I don’t even recognise myself

In the past year (since getting married) I’ve gained about 3 stone.
I know exactly why, we went from being quite active to sitting in front of the TV most evenings and weekends, eating shit (chocolate etc).

We went out to a friends post wedding garden party this weekend (Social distanced) and when I looked at photos on Facebook I was MORTIFIED.

I know I’ve gained weight, but how did I not know I looked like that??
I didn’t even recognise myself!

So, today is Day 1 of ‘Bookaholic Gets Buff’ and I’m looking for support, advice, fellow ‘Buffers’ who would like to join in etc

I am quite active, although you wouldn’t believe it by looking at me. So it’s mainly diet I need to improve.

I’m 13st and a size 18 Blush
I’m aiming for 10st.

Well the last week’s been a bit mixed. Birthdays, so rather a lot of cake, only managed one run, so need to redo week 3 next week (and it’s yo rain all week!) and lots of stress about.
We’ll see tomorrow!

SierraOscar · 10/08/2020 15:38

I'm back in it this week, although I have started this week off with a dodgy tummy. I'm just being kind to myself and getting some rest in too along with gallons of water.

What are everyone's plans to help the weight loss this week?

Once I feel better (hopefully tomorrow), I'm planning to make a mango salad.

Coldhandscoldheart · 10/08/2020 20:13

If it’s any consolation I lost a stone through a series of tummy bugs last year. Kept it off too. Gross but effective.

I am going to restart week 3 c25k tomorrow.
Although I haven’t lost any actual weight, I definitely feel trimmer and better, and I eat better when I’m doing regular exercise.
Need to get my diet/eating properly game back on tho.

notevenamum1 · 10/08/2020 20:44

So my normal weigh in day is Monday but I did it on Wed last week as I was away for a long weekend. Not sure if I should now have Wed as my weigh in day? Do think Monday is the most brutal of the days to weigh yourself after the weekend...

Anyway good news! I am 3lbs down which takes my total weight loss so far to 8lbs. I have so much to lose - about 3 stones but trying to think of it a stone at a time.

I am very grateful that I am getting results as I have been in a position of dieting and losing nothing or even gaining for weeks on end. BUT I have to say, this is really bloody hard. I’m starving all the time and cranky. My sleep has also been affected because I am just so hungry. I am eating about 1,300 cals mid week and 1,500 at the weekend so I’m not under eating but I’m just a really hungry gal confused hopefully the scales moving will keep me somewhat motivated.

notevenamum1 · 10/08/2020 20:46

Also I’m convinced that exercising is detrimental to weight loss (for me) the only exercise I am getting right now is daily walks and I wonder if what’s why the scales are moving.

I would like to lose half the weight I need to lose before starting either back at the gym or running. Obviously exercise is essential for long term health and also weight maintenance but I have no doubt that this will slow down/stall my weight loss

Coldhandscoldheart · 16/08/2020 22:15

Just before the next Monday. Well done @notevenamum1
An interesting thought about the exercise and weight loss. I will admit the scales haven’t shifted a bit since I started c25k again, but then, they hadn’t shifted a bit before either.
I will persist in eating too much. However, I’m not going to stop the running because I know I’m better for it, and I feel trimmer round the middle, even if nothing has actually changed.

Cavagirl · 17/08/2020 09:22

Anyone else still going?
I've had a self-sabotage weekend... was doing v well last week and by Friday almost 3 lbs down on Monday...then a weekend of bbq and booze and I've put it all back on and am now almost half a pound heavier than a week ago 🤦‍♀️ Posting to make myself accountable as "diet in the week, binge at the weekend" is becoming a bit of a pattern which I need to kick. I am very much a social eater/drinker, lockdown was quite helpful in helping me stick to dieting. I hate being that "person on a diet" at a party/ dinner being fussy over food drink (a thought I only have about myself, I don't mind at all if it's someone else!!) So I give myself the day/night off but that's recently turned into the entire weekend.... every weekend. Need to stop! How do others find sticking to being good now lockdown is easing?

notevenamum1 · 17/08/2020 11:58

I was aiming for 2lbs loss this week but I got 1.5lbs which I will definitely take. Those mid week cocktails got me.

I do think I have come a bit slacker with my eating window so want to nail it back this week. Think it’ll be 12.30 - 8.30 most days.

A loooot of effort goes into losing the smallest bit of weight. Really I hope I have it in me to see it through to the end this time.

@Coldhandscoldheart well done on all the running, I definitely need to get back to it but I think if I hopefully shift some of this excess weight first it should be easier.

@Cavagirl I can sooo relate to mid week dieting and weekend binging. Do you think you could eat 200 cals a day less mon- thurs and enjoy those extra 800 cals over fri-sun?

You don’t have to tell me that 800 cals is nowhere near enough for a good time Grin

Coldhandscoldheart · 17/08/2020 22:03

Absolutely @notevenamum1 I swear I feel every extra pound every time my foot hits the floor.
I’m really impressed with your progress though, I’m starting to look at things like fast 800, cos it’s all just so dull.
I can’t remember where I saw someone posting that they had a company delivering all their meals and snacks to get them started. I can’t help wondering if that’s worth investigating. Am so lazy!

Cavagirl · 17/08/2020 22:30

@notevenamum1 I'm on Dukan so sadly the saving up for a treat doesn't work, but thanks a lot for the suggestion! Actually bbqs and eating out should be pretty easy, meat and veg. I just need to stop giving myself the day off and eating all the crisps as well and necking multiple bottles of wine
I think lockdown/lockdown easing isn't helping because seeing people feels like a big thing that I don't want to "spoil" by being the one on a diet.
I basically just need to have a word with myself!!

Coldhandscoldheart · 22/08/2020 07:30

I’m still going to plug on with this thread. Weight still up and down, but hovering around the same place. Inadvertently fasted 16hrs yesterday as was too busy at work to stop. I fear I made up for it with baked potato and cheese dinner, but refrained from having an ice cream.

I continue to run, although I haven’t had time the last three days, I need to do today and tomorrow instead. I feel I look better for it. I actually think my digestive system feels better when I eat smaller meals too.

Today I’m shattered, but I’m going to do this run & see if I feel better.

SierraOscar · 23/08/2020 20:48

I'm back! I have been very badly behaved as I was made redundant and have had to come with a plan to get some income. After two weeks I've intense revision and an exam I am back on track.

The diet is back on tomorrow.

notevenamum1 · 24/08/2020 08:59

Hi @SierraOscar so sorry to hear that!!! It sounds like you are back up and on your feet in no time at all though which is amazing. Sometimes there’s more to life than being on a diet!

It’s a maintain for me ok today’s weigh in. I wasn’t strict on my fasting window mid week and I over indulged at the weekend. This week is back to basics and strict counting.

SierraOscar · 24/08/2020 09:27

I'm thinking of going to hollland and Barrett today to see if they have anything that will make me feel full.

With everything that has happened over the last few weeks I've realised that I am an emotional eater, I need to learn to deal with that.

notevenamum1 · 24/08/2020 09:31

TMI but after sorting out my constipation issue, I am now 1lbs down Grin

Coldhandscoldheart · 24/08/2020 10:02

😂 @notevenamum1
79.9kg today. It probably won’t last, but am under 80kg for the first time in I don’t know how long.

notevenamum1 · 24/08/2020 11:21

That’s amazing @Coldhandscoldheart well done!

SierraOscar · 24/08/2020 12:16

Well done @Coldhandscoldheart

notevenamum1 · 25/08/2020 19:07

How is everyone getting on? This is week 6 for me and I’m doing a “reset” I.e. trying to be as good as I was on week 1. Only Tuesday and I’m having to remind myself why I amdoing this. Just so tired today. Need some motivation from you ladies Smile

notevenamum1 · 25/08/2020 19:09

Did you find anything interesting in H&B @Coldhandscoldheart?

notevenamum1 · 25/08/2020 19:10

Think I’m due my period which is probably why I’m feeling so lethargic. Will probs still be on for my Monday weigh in next week so need to not be disappointed when the inevitable bloating shows on the scales.

I think it was @SierraOscar that was going to h&b
I’ve been a total pigling the last two days, could not stop, don’t know what’s wrong with me!
About to run once I’ve had this coffee and just try to do better today.

Coldhandscoldheart · 26/08/2020 09:06

So despite that today I’m 79.8

After weeks of feeling as if I was cutting down, but only maintaining, I am seriously wondering how much I was actually eating before, that I didn’t think was too bad Shock

SierraOscar · 26/08/2020 09:43

Yes it was me that was going to H&b but when I got there it had an enormous social distanced queue outside and I wasn't in the mood for that.

I need to crack this constant need for sweet stuff. I'm thinking if shakes to feeling filled up. Does anyone have any experience with these?
