Hello

Just where has August gone? People who joined the thread last month are reporting significant losses 👏👍🥇. In 4 short weeks I myself lost 9lbs.

Do you too want to lose weight? Feel fitter? Get healthier? Feel happier?

You’ve come to the right place!

Me personally? In the main it’s been a way of life for nearly 3 years and I’ve lost over 40lbs. I had a bit of blip at the start of C19. After all my hard work I just started eating with impunity. Before I knew it I was10lbs up in a few short weeks! I needed to get back on it and COVID proof myself 😬 I calorie count, log via MFP app, Intermittent fast, eat-low carb Mediterranean style aka Fast800 Plan and try to stay well hydrated.

There are so many enjoyable lifestyle options out there without the need to resort to extreme measures. Whatever way you choose, it needs to be enjoyable & sustainable for the long term. This is a long term commitment rather than a quick fix. I also rarely drink alcohol and keep sugar to a minimum. I exercise by doing walking vids & strength sessions with lite weighs.

As no one size fits all members need to follow their own way of eating. Nonetheless this thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

There is no shaming, competition or harsh words to be found on this thread. We are in this together.

How do you plan to do it? What do you want to achieve? What excites you about your future self? Together, we can create a whole new you!

Jump in 😊. You’ll be glad you did this time next month 😀.

Great news @FatGirlShrinking

FancyARoot · 11/09/2020 07:26

@RubySlippers77 you sound like you’re doing amazing. I had 3 under 4 with a partner who worked away and it is bloody exhausting doing it alone. Please don’t feel guilty at wishing them back to school. You NEED rest and you NEED to recover, and you will enjoy them more once you’ve had more time to yourself. There’s nothing wrong with how you feel.
I will bite my tongue about your partner though. Nothing gives me the rage more than lazy fathers....but 💐 for you :)

I’m feeling dreadful today. Felt a cold starting yesterday, got much worse in the night, and I couldn’t sleep all night and just awful. Think it’s knocked me for 6 because none of us have been ill all lockdown due to being so isolated.
Think it will put paid to my epic planned walk to the village and back today 😭

FatGirlShrinking · 11/09/2020 07:31

@FancyARoot sounds like you and me have the same thing, my sinuses are so congested I can't breathe through my nose, throat feels red raw and I'm just so bloody tired.

Did a test and just waiting on the results but I don't think it's CV just every cold I've missed in the last 6 months all combined.

MislaidMyBrain · 11/09/2020 10:05

I’m so hungry at the moment. It’s so weird because I always get this kind of ‘fake’ hunger if I eat too much carb or sugar the day before.
I’m really trying to hold out til midday. If I give in now, I know I’ll start going back to my old ways and putting all that weight back on.
I’m going to have a coffee and make myself busy.

SunshineCake · 11/09/2020 11:10

Half way there *@MislaidMyBrain.

I have a bit of a cough and runny nose but I'm ok. So tired last night though I didn't hear the dog barking at 11pm so DS2 had to get up with her.

I'm making Mary Berry's tomato and olive tart for tea and as I had pastry spare I'm also making a pie with sweetcorn, leeks and mushrooms. I expect no one will want or like either so that will be three out of the last three nights where dinner wasn't a hit with everyone but tbh I am past caring.

That last paragraph is a really good way of putting it!
I can’t diet today. I need toast and hot chocolate and carbs. I’m not going to beat myself up either.

Hope you’re feeling better soon @FatGirlShrinking

FancyARoot · 11/09/2020 11:20

I did do my walk though! Shortened version...!

dexterslockedintheshedagain · 11/09/2020 12:49

@FatGirlShrinking love it!!

WOF for me instead of WOW.

Neither lost nor gained this week. Was a bit disappointed as I've been trying so hard, but when I was at SW I found that if I had a bad week, it didn't show on the scales until the week after, iyswim. And I did go over my cals a couple of days last week. AND I have been back at work, which is stressful and isn't going to help.
So, onwards and upwards -here's to next week!

SunshineCake · 11/09/2020 16:00

Just putting it out there that I will be having a few crisps tonight. Can't remember when I last had some and they will be a nice treat. Just done 26km on the bike. Annoyingly I have chest pain but I am about to pick up the kids so hopefully it isn't anything. No loss this morning but I will complete the week of bike every day but no running and then will reassess.

MrsJonesAndMe · 11/09/2020 16:11

Hi all, just a quick wave. Great name change @FatGirlShrinking

When will you have a break @RubySlippers77? I had to leave my ex and he just replaced me with a new wife

Trisolaris · 11/09/2020 18:40

Hope you feel better soon @FatGirlShrinking and @SunshineCake

I just did W3 R1 of C25k am hoping to see a proper loss next week when I start weighing again once bloat is gone. Hopefully all the running will have paid off!

FatGirlShrinking · 11/09/2020 18:51

Food today has been shit, really struggling to want to eat.

B - nothing
L - 2 pepperamis
D - wholewheat pasta with butter and cheese on.

Lots and lots of hot sugar free squash

Galvantula · 11/09/2020 18:59

Hello,

I'm totally struggling to keep up with the chat, but trying to check in on you all!

I'm still gradually losing this month, now sitting at 58.5kg, my lowest since I started putting weight back on again 6 months ago.

I don't think the adh d medication is really affecting my appetite - I'm still eating all my regular meals no problem. But I'm so much less anxious and getting fewer evenings of ending up so down at how badly the day has gone. So my comfort eating habit has almost gone. 😯

It's very strange to spend the day a lot calmer than I'm used to.

SunshineCake · 11/09/2020 19:52

All sounds positive *@Galvantula and nice to see you.

My pies were very nice but sadly I have reacted to the pastry or milk or cheese Sad and now have stomach pain and bloat.

SunshineCake · 11/09/2020 19:54

*@Trisolaris I have lost nearly a stone since I started running. I started in May doing C25k and now run 8 to 8.5 km every other day.

Galvantula · 11/09/2020 23:25

Strangely @SunshineCake I feel I could manage a wee run, but due to osteoarthritis I believe high impact exercise is not advised. I always hated running my whole life, typical I feel like it now when my joints aren't keen 😂

I'm trying to incorporate more fast walking instead, which should be easier.

FatGirlShrinking · 12/09/2020 06:50

Got my result overnight and it's not Covid so that's good, at least we all don't have to stay in the house for 2 weeks.

Still feel like poop though

@Galvantula so glad the meds are making you feel better!

Exercise has gone out the window the last few days because just not feeling up to it, but I've stayed well below calorie count due to not wanting to eat so it balances out.

rivierliedje · 12/09/2020 06:50

This thread is moving really fast and it is quite hard to keep up with the conversation!
I'm not making any progress at all and I'm not sure how to shift myself. I have been keeping up with the NHS 12 week fitness plan, but otherwise seem to be in a complete rut.

FatGirlShrinking · 12/09/2020 07:14

@rivierliedje

Food: what path are you following, IF, calorie counting......

Exercise is great for upping your metabolism, building strength and building fitness but weight loss is mainly about food.

For me, I can stay below 1500 calories and not lose any weight at all if that 1500 is made up of lots of carbs. My body just can't cope with them. So I have to go low carb and reduced calories.

Do you keep track of your food intake and count drinks?

SunshineCake · 12/09/2020 08:01

*@Galvantula I have had a couple of people tell me I need to be careful running on hard surfaces, and my knees are sore after, but it is hard when the only field to run in has lots of ankle turning dips and dog walkers go there. Also, my run is a nice one and just running round the field eight times wouldn't be very interesting. DH keeps musing about getting a treadmill but I don't know if that would be better and running outside is free!

That is great you have a negative test *@FatGirlShrinking. I hope you feel better soon Flowers.

*@rivierliedje Hang in there. It will come. DH told me I wouldn't lose any weight from running but coupled with intermittent fasting, lots of salad and fruit and veg and increasing my water I have lost about 12 lbs. I was only 0.8 lb off a stone but it is coming off and mostly staying off.

I had horrible stomach pains last night after dinner and then upset tummy this morning but the worst thing is I have gone up another pound. I really hate food waste but I have to stop feeling like I'm only worthy of what others don't want to eat and that actually eating food I am intolerant too is worse than throwing food away. But I don't really believe it. Also, I knew the kids wouldn't like either pie but I wanted to use up stuff we have had ages. I could eat the pie filling and not the pastry. A friend told me when I eat food I am intolerant to I am actually poisoning myself and therefore going to the food shop was an essential journey. This was in the early part of lockdown, maybe when I hadn't been out for over ten weeks. So, maybe I need to take a harder line on myself and say food I am intolerant to that no one else wants has to go in the bin? Because, much as the pies were lovely, this feeling now isn't.

But is it because I haven't run since Tuesday? I have done 25/26km on the bike every day and it said burnt 1000+ calories each time except twice. Feeling fed up, tearful, tired, disappointed in myself and embarrassed.

SunshineCake · 12/09/2020 10:48

My app says my period is due so that might explain the tearful feeling but I still think while the weight on could be period the pain last night was from the pie. I just took it out of the fridge but couldn't bring myself to throw it away. So stupid. It is only food but food that will make me feel ill. It was a leek, mushroom and sweetcorn quiche with Red Leicester on top. So nice Sad.

rivierliedje · 12/09/2020 14:42

@Galvantula That's a shame about your joints. Walking, especially on softer ground, should help. The plus side of walking (or running) on softer ground is that it uses more muscles to keep you upright and balanced.

@FatGirlShrinking I'm glad it isn't COvid and hope you feel better soon.
I don't really have a food plan, which is probably part of the problem. I was tracking my food intake but keep forgetting and am trying to reduce screen time (so having everything as an app is not ideal). Maybe I will keep a paper food diary instead? I'm having lots of bloating and intestinal issues recently, so that would be useful anyway to find a pattern.
My worry with a proper food plan is partly embarrassement at hvaing to go on a diet (silly Blush) and partly worry about reigniting an eating disorder which I thought I would never recover from and have now not had to deal with for several years.
Because of that I would rather take very small steps that can be sustainable changes, rather than changing everything all at once. Which I know will mean everything is slower. I'm having trouble finding a path though.

@SunshineCake Sorry you are feeling so unwell. Periods and food intolerances are no fun on their own, but combined doesn't sound great at all.
Your runs and cycles are such amazing distances!

fallfallfall · 12/09/2020 19:25

positive thoughts @SunshineCake. the calorie burn sounds rather high, is the watch set to your weight? with the high numbers are you "eating back" some of the calories and then possibly being too liberal?
the intolerance is bound to play a huge part as well as your menses, all i can off you is Flowers and Brew.
i hate food waste from a frugal point of view as well as a dislike for shopping...lots of bits and bobs gets cooked and added into the freezer and later added into soup broth or spaghetti sauce. or fed to the dogs.
today i'm dealing with another sink full of apples :(.

SunshineCake · 12/09/2020 19:36

I am going on the bike counter for calories and I am not calorie counting but I wouldn't do an hour on the bike and then decide I can eat a huge bar of chocolate or a large bag of crisps so no, not eating back and think the bike counter is pretty accurate. I just looked at the watch counter for yesterday's cycle and there is a huge disparity in calories burnt but I think it is because the watch works better when on an actual bike that moves so can't really accurately count calories. It does sound a lot but I do work at it when cycling Sad.

SunshineCake · 12/09/2020 20:19

Just talked to dh about it and he doesn't think the bike counter is accurate. What's the point of it then !?!

I'll give it until Tuesday and if no weight has started coming off again I will go back to running. My knee will have had a week off from running by then.
