cricketmum84 · 29/02/2020 12:03

Hello everyone and welcome to the March edition! The plan is to lose 7lbs or 3kg this month!

All are welcome whether you are a regular, newbie, lurker, returning member... all I ask for is the amazing positivity and encouragement I have seen on every thread so far. You guys have been incredible!

I am following ww blue plan and very low carbing. There's a good mix of different methods on here though :)

Previous thread here is anyone wants to look back: Lose 7lbs/3kg per month! The February edition! http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/weightlosss_chat/3810787-lose-7lbs-3kg-per-month-the-february-edition

My stats are:
Starting weight (Dec 18) 25st 2lbs
Current weight: 18st 4lbs
Loss so far: 6st 12lbs
Loss for Feb: 6lbs (just missed target 😢)
Target for March: 10lbs so 17st 8lbs

We can do this people!!! Who's with me???

If anyone else is interested in his book it is called Life without diabetes. I bought it as both dp and I were carrying significant extra weight and have a massive family history of diabetes. I found it very useful and motivating as a non diabetic

The study is being rolled out nationwide from April to try to make reversal of type 2 by weight loss the main nhs approach, it says in the book.

KedsAndTubeSocks · 04/03/2020 20:17

Interesting, both, thanks. Not sure that the hip: waist ratio is any better. Due to my body type, I have no waistline and didn't even when I was a skinny-minny (before children, obv!)
Not sure I can cope with a book on the subject, but I'll try to find a couple of articles. Thanks for giving me the name Once, definitely makes it easier to Google!

GetTheStartyParted · 04/03/2020 20:19

Very interesting @Onceuponatimethen

My Dad has type 2 and is interested in the keto diet because of claims it can reverse diabetes, but he doesn't eat a big variety of foods so I'm not sure it will suit him. I may read this book to see if it helps me to help him. Thank you.

Onceuponatimethen · 04/03/2020 20:22

It’s a really inspirational book @GetTheStartyParted

Onceuponatimethen · 04/03/2020 20:23

Basically anyone can do it who can tolerate shakes and some veg for 8 weeks, then low calorie food reintroduction after that

Onceuponatimethen · 04/03/2020 20:24

This is the diet they gave patients on the studies and the results were amazing!

Onceuponatimethen · 04/03/2020 20:24

We just can’t stomach the idea of the shakes Blush

JessJonesJumps · 04/03/2020 21:09

Once I think you can do it without the shakes. I have a friend in the US who is completely evangelical about controlling diabetes through weight loss. He started talking about it ten years ago and tbh some mutual acquaintances thought he was talking rubbish. I often think he must feel quite smug now.

Onceuponatimethen · 04/03/2020 21:36

Hi @JessJonesJumps yes you definitely can - Prof Taylor says the real food way is actually better but the shakes worked better in their study (quick, people found it more palatable than a very low cal diet without shakes).

CumbrianExile · 04/03/2020 22:02

Hey. First weigh in for March and I'm 1.5lb down.

Bit disappointed as I wanted 2lb really but I'll koko 😀

RoomR0613 · 04/03/2020 22:43

Keds my own view (not scientific) is that BMI is based around the male body rather than the female body which is much more variable depending on genetics, child rearing etc.

My BMI currently is teetering between obese and overweight (after some weight loss I'm currently BMI 28). However, I've always had a high BMI even when I've been in size 8/10/12 jeans.

after some unscientific scientific experiments I have concluded that each of my breasts weigh roughly a stone each . Essentially they are disproportionate to the rest of me but as I am also short they ultimately push me from the heathy/slightly overweight category into the overweight/obese category.

I think the variations I women's body shapes can't be accounted for by BMI and therefore I take it with a pinch of salt.

MotherOfDragonite · 04/03/2020 22:44

Had a much better day today. Stuck within my points. Thank you all for the encouragement!

Some really super ideas for supper there too, thank you! Tonight we had peas, brown rice, gyoza and a tomato salad. It was pretty tasty. I do need to make more of an effort to get the kids eating interesting flavours. The little one is actually quite open-minded but my eldest is quite fussy so I sometimes just give up and cater for the lowest common denominator...

MotherOfDragonite · 04/03/2020 22:47

I am gunning for a 1.5lb loss this week (more would be fine too!) as it would take me to 1 stone lost in total. And I would go down a BMI point too.

SconNotScone · 04/03/2020 23:13

Good luck for any upcoming weigh-ins!
Planning my day worked well, I knew I had enough calories “spare” to have an options hot chocolate, and a little bit of mayo with my dinner, and still came in under target cals. Plus, I did a gym class and burned 120 extra cals on the treadmill after, so I’m pleased with that.

Work tomorrow, so difficult to plan, as I usually would eat both lunch and dinner at work on a Thursday. And I can never keep track of what’s on the menu (plus not the healthiest choices really). I think for ease, I will see what’s on the lunch and dinner menu, eat at whichever meal has the healthiest option, then take another Itsu noodle pot with me, and add a boiled egg and chicken like I did today for the other meal of the day. Breakfast will be yoghurt and fruit as usual!

Onceuponatimethen · 04/03/2020 23:15

I’m thinking hummus on bread plus grapefruit for breakfast. Maybe cheese sandwich for lunch with celery and then salmon for dinner

ploughingthrough · 05/03/2020 03:55

Well I have come down I'll with something horrible and viral. Feeling terrible which is unfortunate - I also live in Singapore so no way I can go to work for next 5 days even if I feel better. But, due to fever I am not hungry at all so it'll help the scales right - silver lining...just had a bit of vegetable soup for the vitamin content and going to try sleep it off. Good luck for all the upcoming weight ins - you ladies perseverance is inspiring even when there is a bad day or no scale movement!

Onceuponatimethen · 05/03/2020 05:51

@ploughingthrough get well soon - sounds nasty.

cricketmum84 · 05/03/2020 07:12

Down a pound yay!! I'm 1lb away from total 7 stone loss so far! Hoping to get there by the weekend.

Hope you feel better soon @ploughingthrough. I'm still battling the horrible viral cough and feeling quite rubbish so you have my sympathies.

Spiralised courgette went down really well last night. I'll definitely be making that again!

Plan for today is:

B - 2 eggy breakfast muffins
L - half portion of leftover veggie curry
D - just me and eldest DD tonight and she is making a lovely vegetable Thai curry (her speciality) with green rice.

Have a good Thursday everyone!

Get well soon @ploughingthrough. Well done on the losses @cricketmum84 and @CumbrianExile.

I had a better day yesterday (didn’t overeat anyhow) and the scales say I am back to 63.3kg (not sure I trust them).

Egghead68 · 05/03/2020 07:27

And get well soon @cricketmum84 - you must be fed up of it - really lingering.

ploughingthrough · 05/03/2020 07:31

7 stone @cricketmum84 that's incredible well done! When did you start?

Ihatesundays · 05/03/2020 07:34

Down 0.1kg but I am FINALLY 69.9kg. Been a long time coming.
Next weight loss will take me under 11 stone as well.

cricketmum84 · 05/03/2020 07:35

I started on 21st December 2018! I had a total target of 12 stone loss and accepted it would take 2 years to get there!

5 stone to go sounds so much nicer than 12 stone to go lol!

OP posts:
ploughingthrough · 05/03/2020 08:01

Smashing it @cricketmum84 I'm well impressed. 5 stone certainly sounds achievable after all that.
I weighed in at 65.9kg this morning. 0.4 of a kilo and I'll have lost 10kg 🎉

Egghead68 · 05/03/2020 08:24

Congratulations @Ihatesundays! I remember how amazing it felt to break the 70kg barrier.
