Hello

Just where has August gone? People who joined the thread last month are reporting significant losses 👏👍🥇. In 4 short weeks I myself lost 9lbs.

Do you too want to lose weight? Feel fitter? Get healthier? Feel happier?

Me personally? In the main it’s been a way of life for nearly 3 years and I’ve lost over 40lbs. I had a bit of blip at the start of C19. After all my hard work I just started eating with impunity. Before I knew it I was10lbs up in a few short weeks! I needed to get back on it and COVID proof myself 😬 I calorie count, log via MFP app, Intermittent fast, eat-low carb Mediterranean style aka Fast800 Plan and try to stay well hydrated.

There are so many enjoyable lifestyle options out there without the need to resort to extreme measures. Whatever way you choose, it needs to be enjoyable & sustainable for the long term. This is a long term commitment rather than a quick fix. I also rarely drink alcohol and keep sugar to a minimum. I exercise by doing walking vids & strength sessions with lite weighs.

As no one size fits all members need to follow their own way of eating. Nonetheless this thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

There is no shaming, competition or harsh words to be found on this thread. We are in this together.

How do you plan to do it? What do you want to achieve? What excites you about your future self? Together, we can create a whole new you!

Jump in 😊. You’ll be glad you did this time next month 😀.

@FancyARoot eat the crumble but log it. I let myself have a treat if I want, I just log it so I have that record. So far, it's actually not taken me over my weekly calories, you may end up with one high day but if you then look over the week you'll have had some days below so it all works out.

I watched a bit of that Michael Mosley 21lbs in 21 days thing on ch4 and while that diet is way too much for me there was a bit about mindful eating that I've found really helpful.

The idea that instead of just shovelling food in while you read, chat, watch telly, you should instead pay real attention to your food.

I don't do it all the time, but if I fancy a bit of chocolate, I've waited a bit, done something else and I still want the chocolate, then I make a big deal of it. I sit quietly, smell it, focus on the texture, the flavour, take my time. It makes it so much more satisfying.

So yes, in my opinion, have your crumble, but take the time to enjoy it and account for it.

TheRealHousewife · 06/09/2020 09:38

@FancyARoot yes of course have a day off. Family rituals and coming together over food is good for the soul. You need to do what works for you and remains sustainable. My Sunday’s are always OMAD with a roast dinner and dessert.

Enjoy your roast and crumble!

I love cauliflower @TheRealHousewife so that would be great thank you.

Gordonsgrin · 06/09/2020 10:04

Morning all, thanks @TheRealHousewife for the welcome. I have been really good over the last few days, currently trying to cut back on the coffee slightly in order to drink more water. Am doing week 3 run 2 today.
Currently looking through this marvellous thread for food inspiration thanks ladies.
My tip, two slices of Parma ham quick fried (no oil required) crumbled onto hard boiled egg salad. A steal at under 200 cal, nutritious , filling and comfort all on one plate.

TaraW20 · 06/09/2020 11:41

@FancyARoot I'm having one meal a day Monday to friday and have eaten what I want on weekends for the last 3 weeks (totally eaten loads of crap like cakes and ice cream even a Gregg's and Burger King, I know this was terrible and will be cautious from now) but have lost half a stone.

TheRealHousewife · 06/09/2020 13:02

Here you go @HereIgoagainagain 👍. Spicy cauliflower soup.

PS I don’t add tofu as I don’t like it. I add a bit of cream cheese 👍

Thanks for the tips everyone.

But I’m doing it again!! I’ve said to myself I’ll have a day off today. Relax things a bit. And now I’m just picking nonstop! I’ve been so hungry all week.

I MUST NOT undo all my hard work! Why do I do this? 😭

I’m good at dieting. But then I have no moderation. It’s all or nothing.
Is anyone else like this?

fallfallfall · 06/09/2020 16:57

@FancyARoot i suspect different people produce different amounts of the hunger hormone ghrelin than others. if i eat three "meals" a day i'm less prone to snacking than if i try and skip any of my meals. and yes if something i love is under my nose, i show no restraint what so ever. subsequently should guest arrive unexpectedly for coffee/tea etc i have NOTHING of interest to offer except for cherry tomatoes :).
weight loss has been excessive 4 lbs in 7 days with no change in any exercise for food pattern (left overs since wednesday). less exercise than august. although my apple watch monthly challenge is high. the challenge is to complete 3,480 minutes of exercise this month.

tonights supper with greek salad. i'll be making the dressing.
i'll use swiss chard from the garden vs spinach as well as mint and parsley.

Trisolaris · 06/09/2020 16:58

Hi all!

So I managed to achieve my post-holiday goal and get back under 60kg again to finish the week on 59.8kg, although is it cheating if you weigh yourself post-run to get the lowest number of the day? Blush

Well done on those doing some amazing exercise! I’m on week 2 of C25k - more to force myself to build stamina as I have a tendency to run flat out and knacker myself out rather than at a sensible pace and actually achieve something! Trying to do it faster than the 9 weeks though.

SunshineCake · 06/09/2020 17:20

I find if my head isn't in the right place then there's no point. I have to undo damage done from childhood food issues but have got through that. I ran 8.16km this morning and ran for 1 hour 25 seconds. That buys me a few chewing nuts after I had ironed. Dh and I have had an early tea as we were hungry and mine was left over vegetable and tiny pasta soup. He has made some GF seeded bread and we may have a slice later. I am IF but I'm doing more than 8.30pm - 12.30pm now.

Lunch was cod, new potatoes, carrots, peas, sweet one, kale, broccoli and home grown spinach.

I like st 2lb from Saturday 29th to Wednesday 2nd and have lost nothing since, but then I've not put on either.

Welcome *@monkeytennis97 and I agree about summer and salads is easy but trickier in winter. I'll get around it by plenty of veg.

*@TorysSuckRevokeArticle50 I can't remember if I am in the overweight category or not but I have 1 stone 2.8 to lose to get into normal iirc.

Don't be disheartened *@rivierliedje. Months ago I felt like I was the only one putting on 1-2 lbs more than I lost anything and now I'm only 3.6 lbs lighter than I was August 1st I am the lightest I have been in six years so I am taking it as a win.

*@FancyARoot I don't have a day off as such but I went through a stage of trying to just eat crisps or chocolate at the weekend. I don't do it know as I decided a lot less chocolate most days worked better for me.

*@Gordonsgrin your Parma ham meal sounds lovely.

SunshineCake · 06/09/2020 17:23

Goodness the wrong auto corrects!

Sweetcorn

I lost 2lbs from..

Also, I don't know if I'm in obese or overweight otherwise the rest makes no sense.

Trisolaris · 06/09/2020 17:30

Does anyone have some quick and easy low cal veggie recipes? I feel like I’m getting stuck in a bit of a rut and making the same things over and over a lot atm.

TorysSuckRevokeArticle50 · 06/09/2020 17:45

Not a lot of help @Trisolaris as I am not a natural cook or a vegetarian so tend to just microwave a load of greenbeans, mushrooms, baby corn and/or sugar snap peas and either chuck it on the plate or into whatever I've cooked on the stove Grin

Feeling uncomfortably full right now, really hadn't eaten much all day so decided to do a big dinner to get to about 1100 calories for the day.

Fresh egg tagliatelli
Greenbeans
Baby corn
All cooked together in the boiling water, then I dry fried

Mushrooms
Spring onion
Cherry tomatoes
Pepperoni (this oiled the pan so didn't need to add more)

Combined the lot for a quick mix together in the frying pan and seasoned.

Then sprinkled with a bit of mature cheddar.

Took 6 mins to cook and about 5 to prep. It tasted great and looked nice but it was a lot of food.

HereIgoagainagain · 06/09/2020 17:56

Thank you for the recipe @TheRealHousewife

I too am not a fan of tofu so I will do cream cheese as well. I have never heard of tamari sauce , is soy sauce acceptable do you think ?

Not a bad day today , have been cooking up a storm which always makes me eat less, weirdly.

MislaidMyBrain · 06/09/2020 18:00

@Trisolaris some of my recipes are
chick pea masala
Any veg curry with a chappatti
I make these quite quickly so they’re almost like a warm salad. Fry onions, add spices and chopped tomato, add chick peas or any quick cook veg like courgette and peas, spinach and new potato (if there’s time to boil them)
Stir fry veg - today I made a quick stir fry for lunch of a yellow pepper, mushrooms, tofu, with some chilli flakes, cherry tomatoes and fresh coriander stirred through at the end.

Chick pea and cous cous salad - pour cous cous, seasoning, lemon rind into a bowl, pour on boiling water, cover and let it stand. Chop up salad, open a can of chick peas and stir through with some lemon juice and fresh coriander or parsley.

MislaidMyBrain · 06/09/2020 18:01

I love tofu and cauliflower too except cauliflower gives me terrible indigestion now so I need to avoid it. Sad

Trisolaris · 06/09/2020 18:09

Ooh, that salads sounds interesting @MislaidMyBrain! I’m not really a curry fan but I eat a loooot of hummus and could do with mixing up what I do with my chickpeas!

TheRealHousewife · 06/09/2020 18:13

Hi @HereIgoagainagain yes soy is fine as is liquid aminos. Tamari sauce is to soy sauce what balsamic is to vinegar. A richer version.

@MislaidMyBrain your chickpea dish sounds appetising. Thank you for sharing.

Morning All
Just need a break,I'm away at moment staying at the Tower Hotel and Spa,it's amazing place,it's like the first time since March I've swam, used the gym equipment and seen the sea by going to the Gower(Amazing) would recommend to boost your moral and weight goals. It's a treat because I've lost.two dress sizes and couldn't go aboard to show off my new figure

Foreverlexicon · 07/09/2020 05:42

Oops, I am still here!

I’ve been babysitting a friend who hurt her knee and is a bit high on painkillers. I haven’t had the healthiest weekend eating wise but gyming a lot and feeling good.

Working the next 5 days then a few days off before I go to Greece for a friends wedding - haven't been abroad for a few years so can’t wait! But hoping for a good week of healthy eating and exercise before I go.

I twanged something in my knee at the gym yesterday and it’s pretty sore so may need to take it easy for a few days which is annoying but that’s how it goes.

No time to catch up on the thread now but hope things are going well for everyone

TorysSuckRevokeArticle50 · 07/09/2020 08:20

Well DD has woken up this morning with a mild temperature and a bellyache. We managed 7 whole days of school before her first sick day, whoop whoop!

Now to figure out how to a) get hold of a Covid test (b) get her to stay still while I stick a swab down her throat and up her nose.

Yay for Mondays!

Hullaballoonexperience · 07/09/2020 08:29

Would love to join! All my clothes are tight and feel sluggish and unhealthy!

TheRealHousewife · 07/09/2020 08:49

Good Morning Peeps

How were your weekends? Successes? Dips?

I ate to plan apart from a couple of things that included some mashed potato with my roast. Didn’t eat it all as my tastes have changed. Nonetheless it caused a mini avalanche. Subsequently had a cherry yoghurt that on looking looking at label was quite high carb/sugar. I usually have Greek style yoghurt. I know if chocolate had been in the house I’d have ate that too! The scales showed their disdain by weighing up this morning! Little feckers 😈. Im on it good style now to try to get a good WOW result although won’t know until Friday as won’t have access to scales.

I’m swapping my menu about as going away for a few days from tomorrow morning (business related). Will be able to take some prepped meals to warm in a microwave (oh great joy).

I’m on the wrong page to read the thread so Warm Welcomes to any new comers. Will respond later.

Have a great day!
