Link to previous thread here: Half a stone or 3kgs off in September!! http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/weightlosss_chat/3679916-half-a-stone-or-3kgs-off-in-september

Can't quite believe it's time to start the October thread already!!

So here it is, our challenge to lose half a stone in October. Oldies, newbies and lurkers all welcome. We do a mix of diets/healthy lifestyles etc. I swapped ww for mfp last month to help me focus on nutrients rather than just calories and also follow 16:8 most of the time.

As per every month we ask for positivity, encouragement and motivation to be the best version of ourselves we can be!!

Stats for start of October for me are:

Starting weight: 19.3
Loss for Sept: 10lbs
Loss for 2018: 5st 13lbs

Goal for October: 18.7 - another 10lb loss.

See you all here tomorrow!!

Ha! Yes a little. Also I don't like the texture unless it's been fried which isn't great for the diet!!

The vegan fish fillets were 36g protein yesterday but I dont want to be eating a processed meat substitute every day and would rather cook much more natural food.

@cricketmum84, I eat things with coconut milk or coconut cream in a couple of times a week, it shouldn't really be that I wouldn't have thought. Fat is no longer thought to be bad for you, it's sugar more than anything else I think.
I eat 80% veggie food and have a lot of lentils, chick peas, cheese (halloumi, Brie, goats cheese are my favourites), seeds (pumpkin, sunflower) and nuts but still find it very difficult to get the right amount of protein unless I'm eating meat. I really like the occasional protein shake.
I second the suggestion of mixing it up for a few days, have something completely different, increase your calories then cut them again and see if that helps.

beforeIhit30 · 28/10/2019 17:01

@cricketmum84 I think it’s tricky getting vegan protein naturally and calorie counting (in my experience of just looking at nutrition and such, I’m not vegan), as you can get more nutrient dense things like hemp hearts (which have about 10g protein in 2 tbsp) but they’re also higher in calories, similar to your coconut milk experience. Have you checked out the vegan protein powders? Holland & Barrett stock several, and Amazon has a fair amount too. I’m not sure what they’re like for calories but you may be able to find something suitable.

Lost my post yesterday, so...

Yesterday:
B: eggs and mackerel, creamy coffee.
D: seasoned roast chicken thighs, roasted veg.

Today:
B: creamy coffee, eggs, sausages, cherry tomatoes.
D: will eat some leftover chicken, with more roasted veg (probably Brussel sprouts, tomatoes, cauliflower... something like that!).

I’ve had a lazy few days, done laundry and such but not much walking, but tomorrow we’re doing a day trip so should be much more active. Also rediscovered rooibos tea and really enjoying it as a caffeine free alternative to black tea. I shouldn’t be have too much caffeine, it affects my energy levels in the wrong way - I get more tired! - as it affects my medication absorption over time, but I like drinking hot drinks throughout the day.

7Worfs · 28/10/2019 18:19

@beforeIhit30 I just got decaf and drink that all day after my morning caffeinated coffee.
Tried some Colombian one from Sainsbury’s and it’s good enough (filter machine).

beforeIhit30 · 28/10/2019 20:49

I’ve not tried decaf filter @7Worfs that might be good, will have to look into it. We have a Nespresso and I drink decaf coffee from that in the morning but need something more watery, if that makes sense, later in the day, otherwise I start to feel dehydrated! But if I keep drinking black tea I’ll just end up with too much caffeine, and I’m not a big fan of fruit/herbal tea although I’ll have some occasionally. I do also drink water Grin I drink a lot in general so I like to have some variety.

Morning my lovelies! How is everyone today?

I've decided I'm not going near the scales until the 31st. I need a couple of days off from the ups and downs!!

The creamy mushroom pasta last night was absolutely gorgeous. Loving the violife cream cheese. Think it may be my new addiction!

Plan for today is:
1pm a few crackers with violife 😍 plus a few cherry tomatoes
8pm - LM burger with sweet potato wedges

Have a lovely Tuesday!

Morning all. Ended up eating more snacks than planned yesterday (I was ravenous by about 4pm and couldn’t eat dinner early as I had running) but finished the day on 1600 calories. Burned 800 ish from running so net that is all good. Plan for today:
Yoghurt (possibly with nuts/raisins)
Turkey sandwich
Pear/banana/apple
Lentil Ragu with extra veg and pitta bread

So far that’s about 1,100. Will probably have something else as well!

Have a good day everyone

cricketmum84 · 29/10/2019 08:15

@beforeIhit30 what are hemp hearts and where do you get them from?

OP posts:
FlyUpAndDieWitch · 29/10/2019 08:38

Morning everyone!

Still very congested, which at least puts the brakes on my appetite.

Still in bed atm, but will have breakfast at about 9:30 & lunch at 14:30.

Have a great day everyone!

7Worfs · 29/10/2019 08:52

Loving the positive vibes from the posts today - let’s all have a great day Halloween Smile

Egghead68 · 29/10/2019 12:16

Have a good day everyone!

71.9kg which is marginally up and I'm going to put down to normal fluctuation.

Today:
B: 1 piece toast and nut butter 300
S Fruit 140
L tofu stew and rice 430
S Fruit 140
D Stir fry 350 ish
Circuits class (first exercise in a week) if my lurgy doesn't get worse.

beforeIhit30 · 29/10/2019 23:38

@cricketmum84 hemp hearts are the core of hemp seeds (ie shelled hemp seeds), you can get them in some supermarkets (usually in a ‘whole foods’ section), you can also get them in Holland & Barrett and on Amazon. I’ve tried these ones before and liked them, and the Linwoods brand is more commonly available.

beforeIhit30 · 29/10/2019 23:42

Forgot to update my day Grin

Today:
B: creamy coffee.
L: omelette, salad, coffee.
D: roasted chicken thighs, mixed roast veg, followed by a small cocoa.

Did 17k steps today (yay) so feeling both good and sleepy.

DownUdderer · 30/10/2019 03:14

@Baguetteaboutit I’m in NSW Australia, but I’m English :)

I had a doctors appointment today with good news and I’m so relieved. I was a bit nervous before hand.

I’ve just had some pork crackling as a snack, yum. I haven’t had any for years.

I think I’ve had a good couple of days. I’ll either have steak or chicken breast for dinner.

I started walking every evening last week and I enjoy it so much, I’d miss it now if I stopped! Isn’t that funny.

cricketmum84 · 30/10/2019 06:58

Morning lovelies! Hope everyone is ok?

@DownUdderer really good news about the results. Hopefully you can relax a little now!

@beforeIhit30 I'll go have a mooch in H&B this morning thank you :)

Plan for today is:
1pm - 4 seeded crackers with violife, handful of baby plum tomatoes and an alpro high protein yoghurt
7pm - lentil chilli with a little bit of quinoa, mixed salad and dairy free cheese.

Still trying to up water intake but I'm absolutely rubbish at drinking water through the day!

Have a lovely day everyone!

I weighed in yesterday after my 6 week boot camp and am 20.7 pounds down since 16th September! Want another half off by Christmas!

Low carb def works for me!

HollyTheHarrier · 30/10/2019 07:09

Well done @Mammyloveswine!

I ended up going a bit off plan yesterday and eating two portions of Greek yoghurt with chia seeds and a pitta bread with butter. The Greek yogurt was to try and get my protein up because I was struggling with hunger all day but I didn’t need the pitta bread 🤦‍♀️🙄

Anyway - today am in London for work and not sure what I will be eating, so will just have to wing it!

Egghead68 · 30/10/2019 07:15

Glad about your news @Downudderer and very well done @Mammyloveswine.

72.1kg (up again) but (TMI) I haven’t been to the loo for 3 days.

Plan
B: Fruit, high protein yoghurt
L: Sweet potato curry
S: Fruit
D: Stir fry
Spinning or 5km jog

7Worfs · 30/10/2019 08:19

Good news all around Star

Last night I switched baby from blankets to a gro bag and he slept better (and so did I), so managed 20 min fasted HIIT this morning.

The scales are moving in the right direction, I wonder if a toffee apple treat and a curry for dinner are justified 🤔

Got an engineer in, doing a full assessment of the electrical system (we bought the house 6 months ago). I really hope he doesn’t come back with a recommendation to re-wire, I’ve heard that costs arm and leg...

Sorry to babble but this thread is my main adult conversation these days Halloween Grin

cricketmum84 · 30/10/2019 08:28

Ah brilliant @7Worfs !! I don't have a tiny baby but currently waking 5-6 times a night and I know it totally takes it out of you. Mine always slept better in a gro bag too.

You could make a healthy tomato based curry (to be honest I prefer the sw curry recipe to a takeaway now anyway) but yes definitely earned a toffee apple treat! I'm so tempted to get myself one today now, they will only be in the shops for another week!

Natter away :) we like the company!

OP posts:
WoollyFoolly · 30/10/2019 09:20

Toffee apples still count as one of your 5-a-day, right?!

Back from a couple of days away with the kids, happy to have maintained at 12.2 so high hopes of being on for my 5 lb loss target for October tomorrow!
@Mammyloveswine you've done amazingly well! What comes next after the 6 week boot camp?

Mammyloveswine · 30/10/2019 09:29

@WoollyFoolly thank you!

Planning on regular gym sessions and a mix of the fast800 and slimming world but low carb.

Had a chinese last night but could barely manage half!

7Worfs · 30/10/2019 10:11

Thank you @cricketmum84 Brew What happened to your green/herb tea mornings? That’s just as good for hydration if you forget to drink water (I think)

@WoollyFoolly totally 1 of 5, there’s an 🍎 in there Halloween Grin

WoollyFoolly · 30/10/2019 18:44

Leek & potato soup for lunch, scrambled tofu and rice for tea (delicious too, not had tofu cooked that way before)
Nice low day calorie-wise, hoping it translates into a good result tomorrow!

cricketmum84 · 30/10/2019 18:50

@7Worfs I'm really good first thing in a morning. I have a pint of water, sometimes 2 when I first get up, a green tea when I get to work or a peppermint if IBS is hurting me. Then I get a glass of water about 10am and it's still half full when I leave at 5.30!
