I don’t even recognise myself

In the past year (since getting married) I’ve gained about 3 stone.
I know exactly why, we went from being quite active to sitting in front of the TV most evenings and weekends, eating shit (chocolate etc).

We went out to a friends post wedding garden party this weekend (Social distanced) and when I looked at photos on Facebook I was MORTIFIED.

I know I’ve gained weight, but how did I not know I looked like that??
I didn’t even recognise myself!

So, today is Day 1 of ‘Bookaholic Gets Buff’ and I’m looking for support, advice, fellow ‘Buffers’ who would like to join in etc

I am quite active, although you wouldn’t believe it by looking at me. So it’s mainly diet I need to improve.

I’m 13st and a size 18 Blush
I’m aiming for 10st.

I recommend The Obesity Code by Fung. It was interesting and educational. It reveals the myth around "eat less, move more" and talks about your body's processes and studies that have been done.

Intermittent fasting is the only thing that works for me.

Beatricemom89 · 22/07/2020 09:27

You need to cut down eating sweets, crisps, soda another crap. Try to change it to berries and nuts, it's much healthier for your body. Some people say that it's good to eat a small amount but often, but I am sure that eat about 350 calories but 3 times a day is easier for life. Despite sitting near tv go to the park or just walk in the city. I am sure you can do it.

Not having a biscuit, not having a biscuit, not having a biscuit.
They’re not nice biscuits! They don’t taste of anything!
Dear lord I’m hungry.

Cavagirl · 22/07/2020 20:39

@Coldhandscoldheart did you resist???
DP wanted chicken takeaway tonight... grilled chicken still quite healthy but I stole 4 of his chips and then felt very guilty. They were soooo good. At least it was only 4 😬

SierraOscar · 22/07/2020 21:07

@coldhandscoldheart I have those thoughts constantly!

I haven't hit 10k steps today, but I feel like I've been on the move all day. My gym is reopening at the weekend, I'm apprehensively considering going.

Coldhandscoldheart · 22/07/2020 21:24

I did resist! But we had chips (oven) for tea. Wednesdays are always easy food. I’m trying to convince myself I’m not hungry, so I’m going to bed.

Cavagirl · 22/07/2020 21:32

Hahahaha well done on resisting!
If you want a desserty treat I've become addicted to Oppo ice cream. It's not that cheap (fiver a tub) but has hardly any fat or sugar and actually tastes so good, like it could be normal ice cream good (I guess that's why it's a fiver a tub). DP even likes it.

SierraOscar · 22/07/2020 22:37

When I feel hungry I am trying to drink some water instead. Not at this tome of night though as my old lady bladder will protest at unsociable hours.

My new go to snack to get over the sugar cravings/hunger/ biscuit addiction is apples chopped up with peanut butter. I occasionally add smear of Nutella to make it chocolate like.

I'm very fortunate that I don't like ice cream. Saying that I treated DD to a 99 earlier and was tempted to snatch the the flake off her like a starved seagull at the seaside.
FrustratedMess · 22/07/2020 22:40

I need to lose atleast 3 stone as well, although im alot bigger than you OP

FrustratedMess · 22/07/2020 22:43

I suggest getting the app

MyFitnessPal

It is amazing.... Really helps you, with the calories, fat, sugar content, everything.

You dont have to have the paid version either....

Iv been doing it for 3 weeks, aiming to only eat 1,400 calories....
The app asks you questions and then tells you how many calories you need to eat etc

Its easier 3 weeks in, in the beginning it was hell....

Iv lost just over 10lb

SierraOscar · 25/07/2020 11:29

I feel bit down as I've gained 2lbs. Does being in make you gain weight? (Hopeful)!

My gym is open again now and I'm going to a yoga class on Monday - I can't wait!

notevenamum1 · 25/07/2020 12:04

Don’t be down @SierraOscar I know the feeling too well! It could be star retention from anything like having a slaty or carby meal or where you are on your cycle. I think if you have a really clean week and drink lots of water then it’ll drop off by your next weigh in. Don’t let it demotivate you!

SierraOscar · 25/07/2020 12:18

Thank you @notevenamum1 - I'll be every careful with my meal planning this week.

DCIHoops · 25/07/2020 13:52

Can I join? I’m 5ft 3in and 12 stone.

I’ve just got a Fitbit, smart scales and a bike and all set to get rid of 3 stone.

notevenamum1 · 25/07/2020 15:02

By star retention I meant water retention. Doh! Hi @DCIHoops !

SierraOscar · 25/07/2020 20:13

@notevenamum1 I did wonder what star meant 😂

@DCIHoops - welcome to the gang! I'm the same height as you and a few pound heavier. I'm aiming for 10 stone for now.

DCIHoops · 25/07/2020 21:37

Thanks not and sierra - I normally kill threads!

I'm happy with today - managed 7500 steps while walking the dog and logged everything i've eaten in my-fitness pal. Am finding the fit-bit really helpful as it's hard to ignore.

I'm looking for recommendations for a pet trailer for the bike so I can fit in biking without having to leave the dog at-home. I've-stuck a thread on the doghouse.

Coldhandscoldheart · 26/07/2020 06:58

@DCIHoops I’ve realised that my step count is tiny nowadays compared to previously,I’m sure driving to lots of places (work, nursery) has had an impact.
Perhaps that’s another thing I should look at.
Waves to all new joiners & thread killers :)
Yesterday was dreadful for food. I tried to go for a run & my battery crapped out & I got poured on - drenched!
So I’m going to start week 2 next week.
Not sure what we’re doing today,

Coldhandscoldheart · 26/07/2020 08:03

Oh, oh and another thing! I bought two new bras! They are a little tight, but I know going up a back size will be too loose. I’ve been living with seriously disreputable undercrackers & have just crossed the ‘I’m worth spending the money on’ line.

DCIHoops · 26/07/2020 09:48

ok so want to let you know what you’ve done to inspire me! Something AMAZING happened this morning!

It’s Sunday and I’ve just got back from BEING OUT ON MY BIKE FOR 33 mins!!!!!!!

Normally on a Sunday I’m having a lie in til about 10:30 - THANK YOU!

DCIHoops · 26/07/2020 09:49

coldhand - well done on the new bras - are they sports bras or every day ones?

Coldhandscoldheart · 26/07/2020 11:10

Just everyday ones. My sports bra is in quite good nick Blush

Coldhandscoldheart · 26/07/2020 11:11

And well done on the early bike! All the time you’re exercising you’re not eating I say :)

SierraOscar · 26/07/2020 21:26

I've had this problem too. I bought some bra extenders from eBay, they are very cheap and are real solution to this issue.
