaysright · 29/09/2020 15:05

Hello, can I join in please?

I'm pretty much the heaviest I've ever been and really fed up with it. I had a foot issue a few years ago which left me really immobile and I piled on the weight. It's pretty much gone now but I have an extra 3 stone and some hip flexor issues.

I'd like to get back down to a normal BMI and then work on the body fat percentage. I have some really old weight watchers stuff that I used to get rid of the baby weight many years ago and I liked it because most veg and salad was unlimited in quantities you could eat, so will use that. I try to do intermittent fasting but have slipped from that a bit with lockdown and having family at home much more than before.

I struggle motivating myself to exercise but I do suffer from SAD in the winter, so am going to force myself out for a walk every day which helps with that. Also planning to weight train and do some cardio and yoga.

Starting weight is 12 stone 9.5 lbs

SunshineCake · 29/09/2020 15:24

It does take me an hour *@MrsJonesAndMe. I'm wondering whether to run shorter distances and try and get faster.

Welcome *@Candacewasalwaysright. We are a good bunch.

MrsJonesAndMe · 29/09/2020 16:21

I probably spend about an hour on walking 3.2m exactly for the school runs which is 5K.

Welcome @Candacewasalwaysright I just got a Lumie light - just switched it on yesterday morning for the first time. I do think getting out helps though!

DSsnmum · 29/09/2020 18:28

Hi, I’m looking to join for the first time! I’m mid 30s, 5ft 7in, got married at 30 and weighed around 10st which is the thinnest I’ve ever been! Since then I’ve had 3 kids including twins. Only put on half a stone during my first pregnancy but got pregnant again with the twins when he was only 10 months old and then put on another stone. Realised my twins are nearly 3 now and I’m the heaviest I’ve ever been at 11st 10lbs. Looking to get down to 11st as my first target! Really need some motivation, forever promising I’ll stop eating rubbish and do more exercise and never stick to it!

random9876 · 29/09/2020 18:35

Can I join? I am 5ft 4in, and weight 10 stone 4 (after three weeks of MFP). BMI 24.5. I want to get to 9 stone 10 and then basically focus on weight training (I used to be 9 stone 7 in my 20s and early 30s but I didn't do weights at that stage). I just need to chug away at MFP and cut out the wine I think! I am quite fit but I carry weight round my middle and it isn't healthy

SunshineCake · 29/09/2020 20:23

Welcome @DSsnmum and @random9876.

I'm doing IF, running 10km three times a week, walking my dog for at least an hour every morning and not eating supper. I've lost 15lbs since May. Very slow but it is staying off.

Would like to lose another stone and then I'll be the weight I was when I met my dh nearly 25 years ago. I'm currently my lowest weight since 2011. The weight went in because I was poorly but it is great to be having some control over other food issues and the running has given me more confidence than anything.

blimey, that sounded ridiculous

rivierliedje · 30/09/2020 06:59

My plan for October is to continue the couch to 5k. Am currently partway through week 8, so almost finished. For stregth training I will restart XBX and do that one level a week 3x/week.
Foodwise, I need to figure out a way to track what I eat that I can actually stick to. The plan is to have three meals a day, no snacks, no seconds and no sweets/treats on weekdays.

BobbinThreadbare123 · 30/09/2020 07:18

I'll join! I'm late 30s, 5'7" and about 72 kg. Puts me right at the top of OK BMI. Until I was 33/34 I was a size 8/10 or sometimes even less. Then I injured myself, so I've been in a cycle of being very unfit and hurt or a full on chunky weightlifter. Size 12 now and I do not want to get any bigger. I did really well last year and got back down to 67 kg but whacked it all back on. Also got to get rid of some of my bust as my cup size is now so big I am struggling to get any bras.
I've tried C25K and did really well but trashed my ankle in Week 7, in May. Got to have another go.
I have Crohn's disease so I'm a bit constrained by that. I do need to get my muscle back on (honestly I did have a 6 pack 18 mo/2 yr ago!).

Hanbu · 30/09/2020 07:30

Hi everyone, joining group today, I am 228. My first goal is to become overweight rather than obese.
I have been overweight for 40 years and I am now paying for it health wise, so happy to join this group who seem so supportive.

moonbells · 30/09/2020 09:56

Hello newbie people from another relative newbie. I joined last month - was so good to find a weight loss thread with people who are combining it with exercise (can't believe I hadn't noticed it before!).

10st 4 this morning and (just) back in my size 12 clothes so hurrah, less than a stone to go. Last night was a recovery 5k, found it easyish so I'm getting there.

It amazes me how people can be the same height and the same dress size as me but a stone heavier... at 11st I'm definitely a 14. But then I'm mid-50s, I probably have lost muscle over the years and my waist has never been less than 28" as an adult so I will take getting back to 30" as a win.

People at work are already starting on the 'Don't get too thin, you looked gaunt last time, you'll look like a skeleton' guff.
Last time I stopped at a slightly higher weight and waist size than I wanted because of it, but with a mum who had type 2 diabetes, breast cancer and heart disease, I need my waist size down as low as possible. This time I'm not listening to them - I'm doing this so I feel right, not them... and I'd rather be alive and fit.

TheRealHousewife · 30/09/2020 11:21

Good Morning

These are my September figures.

1/9 = 9st 2.
2/9 = 8st 13 (Posted to show how weight can fluctuate overnight)
9/9 = 9st 2
16/9 = 9st 2
23/9 = 9st
30/9 = 8st 13.

It’s isn’t sticking though. I’ve bounced the same 3lbs all month. I did take my eye of the ball due to a stressful time. I need to be consistent and do what I know works.

@FatGirlShrinking awesome progress! 🏅⭐️👏

Don’t forget ladies plan your meals/shopping list, drink your water, get your protein, fibre & good fats in. Get some exercise in if you can as every bit helps. The NHS has Free Strength & Flex plans. It’s a great resource!

Starting October at 207lb

I am determined to get under 200lb this month,it would be wonderful to hit my first big goal of 197lb which will move me from obese to overweight on the BMI charts.

MrsJonesAndMe · 30/09/2020 12:50

Hi all, WOW wasn't too disastrous. I'm still 9kg down from start weight, so first goal will be to get back into a routine with IF and drop that 1kg.

Wednesday and so far the mileage for the week is 10.5 miles on foot with double buggy. Will try and do a yoga stretch tonight too.

Take care all!

SunshineCake · 30/09/2020 12:56

I've posted on the September thread to finish it off and will come on this one properly later.

TheRealHousewife · 30/09/2020 18:24

Hi @MrsJonesAndMe that’s some achievement... over 10 miles with a double buggy 😮👏⭐️ . How old are the little ones?

OP posts:
MrsJonesAndMe · 30/09/2020 21:03

Depends on the day of the week @TheRealHousewife. Today was a 1 and a 2 1/2 year old. Tomorrow it's a 2 1/2 and a 3 year old Shock but planning to do less walking tomorrow specifically because I'm struggling with it all. The poor weather doesn't make walking to and from school very appealing either.

FatGirlShrinking · 30/09/2020 23:19

Feeling a bit disappointed, just decided to treat myself to a chocolate hobnob biscuit and took one bite and realised they've been in the cupboard so long they've gone stale 😂

That was 92 calories wasted on a stale biscuit!

For the first time ever I weigh less than my DH, been with him since I was 16 and he's always been lighter than me. Can't tell him though because he doesn't know my numbers and never has, there's got to be some mystery after 20 years right!

salad49 · 01/10/2020 07:57

Hi everyone, can I join in too?

Really struggling with how I look and feel at the moment. I'm 30, 5ft3 and just weighed in this morning at 12st8. I'm breastfeeding my 9 month old and definitely not seeing the benefits of weight dropping off like people said it would, though admittedly I do eat too much chocolate!

I've lost quite a bit of weight twice already in the last 10 years, most recently I went from 12st2 last Jan to 10st3 at the beginning of last April, I worked hard, exercising almost everyday either running or exercise bike (sometimes both) and doing some more strength based videos on youtube. But the only way I see results is by really restricting my calorie intake to an absolute max of 1200 per day, sometimes (dare I say it?) I would even do less than 1000, and then exercise on top of that. I was probably still overweight for my height at 10st3 but I felt really good, and liked how I looked, I will always be curvy no matter what I do.

Then I found out I was pregnant, and got horrific morning sickness that could only be curbed by eating pretty much every hour, and by the end of my pregnancy I'd put on 4st. I'd lost 2st of that after about 10 weeks, but have since managed to put half a stone back on. I'm struggling with how to lose weight now as I had read that to maintain milk supply I needed to be consuming 1800 calories a day, but I just don't lose any weight doing that no matter how much exercise I do. Does anyone have any advice? I'm desperate to shift some of this extra weight before I go back to work.

Sorry for the long post, just wanted to get everything down.

TheRealHousewife · 01/10/2020 08:07

Good Morning All

1st October = Official Start Day. October last year I was a good stone and half heavier. No matter how slow you lose, over time it makes a significant difference.

As well as aiming to lose a few lbs this month I am also trying to up my activity. Not always easy due to my spinal cord injury but I do try my best every single day.

@MrsJonesAndMe are they your children or are you a child minder. Sorry if you’ve mentioned it before, I must have missed it. Either way sounds like you’re a very busy lady!

@FatGirlShrinking how disappointing for you re: the biscuit. Congrats on your NSV (none scale victory) in being lighter than your husband. When I met my other half I was 1/2 his weight. In recent years my weight was about 3/4 his weight. He is 6ft and I’m under 5ft😮. I’d say I’m about 2/3rds his weight now. My boobies are in the way of becoming 1/2 again; they are huge and robust 😬.

Come on ladies, let’s do this. This time next month you’ll be glad you did!

Hello & welcome @salad49. Congratulations on your baby! As you know you a need a nutritious diet to feed your baby. Is this something you can talk to the health visitor about?

Generally I know you need protein, fibre, healthy fats, none processed carbs (from vegetables and beans).

Pre pregnancy your stats are similar to mine. I had to go low to lose. Not just low, I had to totally overhaul what I ate. Out went white bread, cakes, sweets, sugary foods, alcohol. Anything processed really. I switched to a Mediterranean type diet, excluded sugar and alcohol and that worked for me, albeit slowly.

As you’re a breastfeeding mum I’d concentrate on the content of your diet rather than focusing on going low cal. If I was you I’d discuss with the health visitor or GP for advice. I found this on line, it might be off interest.
