Link to previous thread here: Half a stone or 3kgs off in September!! http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/weightlosss_chat/3679916-half-a-stone-or-3kgs-off-in-september

Can't quite believe it's time to start the October thread already!!

So here it is, our challenge to lose half a stone in October. Oldies, newbies and lurkers all welcome. We do a mix of diets/healthy lifestyles etc. I swapped ww for mfp last month to help me focus on nutrients rather than just calories and also follow 16:8 most of the time.

As per every month we ask for positivity, encouragement and motivation to be the best version of ourselves we can be!!

Stats for start of October for me are:

Starting weight: 19.3
Loss for Sept: 10lbs
Loss for 2018: 5st 13lbs

Goal for October: 18.7 - another 10lb loss.

See you all here tomorrow!!

September start weight : 17 st 1lb
October start weight : 16 st 8lb
Loss since April '19 : 2 stone 7lbs

Delighted and motivated by the support of everyone on here. Xx

Starting October on 12.7. Another tall one here, I'm also 5'10" and broad. I'm finding that some 14s fit me now but some are still a squeeze so hoping to be comfortably in a size 14 as a next target. Aiming for 7lb in October but would be happy with 5lb.

Hi all, can I join please?

Starting weight: 11 stone 1.6 (very specific!)
Goal for end of October: 10 stone 8

I lost 2.5 stone 3 years ago with SW online and got to 10 stone, I kept it off until last autumn when I've trickled back up to where I am now so I just want to get back down into the lower 10 stone mark.

I've tried WW online but after the freedom of SW it just didn't work for me. I also started nutracheck which I liked but never lost any weight so I'm not sure what I was doing wrong. Going to just try to eat healthily, cut back on bread (my downfall!), and stop snacking every evening!

I’m starting October on 79.2, a whole 100 gram less than I was at the start of September 😂

I’m planning to do things a bit differently this month and aim for 1600 kcal a day. I think that will be more effective than aiming for 1400 and falling off the diet in a spectacular fashion every few days. Let’s see...

Morning everyone!

Starting October at 11st 11. Goal for the end of the month is 11st 4, but I'll be happy with 11st 6.

I'm doing an 18:6 fast today (in fact every Monday -Thursday).

So I break my fast at 9ish with yoghurt, nuts and dried fruit (although today I had pancakes), then a big meal at 14:30 (sticky chicken with salad & baguette today). Start my fast at 3pm and go through to 9am the next day.

Have a great day everyone!

WingDefence · 01/10/2019 15:27

Can I ask about the 16:8 fast please? I get that it's fast for 16 hours and eat during 8 hours but does that basically just boil down to missing breakfast? Confused

Report
WingDefence · 01/10/2019 15:29

Ah Miles I've just seen that you're doing it by missing an evening meal not breakfast. Shame it's not fast for 8 hours, eat during 16... Grin

@WingDefence I eat between 1pm and 9pm give or take half an hour. So for me it's skipping breakfast (which is fine because I never really ate breakfast anyway), no sugary Costa coffee at 11am, no morning snack and no evening crisps or chocolate. It naturally keeps my calories low and takes away the snacking temptation.

Someone gave a really good explanation of how it works on the September or maybe August thread but I'm struggling to find it now! Using an analogy of fridges and freezers if anyone else can remember where it came from??

I will search for it - thanks @cricketmum84! My problem is definitely the evenings stretch...

Found it:
BrillyPribble Wed 31-Jul-19 08:36:35
...I read an article by Michael Mosley about how it works and it made so much sense. Basically it was to think about the food you eat daily as being energy in your body's fridge and the fat stored in your body as being energy in your body's freezer. If your body can access energy from the fridge, it does that as it's much easier. Its only when nothing is added to the fridge for a period of time that your body will start to access the stored energy in the freezer. Alternating between the feast (fed) and famine stages means your metabolism doesn't slow down as it often does if you just restrict calories...

Me please!
Have been on a number of these threads and did really well around June - August but have fully fallen off.
Stats are:
Starting weight: 9st 10lbs
Goal for October: as much as bloody possible but realistically 9 stone 5lbs.

Good luck all!

@WingDefence for me it's basically skipping breakfast but also, crucially I think, no snacking in the evening!! I didn't ever really need to snack in the evening as I wasn't hungry but I'd do it anyway.
I love it, it means I can have normal meals and snacks in the afternoon but still lose weight. I also try and eat high fat, high protein where I can and avoid too many carbs.

I’m doing intermittent fasting too. It works really well, as long as I stick to only eating for 8 hours a day 🙈

I think that part of the reason why it’s really effective is because it’s very simple to follow. You don’t have to think about what healthy snacks to have in the evening, because you just don’t have any! I think the less time you have to spend thinking about food, the less you’re likely to get tempted by things.

Thanks all! I’ve had a google and a read and it seems to say start with 14:10 so I’m going to do that for now. I always tell the DC that breakfast is important and we eat together so I don’t want to start just sitting there with a brew and we eat at 5:30 normally so I’m going to start with fasting 6pm-8am so officially I started 15 mins ago.

I’ve downloaded the Zero app which looks great - does anyone else use it?

I fell off the wagon (I blame my birthday!) in September but want/need to get back on it.

Starting weight is 11:9:2 which is embarrassing when you consider I was 11:5 about two weeks ago Blush

Doing IF 16:8. I usually start eating between 12 and 1 and then stop by 9 which is easy as I am usually in bed by 10 at the latest.

Good luck Losers and bloody well done to cricket for that 6 stone loss - absolutely amazing Flowers

Lurker here who would be overjoyed to lose half a stone in October. I'm currently 11stone 8lbs. Feel like I'm in a cycle of being 'good' and then hoovering up biscuits, chocolates etc. I'm going to try 16:8 and reduce my portion sizes. I'm looking forward to reading everyone's successes.

Another newbie. Had a nasty episode of Atrial fibrillation and need to lose loads of weight so my heart can recover and work better. Hoping for support on this thread, although fear of death is an incredibly good motivator.
Aug 1 was 222.4 lbs
Oct 1 (today) 213.2 lbs
Aiming to lose 7 lbs in October
Looking forward to getting below 200 lbs.

Well, I have not eaten for health today :( BUT I haven’t overeaten either so I am just going to get back on it. Onwards and upwards!

I bought some individual microwave bags of super green rice from Iceland this morning. It's cauliflower, broccoli, spinach, courgette and spinach. (No actual rice)

Really really lovely and only 36 calories a bag. Hoping it will get my iron intake up a little! Also no more grating cauliflower which is a looooong and thankless task 😂

Just realised I put spinach twice. Silly me I meant seaweed!

Trying to eat more beans and pulses as quorn definitely isn't agreeing with me. Had a few quorn nuggets last night and had awful indigestion again straight after.

Flowers @Vebrithien.

I was doing well with 16:8 until I had a weird manic night which apparently fasting can trigger! So am also going to try 14:10 for a bit. 10.1.7 this morning.

I am also considering trying to have a much smaller evening meal- the only time I can get to the gym is evenings, so then I am eating straight before bed- and am also often hungry, so eat too much! Not sure how to balance it out, so any advice gratefully received!

Morning all! Welcome to day 2!!

Stuck to plan yesterday and feeling good! IBS is kicking off a bit again today (stress related) so weight is fluctuating a little. I know this is from inflammation though and is temporary so not too worried.

Plan is:
Now until 1pm lots of water and green tea
1pm: leftover lentil and bean chilli from last night
8pm 2 LM sausages with a little mashed potato, steamed veg and vegetable gravy

Hope everyone has a great day! Whoop for Wednesday!!
