Hello

Just where has August gone? People who joined the thread last month are reporting significant losses 👏👍🥇. In 4 short weeks I myself lost 9lbs.

Do you too want to lose weight? Feel fitter? Get healthier? Feel happier?

You’ve come to the right place!

Me personally? In the main it’s been a way of life for nearly 3 years and I’ve lost over 40lbs. I had a bit of blip at the start of C19. After all my hard work I just started eating with impunity. Before I knew it I was10lbs up in a few short weeks! I needed to get back on it and COVID proof myself 😬 I calorie count, log via MFP app, Intermittent fast, eat-low carb Mediterranean style aka Fast800 Plan and try to stay well hydrated.

There are so many enjoyable lifestyle options out there without the need to resort to extreme measures. Whatever way you choose, it needs to be enjoyable & sustainable for the long term. This is a long term commitment rather than a quick fix. I also rarely drink alcohol and keep sugar to a minimum. I exercise by doing walking vids & strength sessions with lite weighs.

As no one size fits all members need to follow their own way of eating. Nonetheless this thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

There is no shaming, competition or harsh words to be found on this thread. We are in this together.

How do you plan to do it? What do you want to achieve? What excites you about your future self? Together, we can create a whole new you!

Jump in 😊. You’ll be glad you did this time next month 😀.

@LyndaR49
That sounds amazing! I went to a harbour hotel a few weeks ago but sadly it was just before the pools and gyms opened up.

Sazlock · 07/09/2020 09:26

Morning - feeling a bit Mondayish today !
Scales ok this morning - no loss but no huge gain which is good as Saturday not quite on plan as had a night away with a tasting menu. Lush but no way of counting it !!
Yesterday ok and back to it today 🙂

FancyARoot · 07/09/2020 10:07

Happy Monday everyone!

TorysSuckRevokeArticle50 · 07/09/2020 10:22

Scales this morning we're showing a 4lb loss, 2 of that is the new scales though, but still happy with 2lb down so far this week.

Just done my 30 minutes exercise video and planned food to stay within count, hoping if I stay good today and tomorrow I will see another pound off.

SunshineCake · 07/09/2020 13:08

Hope LittleTory feels better soon *@TorysSuckRevokeArticle50 and good luck doing the test. I've had one and no way could I have done it myself but hopefully easier on someone else.

I walked over 4km with my dog and have been on my feet and moving all morning. I'm really tired now so carrying on with planning but sitting now.

DD back to school today and DS2 went on Thursday so the school runs begin again. DH and I are dropping a child each but I have to pick up both.

Haven't weighed since Saturday which is progress for me as I used to an obsessive daily weigher. Still haven't worked out how I'll run on school days but it might have to be at a different time or just at the weekend and I do 25km on the exercise bike instead.

Someone noticed I'd lost weight today and last week someone said look at your little legs Shock.

fallfallfall · 07/09/2020 14:59

@SunshineCake “Someone noticed I'd lost weight today and last week someone said look at your little legs shock.“ That made me smile, I’m happy for you. You’ve put in a lot of hard work.

dexterslockedintheshedagain · 07/09/2020 17:06

I managed not to snack on the two night shifts! It's so hard, when you're tired, to resist the temptation of the biscuits and cakes that always seem to be about, but I did it!

FancyARoot · 07/09/2020 17:48

Well done @dexterslockedintheshedagain - I’m dreading going back to nights for the inevitable loads of food available!

I’m having a much more positive day today. Determined to record a loss on Wednesday!

Well done to all the losers and walkers!

fallfallfall · 07/09/2020 18:17

I’m certain shift work and a stressful nursing environment is/was the root cause of my weight gain.

SunshineCake · 07/09/2020 19:14

Thanks *@fallfallfall. I still can't believe it. All my life I've covered up as was told I had legs like tree trunks as a teenager. Now I go running in shorts so 😛to them.

Well done *@dexterslockedintheshedagain. I just defrosted gluten free doughnuts and gave them to the kids as I don't like them. I had half earlier in and remembered they are not nice. I have done 25km on the bike so worked it off.

Still haven't worked out how to put in my run tomorrow .

MislaidMyBrain · 07/09/2020 21:05

Lots of good Monday news! Well done everyone.
@fallfallfall I think shift work does mess up cortisol or something which can cause issues with weight. you’re doing really well!
I’m a bit fed up today. It’s coming up to two weeks now and I feel bloated and I’m still fat Sad
There seems to be no change since the first week. It’s really demotivating but I’m carrying on.

fallfallfall · 07/09/2020 21:15

@MislaidMyBrain, it's a really slow process please don't give up.
this is where taking a measurement or two can be helpful. not all changes are picked up on the scale.
not only cortisol levels but the nibbling to stay alert.
i'm having a good stretch of perceived weight loss on the scale, i'm a bit skeptical, so i'm increasing my fluids.

TorysSuckRevokeArticle50 · 07/09/2020 21:24

@MislaidMyBrain Women's Health magazine has a piece this month on hormones and how they affect eating and weight loss here's the bit about cortisol attached.

DD is fine thank you @SunshineCake bellyache and a really borderline not quite temperature (37.4) this morning plus she woke up really early. By this afternoon she was chowing down on a big plate of sausages and wanting to play.

@TorysSuckRevokeArticle50, thanks for that. very concise :).

Foreverlexicon · 08/09/2020 05:05

@SunshineCake what a win! Well done!

@dexterslockedintheshedagain I work shifts too and do find nights hard as well. So well done!

Good day for me yesterday. I was out the house 6am to 7.30pm between work and horse so I didn’t exercise apart from riding but hoping to get to the gym today.

Food yest
B - rice cakes with peanut butter and banana
S - apple and naked bar
L - wrap with ham cheese and salad, crisps
D - chicken satay with green beans and rice
S - maltesers
E - rode horse

Am gutted; I’ve had to cancel my holiday next week due to quarantine restrictions on Greek islands coming in. I know many people have been in the same boat but it’s for my best friends wedding and I haven’t been abroad for almost 4 years. Sigh. Girlfriend and I are planning a trip to the Lake District instead though.

FancyARoot · 08/09/2020 06:56

I’ve been feeling like this. I checked my app last night for the last time I lost weight....I stuck religiously to under 1400 calories, and hardly any change on the scales for nearly ten days. Then it just started to fall off. I’d forgotten how long it can take to start losing!
TorysSuckRevokeArticle50 · 08/09/2020 07:12

@FancyARoot happens like that for me too. I will eat under 1200 for a week and just go up and down and end up at the same weight or higher, then the next day I weight and 3lb has dropped off overnight for apparently no reason.

On a different topic I was looking up where fat goes when we lose weight, I wondered how it actually left our bodies and turns out we breathe it out.

When our bodies break it down it turns into Carbon Dioxide and is just breathed away.

I don't know why, but I really like that image of just breathing away all the fat.

SunshineCake · 08/09/2020 07:19

Morning all. I'm sat here in my running gear willing DS2 to want to go earlier to school so I can run.

Thank you *@Foreverlexicon. That same person saw me a few years ago and wanted to do things you should only do with your partner. Shock. Felt really good to say no.

I have often thought I wasn't eating enough to lose weight but maybe I was just being impatient months I don't understand much of the science but hang in there everyone. It will come off.

I don't think I was losing much or consistently before I started running and properly doing IF but I don't know which is making it happen. Daren't give up either either but DH is saying I should eat breakfast or at least eat after a run but I'll carry on and have compromised that I will eat if I feel unwell. When I first ran 8.1 km I felt I'd done too much as felt awful (dizzy, nauseous) but last time I was okay.

Come onnnnnnnnn DS. I need to run!

Myfuckingfreezer · 08/09/2020 07:20

Morning all,

Have been a regular on some of the other weight loss threads but new to this one - need to get back on it!

Starting weight was 225 on 1 January and was down to 170 by 1 July. Still had approximately 20 pounds to loose but 1 September sees me up on 174!

Hardly a big gain I know but I've definitely let some good eating and exercising habits go, so resetting to what I know works best:

  • 10,000 steps by walking for an hour or running for 30mins every morning
  • 1300 calories
  • 16:8 intermittent fasting
  • low carb but nothing completely off limits.
rivierliedje · 08/09/2020 07:34

@TorysSuckRevokeArticle50 Thanks for that little article. I don't drink coffee, very very rarely have coke and only sometimes have chocolate (but when I do it is usually dark). So those three caffeine sources are fine. Tea however! I used to drink it on the odd occasion, but my partner is an avid drinker and now I drink the strong stuff many times a day. I should consider decreasing that a bit!
Occasionally I forget that in the week leading up to my period there is nothing that will make me lose weight. Which was probably why I put on a pound last week. I shouldn't give up tracking my intake and I shouldn't put off going for a run as I know I'll feel better for it. I'm putting it off at the moment, first because it was still dark, then becuase I was waiting for ibuprofen to kick in, now because I'm finishing my tea. But I really should go! I got my partner out with me for strength and flex yesterday evening and that was great.

@SunshineCake You are doing amazingly! Remembering you don't really like a 'treat food' while you are eating it and then stopping eating it is something I find very difficult. So that sounds amazing to me!

SunshineCake · 08/09/2020 07:35

Sorry, *@Foreverlexicon got distracted. I'm sad for you you will miss the wedding. Lovely to plan something else instead and hopefully there will be a way to life stream the wedding or see a video somehow.

rivierliedje · 08/09/2020 08:47

Those of you who do intemittent fasting, how do you do it? Just skip breakfast? Or a more detailed plan?

dexterslockedintheshedagain · 08/09/2020 09:12

@TorysSuckRevokeArticle50 thanks for the article, really struck a chord re stress and caffeine.
I'm a stresshead (bloody job) and drink gallons of coffee!
Yup, night shifts suck alright. Any type of shift work does. I'm trying to get a role where I can just work days at the moment, as the shifts plus menopause are killing me
@rivierliedje I tend to skip breakfast, but more because I'm not hungry than any other reason. So I last eat around 8pm, and eat again around midday - 1pm.

TorysSuckRevokeArticle50 · 08/09/2020 09:46

@dexterslockedintheshedagain and @fallfallfall here's the rest of that article for the various hormones and their impacts
