Morning all! How is it July!

Welcome to the July lose 7lbs thread. All are welcome to join whether you are a regular, lurker, oldie, newbie, or a proper old timer like me 😂

All we ask for is the amazing support and positivity that I've seen in every single one of these threads so far. Last months thread is here June thread - lose 7lbs/3kg per month http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/weightlosss_chat/3925539-June-thread-lose-7lbs-3kg-per-month

Stats for me are:
Start weight (Dec 2018) 25 st 2lbs
Current weight: 17st 6lbs
Loss for June : 3lbs (boo 😳)
Total loss so far: 7st 10lbs

Would love to get into the 16s this month! I'm following WW green plan, I eat mainly plant based with a little dairy/cheese/gin thrown in. My aim this month is more plants and less gin 😂

Plan for today is OMAD - grapefruit segments to snack on throughout the morning and then a pea and mint risotto for dinner with side salad.

Have a fabulous 1st July everyone!

@cricketmum84 hope everything works out okay!

My weight finally dropped this morning! Only by half a pound which was a surprise but still - I am now 10 stone 5.75 which 0.25 under the top of my healthy BMI band.

Still a stone (at least) away from what I think my target currently is but for the first time in my life I'm technically "healthy". Feels a bit odd over here ha

peanutbutterdog · 24/07/2020 12:35

Cricketmum, I hope everything is ok with your daughter. We can nearly put up with anything for ourselves, but when our kids aren't 100%, it's very hard.

Well done Whatalearningcurve - that's a great achievement. I'm nowhere near you but have reached an important milestone myself today. I am down 3lbs to 12st 6lbs so am finally out of the obese range after some 20 years. Never thought I'd be happy to say I'm just overweight, but I am

WhatALearningCurve · 24/07/2020 14:11

@peanutbutterdog congratulations!

I started this attempt at weight loss on the 20th April (96 days ago) and I weighed nearly 13 stone (my heaviest was nearly 14) and classed as obese and I don't think I've been under the obese band in as far as I can remember.

GetTheStartyParted · 24/07/2020 18:14

Well done @WhatALearningCurve and @peanutbutterdog - I was thrilled when I become 'only overweight' last week, its a great feeling and achievement. I really can't wait to be in the healthy range, even if it does feel odd Wink

@Cricketmum84 I hope you have some answers for DD soon, how worrying for you Flowers

Bella444 · 25/07/2020 07:01

@cricketmum84 thinking of you, you'll get it all resolved soon. It's so hard when it's your kids.

Im happy as the scale has started with an 11 all week instead of the constant fluctuations I had at the end of the 12s!

I might be coming off furlough in August which should help me. It's too easy to think about food all the time when I'm home alone. I've started an Instagram account to keep me busy for now, all about my husbands lunch box WinkGrin.

I am going to France now for 2 weeks so hoping to keep everything under control diet wise but I can already hear those fresh, crusty baguettes and that stinky cheese calling!

Howmanysleepsnow · 25/07/2020 08:42

I weighed in at 10st 2lb yesterday morning (yay, 2lb off!) but today it’s up to 10st 4lb. I’m hoping it’s just because this is my evening as I was on a night shift last night so had lunch at 1am and dinner at 8am, plus plenty of drinks for the caffeine. I might weigh again later once I’ve slept! That’s probably cheating a bit, but I want to know!

Shedtheload · 25/07/2020 08:53

Well done everyone! I also remember how awesome it felt to be overweight rather than obese. It’s such a great achievement and makes a huge difference to your health. Well done peanutbutterdog

cricketmum84 · 25/07/2020 09:23

Morning all, sorry I was MIA yesterday. Just a bit stressed out with everything plus it was our wedding anniversary too! Diet cheated last night with a naughty Chinese as an anniversary treat but I did only eat half.

Also got my nails done for the first time in 17 weeks!! And found my pre lockdown jeans are too big and I'm going to need to buy a smaller size... I've got a few days off next week so will have a full on clothes clear out again.

Don't have much of a plan for today as I haven't done the weeks meal plan yet, need to do something with the corn cobs so I might go down the Mexican route and do some garlic and paprika quorn chicken and mixed beans with lettuce wraps and marinated baked corn?

I also want to make some courgette and cheddar scones but the rest of the family think they sound disgusting. This could be dangerous as I will end up being the only one eating them...

Thank you for all the supportive comments. Just a waiting game on bloods coming back now. They suspect rheumatoid arthritis although I'm unsure as there is no obvious redness or swelling to her joints.

Loving seeing the losses coming in! You are all doing so well!!

Have a lovely holiday @Bella444! I would definitely be a stone heavier after 2 weeks of crusty baguette and cheese 😍

Hello everyone, please can I join your thread? You all sound so positive, and I really need that at the minute! I've been reading along for a while, but have been frightened today by a news article stating that obesity increases coronavirus risk by 90% Confused!

I am very big (15 stone 11) and I seem to really struggle to lose weight no matter what diet I try. I can be really really good on SW or whatever, and lose nothing. This time I'm going to aim for 1200 calories a day. I'd love to lose half a stone a month!

GetTheStartyParted · 25/07/2020 14:28

@Cricketmum84 your food all sounds delicious especially the chinese Hope you had a nice anniversary.

@uglyduck welcome! My weight was 15st5 almost six months ago, its now 11st8 and I have knocked my BMI down by 10, from 39.5 to 29.5 - I am so glad I committed to losing weight this time. You have to be ready and realise its going to take time. Good luck, your plan sounds good, just make sure you eat enough to not feel hungry all the time and drink plenty of water!

I have had a lovely morning with both 'step' children. DS2 was so happy to see them, he's 11, they are 22 and 24. I made them a chocolate fondue platter but didn't eat any of it myself, I had a keto coconut blondie with clotted cream, delicious.

Have a great weekend everyone

Bella444 · 25/07/2020 14:30

@uglyduck Hi!

I'm rubbish at posting regularly but everyone on here is so friendly that it doesn't seem to matter Smile.

I'm also doing 1200 cals and intermittent fasting. This is all about to be blown on 2 weeks in France though!

Good luck x

peanutbutterdog · 25/07/2020 15:45

GetThePartyStarted, I'm struggling a little in my head with the adjustment - I still think I look huge but the mirror says otherwise. Are you finding that?

Welcome uglyduck! I started following this thread beginning of January at 16st 3lbs and I thought 7lbs a month was manageable. I really liked the positivity offered between posters and finally plucked up the courage to post a few weeks ago. Since then, I've had nothing but encouragement and support from them which is keeping me motivated. I am currently at 12st 6lbs and hope to lose more. This thread is a lovely environment with friendly people in the same boat. All the best with your weight loss.

GetTheStartyParted · 25/07/2020 16:31

@peanutbutterdog its a bit of a rollercoaster really, one day I feel slim and brilliant, the next I feel huge and gross Hmm I'm probably somewhere between the two! I take comparison photos so I can see the change in my photos.

The last one I posted on my Insta shows how just 6lb and a month might not seem like much but I've actually really changed shape during that time. Can't imagine how I will look and feel once I reach a healthy weight.

Do you take measurements or photos to help you?

uglyduck · 25/07/2020 16:54

Thank you for the lovely welcome, everyone!

@peanutbutterdog Well done on your weight loss! Do you mind me asking what you are doing to lose it? Thank you!

Shedtheload · 25/07/2020 17:13

peanutbutterdog I have lost over two stone and still feel huge and as if I look the same. I can see the difference in photos but it’s hard in real life. Even when I was bigger my fat was quite firm if that makes sense. I didn’t have rolls of fat or anything- I was just big. I am the same shape now, just smaller. I think that makes it harder to see progress whereas if I’d had a huge overhanging stomach that was now gone, it would be easier.

NerrSnerr · 25/07/2020 17:34

Hello all. I am well and truly on the naughty step but did a real life in person Pilates class today so feel a bit better. I am away for most of next week visiting family and there will be lots of chips but I will be better in August. The plus side is that I haven't gained weight!

I have two yoga classes booked in before I go away and then I am back on it with a massive vengeance!!

peanutbutterdog · 25/07/2020 19:35

Thanks GetTheStartyParted (oops! Apologies for error earlier - I might be dyslexic as well as overweight Grin) and Shedtheload. I've never taken photos as I was just too ashamed of myself, I think, to see it but might start now. I know what you mean, Shedtheload, I haven't changed shape either, just sort of shrunk but with the same proportions.

Uglyduck, I have 3 meals a day, normal food but in smaller portions, no eating after 7pm, no elevenses or snacks at all except on cheat day (Saturday) and aim to walk around 15k steps most days. Sometimes I manage it, sometimes I don't but when I fail, I just try again next day.

GetTheStartyParted · 25/07/2020 20:03

@NerrSnerr sounds like you are enjoying your time on the naughty step Grin

@peanutbutterdog no worries. You should take photos, honestly, you say your shape hasn't changed but there is a good chance it is changing. I thought I had hardly changed in the last month - the photos showed otherwise. It really helps me.

Don't be ashamed, firstly, no-one needs to see the photos apart from you but secondly and most importantly, they show your progress and it is an achievement.

Ecci · 25/07/2020 20:49

@UglyDuck Welcome. I was 15 st 12.4 lbs when I started, last August. My aim was to lose 1lb each week for a year, aiming to get to 12st 2. 4 lbs (52 lbs down) by 1st August this year. It seemed impossible at the time. Yesterday I was 12 st 4.4 lbs, so I'm nearly there but not sure I'll quite make it. I've lost it a lot more slowly than most of the people on this thread, but I've found it suits me to do it like this. I'm still a fat girl in my head, though. I look at clothes and think that they're too small for me but then find they fit, which is a nice surprise. Hoping my head will catch up at some point. This is a very supportive and friendly place, lots of advice available. I don't post as frequently as some but I check the thread every day, love reading about how everyone's doing. Good luck.

MonicaBingaling · 26/07/2020 07:33

Morning everyone m, sorry I’ve been quiet this week. Feeling really fed up to be honest. I seem to of plateaued Sad No matter what i do the scale doesn’t seem to move. I hate when this happens as I completely lose motivation!

If anyone has any tips they would be very welcome.

@Cricketmum84 thinking of you atm and sending lots of positive vibes xxx

Shedtheload · 26/07/2020 07:43

Monica I am plateauing too. It sucks. I am trying to tell myself that it will shift eventually but it’s really hard to stay consistent. I am still at the same weight I was over a week ago although my blowout binge made me gain a bit of water weight which has now come off.

Another depressing thing is that I decided to use the body composition part of my scales for the first time and my body fat is really high at 32%. I dread to think what it was when I started. It seems to think that most of the fat is subcutaneous rather than visceral though and my visceral fat reading is quite good, so that’s something. I also have low skeletal muscle mass which is what I am now going to work on improving by doing weights. I know those scales are not really accurate but about 13 years ago when I was about 2 stone lighter than now I had a body composition test done and it also said I had really high body fat of 32% despite being slim which makes me think that the scales probably are fairly accurate. Ugh. Well, at least it gives me a non-weight related goal to pursue which might be good for me.

cricketmum84 · 26/07/2020 09:38

Also plateauing here. In the past I have found that the only thing that shifts it is to cut out carbs almost completely. So that's my plan for the next week. Minimal carbs and certainly no starchy ones at all.

Plan for today is OMAD. LM sausages, carrot mash, baby corn and sugar snap peas. Avoid the mashed potato I'm making for the family.

Have a lovely Sunday everyone!

@Shedtheload it’s so frustrating isn’t it!!!Sad I don’t know what to do atm as don’t want to cut calories any lower (don’t think I’d cope) I’m wondering if increasing them a bit might boost my metabolism?? (I really want cheeseburger and fries tonight as well lol)
I’ve never tried those body fat scales but I wouldn’t let it get you down . Just go by the normal scales and how clothes fit.

I’m hoping the plateau will pass for all of us soon, KOKO we can do this Star

Shedtheload · 26/07/2020 13:33

Thanks Monica yeah I am also reluctant to cut calories further. My BMR is 1530 and I think it’s a bad idea to eat under that as it’s likely to slow my metabolism. Going to give cricketmum ‘s advice a go and drop the carbs a bit. I don’t get on well with keto diets but am going to reduce the amount of rice and pasta. Hopefully we will both break the plateau soon!

And yes, I think I will ignore the body composition stuff! Have found a lot of articles suggesting they’re pretty inaccurate.

cricketmum84 · 26/07/2020 13:43

Ooh if anyone fancies a daily dose of cuteness. Ivy (cricketcat) and Betsy (cricketkitten) are having a little love in at the moment and my heart is actually melting.
